LA’s New Restaurant Openings - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"This 80s-era neighborhood Tex-Mex spot in Weho closed in 2020, but after a surprise comeback, they’re open once again. The menu remains packed with classics—tacos, fajitas, enchiladas, and a full margarita menu—but the indoor-outdoor space, which was one of its biggest draws, looks like it got a makeover with a few murals." - cathy park

Marix is back—incredible patio, mediocre Tex-Mex food, and all - Review - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Before this West Hollywood Tex-Mex spot closed in 2020, nights at Marix were always messy, queer, and deeply ceremonial for those who'd been coming to this storied haunt since before the first Bush administration. After five long years, the doors are back open, and a younger generation can finally get in on the fun, too. Just don’t mistake "fun" for great food. Shrimp fajitas are in fact sizzling, but so oversalted that the dish requires aftercare in the form of sleeping with a water bottle for three nights. And the guacamole on everyone’s table tastes close to what you can buy at Gelson’s across the street. video credit: Brant Cox No matter. Weekend lines still form at Marix well before opening and wrap around the corner by 5pm. Why? Because despite the food, spending a night at this mostly-outdoor spot is still a fantastic place to take full advantage of twilight hour. Every party here has at least two margarita pitchers and conversations ranging from the architectural gems of Palm Springs to that time so-and-so got too drunk at Provincetown Pride. Marix is a restaurant, but it’s really a town square—one that never fails to entertain. Food Rundown Shrimp Fajitas Everyone here orders the fajitas, and we could forgive them if they were just oversalted. But $25 for five pieces of shrimp and some sliced onions is another matter. Just order something cheap instead and fill up on chips and salsa. Sizzling Apple Pie Sizzling apple pie at a Tex-Mex restaurant. Get into it. Is it a total copycat of the iconic version at Jones Hollywood? Yes. Is it still the best thing at Marix? Yes. PlayMute video credit: Brant Cox" - Brant Cox

This beloved neighborhood bar is back! Serving its classic margarita by the pitcher and comforting Tex-Mex favorites. For a lot of folks, this place holds lots of memories so many are glad that it’s back! The space is small and they don’t take reservations so you will most likely have to wait a bit. Since it’s newly reopened, we got there around 5:45 and didn’t get seated until about 7 for a party of 5. All was good because we were at the bar drinking margaritas in the meantime. I got the Steak Fajitas and they came out on a sizzling hot plate. Also recommend getting the Apple Pie with Vanilla Ice Cream dessert! It also comes out sizzling with delicious caramel all around!!

Visited a Tex-Mex spot in L.A. and had such a great experience. The staff were really welcoming and made the visit feel comfortable from the start. I ordered the Mexican salad, and it was delicious, fresh and flavorful. Overall, a great place with tasty food and warm vibes.

Google
An amazing atmosphere, providing a nostalgic feel along with delicious contemporary TexMex cuisine. And do not miss the sizzling apple pie dessert. I’ve had dreams about it. It’s so good.

Don't go here if you know what good Tex Mex is. As someone from Texas, this food was not good. We got queso (BAD) and guac (good enough), fajitas that were dry and flavorless and short rib tacos that were subpar. Prices were great for LA but l'd rather pay a bit more for better food. The house margs weren't the worst but do NOT get a frozen strawberry marg unless you like slightly flavored half melted slushies. Atmosphere is awesome just not enough room for all the tables and people in there. Wish I had better things to say, I really wanted to love this place! Update 10/11 with response to owner: Hey I’m glad to hear all that! And I do hope you guys continue to serve for another 41 years. I can always Appreciate great service and great business ownership. Just had to do my duty as a patron who had an opinion! That’s what the review system is for after all. It’s all love and I wish you guys many many years to come!

Matrix Tex Mex Cafe in Los Angeles absolutely won us over. The atmosphere was fun from the moment we walked in. The music was fire, the whole place had great energy, and the murals on the walls made everything feel lively and creative. It’s the kind of spot where you instantly feel like you picked the right restaurant. The food was just as impressive. Huge portions, tons of flavor, and an amazing selection that truly has something for everyone. Whether you’re picky, adventurous, or somewhere in between, you’re going to find a plate you love. But the real MVP of the night was our server, Bobby. He was warm, attentive, and somehow made us feel like longtime regulars within minutes. He treated my teens like actual adults (a rare skill, honestly) and made the whole experience even better. Great vibe, great food, great people. Matrix Tex Mex is absolutely worth a visit.

