We loved this place! The rolls were absolutely delicious and very reasonably priced, which is soooo important. You can really taste the quality, and the service was great too. Honestly, it feels like everywhere in Nashville the rolls are crazy expensive for no reason, but here the quality is great and the pricing actually makes sense. Everything was delicious. We had a couple of rolls and the lunch special. I recommend the lunch special because it’s a lot of delicious food for under $20. The place is super cute, parking was easy, and we really hope to see more people checking it out because it deserves way more love!!! We’ll definitely be back 😊

Our 3rd visit and delicious every time! We had tuna carpaccio, sake tataki, Baja fresh roll and beef fried rice. The sake tataki consisted of seared salmon over honey glazed brussel sprouts. Everything was fresh and delicious. I am so glad Maru opened in this area. I can't wait to return.

My husband and I had been going out to eat on a Saturday night after church and last night was our first time here.Usually, we go for Google search or word of mouths for restaurants that we have not tried and read reviews and our criteria is from 4.7 and higher but can go down from 4.5 and higher just to give room for the benefits of the doubt.Obviously,Maru Weho met our standard,that was why we came. We made a reservation, but we still could have been accepted as walk ins since there were few empty tables available when we arrived. Upon arrival, there was nobody in the reception booth, but the sweet lady bartender, made time to get us seated with a warm and welcoming attitude.It appeared that they were short staffed last night because we only saw her and the one taking orders in the dining area who happened to be our server and then the staff in the kitchen which we could not see, because it was not an open kitchen.After few minutes of being seated, additional staffs appeared to have arrived though. In spite of this, however, it did not compromise their great service.Seemed that everybody were trained to do multi tasking and knew how to ran a busy night. Our server Rahul, was so friendly and efficient and kept everything ran smoothly and even gave us a complimentary appetizer and an entree for what he felt a wait, although we did not feel it at all because we were still busy looking at the menu and enjoying the cozy atmosphere when he came to our table to get our orders.This kind gesture was extraordinary and made us feel valued making our experience so special.We ordered a lot, because we were hungry and we wish we can give you the list with individual descriptions of each, but since this review alone is already long, how much more, when we do that.All we can say is, from appetizers to small plates to entrees, they were all delicious, authentic, fresh, and of high qualities.My husband also ordered the ube colada cocktail which he said was so refreshing and then the mochi ice cream and fried Oreo for desserts and cleaned up our plates.Added bonus at the end of our meal was the bill. Considering that I mentioned that we ordered a lot, it was still affordable and actually within or below our weekend budget eating out.There were still a lot on the menu that we would like to try, so, we will definitely come back.We highly recommend it.So, please do yourself a favor and put this restaurant in your priority list because we are sure,you will not regret it

Today was our second visit to Maru, and both experiences were amazing. On our first visit we tried the chef curated experience (7 courses, including dessert), and second time we selected a few things off the menu for lunch. The food was impressive both times—high quality fish, interesting presentation, and nice accompaniments (one roll came with some deep fried onion pieces and the other with spicy marinated carrots). I look forward to trying a lot of other items on the menu and discovering my favorites. Will definitely be back many times.

I just had the best lunch of my life at Maru WeHo! I could truly eat her every day! I sat at the bar and was immediately greeted by Rahul! The food was incredible I was blown away by the shrimp tempura tamaki! 🤯 I ordered the lunch special which included the tamaki, salmon teriyaki, fried rice soup and salad for $18. I still truly can’t believe how good it was and the value is incredible! However, Rahul was the best part of the whole experience. He had the whole floor by himself and he was soo attentive and kept every table super clean. I hope when I bring my husband we sit with rahul! Can’t wait to come back!

I recently visited this newly opened Japanese restaurant, and I can honestly say it’s one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in Nashville. You can really feel the love and effort that went into every detail—from the beautiful interior design to the thoughtfully crafted dishes. The Ube Colada cocktail was especially memorable—refreshing, smooth, and perfectly balanced. Every dish we tried was delicious, and it’s clear that quality ingredients and passion are behind the menu. I’m sure this place will soon become a go-to spot in town. Highly recommend it for anyone looking for authentic flavors and a warm, inviting atmosphere!

