LA’s New Restaurant Openings - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"This 80s-era neighborhood Tex-Mex spot in Weho closed in 2020, but after a surprise comeback, they’re open once again. The menu remains packed with classics—tacos, fajitas, enchiladas, and a full margarita menu—but the indoor-outdoor space, which was one of its biggest draws, looks like it got a makeover with a few murals." - cathy park

Marix is back—incredible patio, mediocre Tex-Mex food, and all - Review - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Before this West Hollywood Tex-Mex spot closed in 2020, nights at Marix were always messy, queer, and deeply ceremonial for those who'd been coming to this storied haunt since before the first Bush administration. After five long years, the doors are back open, and a younger generation can finally get in on the fun, too. Just don’t mistake "fun" for great food. Shrimp fajitas are in fact sizzling, but so oversalted that the dish requires aftercare in the form of sleeping with a water bottle for three nights. And the guacamole on everyone’s table tastes close to what you can buy at Gelson’s across the street. video credit: Brant Cox No matter. Weekend lines still form at Marix well before opening and wrap around the corner by 5pm. Why? Because despite the food, spending a night at this mostly-outdoor spot is still a fantastic place to take full advantage of twilight hour. Every party here has at least two margarita pitchers and conversations ranging from the architectural gems of Palm Springs to that time so-and-so got too drunk at Provincetown Pride. Marix is a restaurant, but it’s really a town square—one that never fails to entertain. Food Rundown Shrimp Fajitas Everyone here orders the fajitas, and we could forgive them if they were just oversalted. But $25 for five pieces of shrimp and some sliced onions is another matter. Just order something cheap instead and fill up on chips and salsa. Sizzling Apple Pie Sizzling apple pie at a Tex-Mex restaurant. Get into it. Is it a total copycat of the iconic version at Jones Hollywood? Yes. Is it still the best thing at Marix? Yes. PlayMute video credit: Brant Cox" - Brant Cox

This beloved neighborhood bar is back! Serving its classic margarita by the pitcher and comforting Tex-Mex favorites. For a lot of folks, this place holds lots of memories so many are glad that it’s back! The space is small and they don’t take reservations so you will most likely have to wait a bit. Since it’s newly reopened, we got there around 5:45 and didn’t get seated until about 7 for a party of 5. All was good because we were at the bar drinking margaritas in the meantime. I got the Steak Fajitas and they came out on a sizzling hot plate. Also recommend getting the Apple Pie with Vanilla Ice Cream dessert! It also comes out sizzling with delicious caramel all around!!

Google
Thank goodness for open air seating and delicious food that really has gotten better than before it closed 😋 Seems like it's much healthier and less greasy than I remember! One thing, I assumed everyone in the waiters world would know what "going Dutch" means. But they don't, so much for assuming. It was a learning experience that I was so grateful to be the instructor! Loll GREAT TIME and nice people, with accurate and fast service!

Google
Delicious food and drinks, just like old times! Service was friendly and very attentive. They did over-charge us for drinks we never ordered, and didn’t realize it until after we paid. We just let it slide as it’s their first week open and I’m sure they are working out the kinks. But other than that, it was great and we’ll be back!

Google
Excited they finally reopened & seems like the whole neighborhood was just as eager to welcome them back since they were packed 20 mins into their opening time. Host with the glasses was super welcoming & remembered my name amongst the many other queens who all showed up and were put on a waitlist. Bartenders were slammed making all them fresh margaritas we all remember and love but did a great job. And our server with the curly hair was super friendly. Only gripe is the older, bitter queen who seems to be the owner of sorts who just stands in the corner, very unwelcoming and see him barking at his employees who all seem to be doing their very best. He's of no help & just stands there like a salty guard overlooking everything. There are two other managers who seem to be hands on with their employees but not that one. You'll definitely see him and his snobby face. Besides that, Marix is back! Keep up the good work boys, we've missed you!

GAYEST RESTAURANT IN WEHO!! The crowd really makes this place. Great food. The best “fresh watermelon” margaritas, Santa Fe chop salad and of course taco Tuesday!! Great prices! Perfect place to eat before hitting the Rainbow District Bars and clubs!!

