"It wouldn’t be surprising to see Joe Pesci and Al Pacino walk into Mario’s, an old-school Italian restaurant in East Boston that’s been open longer than Ray Romano’s been famous. You’ll find all the classics like lobster ravioli and shrimp scampi served here - all of which come with homemade pasta. On weeknights, it’s easy to walk-in and grab a table, but you’ll want to make reservations on the weekends (especially if Scorsese is also in town)." - Joel Ang

"Pizza gets a Portuguese twist at Mario’s, a take-out spot in Roxbury. The Portuguesa, which comes with clams and chourico, is one of the better pies in the neighborhood." - Dan Secatore

We were in town for business and what an experience we had here. My husband not only enjoyed the food but it reminded him of how he grew up with his Italian family. You feel the love they have in their customers and food. Definitely check them out! I left with a tear in my eye watching my husband hug both Ursula and another woman (didn’t catch her name). Thank you for your hospitality! We will definitely be back! Oh and their lobster ravioli… A MUST HAVE! Love Liz and Herb from NJ!

Update: 6/2024 we still LOVE this place and the staff is so heart warming. It's a welcoming environment. I added my favorite lasagna and my hubby gets the chicken parm with Alfredo sauce. My husband and I went here for dinner this past Wednesday and loved it. Not only do you get authentic Italian food but the staff takes care of you like a guest in their home. A new favorite. We'll be coming back!

The bruschetta was delicious! Very fresh. I'd get the chicken Parm again as well. Servers were great!

The restaurant was recommended by a friend and was AMAZING!!!. From when we entered into the restaurant to be seated to ordering an appetizer to our main menu, everything was excellent. I got the lobster ravioli and I can say it’s one of the best meals I’ve had. I would recommend this restaurant to anybody that is looking for a good Italian meal. They have a great selection of food to choose from. Will definitely be back!!!

This restaurant was amazing! My father got the lasagna and it was better than my shrimp scampi. The plates were presented very nicely. They give you complimentary bread and a salad. The waiter stayed on top of the water. Overall, great experience!

The food here is amazing and definitely the closest thing to your mama's cooking. This was my first time here, we ordered the arancini, bolognese, and their lasagna that was on special. Everything was amazing and the staff were so hospitable. We had pistachio gelato and lemon sorbet for desert since they were out of tiramisu, but we'll definitely be back to try the rest of the menu! Call ahead to put yourself on the waitlist / make a reservation!

Their motto is "Closest thing to Mamma's Cooking" and all I can say is "Wish my Momma cooked half as good". This restaurant has been around for 39 years!!!! That should tell you something right there. In Boston or anywhere within a few hours drive it a quick flight? Do yourself a favor and boom a reservation at Mario's. Save the money it would cost to go to Italy and experience what I would consider the absolute best Italian dining experience! Mario's does feel like you walked into your grandma's kitchen. The family that runs it are lovely and will take amazing care of you. As you will see from my pictures we tasted quite a few dishes and none disappointed. Fresh, delicious and absolutely amazing!!! And don't forget, you have a separate stomach reserved for dessert, so put it to good use!!!!! We will be back in a couple of weeks!
