"Maru took over the former Burger Joint space in the Nations with counter-service sushi and an outdoor patio for more temperate Nashville days. The space has an industrial, gastropub feel working for it thanks to its predecessor, but that doesn’t take away from its flavor-packed crunch rolls, sushi burritos, and the crowd-favorite avocado bomb — a deep-fried avocado stuffed with spicy tuna, crab, avocado, and cream cheese. Along with their Nations spot, you’ll also find two other locations in East Nashville and Hendersonville." - Jackie Gutierrez-Jones, Delia Jo Ramsey, Eater Staff

Google
We walked here from our AirBNB since it had good reviews. But, I have to say that we were pleasantly surprised with the quality and flavor of our dinner. We didn’t order anything crazy, but the Chirashi and my wife’s Rainbow Roll were both fantastic. Service was friendly and well paced.

As someone who grew up in California loving sushi, this is a great place! I think the prices are fair and the sushi is delicious. We got the dynamite roll, spicy, tuna, roll, Baja fresh roll, and the salmon maki. We also got the ginger salad to start! It was so fresh and, I loved the service here. The dynamite roll and Baha fresh roll were my favorite.

Google
I really like Maru. It had Korean and Japanese dishes. Everything was fresh and tasty. They had good vegan options for sushi. We got a few sushi rolls and bibimbap.

Great food even better service. Will definitely try again!!

Google
This was a lovely restaurant with a relaxing environment. This is some of the best sushi we've had in both Nashville and Clarksville! Everything tasted really fresh and was made very well. We received our food in a reasonable time and the staff was very nice. I would 100% recommend this place to anyone!

Google
Very cute place great for smaller parties. The sushi was the best I've had so far! It was fresh with well balanced flavors and it looked fantastic. They are very welcoming and pleasant. Some may think its pricey but you pay for what you get which is quality.

Google
The tables turn over fairly quickly so our wait for four was not long. The menu is extensive. We tried 6 different rolls and one of our friends ordered on their own. Everything was fresh and beautifully presented. Only one criticism, there's too many items with cream cheese in them. Recommend: Pirates Treasure, Pink Lady, Volcano, Tiger, Crazy, and Baja. The staff is friendly and attentive. We'll be back!!

Google
THE BEST sushi I have had in Nashville, and I try a lot. When the sushi bar is in the middle of the restaurant for all to see and the sushi chefs are friendly and visibly talented, you know it’s good. It’s a cute little spot that’s nicely decorated. Staff is very friendly. I love this place so much I wish I could dine here more often.

Yelp
We had no idea Maru was in our neighborhood, but thanks to a quick search on Yelp, and some rave reviews from fellow Yelp Elites, we now have a new go-to sushi spot! We stopped in on a Thursday evening around 6 pm and the restaurant was busy but not packed. A waitress let us know we could sit wherever we wanted, so we snagged a table on the patio next to some beautiful blooming trees. Their menu is expansive, and we opted to share some spicy edamame while deciding what sushi rolls we wanted. Emphasis on "spicy," because the heat is no joke! Thankfully, we'd also ordered some Coconut Lemongrass Sake, which helped balance out the spice. We shared four rolls - and loved each of them for different reasons! All of the fish was fresh and bright, and even the rolls that had something fried inside (shrimp tempura or soft shell crab) weren't super heavy. The Green Roll offered a fun, veggie-centric bite with a creamy finish. My husband's favorite was the "Captain's Secret," which was a little sweet, a little crispy, and super flavorful. The service was fast and attentive - and the prices were pretty spot on for the amount of food we got. I absolutely recommend this hidden gem to anyone looking for a unique sushi experience in East!

Yelp
Great little restaurant. Very quaint, prices were great for the quality and quantity of the food. Had a Philadelphia roll and a spicy tuna! Had the ginger and seaweed salad, the dumpling and the beef fried rice which was very good and perfect to share. Delicious. Service was great and quick. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Looooovvveeeee!!!! It was so cheap for the quality of the sushi. Definitely bringing people to this spot

Hank D.

Yelp
Service was excellent and sushi was fresh as well plentiful. The ambiance was very calming and welcoming as always. The take out was rocking in accordance to the inside which was still being serviced with a smile. Nice to see and proud to attend this awesome concept provided by the best folks in town. I promise you will not be dissatisfied with any bite or encounter in this friendly space. It's always been our place to enjoy a great day or just need a great experience. Thank you Harry and Rita!!

