I finally made it to Mariscos Chente El Original and it did not disappoint. Incredible flavours, generous portions, and wonderful staff. I ordered one ceviche and cameron boracharos. Absolutely delicious! The food was so good and I'll definitely be back to try more items.

MÉXICO 🇲🇽 (Nayarit) Eat the World LA review: You can walk here from the airport, and in a pinch I would do just that. Before moving to Los Angeles, it used to be a brilliant first stop, as it is conveniently located from the car rental agencies. They invite you to bring your own beer, and that really is the perfect way to enjoy seafood and get yourself into the Nayarit beach mentality. Nayarit is a coastal state between Jalisco and Sinaloa and is best known for its delicious seafood. The Nayarit-style seafood selection here is on many city best lists; worth coming to even when your origin is farther than LAX. This brilliantly fresh aguachile (photo 2) was thoroughly spicy and tart, perfect. This mojarra frita (photo 1) seemed like it was caught just before we arrived. Squirt some lime. Are we on the beach?

Google
Went to try it out after a friend recommended it. Sadly, I was incredibly disappointed don’t recommend it. Ordered a shrimp cocktail which was served in a bowl and apparently heated almost like a soup. I’ve never seen this before and should have walked out but... I didn’t want to be rude. The food was flavorless and visually unappealing. I won’t be back, ever.

Google
You can get your mariscos fixing at Chentes. Like many other places it has it's pros and cons. Cons: -Limited parking -Limited seating in the restaurant. Pros: -Pretty good mariscos for a neighborhood place. My wife and I usually always order the same thing, this is what our review is mainly on. The ceviche de camaron and agua chiles. The food is good, I enjoy it especially on a warm or hot day. The portions are pretty good for two people which is the reason we order one of each between my wife and I. Don't get me wrong, I have been to super fresh marisco spots. Places where the fisherman literally park their boats on the beach and take out the fresh catch. That fresh!!! Needless to say it is really hard to get anything fresh in the south bay. Reasonable pricing and good customer service so far. I believe that you will get treated correctly if you talk to them like normal people. I've been to places where the reviews talk about bad customer service but hardly get treated badly. Mainly has to do how the customer talks to the employee. So chentes employees to me have always been nice to me. I recommend this place if you are in Inglewood, CA.

Yelp
Came in after Sunday service, was greeted with a smile. I ordered the Red Ceviche and was happy with the flavor and size of the portion. Loved it. Y claro que voy a regresar

Yelp
Great food and great service. I ordered the mojarra and it was delicious tender inside and crispy outside, they never disappoint.

Yelp
I waited on my food over 30 mins for a simple ceviche. I asked for my order to be to go. They hadn't even started on my order I still had to wait another 15 min with the staff looking upset! It was over a 45 min wait for ceviche

Gabby R.

Yelp

Karen E.

Yelp
Wow! Wow! The food is amazing, the flavor, the generous servings, and the staff are friendly and appreciate the patronage. I am very picky, and this is now my go-to place for mariscos. Disclaimer: the food has a spicy kick but not overwhelming where it takes away from the flavors. Lastly, you can taste the freshness of the seafood. Give Mariscos Chente a try you will be pleasantly surprised.

Emilio C.

Yelp
I went and I asked for ceviche de Cameron and I was half way done until I seen I hair on my food I told the waitress and when I asked for the bill she came and told me that they weren't going to take it out the bill our give me a discount but she lowkey made it seem like I put it there I didn't want her to give it to me for free I just want her to be more alert next time and for that not to happen again
google avatar

Yelp
Holy crap were these mariscos good. I had never been here before, but went with a co-worker. As soon as I saw that the owners were from Sinaloa and Nayarit, I knew I was about to have some of the best mariscos available. Those two states in Mexico are known for their incredibly fresh and flavorful seafood. To add to my excitement, on the wall is a framed photo of one of the owners engaged in a warm embrace with none other than the late Anthony Bourdain, one of my idols. Rest in Peace, Chef. Other than the fresh from the sea mariscos, there star here is their salsa verde. Not for those who can't handle spice. Seriously, you need to eat here. BYOB

Yelp
The service is amazing. The ambiance is live with great vibes. The food is incredible. Real Mexican Sinaluence flavors, straight from the sea. Nothing in Los Angeles compares to Chentes.