I have worked as a sales person in a Japanese food wholesaler and have visited many sushi places before. Now I am not working in this field any more. I traveled Nashville for a business trip and visited this restaurant because their sushi and dish quality looks pretty good and price reasonable. I ordered an octopus appetizer and sushi combo. The dish quality was awesome compared to its price and sushi quality was really good too. In this price, usually restaurant uses frozen tuna but they use a fresh tuna and sushi quality was really good too. I usually don't go to a typical cheap sushi restaurant because I had lots of sushi when I worked as a sales person. If I taste rice, I know the quality right away because of my experience. I really enjoyed my dinner and would like to recommend you visit here ASAP before they raise the price. It is worth it.

I am a resident of Orlando, Florida, and I recently visited a place called Maru while on a business trip here in Nashville. If anyone reads this post, I highly recommend you come and try it! The part that impressed me the most--though it seems very simple but is often overlooked in many Japanese restaurants--is that the seaweed used in the sushi actually smells and tastes like fresh seaweed. I was so curious that I asked the server, and they confirmed that the restaurant uses a very high-quality type of nori (seaweed). The wasabi is also incredibly delicious. It's not made from powdered wasabi; it's fresh, so even eating it alone isn't overly spicy and has a subtle sweet note. When paired with the sushi, it beautifully refreshes the palate. The rice was perfectly cooked. It wasn't sticky; the grains were just chewy enough, and it was seasoned perfectly, without tasting oily or overly salty. The chef seemed to focus on making sure the finish (aftertaste) was bright and refreshing. I ordered a variety of menu items, and each dish had a pleasant, crisp finish, allowing us to fully enjoy the food without getting tired of the taste. Because of this, my wife and I ended up ordering too many dishes! Have you ever tried fried kale with sashimi? You absolutely must try it here. I learned for the first time that day that kale could be this delicious and pair so wonderfully with sushi. The Ramen was also special. Japanese ramen is usually seasoned to flavor the noodles, not necessarily for drinking the broth, which often leaves the soup too salty for my taste--a shame because I love broth. However, the ramen here is not salty. I could drink every drop of the soup. The broth was clear, clean, and has a taste that I know I'll miss. I hope many people visit this place to experience the flavors. The interior design was also wonderful. It was cozy and clean, giving couples and partners a warm, comfortable, and peaceful feeling. If you get the chance, I recommend coming in the evening and checking out the moon installation in the hallway leading to the restrooms. Thank you so much for the delicious food.

We have been to the Maru east location more than 10 times and love it for great quality sushi and friendly service but the atmosphere isn't the most special. We live close to Wedgewood so we were excited to try this location that recently opened, and it did not disappoint! Service was fantastic and the inside felt really upscale and had great vibes. The gyoza and Japanese fried chicken were both great albeit not mind blowing. The sushi was the star of the show which is the same for their location in east Nashville. The playboy and shrimp tempura we would happily order again! We are excited to come back and try more small plates and different sushi rolls soon. Great addition to the neighborhood.

If you want your fresh sushi drenched in sauces to the point where you can't taste anything but that, come here. This is honestly a disservice to sushi. When we asked for a refill of our sake, they didn't have a cold bottle to offer us. Additionally, service was terrible. They are clearly understaffed and we waited at least 30 min or more for them to make us a secondary roll after we waited 30 min for our original order. They apologized, but offered nothing to make up for this extreme waste of time. Ambiance was basic, cold and industrial. For a $240 meal that included a 20% tax (which we are still trying to figure out), I've had better value, quality, and service at 888 or elsewhere -- you could easily do better for cheaper and cozier at other places. Pass for me. Won't be back.