Yelp
We were super tired and didn't want to go out, so we had Maru delivered to our Airbnb. It was refreshing to eat something light as opposed to all the other heavy food we were eating in Nashville! I got a cup of miso soup, which was all broth with two cubes of tofu, it was good. We split three rolls. I was worried that would be too much food, but their rolls are on the smaller size so it was perfect. Philadelphia - Typical salmon, cream cheese, and avocado roll. I was happy with it. Yum Yum - Yummy for sure! This was "spicy" crab, cucumber, more crab meat, and "spicy" mayo. This did not pack a punch with the spice level, but it was really tasty and our favorite roll. I loved how much crab meat there was! Crunch Shrimp - I was expecting the crunch to be on top, like every other sushi place I have been to, but it was inside the roll? Very odd...it was like eating sand. The shrimp was dry, the crunch was dry...it needed avocado or some sauce or something to compensate for the dryness. We didn't finish this roll. Prices were cheap, each roll was less than $10. Without all the Postmates fees this probably would be been less than $30!

Yelp
I enjoy visits to Maru with my family for the delicious Japanese and Korean dishes that are fresh and approachable. The kids love the udon dishes, I enjoy the vegetarian ramen, and service is always friendly, helpful, and patient with kids. The nigiri and sashimi are OK, while the vegetable-heavy green roll and veggie roll are always a big hit with my kids. Other enjoyable dishes are squid salad and agedashi tofu. Everything is thoughtfully presented. Pricing is reasonable. The variety of seating makes the restaurant lively yet suitable for conversation or a solo meal. In mild weather, the large patio is fantastic, and the rear garage doors open for even more al fresco dining. While the parking lot is small, there is ample street parking nearby, even on busier weekend nights.

Yelp
I was traveling from Louisville to see a concert at Basement East and decided to pop in for a quick dinner; I was admittedly running behind schedule, but that didn't impact my night at all! The service was fast and friendly, the wine and food selection great as well! I'll definitely be recommending this spot to friends and family whenever they make their own trip to Nashville :-)

Peyton W.

Yelp
We ordered sushi and salads and the food was great. Lots of staff but a small kitchen, so be prepared to wait in their busy times. If you're looking for a casual spot to get a drink and food, check it out.

Jason C.

Yelp
We came in to a packed restaurant at 7pm on a Friday night & were told about a 10 minute wait for 2 but were sat in less than 5 minutes. Parking was easy for us in the lot across the street, but also lots of street parking in the surrounding neighborhoods. We ordered the Agedashi Tofu as an appetizer & it was really good. The tofu was fried perfectly & the broth was super savory with a great balance of sweet & salty. We split 4 premium rolls - Pirates Treasure, Salmon Lover, Tuna Lover, & Dragon. We weren't expecting much as far as sushi quality but we were genuinely impressed for being in a landlocked state! I won't go too much into detail with each roll, but the rice to fish ratio was good, the fish tasted fresh & did not have a fishy taste. Sushi rice was made well, & portion to price ratio was also satisfactory. Each of the rolls we ordered were so unique & equally hit the spot in different ways. Highly recommend any of the rolls we got but Pirates Treasure was probably my favorite. We also ordered a Hana Lychee Sake & let me just say that stuff is dangerous! So good. Despite being super packed, our waitress was very attentive & friendly the entire time, & all of our food came out very quickly. The meal after tip came out to about $100. Highly recommend coming here if you're looking for a quality yet affordable sushi place!

Yelp
Went to Maru with a few friends and had a great experience. Our server was good about refilling drinks, and checking on us every now and then. The ambiance is a mix of casual and upscale so works well for a date night or with friends. We ordered 4 different rolls - Calamari - Rainbow - Pirates Treasure - Crunch Mania They were all tasty, but If I were to rank them I'd go Pirates Treasure, Crunch Mania, Calamari, Rainbow. All tasted fresh and were a decent size (not small but also not the largest rolls we've had). We will be coming back here to try the Avocado bomb which looked amazing and a few more rolls. Highly recommend!

Calvin N.