First time visiting this West Hollywood staple and we were so excited to finally experience a piece of local history and the vibe everyone talks about. Service was super prompt and friendly, and I can confirm this is still one of the gayest spots in town; and I mean that in the best way possible. The chips and salsa were a cute touch, but the salsa honestly just tasted like tomatoes with a sprinkle of salt. The Short Rib Taco plate had one saving grace, the chile de árbol salsa, which was actually delicious. The short rib itself was dry and definitely seemed like it had been shredded in a stand mixer. Edible, but not something I’d order again. We also tried the carnitas tacos, which broke my date’s heart with how dry they were. Served with raw diced red onion, which just felt out of place. Overall, it’s probably a great spot for beers and catching up with friends, but if you’re coming for the food, it’s a miss. I really hope they tighten up the quality because this place has so much heart and history behind it.

Google
I somehow never knew about this place, despite living in West Hollywood for 15 years. I think it’s a very pleasant, reasonably priced tex mex place for a chill dinner. Nothing is particularly notable, but the food is pretty good, the service was very nice, and I appreciated the reasonably priced drinks. I think a couple of improvements could really take this place to the next level: more upbeat music, more appropriate tex mex decor. But all in all, a pretty solid experience.

Went recently visited to try the reopened version. Same look. Food was fair. Margaritas were good. Nice servers but was served the wrong dish initially. The wait time for food was very long (over 25 minutes). The reason for the 2 star review and not 3 stars was the poor attitude of the manager on duty and his disrespect. We waited for a table of 4 and there were 3 of us while we waited for our friend to arrive. One in our party knew the manager but that did not seem to affect his behavior. The manager said to us that it is a policy that he could not sit 3 people at a 4 top, so he squeezed us into a corner table that fit 3 while we waited for our friend to arrive (which when he did, he was squeezed into the table.) OK fine...that's the "policy". We can respect that. However, the guests in front of us were 3 people, and we saw that they were sat at a 4 top. Then, we noticed the guests in line behind us were 3 people and they were sat at another 4 top! At that point, we wondered what was going on. The person in our party who knew the manager politely asked whether we could sit at a 4 top. The manager restated the policy and when he was told that he just sat 2 tables of 3 at two 4 tops, he just smiled with no response. It appeared that the manager's disrespect was intentional. If you are not going to abide by the policy and not treat all guests fairly, then eliminate the policy for all guests. At least show some respect for the guest by acknowledging him, and better yet try to rectify the situation. I have worked in restaurants and understand the importance of respecting guests. Apparently, this manager has much to learn about guest service and respect.

Yelp
I used to go to Marix almost every week when I first moved to Los Angeles. No one was more disappointed than I was when it closed. So when I heard that it had reopened I was thrilled. I was so afraid that I was gonna be disappointed because the old Marix was really hard to live up to. But I could not have been more wrong. It's like I went back in time! The food is excellent! And of course you start every meal with the complementary chips and salsa. The margaritas are insanely good. The only difference is that they're served in tumblers instead of the traditional margarita glasses. One sip and the familiar essence of the perfect margarita is revisited. The Server is no longer wear the custom T-shirts, but the service was just as excellent. We were greeted at the front door with a pleasant compliment and seated almost immediately. In a time of inflation and high prices, Marix has the same prices as it did when I first started going there. My margarita was $10 on a boulevard where the average price of a drink is $25. No need to worry about water down drinks here. One sip and I was happily tipsy. I had the famous shrimp, margaritas, and they were just as delicious if not better than before. The vegetables were fresh. The tortillas were amazing and the shrimp had that snap that you want with every bite. The roof still opens and the noise complaints have apparently been squashed by the owners purchasing nearby residences. The mirrors on the wall have been repainted so they're freshly bright and colorful. The crowd is a little younger than I remembered. But of course that's because I've grown older. It's still rambunctious and delightful. And I'm so glad it's back.