Google
You come to Marix for the charm, cultural iconic status, and to have a low key fun night off pitcher margaritas. The food and drinks haven’t changed since they closed over 5 years ago, and I’m excited to see them being back that charm that made them the go to safe/secluded hangout spot

What a welcome surprise. Marix is open again! Everyone in the neighborhood is happy enjoying the same good food and drinks.

Yelp
Not sure I'll go back...maybe in a few more months. Originally went back for the nostalgia and the place did look like its former self but refreshed. It was crowded and loud...but that's no different than before and to be expected. As a party of three...we never had the chance to try the food as we left after waiting 90 minutes (arrived at 730 left at 9) and went to Bossa Nova a few blocks away. They have a nice app to see where you are in the wait list...but every time the app said we were next...it changed to reflect someone else was ahead of us. When I asked the host he acted like he had no idea about the wait and putting other parties ahead of us (something I've also read in other reviews). At that point we just left....did get a call about 2 minutes after we walked out the door to leave saying our table was ready (how timely??) but at that point we were done and didn't want to wait another hour for food. As I had gone to the Pre-Covid Marix and had plenty a good times....this was a disappointment. The A-lister attitude of the management and general vibe is a bit tiring and not warranted....its not fine dining. Not sure I'll be back....but who knows....cheers...there are a lot of other options to choose from

Yelp
Welcome back Marix! It's been a pandemic. I want you to succeed. A few important notes: 1. Kick ass margarita isn't what it used to be. The balance is off. Too much sweet and sour or a new mix? The tequila is not shining through. Something is off. I know you can do better. 2. Fajitas: onions are not caramelized. Chicken is lacking flavor. Tortillas are tasting very generic -- think high school cafeteria. This is Los Angeles--I know you can get someone to make stellar tortillas! 3. Chips and salsa. Perfect. You've got this. 4. Service: top notch. Waiter was present. Attentive. Thanks Emir! 5. Ambiance and music. Perfect 6. Valet parking: way overpriced. Come on. I'm going out for Mexican. Not parking at the four seasons Beverly Hills. Please work on making things better. Happy to discuss any of the above. Quality and consistency is the key to long term success. Nostalgia will bring people back once.

Yelp
I'm told this is the grand reopening, after Covid however I never was here before they shut down. What a pleasant fun surprise soo great ti have a great Mexican plan in the gayborhood, and it' is such an amazing gay vibe! Felt right at home and was awesome to feel surrounded by other queens. I highly recommend this spot, plus for now the prices are the same as 2019 as gift to the loyalty of their customers!!!! All around spectacular time! The Margaritas were tasty and the food was superb will be back !!!!

Yelp
They nailed the re-open. The service, margaritas and food were just as they were. And the same spirited, open air dining room. Well-done. We'll be back...and often.

Yelp
I was very excited to eat at the newly reopened Marix West Hollywood. The restaurant is now under new ownership. A few friends and I were one of the first three parties in line when the restaurant opened at 5pm. One of my friends has a small service dog. When we asked for a table, the host/owner told us "service dogs are not allowed in the restaurant". Questions about service status (that are not legally allowed) were asked and service papers were provided. We were told the patrons would be "uncomfortable and scared of the dog" and that the "restaurant would be packed for the evening (it was 5 pm) with the dog representing a "safety issue" (not sure what kind of safety issue resides under a table?). We were informed our only option was to eat on the tiny patio up front - - a very small odd space with 3 small two seater hi tops - and little else. When three friends showed up after their work hours ended to grow our party to 6 people, we were curtly told there were no more chairs in the restaurant for us. When a friend went to show the owner the FEDERAL ADA laws for service dogs, He was nasty and unmoved. The experience was unpleasant and the new owner was clearly non-plussed by ADA requirements. Given the hubris of this guy, one can only assume the City of West Hollywood condones violation of the Federal ADA. Food was ok and the segregated space was not enjoyable and difficult for the waiter to maneuver in. Wait staff did their best but it was a bad experience. Tab was $450.