Yelp
Had a light dinner at Maru East last night and what a fabulous meal our server was excellent she did not miss a beat. I had the avocado ball stuffed with tuna and covered with eel and yum yum sauce !And the tuna cappachio. Arrived early in the evening so they were not busy yet but by the time I left they were packed. The place was vibrant and fun. Plenty of street parking.

Yelp
A consistently strong place to get your sushi fix. Maru has been a favorite lunch haunt for me recently when I'm in need of some good sushi in East Nashville. Tucked into the shops on Fatherland Street, I'm always able to find some easy street parking nearby and they are always playing like the hits of 2016, which gives me all the nostalgia feels. It's never been overly packed for lunch, but they seem to have a steady stream of regulars. Huge bonus for me is that the patio is dog friendly and my pup really enjoys the ambiance here (wish I could give extra stars to places my dog likes!) My favorites here are the sushi specials (the crunch mania will forever have my heart), which have truly one of the most generous servings of sushi for this price point that I've found anywhere in Nashville for specialty rolls. I also really love the lunch bento, for when I'm in the mood to try a little bit of everything (miso soup, ginger salad, protein option, rice, two gyoza - all for just $13). The gyoza is a little forgettable to me but literally everything else I've had here has been amazing. Other menu favorites include the edamame and the tempura (but be forewarned -- if you only get the veggie tempura, it's most ideal for 1 person, not really a shareable item.) I have yet to try their true entrees menu, but to be honest, the sushi is so fresh, reasonably priced, and enticing that I'll likely keep coming back here just for that.

Jessica R.

Yelp
Absolute must when in Nashville! The Avocado bombs are amazing. Been here twice now and have loved every roll I've tried. Honestly if I have a real strong sushi craving I think I'd consider the 2 1/2 hour drive up from Chattanooga!

Amy D.

Yelp
Stopped in on a Friday night and we're blown away. We were able to sit right away, and our server, though it seemed like she was serving the whole restaurant, was so attentive! They offer beer wine and sake, I got to try a sake seltzer which was delicious. Food came out quickly, and everything we had was delicious and priced well. This is quickly going to become a go to sushi spot for us!

Cameron V.

Yelp
Love their sushi! It's my go to weekly sushi spot. Service is always quick and staff is friendly. We love to get it to go and the quality is always great, but also love the ambiance at the restaurant.

Kelsey E.

Yelp
Went on a Tuesday for dinner, the restaurant was nearly full when we arrived, but we were able to get a table immediately (party of two). The inside was bright and clean and it was no issue getting free street parking. We were big fans of the veggie gyoza and the dynamite roll was sooooo good. Oddly, the california roll tasted a bit off, but other than that solid sushi. We finished our meal with strawberry mochi and left satisfied!

Kandace H.

Yelp
10/10 hands down. I love the ambiance. It's such a cute place nestled in a little neighborhood of east Nashville. My server was so sweet, the food was SO fresh and delicious. It has a cute patio. I will definitely be back. I highly recommend it!

Yelp
We enjoyed the location , vibe and food at this fine East Nashville sushi joint. Everything was fresh and nicely presented. The bowl was great

Bobby Y.

Yelp
Ordered a local Little Harpeth Chicken Scratch ($4) pilsner beer and a Chirashi bowl ($27.95) which arrived at the table at a good, chilled fish temperature. The bowl was of a small-to-average size - honestly I was expecting something a little bigger for the menu price - but then I tasted the fish and surmised that the quality of this fish is *slightly* better (but not by much) than some of the local Chirashi bowl competition (e.g. Bite A Bit, I Love Sushi). I enjoyed this Chirashi bowl. No where near as much as a West Coast chirashi bowl, but this ain't Vegas, no matter how many folks love saying "NashVegas". The big picture question is: should I be eating sushi in Nashville in the first place? It is my opinion that there is still not enough of a critical mass of decent sushi here - in fact, the preponderance of sketchy room-temperature crudo dishes at random New American bistros across Davidson County is bringing the average down - way down. Apparently "Jiro Dreams Of Sushi" made it look too easy. All this being said, the patio setting here at Maru East is really cool, the service is kind and efficient, and parking is easy enough - the spaces are wide enough to bring your "nice" car. I'd totally come and eat here again. The space is a little quiet, so I wouldn't conduct a business meeting or set up a first date here as everyone around you will hear every word you're saying...