Yelp
Marix was one of our regular haunts for years, so I was genuinely sad when it closed. When it finally reopened, I couldn't wait to go back. The most surprising part? Prices are exactly where they were when the doors shut years ago. The food is much the same as well--solid, average Tex-Mex. The enchiladas and tacos are perfectly fine, just not the reason you come here. But once that first margarita hits the table, none of that really matters. Add in great chips and salsa, and you're reminded why this place has such loyal fans. Our server, Garrett, was terrific--friendly, attentive, and even brought water for my dog, which always earns extra points. Marix is officially back in the rotation, especially on Taco Tuesday.

Yelp
This is a quaint location and lovely looking exterior that welcomes you into a tree lined neighborhood. The place was well appointed with numerous table accommodating many. The waiter was very jovial in his greeting and immediately brought us chips and salsa. We also opted for the guacamole that was excellent and avocado forward which I love. The chips seemed freshly made, however there wasn't a hint of salt on them, I had to ask for a salt shaker to enhance mine. I opted for the 2 item special which included a chile relleno and a beef taco. They were tasty but lack luster, the chile relleno just seemed like an afterthought and the taco was too crunchy (I should have chosen the soft taco option) the meat chunks were a little chewy. Since I didn't opt for beans and rice, I was offered a side salad instead, which I thought was a nice service. The star of the show was the Margatini (top shelf) it was brutally shaken and served in a nice wide mouthed martini glass filled to the brim. I would love to return just for the beverage I just mentioned and chips and guacamole.

Yelp
Not a bad burrito but not the burrito I'm going for when I want a burrito. Old-school tex-mex spot with a modest menu and major portions. Refried beans were pretty good and I usually don't like refried beans

Yelp
Marix is back ... and all I can say is FINALLY!! One of my favorite spots ever, and having it reopened in Weho after a 5-year closure did not disappoint. The margaritas are as strong and delicious as ever, the chips and guac are plentiful, and the fajitas are big enough to share with a friend (hot tip: get the blackened chicken for a little extra spice). And the best part? They kept their 2019 pricing! A pitcher of margaritas is under $30. Do yourself a favor and come here immediately -- Weho's fave neighborhood spot is BACK!

Yelp
The famous Marix Tex Mex Cafe finally re-opened after Covid. What a delight to have one of the good 'ol' restaurants come back again with some of the prior staff members that keep this place fabulous. The food was amazing and delicious and it's already on our list to frequently repeat. The ambiance is casual, clean and nice - but for those who have never been here, the seating is cramped up to one-another BUT is totally okay because the guests are all fabulous. We had the pitcher of Marix Margaritas with free chips and salsas, ordered the guacamole which was fantastic. Follow d by the Enchiladas Suizas and the Jorge's Crab+Shrimp Enchiladas. Honestly, the Jorge's was much better than the Suizas. Marix is a happening place - so come and enjoy a nice dinner or brunch and some splendid drinks. Upon re-opening, the prices remain the same when they closed in 2019 (I think this continues for one year). Marix is a must.

Yelp
Located in West Hollywood Marix Tex Mex restaurant is a fun place to go for drinks and dinner. When you walk in your greeted with big smiles and great energy. The host, the servers and the bartenders all love being there and it shows. This is a great place to bring a date, family or people from the office. It's a social, friendly and flirty atmosphere. The inside is very charming and they have a big sky ceiling that opens up, which is perfect for Southern California. The margaritas are very generous and the food is absolutely delicious. We are definitely making this restaurant on our monthly rotation.! Marix Tex Mex in West Hollywood gets our five star yelp review and our personal recommendation! You will go and have a great time bon appétit!

Yelp
I have been to Marix on a few occasions since their re-opening. Sadly, it is no longer the fun, lively and tasty place I once knew. My last visit was on Halloween 2025 and it was okay. Ambiance: Pleasant Service: Okay Food: Okay. Their pitcher of margarita (skinny) was nothing to holler about and a bit pricey for the majority of the pitcher to be ice and not margarita. Overall, I rate Marix a 3 on a scale from 1 to 5, 5 being great. If you haven't been back since the reopening, give Marix a try. Hopefully, your experience will be a 4 or a 5.

