Martin’s: Wine, Liquor, Beer & Deli - New Orleans

So happy to discover this gem in New Orleans. An exceptional, well priced wine selection, and delicious salads, sandwiches, and cheeses to eat there or take out. Everything was super fresh and delicious. The biggest problem was trying to choose from all of the great selections!

Delicious food that my whole family loves. Very friendly staff with excellent advice on liquor purchases. Sean & Steve in Metairie are always helpful with excellent recommendations! Martins is the best!

Pretty good selection of wine and spirits. Beer selection is OK very large deli and lots of seating but be aware of the lunchtime crowd as the freshly made sandwiches and others can take a bit of time.

Love this place! We have been coming here for lunch for years and everything is delicious. They have a fantastic selection of wine, beer and spirits. We used their catering for our wedding reception and it was a fantastic hit. We will continue to come back for many years to come!

Pretty sweet selection of all sorts of spirits from around the world in uptown! The staff is very knowledgeable and responsive. I was very happy that they had Laird's Apple Brandy and pointed me to a high proof rum that's also good for healing and medicinal concoctions. It was pouring outside so I decided to stay for lunch. The sandwich was stuffed and delicious, as was the tall glass of lemonade.

Great wine selection and a knowledgeable staff - what more do you need in a wine shop?

I was looking for a specific kind of local spirit, and Martin's popped up in my search list. Even though I have driven within blocks of this location I don't know how many hundreds of times, I've never realized where it was in relation to my daily life. It was great to stop in to find what I was looking for (and then some!) There's a little cafe in the back corner of the store that looks pretty legit, but hasn't been on my radar on a day I was hungry, so I'll hold off on that. It's a fairly big store (not in comparison to Total Wine, but absolutely when compared to most other primarily alcohol-based stores in the area). I did have to wander the spirits aisle several times to find what I was looking for as it wasn't as intuitive as I would've liked, and there wasn't a lot of help on the floor (although there was one person on the floor helping someone else), but I found what I needed and was able to get on my way for a relatively decent price. If wine is your thing, this seems to be far more their jam, but as for me and my house, we are happily spirited from Martin's.

Wine selection that cannot be outdone... Sommeliers always eager to recommend a delicious bottle or a particularly special find... a sandwich, soup and salad deli that over decades is as consistent as it is delicious. The imported cured meats are staples in any French, German, Spanish or Italian kitchen... not to mention the dry delicacies - where else can you find turrón and torta de aceite in Louisiana? The Metairie and Uptown locations are both solid, however I'm partial to the ambiance of the uptown location - more open and relaxed. I hear there is also one in mandeville - will try! Attentive, helpful service and an exceptionally-well-run business.

Martin Wine sellers cafe in the back is one of my dependable weekday lunch spots.. When other places may have lines I can always goto Martin Wine Seller and order a salad and or share one of their fabulous sandwiches. This is also the place I recommend going if you need a good meal in a quiet environment without all the distractions in many places. Also as an added bonus I get to look over their wine selection if I am in the need to restock my home supplies.

Not only does this place have an extensive liquor selection it has gift bags, gift sets, snacky bites AND a full deli that offers cold and hot sandwiches, salads, pastas, you name it! We tried the burger and the executive club. Both delicious. Fries were so flavorful too. The chicken salad looks incredible as well as their veggie pasta. You can check out many options through the glass deli counter. Check out the catering menu while you're there I definitely plan to use them for future events/gamedays. Can't rave about this place enough.