Yelp
Lovely little sushi haven in middle of East Nashville. A bunch of great options at reasonable prices in a cool neighborhood. Great for takeout, or a cute place to dine in. They have some alcohol if you feeling in the mood, and plenty of choices for all to enjoy. If you're feeling something other than sushi, they also have some great Korean options like bibimbap or bulgolgi. This is usually my go-to guilty pleasure whenever I'm in town and I'll most certainly be back as soon as possible.

Ashley M.

Yelp
Hard to find good/reasonably priced sushi in Nashville and this place is THE best I've found so far!! We come here almost every week and it never misses. Plus the servers are always quick and super friendly!

Chance B.

Yelp
I ordered via Uber Eats. The food arrived quickly and with a smile. The nigiri was delicious (white tuna- my go to). The bulgogi was good- but a different preparation than I'm used to. The albacore special was pretty good but would love to try other things on the menu. I ordered the avocado bomb as it comes highly recommended- it is yummy but very rich. Something to charge with a group of 4 or more. Overall my roommate and I really enjoyed the dishes but do want to go to the restaurant to try other options in person as they have a lot of wonderful menu items!

Ellen D.

Yelp
This is a great place to pop in without reservations if you are in the mood for some sushi :) I love coming here and sharing a few rolls, and their outside patio is so nice!

Thao N.

Yelp
Great sushi, good prices, cute space, and friendly service! We ordered the chirashi, shrimp teriyaki lunch special, and ikura nigiri. The chirashi was a nice assortment of fresh, good quality fish. The rice was a bit hard so I didn't have much of it. The ikura was yummy and fresh. My colleague enjoyed her lunch special. Overall, a great spot in Nashville for sushi. I would return if I am in the area again.

Aura G.

Yelp
Maru Sushi is an okay place for traditional Japanese food. My mom ordered the chirashi, which came with seaweed and spicy crab salad and had very high quality fish. I got the katsu pork lunch special, which comes with miso soup, salad, 4 pieces of california roll, and the pork katsu with rice. The two biggest things taking away from both meals is the small portion size and high price. These entrees and one cup of hot tea cost $50 (not including tip). Also, the bathroom is outside of the restaurant and shared between the other restaurants in the same unit. Since it's East Nashville, the parking lot has limited spots so parallel parking is to be expected.

Noelle D.

Yelp
Best sushi we've had in a longggg time and it was SO affordable! My fiancé got the "Hot Night" roll and omg it was one of the best rolls I've ever had. I got white tuna - it was okay! I've had fresher. I can't remember the name of my roll, but tbh I would get the Hot Night roll everyday anyways. Chicken fried rice was delish! Service amazing! 9/10 overall

Jo W.

Yelp
The bento box!!! Such a good deal! It's fresh, delicious, and has a lot of food options in it. I highly recommend it. I get it almost every single day for lunch! Call ahead and they'll have it ready for you when you get there. It does get busy around lunch so if you are in a rush, call and place your order ahead of time. The staff are so nice here and the ambiance inside is so personable and cute! They've got free parking right out side the building which is also a huge plus

Kennedy B.

Yelp
Food was fresh. Service was pleasant, quick. Ambiance on a Saturday evening was quaint- matched the local, neighborhood vibes that it's located.

Emily M.

Yelp
I have been here twice during weekend trips to Nashville and absolutely love eating here. The fish is so fresh, service is excellent and it's a great atmosphere. Also loved the dessert.

Juan J.

Yelp
very average sushi. good local spot but don't go out of your way to come here! Service was meh. starting 8:30 the staff starts cleaning creating a meh atmosphere.

Isaac J.

Yelp
Maru Sushi is always a great option -- especially at lunch to take advantage of their few bento box options. Staff is friendly and the vibes are good. Love Maru Sushi around!!

Coti H.

Yelp
Decided to check out Maru on a whim tonight for sushi and was very pleasantly surprised. The reviews did not steer me wrong! The restaurant is on the corner with ample parking around (we opted for free on street parking). It was busy but not too busy and we had amazing service! I got a glass of wine (as they didn't have cocktails) to start along with the garlic edamame and a ginger salad. The edamame was ADDICTIVE! As far as rolls went, I opted for very non-traditional and went with the Happy Roll (so good) and the Hot Night, which was my favorite. The flavors in that one were so perfect with a hint of spice and then a hint of sweet with the eel sauce. I highly recommend this adorable little sushi spot!