Yelp
Don't be fooled: This place looks like a hole-in-the-wall from the outside, and feels small on the inside, but the flavors are real, and they are delicious. I had the pleasure of taking my mom here for lunch, and I had the fried fish, and she had the ceviche. The fish was fresh, fried to perfection, flakey and moist. So good. Momma had the ceviche, and she said that it was some of the best that she's ever had, and she makes some amazing ceviche of her own too, so she knows. We had the good luck to be served by the owner's grand daughter, and she was helpful and attentive. Momma and I have resolved to put this restaurant into the permanent rotation of places to go for sure. I think I made her more than a little jealous with my pescado frito! Oh, and the salsa was simple, but different in just the right way, and went very well with my fish. Update: I had the opportunity to go back today, and everything was just as good. I had a chance to try the pulpo and it was very tender, and my mom loved it. The granddaughter of the founder of the restaurant came out and talked with us again. She was very nice and was kind enought to tell us about the family and the history of the restaurant. Super cool place, and I was happy to support a local family-owned landmark. We'll definitely be back.

Yelp
Little hidden gem. Delicious food. Great service. Chill spot to eat. Would definitely recommend

Yelp
I just to go very often to buy camarones al vapor but now, they are to expensive. And I don't really mine to paid for something that I really like. But they are given less shrimp on the order them before. I agree things are expensive and it's ok to go up on the prices, but come on you guys need at list to put little more shrimps on the orders don't be unfair with the customer. Because we work hard as you guys to get our money. I just think is not fair with the customer at all
google avatar

Da B.

Yelp
Menudo is good... also had some bacon wrapped shrimp. They cook everything in same oil...so I hope you like fish too. I asked for pan tostado for my menudo. I will be back. Service was food too.

Yelp
This is definitely the best place for seafood in Southern California! If you like seafood- you have to try their famous ceviche de camaron en salsa verde. It is simply the best! Today I came with my daughter and we also ordered 2 mojarras fritas. We drive 1 hour and 30 minutes just to come here and the food is worth the drive. The staff is always nice and friendly and make you feel like family coming here. Give this place a try- you won't regret it. :)

Bianca A.

Yelp
Food was very good !! This is my second time I come and every meal on the menu is delicious

nick p.

Yelp
the kindest servers, the tastiest seafood, and a charmingly kitschy environment - you really can't go wrong
google avatar

Monica Q.

Yelp
Salsa is very good , fish was great my only concern was no hair net and no gloves and stop been on the chisme when you have customer its not professional hair net in your hair and gloves should always be used on a restaurant be careful
google avatar

Myrna R.

Yelp
Amazing! The ceviche was my favorite! Really delicious and great customer service. Ceviche that's on point is really hard to find.
google avatar

Oscar R.

Yelp
Food wasn't good at all! This wasn't a good mariscos place. Ordered a cocktail and it was horrible. They don't take card it's cash or Zelle only. Way to expensive for the quality of the food! My buddy order some agua chilli and he said it wasnt worth the money he paid.

Ayden S.

Yelp
Awesome food perfect service awesome place love it I would come here again it's a really good place I suggest you come here

Raluca F.

Yelp

Yelp
best shrimp i've had in my life. i ordered the camarones borrachos (pictured). the flavor was fantastic. i have a gluten sensitivity and was glad the dish was gluten free. i sat on the patio, which had good airflow if you're concerned about covid.
google avatar

Jay O.

Yelp
The food is fresh, good a little pricey compared to other holes In The wall but it's worth it because they have good customer service and the dishes are tasty
google avatar

Sebastien R.

Yelp
This is quite the hidden gem... it's an easy place to miss even if you drive by it everyday but it's an absolute must-try if you like seafood. The ceviches are huge and tasty, the fish is cooked to perfection, the fresh salsa is hot and spicy but will keep you coming back for more The staff and the owners are all very friendly and will treat you like family. It's BYOB ;)
google avatar

Claudia M.

Yelp
One of my favorites spots. Family owned business. Their ceviche and green Chile salsa is fire ! Must try !
google avatar

Jessica V.

Yelp
Looking for authentic delicious mariscos? This is the place to go. Everything was spot on. We got the ceviche mixto, shrimp in Langostino sauce , oysters and a campechana. Definitely a must try! And the oysters were pretty cheap! They don't sell alcohol, but you can bring your own in if you would like. It would be cool if they played some music while we ate, but not a deal breaker. Don't expect a fancy restaurant. Family owned and humble environment. Check it out ! You won't be disappointed!
google avatar

Gabby N.

Yelp
Very good and fresh! Definitely recommend, does that a while to get food but it's fresh and you can order ahead.
google avatar

Vanessa H.

Yelp
YES. A coworker recommended it when I said how I was craving ceviche. I've honestly never had raw shrimp like they came but the flavor was unreal. I got the camerones w green sauce w cucumbers, phewww. Also loved the chips. Will def be back.
google avatar

Rolando R.

