London’s Best Old-School Fish & Chip Shops - London - The Infatuation

"Everyone is greeted with a “darlin’” at Marlow Fish Bar, whether it’s your first visit or you’re the kind of person who asks if the owner’s car has been fixed yet. The same family has been running this retro-looking Anerley chippy since 1962, with nods to their Cypriot heritage in the form of an evil eye fish pendant and staunchly south east London roots in the form of a CPFC shrine. There’s a familial rhythm to Friday evenings at the fish and chip shop: orders recited and relayed to the father-son duo, a soft sizzle as everything is fried to order, and a chorus of “salt and vinegar?”. Go for the cod, which has a pleasing crunch and flaky fish, and don’t skip a pot of thick, savoury curry sauce." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, sinead cranna, rianne shlebak, daisy meager

Marlow Fish Bar - Review - Anerley - London - The Infatuation

Go for the cod, which has a pleasing crunch and flaky fish, and don’t skip a pot of thick, savoury curry sauce. A buttered roll on the side is a must, too. Food Rundown Cod Fillet You can’t ask for much more than flaky fish and crunchy, golden batter. This ticks both those boxes, and the fact it’s fried in beef dripping (more unusual in London nowadays) adds a nice extra dimension to the flavour. photo credit: Daisy Meager Large Chips Ask for a good shake of salt and dousing of vinegar on these decent chips." - Daisy Meager

First time trying Marlowe’s and what a great experience. Proper, family run fish and chip shop. Fresh fish, delivered daily and really nicely cooked. You can pre order other types of fish but we had two haddock and a large chips (excellent) to share which was a perfect Friday night supper. Thanks a lot! We’ll be back 👍

Always got told this was the best place to go! Cooked in dripping 👌 by far the best chip shop around

Absolutely love this place. Been going since I was a child as well has my family. Great family run chippy. Can’t describe how great this place is.

Really enjoyed our food. Will definitely be going back. Genuine, frinedly staff. The place has a nostalgic charm and great fish and chips.

Cash only and very expensive. Chips were lukewarm and curry sauce was congealed and lumpy. The cod was freshly cooked as advertised, but was soggy and contained more skin than actual fish. Overall a big disappointment.

We have passed this fish bar quite a few times while we have been taking the dog for a walk and decided to give it a try the other day. To say they have been in business since the 60's, It was a little underwhelming. The chips were soggy, the fish was a bit watery and tasteless as it had been frozen. The batter on the fish was quite soggy too after being wrapped. Curry sauce was nice and tasty - standard chip shop curry, and the battered sausage was adaquate. All in all I wouldn't rave about it but if you need a fill on a Saturday dinner time then give them a go. Spending £40 for three of us was a little on the expensive side for the quality

I have only ever had a great experience at this amazing local delicacy, but we were very disappointed this week - the portions are notably smaller and the usually wonderfully crispy batter was limp, wet and tasteless. The chips were also soggy, when they’re usually the best fish shop chips I’d ever eaten! If they’ve changed their recipe or bought cheaper ingredients to make it, PLEASE revert back to whatever you were doing before. It was delicious. N.B. I by no means mean this to be a negative review, I am just worried to be losing such a great food option in the local area.