Yelp
I know they just reopened! But........ we waited 1.5 hours for a table that then took over 1.5 hours to even get our food. It's not like they weren't in business before. Reopening should have been smooth. Horrible service. Things were delivered to our table that we didn't even order., I don't have this much time in a day to invest in this. Get your shit together, I work in this industry. Not okay. Will not be back!!

Yelp
A West Hollywood cultural institution has resurrected, and what a win for the city! Visited yesterday with old friends, and it was as if we'd never said goodbye ;). The atmosphere can't be beat, the margaritas flow freely and the service is top notch. Thank you, Marix, for coming back- here's to a bright future!

Yelp
I'm reluctant to give a place five stars - I mean it really has to be extraordinary and I have to go back to see that it wasn't a fluke. However, as they just reopened this week, I was very impressed by our experience last night. Everything went off without a hitch. We waited for about half an hour at the bar with a pitcher of margaritas which is kind of what you want at a place like Marix. (IYKYK) The staff was friendly and the food was delicious. In fact, as others have mentioned, it really does feel as if they never said goodbye. The place has been spruced up including some murals but the open roof is still there. I think that the return of Marix is important to the community. I know of so many folks for whom this was their regular Friday night or Sunday afternoon hangout. Here's to wishing them much success!

Yelp
Went to the newly reopened Marix last night. After checking their website, and various other reviews,we were anxious to return to one of our favorite haunts. According to their website and other reviews,Marix has a happy hour from 4 to 7. We decided to go around 5:30 to take advantage of happy hour and then dinner. We ended up having to wait 20 minutes because they have been packed since the reopening. No problem. We were seated, and when I asked the different prices for the Happy Hour Margaritas..I was told,"Oh,we dont have Happy Hour". Hmmm even though your own web site, and reviews mention Happy Hour. The place is beyond noisy...if you like to sip your Non Happy hour drink while screaming at your dinner mates, this is your place. The food...well..again,if you like dry, tasteless tacos and enchiladas this is the place for you. While they may ride the wave of desperation for a good Mexican restaurant in West Hollywood, unless they get their act together it won't last. There is no excuse to allow your website to include false advertising. Either take it down,or put up a new one with correct prices, and remove the lie that you have a great happy hour. I went, was unimpressed, and won't be back. If you just want to go and be seen by the West Hollywood "in crowd" ,drink overpriced margaritas, and dry, bland food,in a deafeningly loud restaurant ,this is your place.

Yelp
the old girl is BACK! same great location. same great vibe. margaritas are a core memory. the food was good and the service was excellent. welcome back Marix!!!

Mark W.

Yelp
We waited 30 minutes for a table. This was worth it. Had the skinny margarita with chips and also while we waited, I would've been satisfied with just that. We had the chicken enchiladas as an entrée. Portions were generous and enchilada sauce was memorable. The rice and beans were not an afterthought. Wish I had room for the apple pie. Service was attentive despite the rush hour and space was open and airy... perfect for a summer evening. We paid less than $100 for x3 entrees and x2 margaritas. Will be returning soon.

Dominic O.

Yelp
Was looking forward to the re-opening but it was quite disappointing! Our order was completely wrong. We waited another 30 minutes for them to correct it. We had the taco Tuesday plate. The food was not good, meat was very dry and basic. The rice and beans were dry and not flavorful! Ugh, so disappointing! They need to step up on food quality!

Robert C.

Yelp
Went there for the first time in 5 years. Looks great! I had a margarita (had to wait in line at the bar -- just there to drink, not eat -- and that was awkward. There was really nowhere to drink (I was by myself) except the outside area to the right of the bar. They need to get rid of those tables by the bar and put the high chairs back. Also, offer chips and salsa like before, and have a waiter come to you to order the drinks instead of waiting in line at the bar, and also order the *bar food* like before. Just offering suggestions to make it a wonderful experience. MARIX! Thanks for coming back. I'll give it a week or so before going back, and I'm sure the food and service is great as always!

