When I dine out, I expect basic hygiene standards--like washing hands after handling dirty dishes--especially before touching fresh food or clean plates.
Unfortunately, that wasn't the case during my visit to Marrakesh Express. I witnessed staff moving from dirty dishes to food prep without washing their hands. Even when gloves were worn, they were put on with dirty hands, completely defeating the purpose.
We waited nearly 55 minutes for our meals, which we later learned was partly due to being severely understaffed. Instead of offering a professional explanation, the manager joked about it, mock-scolding two staff members for "getting pregnant at the same time." I found her remarks about her employees both inappropriate and disrespectful.
To make matters worse, the chef's family were treated as VIPs for the night. They received oversized portions and were served ahead of everyone else, while the rest of us waited. Although apologies were made, the favoritism was obvious.
When my meal finally arrived, I immediately noticed a long hair--clearly the chef's--laid across my main dish. I pointed it out. The plate was whisked away with an apology, but by then I had lost my appetite. I asked for a refund and left.
Overall, it was a deeply unsettling dining experience. I cannot recommend Marrakesh Express due to serious issues with cleanliness and professionalism.
There was also a separate incident involving political commentary, which I won't detail here. Simply put, politics should never be part of a restaurant experience.
