Maru - Review - Williamsburg - New York - The Infatuation

"Maru is one of those LA coffee shops wherepeople go to look cool. According to our colleagues out there, it also servesincredible coffee. The mini-chain has a location in Williamsburg now where, in addition to espresso sets, matcha, and their signature Cream Top drinks, you can grab a pastry fromFrenchette." - Bryan Kim

The Best NYC Food of 2025

"After opening a Williamsburg branch, L.A. roaster Maru’s short coffee cups have spread along the Domino Park riviera; automatic drip is rebrewed every 30 minutes so to-go cups aren’t stale, while single-origin coffee-and-espresso “sets” at the wood-grained counter let connoisseurs explore their deeply cared-for beans." - Alan Sytsma

L.A.’s Maru Coffee Expands to Williamsburg

"I visited Maru's Williamsburg outpost at 320 Wythe Ave., and on a recent visit—while new staff were being trained by manager Kyuho Choi, who recently moved from L.A.—it was evident the shop is focused on coffee over cream. The Los Angeles–born café, whose first East Coast location opened in Williamsburg, began in 2016 and built a reputation for properly dosed espresso and a pour-over menu now featuring six single-origin house roasts; demand surged after it started selling cream-top iced coffee and matcha in 2018. The menu highlights unique espresso sets that pair an espresso or cortado with a small drip-coffee chaser (a riff on the off-menu “one and one”), served on custom-etched wood trays with tasting notes or in one-handed cardboard carriers to-go, with prices from $4.50 for a single espresso to $8 for the priciest set. Co-founder Jacob Park, who began as a barista at 15 and learned roasting from an early specialty-coffee mentor, favors a traditional “strong, bitter and dark” profile in the house blend Santo, while the lighter Sanmi (a mix of washed and natural-processed beans) shows up in drinks like an iced breve macchiato that tastes like a fresh-coffee Creamsicle. Drip is brewed every 30 minutes using three-day-old beans—Park prefers the zippy character of extra-fresh coffee even though he acknowledges espresso needs about ten days—and Park also oversaw the shop design: a high‑ceilinged space with intentional wood grain and low tables and chairs that pay homage to the founders’ Korean background, adding a ceremonial quality while serving as an effective laptop deterrent." - Tammie Teclemariam

We absolutely loved our experience here. The coffee itself is excellent, but what makes it even more special is the overall experience of enjoying it. Every little detail is thoughtfully taken care of, and those small touches make a big difference for visitors. The atmosphere is beautiful and carries a charm that instantly reminded me of the time I visited cafés in Seoul—it truly felt like being transported back in time. A wonderful spot for both great coffee and a memorable vibe.

A fresh and modern but cosy cafe in Williamsburg, Brooklyn NYC, @marucoffeela serves an amazing cappuccino! Freshly baked pastries, friendly baristas and plenty of seating. Really enjoyed the whole experience and could go again and again!

Maru Coffee is the newest cafe in williamsburg (among millions of cafes). they came straight from LA🤍
its name means mountain top (san ma ru) in korean, which also reflects their finest coffee beans. despite the name, the space they have created is bright, calm and warm. i tried the signature vanilla bean latte ($6.75) ☕️ which is a double shot latte with vanilla bean paste. it is a solid latte (which is pretty hard to find in nyc 😭). the line is still very long. i went on a sunny sunday at 10.30. it was not until 11.00 that i got my drink. the space has tons of natural light and many seats to choose. there is alao a restroom. they have very limited pastry selection 🥐 but solid espresso sets, and pour overs. i would definitely go back and try the bon bon (double espresso with signature cream served with sugar rim ✨)

Moving from SoCal, seeing Maru on the East Coast feels like such a treat—it’s like having a piece of home in the lively and stylish neighborhood of Williamsburg. Their quality remains amazing, from the coffee (especially the macchiato) to the matcha. And don’t skip the canelés—they’re delightful! Just note that it’s a busy shop with limited seating, so it’s not ideal for long stays or WFH. But it’s the perfect spot to catch up with friends or grab your daily brew. If you’re lucky enough to snag a seat, the interior is serene with a beautiful Japandi–brutalist vibe. And the service is warm and kind!

This place is pretty mediocre at best, super not worth the hype. Been here twice & got a very meh vanilla latte. My friend got the breve white - which is black coffee with a cream top. However they only give you 2/3 of the portion you pay for 😂 it’s not espresso, it’s black coffee so you’d expect it to be filled to the top. This was after mixing the cream in, but without taking a single sip. I’d save your money and head down the street to Devocion or Partners instead. The people are really nice though! Very sweet, and cute interior

This is my first visit and I’m already planning my return. This looks like the kind of place that might have snooty/cold service but everyone was very warm and welcoming. The atmosphere and interior design are beautiful. I ordered the signature Vanilla Latte. It could have been a little more vanilla-forward but it was a great latte all the way around.