Yelp
Honestly a hidden Gem mojarra is my favorite that green sauce is Bomb ! I probably get it 2-4 times a month straight fire

Yelp
I know, your gunna say no way. It's dirty and the location is ghetto and over all it can't be more then a 3 Star joint. But the mariscos and Ceviche and literally anything you order here is Delicous. Get past the funky interior design and hard to park lot and you'll be fine. A true foodie knows that this is a gem. The kind of place that places emphasis on quality food. I've been here 6 times just to be sure before I write this review and now I am 100% positive the food is great, fresh and consistant. The main man Chente (owner) makes your food. Yes. The man in the pictures with people like Anthony Bourdain etc etc. Is there. Cooking your food. I've had the Shrimp Soup Aka: Albacore. A sour and spicy soup with a kick. I can't seem to put my finger on it but it is a great soup on any day but especially delicious on a rainy or gloomy day to keep you warm and filled. Comes with peeled tail shrimp but the heads are still attached. This is where people will say eww. If you are a softy and trip about this, delete your yelp account and stop calling yourself a foodie. Aguachili Camarones is fire.... wowzers. Fresh prawns peeled tails raw with head in a green chili water concoction that cooks the Shrimp using natural acid from the lemon/lime juice. Ceviche with Octopus is a refreshing meal in its self. Comes with a huge bag of fresh homemade tortilla chips. A mixture of fresh fish, shrimp, octopus, cucumber, peppers. Etc etc. Especially spicy unless you specify them to not put peppers or reduce the spice level to medium. Otherwise as is. It is HOT. So be aware if you are sensitive to spiciness. The seating area is a small inside spot with a few small tables or outside under a gazibo permanently fixed with long tables and and chairs to sit with a large group or two. I've always had service with a smile with all the ladies that have served me. Either Chentes daughter or others. They are not stingy and will give you all the sides you ask for. Snook is another world of Delicous with out the bones to pick comes with a soy like flavor onions and absolutely worth its slightly $$ tag. If you like grilled fish. This is a must try as well. I can go on and on about the menu but this is already long enough and I'm sure you've made up your mind about eating here. LOL Enjoy and Stay Wild!
google avatar

Ricardo C.

Yelp
Ridiculous, I placed an order for take out apund ten to twenty mins ago. I talked to the lady and she told me it would take around twenty minutes to make. Once I got there the place was closed! WTF! If there were about to close they should have told me now I am wasting my time and gas going over there to a closed restaurant. NEVER AGAIN! DO NOT GO HERE UNLESS YOU WANT WASTED TIME WITH PEOPLE WHO DO NOT COMMUNICATE WITH YOU.

Romario Z.

Yelp
google avatar

Virginia A.

Yelp
An under rated mariscos restaurant..I have had all of their dishes. My favorites are borrachos, and the a la diabla. For cold plates the ceviche and ahogados, give them a try if you haven't!

Manuel T.

Yelp
This place is good the flavor is still there can't go wrong. But there prices super high I know everything is expensive I get that. It's more of a ceviche de pepinos. Very light shrimp or fish they add. Last time also they forgot to add my ceviche Togo order had to come back
google avatar

Manny Z.

Yelp
Went to this place for lunch, never going back, it took exactly 26 minutes to receive my order of ceviche de camaron, paid $17 for shrimp that werent peeled right. My co workers ceviche had tails on some of them. They need to limit their gossiping and get to work.
google avatar

Karla E.

Yelp
Camarones con salsa langostino are the best! You can bring in your own chelas too! Ceviche cocido is great and so are the mojarras. My family also enjoys their caldo.
google avatar

Bob L.

Yelp
First time here yesterday with a friend and the last time-FOR SURE! 1. The green salsa you get with chips was just spicy with NO flavor. 2. The campechana was one of my top 3 absolute worst dishes I've EVER had in a resturant-EVER! The imitation Krab (which the menue does not mention they do not use real crab) gave the liquid an unappetizing pink color; the oysters were not fresh tasting; there was no seasoning-no salt; the liquid was not citrus juice just tasted like water. So the dish is some lame seafood with some veggies dumped in a bowl with water. Food terrorism and assault to one's palate-it reduced my life spam by at least a year for sure and I'm looking for some grief counseling. It was just plain gross. The other shrimp and fish dishes were just ok-at least edible. They advertise seafood but vast majority of the menue was some variation of shrimp. You have been advised.
google avatar

Alejandra A.

Yelp
This is a hole in the wall type of place. Everything I've ever tried is delicious they have the best tasting Mariscos. The flavors they have are so good! And it's not a fast food place everything is fresh, they make your food by the order so either call in or be prepared to wait for at least 15-20 minutes.
google avatar

Kimdracula A.