Yelp
Came here because of nostalgic reasons. Went on a Sunday around 5 PM. We knew there would be a long wait, but the host said an hour, and it was two hours. I would have left the first time the host made a flimsy excuse why he couldn't sit at a three-top, but I was patient for my friends. However, when they lost patience and went up and looked at the host's list, he had purposefully skipped up by five or six seatings because I had previously politely asked where we were on the list. Frankly, this place needs to grow up and go onto OpenTable, as the host was put in a horrible position of having to hunt people down who were standing around for an hour. Spoiler alert. He never once attempted to "find us." As for the food, it was a lot cheaper in portions than before. The margaritas were good, but way too strong. I think the waiter thought he was appeasing us by giving up a free double because of the long wait, but I'm not an alcoholic; I would have just preferred a free round of a standard tasting drink. I suggest going in at 6:30. It was dead after the first seating, which should be a warning to the owners. Get your crap together if you want to stay in business. Once the nostalgia fades, there are dozens of other places to go, more than ever than when Marix's was busy eight years ago.

Yelp
Stopped by here while in West Hollywood! First of all, my server,Corey was great and he made it memorable. It was a cool laid back spot--- wish i would have come for taco Tuesday! But anyway... i got some street tacos and a margarita (definitely strong :) ) The salsa was great too so make sure you try it out!!!

Yelp
I loved this place. So sad it closed. Food was good. They had the best KICK ASS MARGARITAS . I hope some day they will open again

Yelp
The only regret I have about this place is that I didn't frequent it sooner since I live three blocks away. I've been living in this neighborhood for 19 years. Service is excellent& the food is extremely tasty and the decor is very funky and chill. Do not believe the reviews... This place is excellent and I will not be a stranger here in the future.

Yelp
Tacos were awesome. They had the vegan option and it was very filling and delicious. Love the vibe. The service was spot on. Our server was very helpful and very attentive. Will definitely be back to try the other dishes.

Yelp
For Marix, coming here on their AYCE Taco Tuesday nights, I'd give the place a 3. Taco are OK, a little better with the crunchy shell instead. But they're rather basic, with the choices of beef, chicken, carnitas or vegetarian (think fajitas without meat). The seating is cramped, and the place is loud (it's packed since AYCE for $10 is a draw). However, what made me give them an extra star was me cancelling my AYCE Veggie Taco order and opted for their vegan tacos, that included a mixture of mushrooms, quinoa, guacamole, cashew crema and soft corn tortillas (AYCE soft tacos were made with flour tortillas, which I despise). It was delicious, though sloppy to eat. Seriously, I should have asked for 2 more corn tortillas as I could have made 4 tacos with the amount of filling they used for 2. Glad they have this option. Our server was polite and on point even though it was a madhouse. Kudos to him and the rest of the staff.
google avatar

Crystal L.

