"Long-running Berkeley grocery store Market Hall Foods announced Tuesday that it plans to close its doors permanently on Sunday, May 26, East Bay Nosh reports. The store held down a corner location on Fourth Street for more than two decades, opening in 1996 and selling deli food, cheese, pasta, and other pantry goods. Meanwhile, the store’s Rockridge location at 5655 College Avenue will remain open." - Dianne de Guzman

Nice little deli in Berkeley. I had the turkey club w chips/soda. It was light, filling and delicious. The small market is a bit expensive, but food is very good.

Small gourmet market that sells some cheese, wood fire pizza, European sweets, and some prepared food like soup, salads, sandwiches. It wasn’t a great variety and the staff was too busy talking with one another to help customers. None of the staff wore masks nor gloves while handling food. My cheese was sliced by a man who used his hands to handle it which was not very sanitary. Heck even at Safeway the deli department wears gloves. The cheese selection was small and limited. The salad was meh. The treats were however, amazing with a good variety. Particularly enjoyed the dark chocolate. The pizza looked good but I didn’t get any.

My friends just went there and asked me if I wanted anything so I checked out their website and asked for their three cheese grilled cheese. They apparently dont have a menu in restaurant? They gave us 3 grilled cheese sandwiches lol The sandwiches are INCREDIBLY greasy. They had to wrap it in two layers of plastic coated wax paper. And it's still soaked through one. Tasted pretty good, but they need to lighten up on the grease. It's dripping with it.

Got 2 frozen meals. Both VERY expensive ($15 ea for 1-2 servings) neither were any good and clearly made in a rush. One was chicken enchiladas, and the other was meat lasagna. I've shopped here for years, and it has gone downhill. I will not be coming back.

This place is lovely. There are quite a few choices for a snack or a quick bite. I love the outdoor garden (right outside of the imperial tea house), it is just so beautiful. I didn't eat here but went for a walk.

Closing this weekend :( Will miss browsing the aisles, picking up pasta and a fancy soda.

We had everything from pastries to sandwiches, and it was all excellent. I had a chocolate croissant and my daughter had an apple pastry. We also ordered a falafel sandwich and a chicken sandwich. All great.

Today, Oct 18, 2023, at 1:00 pm I found a fly in their soup. One employee said “ it must have been from the refrigerator’.” They refunded my money. My wife however had finished hers. And the employee behind (wearing cap and apron today) the bread place was very rude. She said to me: “you have for your turn,” well I didn’t know there was line- just did not how to communicate. I felt insulted. The rest of the employees were nice. We go there quite often but we will try others now
