Closed Boston-Area Restaurants to Know in January 2025 | Eater Boston

"A Southern French restaurant in the South End, owned by the same team behind Petit Robert Bistro in the South End and Batifol in Kendall Square as well as several PRB Boulangerie cafes, has closed after 18 months; no reason was given for the closure. Owner Loic Le Garrec also closed the PRB Boulangerie location in Somerville this month to make way for Cafe Saint-Germain, an all-day cafe and bar with later hours." - Erika Adams

Southern French Restaurant Marseille in the South End Calls It Quits | Eater Boston

"An 18-month-old French restaurant at 560 Harrison Avenue in the South End has permanently closed; the restaurant posted a message on Instagram alerting diners that it would be shutting down the social media account (which is now gone), and its OpenTable page now reads that it has permanently closed as of Monday, January 13. No specific reason was given for the shutter. Owned by French restaurateur Loic Le Garrec, it was his ode to sunny Southern French cuisine in various forms, including grilled octopus, a rich seafood stew, trout almondine, and more. Le Garrec did not immediately respond to questions about the restaurant’s closure." - Erika Adams

Boston Restaurant Openings April 2023 | Eater Boston

"From the group behind Petit Robert Bistro and Batifol, this 160-seat South End concept is a true southern French restaurant where seafood plays a starring role—raw oysters, crudo, seafood towers, octopus, escargot, and braised squid—and owner Loic Le Garrec says he has wanted to open this Marseille concept for roughly ten years; an adjacent all-day cafe, PRB Bouloungerie, is still forthcoming." - Erika Adams

11 Great French Restaurants in Boston

"Gaslight’s menu is vast and full of the French greatest hits, but the restaurant does fish best. Get the special, whatever it is, or get the pan-roasted cod. Gaslight is currently open for indoor dining, outdoor dining, takeout and delivery through DoorDash, and delivery through Grubhub." - Terrence Doyle

This wasn't our 1st choice for brunch, however we were unable to get a seat at our 1st choice an associated restaurant. We were directed to Marseille and what a pleasant surprise, the food was amazing, hands down the best French onion soup I've ever had! The vegetarian eggs Benedict was so delicious. The service was excellent as well. We didn't get the buffet but by the looks of it they had a wide selection for the price.

Laid-back bistro that specializes in Southern French cuisine. Recently came across their 1-year anniversary menu and decided to try it out for Sunday dinner. Although I love French restaurants, the restaurant’s low ratings have always stopped me from giving them a try. It appeared that most of their bad reputation was related to service issues. However, everything seemed fine during our visit for an early Sunday dinner. As the name suggests, Chef Fathman draws inspiration from Marseille, a Southern port city that serves as a culinary crossroads of several Mediterranean countries. Consequently, the menu at this restaurant offers a somewhat unique twist, as it distinguishes from the typical French bistro fare found at PRB’s two other restaurants. In addition to trying the anniversary menu, we chose two of our staple starters at French restaurants: Liver Mousse and Beef Tartare. The tartare was solid, but the mousse didn't hit the mark. It was thicker than I usually prefer, and the accompanying crostini was overly seasoned, which overwhelmed the mousse rather than complementing it. Fortunately, the other two appetizers from the course menu were excellent. Both were fried yet lightly seasoned, allowing the flavors to shine through. They came with Espelette Aioli, which added a briny and subtly spicy kick that really enhanced the overall taste of the dishes. For our entrées, we chose the Trout Almandine and the Poulet Rotisserie. Although neither dish was particularly outstanding, the chicken was enjoyable as it was very juicy and tender. The trout, on the other hand, was slightly overcooked, but this was somewhat mitigated by a generous coating of melted brown butter that added a richer flavor. The finale of our meal were a Marseille Profiterole and Vanilla Bean Crème Brulée. As expected from a restaurant group that also owns PRB Boulangerie, both desserts were exceptional. The Crème Brulée was creamy with an exquisitely light consistency that melted delightfully on the palate, and the Profiterole was also excellent. Overall, Marseille provided a better experience than we initially anticipated. While it might not serve the best French/Mediterranean food in the city, it still offers a pleasant and relaxing dining atmosphere. Given that the anniversary deal is only available until the end of this month, I recommend visiting soon to take advantage of this offer.

This place is a quaint restaurant that has excellent food and nice dinner vibes. The staff were friendly, although sometimes they got very busy with other things and we had long periods of not being checked up on but that's okay. The food was absolutely delicious! Their drinks are well made and tasty. The roasted chicken and the steak were amazing here. Very good. The only hiccup is the berry clafouti had a metallic taste/ maybe had bad oil used to season the pan... was an amazing meal otherwise though. Definitely a nice place to have a tasty meal with your date.

Eat for your own risk💀💀💀 Gross and disappointing food Table was dirty when we sit down. Our waiter bought our drink 20 minutes after we ordered it, what a surprise, when we were the only table in the restaurant. Food sucks here, everything either raw or overcooked. The bread harder than STONE the steak, which I asked medium, is like well done, and my friend octopus is all burnt outside. I never leave tip less than 20%, if the food and services are good, I tip decent. If not, I will do my best not to show up at your restaurant

Delicious Brunch! Quiche special with leeks and mushrooms was savory with perfect texture and just the right crunch for the crust. Shakshouka with lamb sausage had a zesty tomato and lamb flavor. Dishes were sumptuous and filling. Staff was attentive and helpful. The decor maintains the welcoming atmosphere of a French brasserie.

I really enjoy this establishment any time of day. They do a great French inspired brunch (eggs Benny on croissants etc). Their menu is elevated and I find it to be more bang for your buck when compared to similar establishments (sorry mistral :-/). They also have one of the top 3 espresso martinis in Boston. All of the bartenders are excellent but Angelica is my favorite! Always smiling :) Oh and the pate de Saumon en croute is out of this world. It is essentially a salmon Wellington served on a bed of lobster butter. Phenomenal (see photo)

My husband and I go to Marseille quite often and the restaurant is usually quiet. It's surprising because it's one of our favorite places in Boston. The place looks amazing inside and they play French music which really sets the mood. They serve some really good French food. I can't get enough of the onion soup - it's just perfect. Every time we're there, it's a wonderful experience. The staff are super friendly and it's nice and serene. The music, the look of the place, and the awesome dishes all make it special. We're always wondering why it's not packed with people! We absolutely love it and think everyone should check it out.

Wow! What a disappointing Thanksgiving meal! We preordered takeout and we were more than willing to pay a premium for someone else to cook for us. For $35 per person we were super underwhelmed with both the portions but more importantly the quality of the food. The good…turkey (the small amount we got) was flavorful as was the gravy (but I had to season it) cranberry sauce and sweet potatoes. The bad…portions were super small and the haricot verts had zero seasoning (and were way undercooked) and the mashed potatoes and gravy were extremely dry and tasteless. The potatoes seemed like they had been boiled and then mashed without anything (butter, salt, milk) in them. I’m wishing we had cooked. I have not actually eaten at Marseille before but based on this experience I don’t plan to.