Yelp
This is just -- it's ridiculously average. The food wasn't bad but it wasn't worth coming back for. The place is beyond loud. Normal conversation isn't possible so everyone is talking at super volume. The tables are so closely spaced I honestly don't know how the people in the back of the room are getting their food served to them. I kept being hit by servers trying to navigate in a tiny very tightly packed space. We were sitting so close to the next table I knew all about this stranger's plight and how her second husband thinks she might need to get a part-time job even though he's doing "really well" and she doesn't feel she needs to work but online dating is taking so much of her time and she's come up with a scheme where she never does dinner on a first date but a late coffee meeting that could turn into dinner... It's uncomfortable. There isn't enough room on the tiny tables for your food, the table top advertisements, the sugar container and the salt/pepper... then there is chips and salsa (just OK - I think it's pico not salsa but what do I know?). The menu is OK and covers all the bases - including vegetarian options. I wasn't drinking so maybe that makes it better? But if you ARE drinking here, I can't imagine how you'd make your way to the bathrooms. We had the appetizer guacamole, which is small for $9 (prices on the website aren't accurate). But it was OK... not great. I had a combo plate - cheese enchilada and chile relleno... the red sauce on the chile relleno was overpowering and just way too much - sort of like a marinara - so sweet and cloying. But the enchilada was good. My SO had the "wild green enchiladas" and she likes spicy food - but these were hot even for her. But OK. Neither dish was something we'd come back for, but both were decent. Service is friendly but they're working in such tight quarters. And when that happens, they're going to spill water when they're trying to refill glasses, because everyone is being jostled about. Of course, I ended up being seated (practically on top of) people I knew... it's that kind of place. Either you know someone already or you're going to get to know them - i.e. woman at next table with a lot of ex-husbands and no work ethic but an online dating plan. Valet parking is $7 and is a fright. No one knows what to do - the place you're supposed to pull in is so tight and some people just leave their car in front which really messes up traffic on Flores - a narrow street to begin with. Will we go back? No. We like a little more relaxed atmosphere and to actually be able to talk during dinner. But it's not bad. We ate our meals and didn't hate the food. But for the prices and the hassle... No, I wouldn't recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
The food's not bad. All you can eat Taco's on Taco-Tuesday. The inside of the restaurant is not very impressive and I think the decor could be better, but I'm really just there for the food. Fresh chips and salsa shortly after being seated. We also ordered a side of Guac, which was very tasty. I first ordered 3 soft tacos, which I wasn't a fan of.....believe it or not the soft tacos made the difference. I loved the same tacos I ordered when I went with hard shell tacos. Yes, HARD is better. :-) I recommend you trying the variety of them. My personal favorite are the beef tacos, not so much a fan of the chicken. The flavor and seasoning in the beef tacos are pretty incredible. The side of rice and beans are just okay. It really is Tex-Mex food. Not as much spices as I would like. I thought the waiter was attentive. He checked up on us often and made sure we had everything we needed. The prices aren't bad at all. Valet parking is not necessary. Seem like it's the only option, but there's actaully plenty of street parking one block East on Sweetzer. There's also parking across the way on King.

Megann R.

Yelp
I always drive by this place so I've always wanted to try it, finally got the chance to Stop by, the food is good / average Mexican food nothing spectacular, the service is just ok we had to find our waiter a few times to get a refill on drinks but I would go back and recommend this place. Side note parking is Valet only and they take only cash the good news is there is a gelsons right across the street that has an atm. So I do recommend bringing cash for parking.

Yelp
This place wins alone for location and ambiance. It's tucked away just a little north of Santa Monica Blvd. on Flores St. Definitely has a neighborhood feel. Inside has a lot of greenery that you can see from the seating so be prepared to feel like you're in the jungle. Love it. Food is like your typical Mexican restaurant and they do margaritas of course by the pitcher. I'd say come here for brunch and get your drink on. Afterwards, you'll have food in your stomach already to hit up the rest of the bars in the area...or stumble to the rest. Your choice.

Yelp
That salmon bowl was soooooooo good. I tore it up! After a long day of work I met with my co-workers at Marix Tex Mex Cafe. Feeling like Ms. Pac Man I decided to ordered a salmon bowl so I could get the best of all worlds: veggies, rice and fish. After eating I was once again myself. No more the savage hungry monster that I was before I stepped into the establishment. Everyone else seemed to be happy with their entrees as well. I didn't hear any complaints. The ambiance is very intimate and quite dark. We tried to take photos and some were a hit and some were a miss due to lighting at night.
google avatar

Greg S.

Yelp
I've known of and been to Marix for, I don't know, maybe 30 years??? Haven't visited in over a decade. We came here to meet up with a relative, and enjoy some good TexMex food. They don't take reservations, and the place gets crowded really fast. So, either get there early, or plan on a wait. If you have never been here before, it used to be a little house just off of Santa Monica Blvd. (on Flores), that has been, well, 'altered' to make it a two level (retractable) covered patio dining experience. It can get really loud in here, but that is pretty much the 'atmosphere' of Marix. Bring your friends, or meet some new friends. It's a great time here. The food is good, the service is friendly. . . .the margaritas legendary
google avatar

Kelly J.