Yelp
Parking is HORRIBLE here. It's also in a rough neighborhood so expect a ton of drunks and shady ass dudes. They don't serve alcohol so you have to cross the street to the liquor store all while watching ur wallet and not getting hit by crazy hood-rat drivers. Other than that, the food is definitely good. Highly recommend all of the ceviches. They don't provide tostadas (don't know why) but the chips would do the trick. Also have to ask for avocado. The Chicharron de pescado is also really good but salty. All the food here is definitely more on the salty/sour side compared to other marisco places I've been to. Apparently their aguachile is their signature plate but they serve it whole with the shrimp heads/eyes attached. A lot of their plates tend to contain shrimp heads and just messy shell cracking/peeling if your kind of into that stuff. Decent place, can't go wrong here. Definitely better than Mariscos El Chuy down the street.
google avatar

Andrew F.

Yelp
I went once! An been back a dozen times already! Great food, that green sauce is the bomb. You won't be let down for all your seafood fix's!

Yelp
Had the mariscos culiches so delicious. Hubby had ceviche he loved it Ninos 1 had breaded fish kids meal he was very hesitant then he took a bite and said Mummy this is really good We drove all the way from Long Beach on a recommendation from a friend. It was hot packed Chente was back their cooking it was worth every mile very authentic and delicious. Looking forward to going back and trying a heads on shrimp dish. To our negative reviewers all states in Mexico have a different style if you don't like salsa it's bc your not used to the style but that's how they eat there. I brought my own raw chilies from my plants bc I'm white and that's how I like my spice you just have to look outside the box and realize just because it's Mexican doesn't necessarily mean it's all the same. It's a big country

Cee M.

Yelp
This place is AMAZING!!! I'm not much of a seafood fan, with that being said, this place changed my perspective! The only reason I came here is because I've googled various places and this came up to be one of the top few in my area. I wasn't convinced about it when I first arrived, considering it looked kind of hidden and random. I did not even know what to order at first either. I was too doubtful. The waitresses there are so amiable that I believe i stayed mainly because of the great customer service i was given. Best decision ive ever made. Hands down, I love their ceviche cosido, mojarras, culichis and their camarones al vapor. This is my go to now!!!
google avatar

Dayana R.

Yelp
Real authentic seafood. Portions are amazing I love this place makes me feel like I'm in Acaponeta.
google avatar

Yelp
Was craving aguachiles and they were delicious like always. The flavor is always on point and their serrano chile sauce is super authentic. Will continue to come here again.

Yelp
One check in and I'm already a fan. Yup! Even the hubby and my daughter are fans!!! Well, the boy got an apple soda, some 25 cent bubble gum, and a picture with one of the spooky Halloween decor dudes, so he's a fan, too!!! Lol... Of course we yelp*ed this place. Except for the cemetery, we're not familiar with the area. We yelp*ed one place with great reviews, but when we drove up, place had a "B" grade. Not to be discriminatory, but I don't dine at places that start with a "B". Great news was that Mariscos Chente was down the street, and they have an "A"!!! Yay!!! We walked in all confused, and the waitress could tell we were. We were prompted to sit wherever we wanted to, so we opted for the covered porch-like area right by the entrance. It's a small place, but every other table was taken (good sign!!!) We ordered our usuals: a campechana without oysters for the hubby, shrimp ceviche (citrus marinated, not cooked) for myself, and my girl ordered her buttered shrimp plate. My boy isn't a fan of seafood yet, and they don't have a kids menu (where we usually order a quesadilla and fries) so he had McD's later... While we waited for our mariscos, we were served really good, thick chips and and really good, watery salsa. The salsa reminded us of an aguachiles kind of taste: spicy and tangy, but good!!! We watched TV on 3 different screens (2 in the room we were in, and one in the main dining room). All the while, people were coming in to enjoy the food here (another good sign!). They don't serve alcohol anymore, and our waitress admitted that the menu needs to be changed/updated. You are welcome to bring your own booze, and they actually recommend you take a quick walk to the liquor store across the way should you feel the need for a good brew with your meal. The couple behind us actually took a few trips across the street, but I'm not judging... Hubby was more than content with his campechana. For the first time in a long time he wasn't able to finish his food!!! The serving was that generous!!! My girl enjoyed her shrimp combo plate. She left the shrimp heads, though. Im'ma have to teach baby girl how to slurp those babies down!!! Myself, the hubby, our waitress, and my bro (via text) told her she's missing out... She's only 11... There still time!!! Lol... I shared some of my shrimp ceviche, and I still left about 7 shrimp on my plate. They serve *a lot* of seafood. The prices all average about $12 a plate, and it's definitely worth the price for all the yum seafood you can try to devour!!! Hubby have the thumbs up to return again when we're in the area. So, Yay!!! to Marisco's Chente!!! Thanks for the great meal!!! Hope it's just as great when we return again later!!!