Yelp
Looking for a casual, affordable, and socially-vibey restaurant in Weho...? Marix is officially back and open. You can tell when you walk in that this is a favorite among the locals. I stepped in early on a Friday night, and the space was buzzing with everyone celebrating happy hour to early dinner bites before a night out. There are no reservations here, but you don't need one... although you may have to wait a bit for a table during peak hours on the weekends. The food is pretty standard Tex Mex, I think the tacos I had were pretty solid and a decent price for restaurant tacos. The Margaritas here are a decent deal, we had a few Watermelon margaritas that night. Finish off with the sizzling Apple Pie for a little fun treat. All in all, an easy spot to come in over again... with my love of breakfast burritos I may try to come back during brunch hours sometime

Yelp
I was sincerely excited to try Marix. It's local, the space has allure, and this is apparently its big comeback. Never did I expect that after my visit I'd be writing about the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. From the moment I kindly noted I'd stick to water, the server made a sarcastic comment about my choice. Something felt off right from the start. My friend enjoyed his meal and finished it. I wasn't too fond of my order--the fish tacos were underwhelming--but not terrible. When our server did a final check-in and asked if I wanted a box, I said no. He asked if I hadn't enjoyed my meal, and I gave an honest but gentle, "I didn't love it," adding that I'd had an upset stomach earlier in the day. I really thought that would be the end of it, as in most restaurants such feedback is met with a simple, "I'm sorry to hear that". In fact, the co-manager, Michael, came over shortly after to check on us. He apologized for any inconvenience, offered me dessert, and I politely declined. I told him the new space was beautiful, and we had a very pleasant exchange. But when the server returned with my check and card, he slammed a pen onto the table and, in a scornful tone, said I had "been a delight." He then threatened loud enough for others to hear that he hoped to see me back and that "the food will hopefully be better, but your service definitely won't be". If you're coming to drink, socialize, and keep dining expectations low, you might enjoy this place--and you're probably less likely to have an interaction like mine. My experience suggests to me that the energy here suits a certain type of guest, and I'm simply not that type. That said, I still root for Marix. I believe it has potential, and I hope its entire team can prioritize giving every guest--regardless of who they are or what they order--the grace and kindness we all deserve.

Yelp
Marix is iconic. Period. Is the food great? It's very passable. SO glad it's back in WeHo. A fun, gay good time. Pre-pandemic pricing and sweet present staff don't hurt.

Yelp
My first time here, came in for a margarita and was not disappointed! the music and open space of the restaurant was a vibe, i loved being able to enjoy a good meal without breaking the bank. Not really a thing these days the kickass margarita was definitely something i'd come back for, not a huge desert person but the banana cream pie was light and not too sweet! service was quick, all of the servers are great and attentive and friendly definitely will come back

Yelp
A small backstory. My partner has been telling me about this place since we first met 4 years ago. He was anxiously waiting for it to reopen. When it finally did, he was itching to go. Well we went last Saturday. I was disappointed. First he didnt warn me how loud it was. It sounded like the club. Apparently its always been like this this is just my warning for others who may not know. It was a 45 minute wait with nowhere to sit. Chips and Salsa: Salsa needed more salt, chips were good. I wanted puffy tacos, they said they had none. I settled for the Tres Enchiladas. The red sauce is very dark, darker than Ive seen elsewhere and I didnt care for the flavor. Since it was very saucy I cant even say I tasted the meat. One beef, one chicken, one cheese, the sauce overpowered them all. My biggest complaint with this dish was the tiny scoop of beans and rice. My partner showed me previous pics of when it was open before they used to give more. He ordered some type of steak that he said was not cooked well, like it was boiled or something and those onions looked like someone threw them on the grill for all of 2 minutes and they no longer had this chimichurri sauce he loved ( I looked up old menu and discovered this dish was the Cubano something that is no longer offered). This is positive and negative but the food came out way too fast (positive for fast food) for there to be any proper cooking for a steak and onions (negative). The only thing I enjoyed about this place was the margaritas. Overall the food wasn't great and it was too loud for me. I do recognize and acknowledge what this place means/meant to the locals, my partner included, so good for them for opening back up. Maybe they just have to find their footing again.