Martin Wine Cellar is a lunch tradition for our family during parade season, but I always forget to write a review while it's fresh in mind...until this year. The Californian is good but I expected more. It comes with your choice of wheat or pita, and it's hard to find good pita in stores around here so I was really excited about the pita. Unfortunately, there was no pocket to the pita when I got it, just a sandwich on two pieces of really thin carbs. The turkey was generous and moist, but the flavor a little bland--more like roast chicken. The veggies were all fresh and crisp--or meaty in the case of the tomato--but the sprouts were spare at best...almost homeopathic to be honest. I could have let that slide if it weren't for the cheese. Havarti is not a typical choice for a turkey and avocado sandwich, and I think it would have been amazing if there had been more sprouts. In fairness, I might have felt differently if this had all been on a good wheat bread...but it wasn't. The Cuban was a completely different story. This is so good that it has become a staple for us--other items will vary, but our order always includes a Cuban. The bread is perfect for pressing but doesn't lose its body in the heat and pressure. I've had enough good Cubans that I don't get picky about the specific meats, pickle, or mustard...or even whether there IS or ISN'T mayo. I judge a Cuban on the totality/blend of meat, pickle, and mustard/mayo, and this one hits the sweet spot of sweet, savory, and zing. No disappointment at all. My toddler insisted on a slice of Lemon D'auberge for brunch, and I wasn't going to deny him in Mardi Gras season. It was light, smooth, lemony, and sweet without any zing. It wasn't my favorite but I thought it was good, my French wife complained that it was too sweet and not enough lemon for a lemon cake, and our toddler wouldn't leave the table until he'd eaten every last crumb, so there you go. We'll be back next year, or sooner, and I'll try to be good about posting a review again. Til then, I'll pass on a bit of wisdom that was given to me by a 3rd Grader later the same day: "Don't put anything that smells like Mardi Gras in your mouth."

I've been coming to Martin Wine Cellar (Wine & Spirits) since the 1990s. I was very happy when they finally rebuilt after Hurricane Katrina. I didn't think it could be better, but with the expanded deli, there's so much more to do in the store. Today, I went to get a hamburger because this is one of my favorite places in the city to get one. The meat is high quality and, if you get it dressed, the lettuce and tomato are equally as fresh. There was a special today so that the patty was actually brisket and perhaps a ground meat mixture. It was excellent! I also had a glass of sangria and was blown away with how good and refreshing it was. The reason for my review (finally) is to commend David Martin! There was a small mishap with my order and I asked to speak to someone and he came to me, asked me how he could help and offered to do so. I really enjoyed speaking with him as he listened, didn't offer excuses, and asked me what he could do to correct the situation. The situation was corrected, I sat down at a window table and enjoyed my lunch. Afterwards, I purchased two bottles of Chardonnay and I was very impressed with the young lady at the cash register. I had such a pleasant encounter with both David and the cashier at the front of the store that I knew I had to write about this. I'm sure I would've kept coming here (the burger is amazing), but it's really nice to know this family owned business truly cares about their customers! Keep up the great work!

Sandwiches are really good. I want to go back and try other stuff. I didn't like the employees on the liquor/wine side of this place. Not friendly at all.

One of my coworkers would bring me a Caprese, and I LOVED it. I finally came in for lunch. This place is fabulous! They have a great wine selection, but my lunch companions and I only ate sandwiches and salads. Well, I did have a sangria, which was sweet, fruity, and very refreshing. My Caprese sandwich was great as usual, but the veggie pasta salad was ok. As we were dining, I noticed that there were tables of people sharing bottles of wine. I'm definitely coming back for a girl's social hour.

Great place for all of your wine and spirits needs! Examples of the great service I've seen - * The store employees are super knowledgeable, especially compared to other shops in the area, and give really good recommendations. * Bottles are to be fairly priced as well, at retail or fairly above their cost of goods. * I've asked for specific items they don't currently have in stock, and if possible they've offered to track them down for me. I'll be coming back for all of my bourbon shopping in New Orleans. Loved both the Baronne and Elmeer locations!

Hands down the best egg salad ever! Everything else is on-point however! Obviously, being in a wine and spirits store, there is no shortage of beverages to accompany your meal.

I am a frequent customer of Martin's Wine and other items, but I will not be ordering food there again. If you are trying to go for lunch, go elsewhere. Today I ordered a Shrimp Po-Boy Special for lunch, did some shopping and waited patiently for my order. It took 35 minutes for one sandwich. I had to remind them about my order, then it was rushed after waiting that long I received a poorly made Po-boy with half breaded shrimp and a ruined lunch experience.