I was really excited to try this place. Visiting from California for a few weeks and I took a gamble with a 5star with only 2 reviews, but I'm a sushi connoisseur and a risk taker. The ambience was nice, newer modern feel in an upcoming east Nashville area. The place was relatively empty, a man at the bar, a girl at the other ends and two hotties having dinner at a table. Not a good sign. I sat at a table my back to a bench seat. Service was fast and cordial. My server a young man with a great attitude but a little green. First up, I order some yellowtail carpaccio, the young man advises of a special item, baby yellowtail in a ginger ponzu sauce, I am glad he did, because it was to die for. I'd come back just for that dish. See pic. I also ordered some chicken and some yakitori, some different nigiri and a roll. Now at this point you may ask, White, if it was soo good why 3 stars? Good question. I ordered my go to faves, nigiri of yellowtail, salmon, and tuna. I also ordered the Baja roll just to have some filler and something with spice. I was expecting The nigiri to be fresh cuts of fish on top of sushi rice, however they came with different sauces, toppings and even seared with mayo on top. I asked the young man, why it was served like that and his response was the chef likes to give it to you with different options as he likes. I was not happy, I love just the fish and may some slight soy or a little wasabi but this way no good and it was ruined. Unfortunately the young man forgot to place my chicken yakitori order so I never got it and I was looking forward to trying it. I asked the young man how long they have been opened he said 1 month. I kindly shared some feedback about the food and let him know they will need to do better if they expect repeat customers and to stand out in a very foodie city like Nashville. The fact that the kid didn't even offer to take some of items off the bill or maybe a dessert tells me they still haven't learned the most important lesson in restauranting, happy customers, make repeat customers. This place has a lot of work to do but I would say give them a try and let's see if my experience was an anomaly and I was just an unfortunate victim of new growing pains. I had the best sushi lunch date here! I ordered the Salmon roll and Captains Secret! The captain secret might be the best sushi I've had in my life. The ingredients were so fresh and the roll was flavorful. My husband had the hot night roll as well as a roll that had scallops on top. The Hot night roll was our fav of the two. Drink wise, the espresso martini, grapefruit soju and the lemon drop martini were all phenomenal! The service was great and our waiter was attentive and helpful. The restaurant was clean, neat and pretty empty for a Friday lunch. Anytime I am here I will come back!

5/5... this place is fresh, it's clean, it's classy and the owner Rita is customer oriented as it should be. It felt great to know the service industry is not dead. Let's start with the delicious food we got. We started with Crispy Rice. Wow, they were amazing. They have little gold flakes that make it look cute. The Tonkatsu ramen was very good. It was missing something in the flavor but it was still delicious. The sushi rolls were delicious and balanced. We honestly loved the place and definitely will come back. They do offer lunch specials we will be checking out soon!

what a hidden gem... no really, we had trouble even finding it! as you can see the presentation was stunning and they blew away my expectations. it was dead inside when we went and after dining here i was shocked that was so. i'd love to come back!

I ordered takeout and overall had a solid experience. The albacore roll was the highlight -- really flavorful and fresh. The rice portion felt a bit small (I'd have liked a little more to balance things). The bok choy side was decent -- not huge, but just right as a complement. Prices were moderate -- nothing outrageous. I'd definitely go back to try more from the menu.

This place is a hidden gem!! The food was FANTASTIC the chef came out to explain some dishes. The bartender was amazing!! Fantastic ambience, food, and service. If you're in the area definitely check it out!!!

Sushi was amazing. Relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. I asked for recommendations and tried everything they suggested. It was all excellent. I would eat it every day if I could afford it... but it's worth the price.

This place is not to be slept on. We have tried dozens of sushi restaurants in Nashville, and this one surprised us. The atmosphere is great--it's brand new, clean, and sleek. We tried an assortment of dishes across the menu, which is also quite vast. The crispy rice was hands down our favorite rendition of this dish in the city. The bulgogi surprised us as well and tasted more authentic than other versions we've had in Nashville. I was particularly impressed with the Nigiri, which is on a short list of my favorite bites of sushi I've ever had (a list that includes Michelin star sushi bars). Lastly, the owner Rita is wonderful. She brought us complimentary matcha ice cream, which was the perfect finale of a wonderful dining experience.