Rick P.

Yelp
Made it back to Marix Sunday for lunch and got there before the 1:00 o'clock crowd. Server Garrett made the impossible look easy; a sign of a real pro dealing with the slam. My tex-mex carnitas burrito was the best ever with big chunks of finely tuned meat oozing with juices creating a scrumptious tasting experience I hadn't had in years in any burrito anywhere. Many thanks again to Angel G. and great manager Mark for clearing up gift card confusion. My love for going to Marix lives strongly inside me, and I look forward to returning soon; probably on Xmas eve, a long standing tradition for me that the pandemic robbed.

Yelp
Glad they are back open for brunch. Our server Bobby was not only eye candy, he was very entertaining as a server and recommended some great entrees. The manager also goes out of his way to make sure everything is well run. We'll be back

Charles C.

Yelp
Best margaritas I've ever had. Six margarita seven margarita eight margarita nine margarita show ya ass margarita. Yeah. I spilled a drink and cleaned it up and the bar manager gave me a new one what more could you ask for? The food. Bomb. The staff. Bomb. It was great. I didn't spill my drink btw there was an earthquake. Wasn't my fault. 10 margarita. 6 stars would come again.

Yelp
Food was good, ambiance was nice and service was excellent. For me, the place was too loud. If you do not mind, I can recommend the place. Just make sure you come early. They do not take reservations and the line was long.

Yelp
Not sure I'll go back...maybe in a few more months. Originally went back for the nostalgia and the place did look like its former self but refreshed. It was crowded and loud...but that's no different than before and to be expected. As a party of three...we never had the chance to try the food as we left after waiting 90 minutes (arrived at 730 left at 9) and went to Bossa Nova a few blocks away. They have a nice app to see where you are in the wait list...but every time the app said we were next...it changed to reflect someone else was ahead of us. When I asked the host he acted like he had no idea about the wait and putting other parties ahead of us (something I've also read in other reviews). At that point we just left....did get a call about 2 minutes after we walked out the door to leave saying our table was ready (how timely??) but at that point we were done and didn't want to wait another hour for food. As I had gone to the Pre-Covid Marix and had plenty a good times....this was a disappointment. The A-lister attitude of the management and general vibe is a bit tiring and not warranted....its not fine dining. Not sure I'll be back....but who knows....cheers...there are a lot of other options to choose from

Yelp
I want to preface this by saying I've always loved Marix, back before it closed down for a few years due to COVID. That being said, here's the nuts to butts honest review. It hurts to write this, given how much I irrationally love the place, but it is what it is. 1) You don't really come here for a full meal if you know what you're doing. You come here for chips and Margs - and maybe to split an entree. If you come with expectations beyond that, you will probably be disappointed. Chips and Margs is 85% of the full experience - so it works great as a place to grab drinks and apps before your dinner elsewhere. 2) The Margs are fantastic. Get the Kickass Margarita - this is why you come here. If I was giving a rating based on Margs and chips, I'd give it 4* easily. 2)The food is OK - ish. Avoid steak add ons to any orders like the Queso Fundido. Also avoid steak in general; across multiple orders and across several visits, the chef drastically overcooks the meat and oversalts it as well. My educated guess is the chef is a bit overworked and leaves the itty bitty pieces of steak on the grill 20 seconds too long. But tiny pieces of meat cook through in seconds, so clearly the chef is pulled in too many directions to put out properly cooked steak to medium rare. 3) On that note, just avoid the Queso Fundido altogether. The cheese doesn't come out as melted as it should and within 4 minutes it will become too hard to spread. Compare that with a place like Cantina Frida in Beverly Hills, where the queso remains spreadable for 10 minutes, and it's no contest. Really not worth the price of $19.50 (including tax). 4) The vibe and atmosphere is very fun. They have open air ceilings which really adds a lot to the experience. But it's not like, a Mexican spot -- it's more like a gay club dressed up in a bandido's outfit. I don't mind it, in fact I enjoy it mostly, but if that's not your cup of tea just know what you're signing up for. It is WeHo after all. You won't find mexican music here, it's club music - very loud club music. You'll have to speak louder than normal for your dinner companion to hear you. 5) Most nights it's excessively booked up and one hour waits are very common. I expect this will change very soon since the hype of the opening is naturally plateauing and once I see that this changes, I'll update the review to reflect it. 6) If you can get a table, service is excellent. I would love to give this spot a 4* or 5*, but I just can't. I go for the atmosphere and the margs that I don't have to make myself. Locals know what's up.