Yelp
If I want to walk closeby to get my margarita and chip fix, this is one of my go-to neighborhood spots. Chips and salsa are always abundant and their chili con queso is pretty good. Tacos are fair and on the smaller side. Figure 3-4 bites per taco. Margies are good and happy hour is a decent value, but only served on the patio, which is pleasant. The food on the whole is fine, but I wouldn't go as far to say that's it's that authentic - it reminds me of El Torito Grill. Service is good and attentive, the place is clean and I've never had a hard time getting a table here. Ambience is nice and always filled with local color, which can be entertaining. Check out the Taco Tuesday - $8 for all you can eat.

Yelp
Firstly, wonderful service from the hostess, our waiter and the cooks that made our meals so quickly. They have happy hour every day on drinks (the margaritas are strong!) and dessert. I started my meal with a skinny margarita on the rocks and chips and guacamole. Their house made pico de gallo is also really tasty with fresh tomato onion and bits of jalapeno for a surprise kick. Their food portions are quite generous with good quality ingredients. I shared the shrimp fajitas- it was quite a feast with rice, beans, cheese, guacamole and tortilla. Another person at the table ordered the Cubano-- which he shared with the rest of the table as well. The steak was juicy and flavorful, and my favorite part, the plantains, added a nice sweetness to have with the rest of the savory meal. Lastly-- you will think this is odd, but get the banana margarita blended-- so refreshing! The restaurant is kept so so dark it was a bit difficult to read the menu, but they have a lot of windows, so I'm sure in LA they usually get plenty of natural sunlight. Great place for a date- if your date doesn't mind spicy mexican food! Valet parking in the alley next door for $7 but there is also a public parking structure a block away on King St if you can't find a metered spot along Santa Monica Blvd.

Yelp
I think the AYCE Taco Tuesday is kind of an amazing deal. Seriously, where else are you gonna get something this cheap. They get you on the drinks though! The major issue here is the consistency of the tacos. I prefer the carnitas or steak crunchy tacos. I had some pretty amazing ones where the salsa, amount of cheese was perfectly integrated. But I also had some pretty nasty soft tacos with way too much cheese. So I guess it all depends on your luck. I did see some fajitas come out that smoked enough to fill an entire room. Pretty awesome. Wonder how that tasted. In any case, I like this place for its decor. It's cozy and people are obviously having a good time.

Yelp
I really like this place. the dining room kinda looks like a restaurant you'd see on isla mujeres or at a resort in tulum. Not lavish per se, but there's a simplistic charm to it for sure. There's a salad here that's one of my favorites in la. mesquite grilled chicken, mixed greens, sliced fruit with figs and almonds. I order it every time. i dont eat tacos but my friends have really enjoyed theirs here. It's a homey delight! I will be back again =)

Yelp
Had a fun time here - it was crazy crowded and totally happening at 3pm on a Saturday, too. The margarita pitcher was great and my group got pretty rowdy finishing up a couple of them. * SHORT RIB TACOS - 4 stars pic: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/marix-tex-mex-cafe-west-hollywood-3?select=csREqfrgW3OlsBZIRIHxJg#thpOcfaL0f3h-G_8sv2nHg (CHILE BRAISED SHORT RIBS, CHILE DE ARBOL SALSA, PICKLED RED ONION, SLICED AVOCADO. $12) This had good, tasty meat, but there was not much of it. The giant slices of avocado were awkwardly placed and made it hard to take bites. * QUESO FUNDIDO - 3.5 stars pic: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/marix-tex-mex-cafe-west-hollywood-3?select=csREqfrgW3OlsBZIRIHxJg#csREqfrgW3OlsBZIRIHxJg (AGED CHEESES, HOUSEMADE CHORIZO & CHILE RAJAS - "MAKE YOUR OWN QUESADILLAS". $7.50) A big bowl of melted cheese - always works w/ tortilla chips. Just wish there was more chorizo than the little dollop that comes on top.