In the post-Covid 19 world, Martin's is the place to be! The most delicious chicken salad on sourdough on the planet now at tables spaced what look to be more than 6 feet apart, and all the wonderful deli fixings, cheese, meats and booze to go, to have your own little party or brunch at home! And, so many delectable dessert options, too. A must stop on your list if takeout or dine-in places! #yelplove Such a great place to pop in for some nice wines or specialty beers and liquor. Everyone here is extremely knowledgeable and helpful and can help you find whatever you're looking for. They carry Ridge wines, which can be difficult to find. On my most recent visit, they had Augustiner beer, which I didn't think you could get anywhere at all. The lunch and brunch options are always delicious- I'm a big fan of the bagels, which are Davidovich out of NYC. There's something for everyone here, no matter what you're craving. Also I didn't realize until my most recent visit that they can make a custom basket for you and put shrink wrap on

Pandemic update: Martin's is doing a great job. All staff is wearing masks. Outside there are clear signs that say clean baskets and used baskets for your grocery carts. They are doing in side pickup and delivery (not sure if that's just food or what). There is a big table at the front door with orders pulled for pickup. The shelves are fully stocked with all the booze. They had a good cheese selection and they have limited catering items from the kitchen in the back. All the tables in the kitchen area are pushed together and all the chairs are stored away. So if you're drinking your way through this insanity. Martin's has you covered.

I picked up a catering order this morning and am blown away by how friendly and helpful everyone was. My order was ready when I arrived and one of their stellar employees brought it out to my car. All items (finger sandwiches, spinach and artichoke dip, hummus) were delicious!

For one of the greatest wine selections in town, this is the spot. Not only is their wine selection expansive, they carry some of the more interesting labels and finds. Their cured meats and cheese selection is also expansive and high quality. Their prepared food options offer a delicious range of hot and cold sandwiches from pastrami to roast beef and cold cuts. It's packed with flavor! It's really nice to have a well rounded one stop shop that offers a high quality selection, especially for a picnic in the park. Even to the extent of making their own homemade crackers to pair with cheeses, it's these little details that I love when visiting a business.

Martin's is a great spot for anything you need, local craft beer, liquor, great wine and more. You can always find great deals on wine with some of the best prices around. On my most recent visit, Michael at the Uptown location was very helpful on helping pick out the perfect bottle!

Don't go here for lunch if you don't want to walk in to a war zone. The person taking your order is the first lieutenant and the woman yelling out orders ready for pick up is the general. They both have a look of people who have seen the battlefield strewn with sort of okay sandwiches and decent salads. If they mess up your order in the back then good luck. That's a 40 minute wait for you. Don't you dare tell them how long you've been waiting or else they won't give you any napkins. I ordered the Liddy Special. It was...mediocre. It lacked in the flavor and tasted like I was chewed on a mop that had just finished cleaning spilled Russian Dressing. As for the store itself. Very good selection of beer, liquor and wine. I highly recommend the store for it's knowledgeable staff and variety of booze. I really enjoy that I can buy single beers here if I'm looking to simply sample a beer. Basically come for the booze and good luck at the lunch counter.

Matin Wine Cellar is a local gem! They have an amazing selection of wine and decent beer/liquor selection too, plus they have the best little deli lunch spot in the back! My dad and his buddies love to go there for wine and sandwiches and I love to stop by for something quick on the way to friends or family. The staff is always super helpful and happy to be there. I highly recommend you check it out if you're in the area!

Such a hidden gem. Martin's has some of the best wines around town. I attended a tasting with cheese & charcuterie and the best chicken salad around. The wines were perfect for pairing. The setup inside is very cozy for dining. I must emphasize that I believe this is some of the best chicken salad.

I was looking for a specific tequila for a special event and was greeted by Sean he listen to my needs and made a recommendation on another tequila very knowledgeable. I have referred many to this location and to ask for Sean.

Amazing salads and sandwiches. Great wines. A wonderful place to go to to pull together a picnic. Service was attentive. Great to eat in or take away.

I will give this location three stars. This is well below the Metairie location which I love. when I visited this uptown location, I immediately like it. the environment was pleasantly laid out and beer guy was nice and informative. everyone was nice that took my order, a hot pastrami deli deluxe. but then I waited and waited and waited as I watch countless patrons get their sandwhiches before me even a whole family that ordered after I did. finally probably because I was in the way, the little cashier asked me what I was waiting for, I told him and he said it's coming. I waited some more. I asked the people behind the counter if there was a problem and they looked confused and didn't know what to say. the cashier said maybe because it was a hot sandwich as if to throw that out there as last resort. my sandwhich wasn't even hot. warm at best. a sorry and an honest explanation would have made it much better but they just let me take it, eat, and never gave another thought to me. the sandwhich was good but I felt very undervalued.