Yelp
WEHO IS BACK, BABY -- AND SO IS MARIX! WOOOOOW. We couldn't wait to run--not walk--back to MARIX after the grand reopening, and honey... they did not disappoint! From the moment we walked in, it was giving sunshine, sass, and sizzling fajitas! The vibe? IMMACULATE. The staff? EXEMPLARY. The Margies? ICE-COLD AND EVERYTHING. The crowd? QUEER JOY ON FULL DISPLAY. Huge shoutout to BOBBY -- our server, our angel, our margarita whisperer -- who took amazing care of us with humor, charm, and just the right amount of tequila encouragement. ‍ We laughed, we clinked glasses, we dished, we dipped chips like we were born for it -- and for one blissful moment, it felt like old-school WeHo joy met fresh fab energy. You can taste the love in every bite (and every frozen margarita swirl). MARIX is back and gayer than ever -- and we're HERE FOR IT. Congratulations to the whole team. You've brought the sparkle back to the rainbow See you next Taco Tuesday, babes. #MarixMagic #WeHoEats #MargsAndMoans #GayAndSlayed #BobbyDeservesARaise #MarixIsBackHunty

Yelp
The food has never been great, but at least you could've counted on margaritas. Sadly, on our visit in mid September the food was worse than before and and the margaritas weak. The whole experience seemed completely off compared to the fun we had over the years going there prior to the pandemic. To cap it off, we sat in the back room next to a couple of screaming middle-aged women. It was brutal all around. We won't be back.

Yelp
Back and better then ever! Yes, the 'Kick-ass' margaritas, sizziling fajitas and sizziling apple pie a al mode are great. All my favorites. I'll be back.

Winnie C.

Yelp
Not impressed, service was slow, food is not fresh, people were very rude, the employee named Mark might have woken up on the wrong side of bed that day and was super rude to my friend. I dont see why I would go back to that place. Spend your money elsewhere if I where you, LA has way better quality restaurant, you dont need this BS in life.

Nabil A.

Yelp
The food and waitstaff were great, Colton took care of all our needs. However, the music was too loud and not at a level of Background music, where people could easily converse. Hopefully on our next visit, the music level will be adjusted better for the clientele.

Jeffery J.

Yelp
Not a fan anymore loud, slow service, tables are very close, food quality was lacking and my favorite entree no longer on the menu.

Michael M.

Yelp
So happy it is back in action! I was here about a month ago and loved the outdoor atmosphere and chill vibes. Great food and margies are still happening!

Yelp
I somehow never knew about this place, despite living in West Hollywood for 15 years. I think it's a very pleasant, reasonably priced tex mex place for a chill dinner. Nothing is particularly notable, but the food is pretty good, the service was very nice, and I appreciated the reasonably priced drinks. I think a couple of improvements could really take this place to the next level: more upbeat music, more appropriate tex mex decor. But all in all, a pretty solid experience.

Yelp
I went to Marix last week. I had been there previously that week with a friend and ordered tacos but as lettuce wraps for diet reasons. When I went back the second time and placed the same order, the waiter came back to the table to inform me that although they would fullfill my order that night, if I ever came back to ask for the simple substitution of tortilla for lettuce, they would deny my request. I was a bit taken aback for a couple of reasons. First, it is merely a substitution of a tortilla for a piece of lettuce. I am not eating MORE food. Have I missed something and there's a shortage of lettuce on the market? I would be willing to pay a higher price if needed. Second, telling me in advance that I would be denied the next time seemed unnecessary and the tone was almost as though I had done something wrong by asking for a subsitution. I didn't appreciate the message or the tone so I said I would be happy to speak with someone about it. I was then informed that this was coming from the manager. I was also told that I could just order the taco meat on a plate. Imagine that visual of loose meat plopped in front of you. Hardly appetizing. Prior to the pandemic, there was never an issue with ordering the lettuce cup tacos. Never. Marix closed when other restaurants stayed open for take out and delivery during the pandemic. This is a restaurant that has had a very loyal customer base in the community. We've been there for them but they haven't always been there for us. Five years later, they reopen and as a community we have stuck by them and are showing up. If you have a customer who has been coming for years and remained loyal even during your five year hiatus, just make the accomodation. It's such a small issue but can really leave a bad taste in someone's mouth. I am going to take a break from going back there for a few months until they can work out the growing pains and kinks from reopening. My message to the management at Marix: go back to being what Marix used to be. Remove the tables from the bar area, be flexible with patrons if they want a substitution, be nice to the community... and season your meat. Sorry to say but it's bland.