Yelp
Visiting LA and found this taco place near by. Luckily they have "all you can eat tacos" on Tuesdays for only $11.95, and $3 each. If you plan to eat more than four then it's a pretty good deal for you. It comes with rice / beans on side.

Yelp
Damn damn damn.As a child, my family and I frequented the now defunct Pch estblshmnt, an enchanted land of coy fish ponds, grilling fajita scents, and great memories. Since moving to weho last year, my girl and I have been wanting to try the place i spoke so highly of! What better night than a taco tuesday to get some all you can eat taco fair, and at a LA staple? What could go wrong? Mostly everything except the margarita and chips. Firstly, we walk in to a full house and nobody there to great us.Wait 2 minutes before walking ourselves to the bar where we are asked if we want a table(duh) and are asked to wait.15 minutes go by and while waiters rush to the aid of yuppy upscale couples, my mexican gf and I are overlooked for 20 mins.We then sit and wait, when a random busboy asks us if we have been helped "no" i reply. Great service so far. After 15 more mins we are seated.Ready to eat we dive into the tacos, one of each. When they arrive, to our dismay, the crunchy shells are Ortega premade shells from Ralphs, trader joes shredded cheese, and fatty greazy tendonous darkmeat chicken and onion tacos??? The shredded beef was more of a Alpo/Guisado (quote me), and the carnitas tasted like the chicken should have tasted?Meanwhile the place is buzzing with rich white people from out of town, who cant tell the diff from good mexican food and prison cafeteria garbage served with a dash of salsa. Hey at leasy the marg was served tall, will never ever come back here, much rather spend the same amount at El Coyote.

Yelp
Great food, great service, great atmosphere, and the BEST margaritas ever. The margaritas make my knees warm -- soooo good. Can't wait for Marix to reopen!!

Yelp
My fiancé had recently been here with his friends to grab drinks and happy hour food and had good things to say! it was a fun spot. Always a fan of trying a new spot-my sister and her boyfriend were in town and all four of us wanted to grab some happy hour treats. We headed here late afternoon/early evening and we were able to walk right in with no reservation. It was very calm and hadn't packed in, just yet. We walked in we were told we could choose anywhere we wanted to be seated. There's limited outdoor seating, but mostly indoors. However - the indoors is an open area so it kind of makes you feel like you're outside. Our server came right over to us and we immediately ordered happy hour margaritas followed by yes - of course we want guacamole with our chips! We each ordered a different dish. I was feeling like I ate a lot of chips already, so I went for a grilled salmon salad, everyone else got traditional Tex-Mex food - fish tacos, enchiladas, chicken tacos, etc. Everyone was pretty pleased with their meals however it wasn't the best Mexican food I've ever had! What really floored me, was the bill. Although some of us ordered off of the happy hour menu, our bill was almost $200. We really didn't order that much, heck, I only ordered one margarita. It was a skinny take on a margarita, but not a skinny margarita. It was mostly silver tequila a little bit of lime juice and lemon served up. It was delicious and I would go back there for just that. Overall, food was OK, OK environment, OK service, but truly-I wasn't really interested in going back in paying $200.

Yelp
This place was great, I'd definitely come back! A gaggle of girls and I came here on a Friday around 4pm to celebrate my friend's birthday. She comes here regularly and lives close by. We started out in the restaurant, which only serves Happy Hour drinks, not the Happy Hour food menu FYI. If you sit in their outdoor patio (which is small, only about 5 high tops total, which we took over most of :). The bar does serve Happy Hour food and is behind the dining area. It's a casual vibe in there - nothing too overdone, simple and definitely old. But I love how bright the restaurant part is - tons of windows and skylights. We primarily had pitchers of margaritas the whole time - which were really good, but one of those where you don't know how dangerous they are. They don't TASTE strong, at first, but they also just kept bringing them out to us left and right, and they were getting stronger as time went on. I like a good, strong marg, so I had no problem with this. We had street tacos and quesadillas from the HH menu, both which were really good. The street tacos are small, but filling, and you can mix and match what kind you get (ie. one beef, one carnitas). Guacamole happened at some point... tequila shots... a very friendly and patient waiter named Chris... all in all Marix has my vote. I could see this place also being great for hungover brunch/lunch.