Brian A.

Yelp
The next stop on my current Nashville trip has me looking for some local Nashville sushi and I have heard a lot of great things about Maru Sushi & Grill so I decided to stop by and see if the hype for Maru is worth the visit. When you first enter Maru, you will notice a very relaxed and chill vibe which is a very welcoming one. Our server, Olivia, told us to sit so long as there was soy sauce at the table which is great since Maru is enforcing social distancing as well as mask wearing of guests and staff. The menu at Maru has quite a lot to offer from a full list of appetizers to entrees but the real main offering here and the reason why I decided to visit, is the sushi. Maru has an entirely separate double-sided menu of their sushi such as four choices of baked rolls and list of their premium rolls. Olivia was quite knowledgeable when it came to asking for an opinion on what I should try so I decided to go with Maru's special, The Captain's Secret, Play Boy and the Hawaiian as well as trying their Smoked Mountain. The sushi here at Maru's has excellent flavor that your mouth will truly thank you for and flavor that will have you wanting even more. The rolls here are plentiful and not at all small like some places can be and the presentation of their dishes is quite pleasing to the eye. Maru is definitely a place I will be coming back to whenever I find myself back in Nashville and one that I absolutely highly recommend anyone that is looking for some incredibly delicious sushi to come check out as well as a place that is rather quiet and away from the bustling streets of Broadway to come and get your sushi fix at some excellent prices.

Gregory B.

Yelp
Went to Maru with my wife before heading over to Sid's Gold Request Room to meet friends. After eating there, not sure I agree with the five star reviews, but definitely a solid 4. Wife disagrees and says five, but I will let her add her own, if she wants. :D Maru is a cute little place. We were not too far from the front door and the only detractor is the sign behind the hostess counter is REALLY bright (see picture added). NOTE: If it were warmer, it would have been nice to sit out on their porch, so will have to revisit when the evenings are cool enough, but not cold. Currently, they are not seating at the sushi bar, which is a shame, since I am a fan of sushi bar seating. And the garage doors make it so the entire restaurant could be open air. I like that personally, but your mileage may vary. I did the quick and easy method and ordered the small sushi combo, which is 5 pieces and a spicy tuna roll. Wife had a rainbow roll and the crispy roll. My feeling on the sushi was mixed. The tuna was so-so, although the rest were good. I really enjoyed the spicy tuna roll. It came with miso soup, which was fairly standard. And I ordered a salad. The dressing is good, but I think the lettuce was still pretty wet when thrown in the bowl, as the dressing was watered down in the last two bites (a small pet peeve of mine?). With a shellfish allergy, I could not try my wife's (Surami is not dangerous (the krab, instead of real crab), but better safe than sorry). She gave it two thumbs up. There is a lot in back of Maru, but it is small. As with most of East Nashville, you may end up parking on the street. Right now, not a huge deal, but once we feel safer to go out it could be a bit of a walk. Service was great, especially after a previous experience in a restaurant in Bellevue. Drink selection limited (beer, wine, & various sakes), but there are some interesting choices, esp. some flavored sakes. Overall, I enjoyed the experience and would try again (maybe a slightly off night for tuna?). I would recommend if you are in the area.

Yelp
Food was decent, came on a slow night - Tuesday. Service was quick & the server was really nice. The place was clean and tidy. I ordered two rolls - Captain secret and Baja Fresh. The Captain was ok, but the Baja wasn't as "fresh" as I had expected. Not saying the food wasn't fresh as in a bad way. Just didn't have the fresh, crisp, clean flavor you'd expect. Couldjust be me but it wasn't! I powered thru the Captain but left most of the Baja on the plate. It's possible I'll come back and try something different. Miso soup was on point!

Natalie M.

Yelp
Great sushi, great price, and lovely atmosphere. Will come back again! Got the vegetable tempura which tasted great but is a small portion so if you are trying to share with others maybe order 2 of these. For sushi we got the spider roll, the hot gabby, the caterpillar, and the salmon lover. The caterpillar and Salomon lover were AMAZING will definitely be getting again. I personally liked the spider but wasn't too wowed by it and the hot gabby wasn't bad but the least favorite of the four. I personally wouldn't recommend the hot gabby. As for desert we got the tempura ice cream. It was good nothing bad but nothing amazing. If you crave ice cream and want to get desert get it. But def not a "must have" It comes in 4 pieces though so it's easy to share.