Great food and service. From the deli to those helping you find great wine and spirits this is your place. The gourmet selection of meats and cheeses can't be beat. Service and selection is their calling card.

Martin Wine Cellar is one of those Uptown New Orleans institutions that get (or at least got) along fine with word of mouth advertising. That's changed; I do hear occasional ads and sponsorships from Martin's. What's also changed is the venue. Instead of the quirkly old pre-2005-flooding store with that strange big window of glass bricks, the store now occupies a large, modern, airy space just down the block. THe inventory seems larger than before, and the space is seamlessly divided between racks of fine wine and spirits and cafe seating. There's an order-and-pay line attended by staff who are ready to answer questions and even run back for the occasional sample for those who can't decide if they really want the sweet potato or beet concoction-du-jour. In our most recent experience, the shouted pickup instructions got garbled and confused to the point where I put "cluster!" down in my notes. But we all got out food eventually, and hey....that's New Orleans, right? I'm being too severe here. If you can't tolerate a little service inefficiency, you probably should get out of New Orleans altogether. Focus instead on the food: Martin's offers a selection of sandwiches and plate dishes, and nearly always everyone in our party is satsified. On weekends, brunch specials are offered with some light cocktail choices usually involving champagne and fresh fruit. (Yum. I could use one of those right about now). Portions are moderate and reasonable. Finally on your way out, you can pick up such delights as oatmeal chocolate IPA espresso stout or a really good vintage of whatever-nay from Californ-eye-ay or France. I'm kidding about the names, but not the selection; plan to spend a solid half-hour just browsing the racks.

Managed to sit here 30 minutes for a sandwich when there were only a handful of orders in front of me and 5 people in the back mostly talking to eachother the entire time. Asked to cancel my order then they said they'd have it ready in 2 mins (10 mins ago). Watched people after us get their orders and nothing.. Would absolutely not recommend this place for food but raised to 2 stars due to positive experience grabbing a drink.

Okay... you are in New Orleans and you need to buy some great spirits ( not bud light), meats, bread and cheese in one stop. Head to Martin Wine Cellar. This place is well stocked with premium and some ultra high end spirits. I love when you have an extensive selection of vermouth. We purchased a hard to find Japanese single malt scotch and a nice Cocci white vermouth. They also had a great selection of breads and meats, as well as a great cheese section. By the way if you are hungry before shopping, they have a great deli with plenty of seating.

I typically frequent the Metairie location but I love the much bigger parking lot and seemingly larger location. The restaurant inside is much bigger but the selection seems just as varied and nice as Metairie. Friendly service. I would come back again.

Martin Wine Cellar is just fantastic!! What a great store! The prices are incredible. I've never seen retail liquor priced as well as at Martin! Their deli had the best sandwiches and the cake was fantastic! Their little market area had such a nice selection of products. We loved the "tiny pieces" of cheese!! I wish I lived closer to Martin Wine Cellar...I'd definitely be a regular!

There is nothing like Martin's Wine Cellar they are awesome. The food is amazing and the selections of wine and cheeses are fantastic. One of our favorite places to go.

Ordered the Deli Deluxe pastrami sandwich to go. Nothing deluxe about it. Small amounts of gristly, machine sliced meat on a decent, small onion roll. It might work in New Orleans, but any real deli would be ashamed at the lack of substance. Not even a pickle spear included. I guess I should stick with po boys and bahn mis.

Martin wine cellar is one of the best kept secrets in uptown! It's beautiful be of the best local spots to come, great fresh food and deli, and an amazing wine selection. Great friendly staff, daily specials and plenty of parking. The wine selection is not only the larger ones in the area, they have a wide variety and the prices are great. Same bottle of Pinot I got at rouses was two bucks less here. Fresh sandwiches and soup, pizza and an amazing cheese board menu!! You should come just for the cheese board! Great for picnics and upcoming football season! 5 large items, cheese, meat, pate and it includes fruits crackers and bread for $25!!

Very disappointing experience with Martin Wine Cellar on Baronne Street. Went in for some Christmas gift on today and decided to eat lunch in their cafe. Ordered and paid for our order at 12noon. Salad, soup, roast beef sandwich and fries. At 12:30pm our order will still not ready and people before us we're receiving their food. I went up to the counter to find out what the issue could be, I was told we haven't called your name. I told them I haven't even received my soup. After a couple of minutes they called my name, no apology and the roast beef sandwich was barely warm! A very disappointing experience!