Yelp
It's back as if it never went away. Looking forward to another visit once staff is trained a bit more and they work out the kinks!!

Yelp
Really want this restaurant to succeed and I am rooting for it! I'm glad it is back. Our collective memory has definitely overhyped the return of this restaurant, however. That said, my first trip back since the grand reopening was just okay. Like others have noted, they were out of several menu options, including the puffy tacos. As an alternative we ordered fried fish tacos, which were absolutely inedible and so we sent them back. The fish looked to be frozen fish sticks from the supermarket. We also ordered the combo chicken and steak fajitas, which were just okay. You could tell the steak wasn't great quality and was overcooked. I would recommend just the chicken fajitas instead. The chicken was tasty! Appreciated all the fajita accoutrement as well though I think rice and beans were extra, which is unusual. We sat outside and there were SO many flies. As soon as we sat down we realized we had made a grave error as we were absolutely swarmed by flies to the point where we couldn't do anything but swat flies away. They should put some fly traps in the bushes. The server was friendly and kind despite how busy it was, no knocks there. To be honest, next time I'm really hungry and want to eat, I'll probably go across the street to Zarape. The food there is better. I'll probably maintain Marix as more of a drinks and chips/guac location.

Yelp
First time here and I absolutely loved it! We only waited about 20 minutes, and it was worth every second. The drinks were amazing--especially the one with the spicy rim (so good!). The enchiladas were soft, flavorful, and the cheese was perfectly melty and stringy. My favorite though? The Blackened Chicken Tacos--absolute chef's kiss. On top of that, the dim lighting and music really set the vibe. Definitely a spot I'll be coming back to!

Yelp
I'm told this is the grand reopening, after Covid however I never was here before they shut down. What a pleasant fun surprise soo great ti have a great Mexican plan in the gayborhood, and it' is such an amazing gay vibe! Felt right at home and was awesome to feel surrounded by other queens. I highly recommend this spot, plus for now the prices are the same as 2019 as gift to the loyalty of their customers!!!! All around spectacular time! The Margaritas were tasty and the food was superb will be back !!!!

Yelp
Fun and good food! Great margaritas. We had a large party and they were kind enough to seat us in a proper amount of time. Definitely going back.

Yelp
Not a dog friendly place. Can't have a dog in the eating area even the open roof section. WeHo Bistro, Hugo's, Zarape, La Boheme, Gym Bar, Catch, Blue Birdy, State Street, and The Butcher, Baker and Capacchino Maker are a few of the places that allow dogs inside. Somehow Marix is the exception; because of the "health code".

Yelp
This was honestly depressing. Got there right at 5pm when they opened and was sat pretty quickly. Went to order their Casamigos Margarita that is on the menu and was told they are out of Casamigos. Asked for Tajin on the rim and was told they were out. Went to order their Puffy tacos and was told they were out of the tortillas...I'm sorry, there is a grocery store down right down the street, you can go pick up these things if you are out. You obviously are not planning inventory well. Margaritas were gross and just tasted like some watered down lime juice and tequila. The food was cold and had no flavor. Not coming back. Marix is the Walmart version of Zarape across the street. They need to go and shadow their team to see how things should be made.

Yelp
THEE Taco Tuesday spot! I came today since I heard they opened recently. I had the 3 Ahi Tacos with green rice & beans. The ahi was cooked rare which was perfect because it melted in your mouth with some of their hot sauce. The deal you are getting and the service was good too, Cody was a VERY helpful server. He suggested the Ahi tacos because it's Sushi grade fish. I'm extremely satisfied with my money.