Camilla J.

Yelp
We are so hooked on this place! The fish is of great quality and the sushi roles comes in all the best varieties and have all the classics you like. Super friendly staff and they live fast too. It's perfect for pick up and eat at home, I really like the sashimi that comes in different sizes and has a good mix of different types of fish.

Salina X.

Yelp
The parking lot for the building is tiny. However, if you turn into the street right next to the building's lot, going into a street of homes, there's a parking lot in the corner. You might miss it driving when it's dark because it isn't very well lit. Everything was delicious, filled with flavor, and fresh. We ordered the avocado ball, hot gabby roll, smoky mountain roll, tuna lover roll, and crunch mochi roll. The avocado ball had the perfect balance of tuna, avocado, and sauce. Plentiful as well. My favorite roll was the smoky mountain. I'm just a sucker for baked rolls. I would say my least favorite was the crunch mochi. It was a bit too basic for me. The service was good and everything is reasonably priced. The bathroom is a shared bathroom for the building it seems. It's not far or anything. You just have to go out the side door but it's just a bit weird to have to exit the restaurant in order to use the bathroom.

Maya P.

Yelp
This is such a cute spot! I came here on a Thursday night with a few friends after a beer tasting at Crazy Gnome. We were all hungry and sushi sounded like a good move, this definitely was. I had the miso soup and shrimp tempura to start, then the Pirate's Treasure for my entrée. Everything was delicious! It had been a while since I had yellowtail so I was excited to have such a delicious roll. I'm picky about my food being hot and everything came out steaming which is a huge plus for the restaurant. On top of the food, they had a nice beer and wine list and I go to have a couple glasses of one of my favorites (Chateau St.. Michelle Riesling). The ambience is cute, they are definitely observant of social distancing and keeping everything clean due to Covid. The tables were spaced out and it wasn't super crowded or loud. I'll definitely be back to try a few more rolls and more of the miso soup.

Stephen H.

Yelp
My wife and I stopped in at Maru after a long weekend of moving and getting settled in our new home. It hit the spot and checked off all the boxes for us as far as a go to sushi joint. The miso was good, they had beer I liked, and the sushi roll options were aplenty. I had a mix of nigiri and a couple of the specialty rolls and my wife also enjoyed several rolls. The servings were generous but not too big, the rice was perfectly done and the fish was fresh and well cut. Definitely will be back and would recommend to anyone looking for a solid sushi joint. My favorite was the spicy scallop nigiri btw.

Emily M.

Yelp
I only got a picture of our appetizers but everything was great! The avocado bomb is filled with spicy tuna. YUM!! We got two sushi rolls and sashimi salmon all very very good. The fried rice is a little dry but the flavor is there! Our server was very kind and knowledgeable and the service was super fast!

Yerim P.

Yelp
I ordered a pick up order with 3 rolls. The playboy, spicy tuna and eel cucumber. All 3 rolls were so delicious and I really appreciated the fish to rice ratio! I love how they didn't try to jip out on you with the fish. My rolls were filled with fish and not too much rice! Very good and I highly recommend.

Steph G.

Yelp
Had a phenom experience here- love the space, high chairs available for infants, really pleasant staff. Food was great- we ordered a salad, a few sushi rolls and a ramen - everything was fresh and delicious. This may be the new go to sushi spot... fairly priced and a great product.

Jessika P.

Yelp
We came here because our son was craving sushi for his birthday. We had 2 teens in our group so we tasted many things. Once we were seated it took awhile for the waitress to come with menus. But she was sweet and we could tell she was new. It was surprising that our water was served in plastic cups. Not a fan of that. Back to the food. We started with spicy edamame and miso. The miso was good but my bowl has no tofu; which was surprising. The edamame was spicy with a good flavor, but it was a bit cold once it arrived to our table. My husband and I shared the yellowtail appetizer with jalapeño. It was excellent. I had the spicy tuna Albacore roll with crunchy onions and it was also very good. My husband had the salmon and tuna sushi which was super fresh and a decent size for each of them. The boys ordered the Alaska, Yum Yum and spicy tuna rolls. They really liked the balance of the spicy tuna and the Alaska rolls together. Over all the food was great! They just need to work on their décor and change out the plastic cups for glass.

