Marrable's Hotel, Clerkenwell, London - Explore & Book

"If this was your first visit to Clerkenwell, you’d struggle to believe that the area used to be pretty gritty, best known for Smithfields meat market and centre of the printing industry. But just as New York’s Meatpacking District became hip, Smithfields still stands proud and everything around it has regenerated. Marrable's, which opened in 2004 as 'The Zetter', was one of the city’s original boutique hotels, and a brave punt for owners Mark Sainsbury and Michael Benyan at the time. But their hotel rapidly became one of the focal points of the newly cool neighbourhood, which now brims with bistros and boutiques, stylish gastro-pubs and hipster cafés. Inside, décor is trendy but the ambiance is friendly, so it’s popular with foreigners including families, though best suited to couples. Rooms, some huge, some small, have a distinct boutique style: hot pink or lime detail against white linens and white walls, quirky Rob Ryan artwork, and lots of little luxuries. Choose from a selection of quintessential French dishes at the bistro restaurant on the ground floor, or stroll across St John's Square for cocktails bars and everything from Belgian cuisine to sushi. Highs A pleasingly informal atmosphere, thanks to friendly but excellent staff A popular French restaurant downstairs serving the 'Full French' for breakfast Its location: you’re an easy walk from St Paul’s, a bus ride from Hoxton and Brick Lane, and a short walk from the Tube The Rooftop rooms have amazing views over the London skyline from their balconies Free tea, coffee and water 24/7 from a communal drinks station on each floor Lows Some of the cheaper rooms are small and a bit dark. Fine for a sightseeing base, but if you’re here to relax, you’d want to upgrade Breakfast costs extra Bathrooms are bijou No car park, but it's easier not to drive in London We haven't tried the restaurant since its 2024 revival as French brasserie Gazette, but we expect good things!" - Liz Simpson

Marrable’s Hotel (London, UK) 50 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Clerkenwell, neighboring on decadent Soho, the buttoned-up City and the hipster playground of Shoreditch, is ground zero for London’s design and creative communities, chock full of imaging labs, ad agencies, and design firms. Many of our customers will have business in and around Clerkenwell, and now they have a convenient place to stay as well. Not that there’s a shortage of hip new hotels in London—this is still the most competitive hotel market in the world—but there’s always room for another good one, especially in this once boutique-shy neighborhood." - Tablet Hotels

I've stayed at this hotel several times on work trips. It's my favourite London hotel. The rooms are a decent size and have a proper desk to work on. Spotlessly clean. Comfortable beds. As much decent coffee as you want from a machine on each floor and a wonderful breakfast. I've also had a really good meal from room service.

Perfect location to walk to the main attractions, place is clean, in a nice area. You will find good restaurants near, some may need reservations, even on a Monday like St John. They had a hot beverage machine and ice maker in our floor, maybe on each floor. The breakfast was not included in our fare, but you can find cheaper choices around than the 28 Pounds per person they wanted to charged. Overall a great experience.

Really lovely hotel and extremely friendly staff. I only gave 3 star for service though as I went to the restaurant around 9pm Sunday. It wasn't particularly busy but they were obviously understaffed. I overheard a couple explaining they were leaving because they'd been sat there 20 minutes and had no service. I gave it a good few minutes more and then left to get food elsewhere myself.

Booked here months before we travelled. Last minute we were 'upgraded' to the Zetter and given a suite, (the zetter is behind the marrable hotel) as it was our anniversary! Nice touch, we thought. On arrival, the promised bottle of wine for our occasion never appeared. The 'suite' was a tiny room, wardrobe in the bathroom. We were not offered the upgrade, we were told it had been done and our original room had been cancelled. All in, really poor and would never return here.

Hotel has an issue with a data breach & data privacy. After making my reservation via Booking.com I have been the target of multiple sophisticated scams that included details I had used in making the reservation. This has happened not one but now twice . It has resulted in needing to have my credit cards canceled.

I would've given more stars if I wouldn't have gotten up to someone trying to enter my room in the morning. She said that she's been instructed by the reception that my lock isn't working. And well, I had no such issues. No one rang before hand or anything the woman was just trying to get in before I opened the door. Other than that I liked the street view room club double room. The location is great near the Farringdon Station, London City Airport. Lots of restaurants, cafes around. Room service is pretty fast as well.

Room was absolutely horrible. I booked this for my parents and am beyond pissed off. They shut all the water off at night so you can't flush toilets or anything and the AC was barely working the entire time even after constantly raising this issue with the staff. They had been shutting air off them through the night as well once it started apparently working. The shower also barely had any water pressure. For a 4 star hotel rating this is not what you expect.

This is a great find if Clerkenwell is a good location for you. Room 503 on the top floor has a big terrace with comfortable seating for at least 4 or 5, and great views towards the city, and down to The Shard. Good French restaurant on site.