Martin's is a terrific example of how to run a business. The owner has taken a conventional wine and liquor store and turned it into one of New Orleans best places to eat good food (and of course, drink their fine wine). We like to go at lunch. Today I had the hamburger which came with cheese and bacon along with the traditional garnishes, and of course, fries. (And I think the potatoes are fresh.). Around $14. When in New Orleans--or Metairie--go to Martin's for delicious food.

Went to Martin Wine Cellar for a wine tasting event they were having, Washington and Oregon Walkabout. It was a great event featuring about 20 winners from the Pacific Northwest. There were some really great wines poured and they were all on sale for the entire month! They also catered the event with a couple different options at each table ranging from a cheese plate to chicken satay. The food that I had was well prepared. This was my first trip to Martin and I was blown away by the size and selection of beer, wine, and spirits. They also have a large seating area to enjoy some of the great food made onsite. We of course went shopping once the drinks were flowing and picked up some wine and a mix and match beer 6 pack which is a great feature for trying new things. I am so glad we found Martin Wine Cellar for our future boozy needs. They appear to have quite a few events at reason ticket prices so check them out for that as well. I know we will be going back to another event soon!

This place is great! Excellent wine and spirits selection, good prices plus the deli is really first rate. Lots of great cheeses, prepared foods, sandwiches, etc highly recommended!

I ordered a cheese board on waitr for lunch and wrote a few things i liked in the description for her to pick from. She called to get some more info from me and wrote me a cute note about the cheese she picked! great customer service

Love this spot for a light lunch or a quick bite. Not only is there a huge wine, alcohol and beer selection but they sell all the little extras you'd need for a party spread. The pate, charcuterie, cheeses, crackers, spreads. It's delicious. If you're running late to a party and need a gift for the host. Or forgot about that potluck. Anything you pick up from Martin's will impress.

Used to be 5-Star, then 4, now 3. Not headed in the right direction. Trouble is, the staff's seeming indifference has now extended to their behind-the-counter crew. Menu selections seem more limited, prices are definitely continuing to rise, and frankly the quality of the food is way down in our opinion. The Caprese Salad, one of their former faves, has become just a puddle of balsamic dressing buoying some sad wilting spinach and basil leaves. Never before had it become necessary to pick out black or past-its-due-date greens from a Martin Wine Cellar salad. As for the Hot Roast Beef Sandwich on French, if it weren't for the puny sliver of tomato included in the "dressed" rendition of this classic, there'd be almost no moisture at all. Do they not understand how "roast beef gravy" works? (Not sure now why the menu even mentions it.) Prepare to reassemble the sammy yourself in order that bites taken on either side of the central axis might contain a little meat! Raspberry iced tea that tastes like blue PowerAde? No thanks. Sorry, blowing $30-50 on a lunch for two that leaves both of us HUNGRY is not our idea of Uptown dining. Let us know if things return to normal one day. Until then, we shan't be back.

This is our go-to wine store! The staff is unfailingly helpful and friendly. There is a large selection of wines, beers and spirits. The full-service deli is convivial and makes sandwiches and salads if the highest quality. It is a popular spot for locals, but there is usually seating available. Not far from the St. Charles streetcar line. We have also used their delivery service, that was particularly helpful during the pandemic when we sought to limit our public contact. Martins also hosts wine tastings and educational seminars both public ally and for private parties.

"Best Chocolate Ganache Cake ever..." friends loved the cake for our 4th of July gathering!

I've never had a bad meal here! Both the uptown and Metairie locations are outstanding. My go to sandwich is the cuban. Easy to get in and have a fabulous lunch. So good:)

I'm absolutely spoiled having this store walking distance from my home. The selection is great, the service is impeccable and the Deli is always serving tasty cuisine.

Always fresh and delicious. Great staff that is happy to help you find whatever you need. When you need booze or bites, this is your best local stop.

Nice neighborhood deli with plenty of luncheon options. When they are busy, it could take a while to get your food. Salads are great! However, if you order one when they are busy, it tends to be much smaller.