Brandon B.

Yelp
Decent sushi. Not the best, not the worst. Had the Play Boy and Happy rolls. Definitely not top quality, but good enough. Also had the tempura udon. That was strange. I don't know if what was floating on top of the broth in the plastic take-out container was tempura flakes, but it was soggy by the time it arrived. Bunch of soggy things floating there. Weird consistency, too. Noodles were fine though, as were two tempura shrimp in a separate container. That's really what matters. Wouldn't return, but not bad, all things considered.

Joyce K.

Yelp
Absolutely the best Sushi in Nashville! You are definitely missing out if you haven't tried Maru. We cannot come to Nashville and not visit at least once.

Yelp
Update from July 2019: ::: I still love this place! The sushi is so fresh and I have become addicted to the crunch mania roll, which is the absolute perfect combination of sweet and spicy! You don't even need soy sauce to dip it in because it's so tasty on its own. I could eat it at least once a week! It's pricy, but totally worth what you are getting with their sushi. ::: Why has there not been more hype for this restaurant?! It's amazing! I love the white, simple design inside with natural light. They have K-pop on the tv on mute which is fun to watch and not intrusive to your conversation since there's no sound. There's both indoor and outdoor seating that is dog friendly. The wait staff is cool (I love their colored hair). And food is awesome! This is the best sushi I've had in Nashville, maybe anywhere. They had some innovative rolls, fresh ingredients, and a good selection to choose from (not all fried and heavy like some other places). Get the Pink Lady roll, you won't be disappointed! The Baja Fresh roll was great too. I went there for sushi, but ended up ordering an assortment of food and sharing with our group. I also tried the ginger salad, spicy edamame, miso soup, gyoza, fried rice, bulgogi, and those two sushi rolls (ordered a 2nd pink lady because one wasn't enough). I loved everything except the fried rice, which wasn't bad but just okay compared to the rest. They also have wine, beer, and sake. I had the William ill Chardonnay and it was very good. All that to say, we will be back here!

Yelp
This was a fortuitous yelp find on a Saturday night that was unplanned. I was shocked that we were able to be seated immediately on a Saturday night. I immediately fell in love with the charm when we walked in; it's a super feminine feel with roll up garage doors for warmer weather, beautiful light fixtures, and it's accented with succulents. It honestly put me in a relaxed and happy space. They have interesting craft beers, some of which I had never heard of before. There is a bar with all kinds of options. I noticed they had lots of rose- loving this feminine vibe! We shared a bowl of the tempura udon to start. It was mild and came with two shrimp tempura. Very enjoyable. Then we had spicy tuna rolls, unagi, and yellowtail maki. The yellowtail was my favorite, they were not stingy with the fish at all! All of the sushi was incredibly fresh and beautifully rolled. It was some of the best sushi that I have had in Nashville. We had a lovely time at Maru and will definitely come back!

Yelp
The food and service was excellent. Ive never had baked sushi but the volvano was great. Reason for 4 stars is the size of the roll. Ive eaten sushi dozens and dozens of times and on 3 continents and every time you order sushi it comes in 6-9 rolls. Not here. Order a sushi "roll" and it looks like the pic. 2 pieces. They tell you that in the order but i thought i was misunderstanding something. Nope. Its 2 pieces. Not bad but you need to know that up front. Also plan on parking across the street in the gravel parking lot. Not alot of parking up close.

Yelp
What a cute little spot in East Nashville. This was definitely a new experience for me. First off the ambiance is amazing. Restaurant was extremely clean. Which is always a plus during COVID. Not over crowded another plus. Now to discuss the food. Everything was HOT AND FRESH. Everything I ate was amazing. For starters we tried Potstickers, oysters, and calamari. We also tried one of the sushi rolls (I forget the name) and like all the other reviews it was tasty. For our entree we had the fried rice and for the first time ever I tried udon noodle soup and I really liked it. It had a sweet taste, but I was able to spice it up. I definitely would come back because it was just that good. Our waitress was super sweet as well.