Yelp
Really good kick ass margaritas, and note I had 2 before I ate. They were accurate about the wait time and amazed me when they remembered who we were 30 minutes later. Salsa is SUPER good! Chips are flaky and guacamole is great. 3 stars are for the overall food. The chile rellanos are very eggy with the chile watery inside. The chicken taquitos were okay, but bland as was the green sauce. The beef taco had a nice crunchy shell but the beef was just okay. Beans were...okay. Rice was good. It seemed hit and miss. But its all determined by your own personal preference. At $18.50 for a combo plate it is not for me.

Yelp
This place has always been a favorite of mine for 12 years now. Service is always superb. Food is delightful. Most recently got the Cabo fajita and split them with my friend. It was more than enough food for two and really fresh ingredients. Got the shrimp and steak. And the margaritas are a great deal! The blood orange house is my favorite and it's huge for $10!

Yelp
My team and I visited here for lunch. Very cute spot off a side street that you wouldn't be able to see from the main road (Santa Monica Blvd.). The service was absolutely incredible but the food was even better. Very big portion sizes so be prepared to get FULL! I ordered a burrito with a little shrimp inside since the menu didn't have too many vegetarian options. The food was really good and I'd definitely recommend it for a quiet lunch on Santa Monica Blvd.

Yelp
Haven't been here in a while and I remember why . The food is mediocre at best the staff is rude . We had it delivered even worse . Expensive and definitely not worth it. I forgot to take pics of my tacos which the meat was tough but I took a pic of the $6 side salad . It's pretty hilarious looking

Yelp
Have to say one of the best Americanized Mexican food I've had in a long time. Ordered the chicken burrito (wet) and not only was it delivered fast but the taste was on point. Make sure to try both sauces cause the enchilada sauce was excellent and the green sauce was tasty so you decide.

Yelp
~Never Again Marix Cafe~ I've been going to this place since I was a kid and how I was treated today was absurd. The manager was very short and tempered and super inconsiderate about my service dog. He told me that since I'm not blind or deaf I can't have my service animal. Not legal in the state of California. Very strange. By law any registered service animal with a vest and doctors note can accompany me when I eat in restaurants. Had to eat next door at Basix Cafe which was actually amazing and they have great food! The Marix Cafe in Malibu is way better and their service is so much nicer! Never Never Never again Marix Cafe in WeHo

Yelp
Marix has the best shrimp tacos and queso dip. Pretty bummed it's been closed every since the pandemic and hope it opens back up soon. Oh yeah and they have the best kick ass margarita

Yelp
I'm starting to notice a pattern of my 5 star reviews at Mexican restaurants! However, Marix truly deserves their 5 stars. What I liked about Marix when I first went years ago was that it was clearly a spot for locals. The staff knew people by name and the customers knew the staff by name. In the midst of a big city that always makes me feel happy. I could go on and on about how good their crab and shrimp enchiladas are, how nice it is to eat there during the summer when they open the roof up, or how many laughs I've had over their margarita pitchers.. but one thing I'll always know is that whenever someone offers up Marix as an option for breakfast lunch or dinner I will always say yes.

Yelp
Our favorite Los Angeles Mexican restaurant. Nice outdoor patio and Happy Hour. Good blended Margaritas. And the grilled shrimp fajitas with flour tortillas and all the fixings, are sizzlin' good.

Yelp
A neighborhood favorite - this is a very fun place to go to. There's people getting drunk off of margarita pitchers and they play pop music in the background. The food is pretty good and hits the spot. There's also no roof, which is pretty cool. Make sure you dress appropriately! The wait staff is excellent. They knew what they were doing and they were very attentive. Our server was Matthew and he was excellent. I'd definitely come back here.

Yelp
This place always puts a smile on our faces walking into the open bright patio sitting down for some seriously strong margies and guacamole. The food is pretty standard Tex Mex but always satisfying. The waiters are great and the patio is dog friendly.
