The Best Lunch Spots In Mexico City 2024

"This buzzy spot on a quiet corner in Roma is consistently packed with tables of artists and off-duty chefs hanging out over hearty plates of steak frites, chicken pot pie, and gnocchi that’s swimming in a bowl of ricotta and parmesan sauce. Join them for lunch, and after your meal, grab some coffee from Tormenta, the street stand right outside, before doing a lap around Plaza Río de Janeiro a few blocks away." - guillaume guevara

Martínez

"Chef/owner Lucho Martinez was inspired to open this eponymous restaurant by his daughter, Emilia, who once shared that her favorite thing to do in Paris was eat in the bistros with him. It sparked an idea—why not recreate that feeling right here in Mexico City—and Martinez is just that: a small restaurant with good food and wine. The ambience is young and bustling. Order at the bar and you'll get a sneak peek into the kitchen. The concise menu features a list of tasty dishes with nods to Mexican, French and even Japanese cuisine. Pollo a la parrilla is a main course hit, while chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream is spot on." - Michelin Inspector

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Our second time in Mexico City, and Martínez remains an absolute standout—one of those rare restaurants that reminds you why dining can feel like art. The food is the hero here: thoughtful, balanced, and deeply satisfying. Each dish arrives as a quiet revelation—beautifully composed, full of flavor, and layered with intention. The service was impeccable—gracious without pretense, warm without intrusion. Every moment felt considered. We found ourselves ordering far beyond reason, simply because everything was that superb. It’s a place that lingers with you—the kind of experience that makes you pause mid-bite, exchange a knowing glance, and smile. We’ll be back, without question, and will recommend it to anyone seeking a meal that captures the very spirit of Mexico City’s culinary excellence.

Martínez Just got engaged and it had a Michelin Guide sign outside the location! Figured it would be a nice treat. The design of the restaurant was cold and the atmosphere was quite bland. Restaurant is open to outdoors as most restaurants are in Mexico but you don’t expect to get eaten alive by mosquitoes while trying to enjoy it… The service felt overly attentive like they were trying to be something they weren’t. The server didn’t make any genuine connection or add any personality to the service. As the prices are quite high at this restaurant I intend to give my opinion on every detail. Wine selection was quite enjoyable! The food was a little lacklustre… Pan de masa madre, mantequilla verde 8/10 The sourdough was dense and butter was quite herbaceous which I actually really enjoyed the freshness of it! Tartar de pescado, limón amarillo, aceite de oliva 8.9/10 This was mine and my fiancés favourite dish of the night! The fish was butter and fresh and was served with perfect amount of bread! Poro a las brasas, dátil, avellana, burrata 7.2/10 Personally nothing against the dish other than my own personal taste. There was some sort of apple sauce/pure on the dish that was quite sour to offset the sweetness of the dates I assume but for me it put me off the whole dish. Leeks were fantastic though, perfectly cooked. Papas Duchesse, espárragos, salsa de hongos 8.1/10 Prettiest dish of the night! Amazing plating very visually pleasing, the asparagus alone in the mushroom foam I could have eaten all night. The potato in this dish did have a weird grainy/flaky texture though that I wasn’t a fan of. Gnocchi de requesón, parmesano, suero de leche 8/10 The sauce was the star of the dish! Gnocchi had the textural consistency of cheese curds, which was slightly off putting and was quite heavy. NY steak & frites, béarnaise 2/10 Really disappointing… the steaks cook was a perfect medium rare hence the 2 score but it lacked seasoning, it was quite tough and chewy, the presentation wasn’t it. the jus was mediocre with no personality. My fiancé liked the frites but I couldn’t even finish one. And there was a hair in our steak to top it off so not a great finish. Overall wouldn’t eat there again cost was $3000. After tip ($255) Canadian

Started with the grill oysters and then fresh (whim), also we had the raw fish tarta (which I loved)! Then we tride the log and the duck. Both dishes were also delicious. The service is great and we ended with a great chocolate tarta!

Overall I think this place is over hyped. Service was amazing! They cleared our plates for every plate we got to start fresh and gave us a little dessert thing at the end for our anniversary which was very thoughtful. The food though over hyped. The leek with burrata was flavorless and the hazelnuts were had no place. The gnocchi sauce was trying to be cool with them doing a foamy sauce but then it melted and it was watery and the gnocchi didn't hold the sauce. The flatbread was good but tasted like a lox bagel. The steak was well cooked and great crust but like it was just a steak. The desert bite was got was the best thing we had.

We had an INCREDIBLE dinner at Martinez. The service and staff were wonderful. They don’t miss any detail and it truly enhances the experience. My husband and I both have dietary restrictions and they took it very seriously and made modifications to dishes that allowed the other guests with us to be able to still enjoy the dish in its original form while allowing us to also enjoy it. The mussels and chicken breast were the most memorable dishes for me. The IYKYK off-menu fries were also a highlight. The restaurant is small and cozy but each table has space to be comfortable. The atmosphere was well designed and had a calming feeling. The details like incense in the restroom were a nice extra touch that also delighted me.

Perfect ambiance for a group of friends or a date. Great playlist. Food: 12/10, ordered ceviche, tartare, salad, and the best chicken you’ll ever have plus cheesecake that’s to die for. Legit, all of the food is amazing - can’t go wrong. Wines were phenomenal. The menu is on the small side for both food and wine - and justified. It’s all SO good. Only thing I didn’t like was the dirty martini - for some reason it tasted minty. As always, the company makes the meal so bring someone along who’s up for a great meal.

Outstanding! This will be my go to restaurant when in Mexico City. All dishes are not to be missed. The chef and her team are very passionate about presentation, taste and a very clean kitchen. The front of house of staff are equally devoted to giving you a great dining experience.

Tucked along a bustling street, the restaurant exuded an elegant, contemporary vibe. As my evening unfolded, it became clear that while the kitchen delivered some moments the overall experience leaned closer to good than great. The bread with butter was standard for a restaurant of this caliber. The celery soup was a pleasant start, the silky puree with croutons added a subtle bite. The asparagus atop a bed of potatoes was the kind of dish that vegetarians nod approvingly at, but seldom praise. The green goddess salad offered a generous portion of leafy greens punctuated by the crunch of caramelized pecans. The gnocchi with parmesan came cloaked in an airy foam. However, the portion size felt disproportionate, with an abundance of foam overshadowing the delicate gnocchi. Delicious? Yes. Balanced? Not quite. The grilled chicken breast was generously portioned, tender, and juicy. The accompanying jus was a warm, savory embrace, but nothing particularly special. The sweets were exceptional. The dulce de leche ice cream paired with pistachio crumble and banana was creamy, nutty, and unique, while the chocolate and caramel cake was fudgy yet light, sweet but never cloying. Together, the two desserts ended the meal on a high note. The restaurant was packed and I was forced to sit outside. It made me feel a bit disconnected from the ambiance. The service felt somewhat perfunctory, more reactive than proactive. Inside might promise a more seamless experience as the outdoor setup on a busy street detracted from the evening. Stylish yet uneven, Martinez leaves you wanting more reliability in its execution.