Yelp
My experience here was AMAZING. For starters the staff was very welcoming & friendly especially Albee. The food was phenomenal, I had the Tapiqueña which is the Rib Eye steak was the juiciest steak I have had. My Girlfriend had the Combo Chicken & Beef Fajitas, they came out sizzling! Now the drinks! We had a pitcher of the Kickass Margarita and we KILLED it, it was super delicious. We had an overall amazing experience. The pricing? Between the both of us I have absolutely NOTHING to complain about, it was SO cheap ESPECIALLY compared to everything in WeHo. 10/10 will be back here again! Its my new go to spot!

Yelp
I know they just reopened! But........ we waited 1.5 hours for a table that then took over 1.5 hours to even get our food. It's not like they weren't in business before. Reopening should have been smooth. Horrible service. Things were delivered to our table that we didn't even order., I don't have this much time in a day to invest in this. Get your shit together, I work in this industry. Not okay. Will not be back!!

Yelp
They nailed the re-open. The service, margaritas and food were just as they were. And the same spirited, open air dining room. Well-done. We'll be back...and often.

Yelp
Welcome back Marix! It's been a pandemic. I want you to succeed. A few important notes: 1. Kick ass margarita isn't what it used to be. The balance is off. Too much sweet and sour or a new mix? The tequila is not shining through. Something is off. I know you can do better. 2. Fajitas: onions are not caramelized. Chicken is lacking flavor. Tortillas are tasting very generic -- think high school cafeteria. This is Los Angeles--I know you can get someone to make stellar tortillas! 3. Chips and salsa. Perfect. You've got this. 4. Service: top notch. Waiter was present. Attentive. Thanks Emir! 5. Ambiance and music. Perfect 6. Valet parking: way overpriced. Come on. I'm going out for Mexican. Not parking at the four seasons Beverly Hills. Please work on making things better. Happy to discuss any of the above. Quality and consistency is the key to long term success. Nostalgia will bring people back once.

Yelp
A West Hollywood cultural institution has resurrected, and what a win for the city! Visited yesterday with old friends, and it was as if we'd never said goodbye ;). The atmosphere can't be beat, the margaritas flow freely and the service is top notch. Thank you, Marix, for coming back- here's to a bright future!

Yelp
I'm reluctant to give a place five stars - I mean it really has to be extraordinary and I have to go back to see that it wasn't a fluke. However, as they just reopened this week, I was very impressed by our experience last night. Everything went off without a hitch. We waited for about half an hour at the bar with a pitcher of margaritas which is kind of what you want at a place like Marix. (IYKYK) The staff was friendly and the food was delicious. In fact, as others have mentioned, it really does feel as if they never said goodbye. The place has been spruced up including some murals but the open roof is still there. I think that the return of Marix is important to the community. I know of so many folks for whom this was their regular Friday night or Sunday afternoon hangout. Here's to wishing them much success!

Yelp
Good to be back again. They should change their hours on Saturday and Sunday, and open earlier, like 12 noon. Everything else is very nice, but get rid of those tables up by the bar and bring back the highchairs and chips and salsa for those who just want to have a drink by the bar and nosh.

Yelp
After years being closed, Marix's has come roaring back. I can't recommend this place enough. Food was great! Don't miss the corn-on-the cob side dish. And at least for now, they have kept the prices at the 2019 level. Service was amazing. Wait staff made sure we were taken care of. We had to wait about 45 minutes, but so worth it. The restaurant has maintained its rustic beauty.

Yelp
While I loved this place for many years and appreciate the changes, I can't understand why those tables are now up in what used to be the bar area. In my humble opinion, that area to hang out and catch up was what made Marix special. Back in the day, they even cleared out the back area on weekends to make additional room for people to congregate. Those tables sabotage what made the place special. I hope they go back to the original set up. I've heard this same criticism from everyone I spoke with. On the upside, our waiter was attentive and terrific.

Yelp
Love love love!!! Had such a great time, the food was tasty, the drinks amazing and they were so accommodating to our growing group. Bobby is THE BEST most charming and fantastic waiter. We will be back!!!
