Marugame Udon - Review - London - The Infatuation

"Of all the overseas chains opening in London to much fanfare, Marugame Udon is the most welcome and best value of the lot. The Japanese udon chain is in Liverpool Street, The O2, and will soon be in Oxford Street as well. All welcome places for hand-pulled udon costing around £3. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

The Best-Value Cheap Restaurants In East London - London - The Infatuation

"Of all the overseas chains opening in London to much fanfare, Marugame Udon is the most welcome and best value of the lot. The Japanese udon chain’s Liverpool Street location offers handmade udon starting at around £3. Slide your tray around the cafeteria-style setup while telling the chefs what noodles and toppings you're after, go past the heat lamp glow of tempura, grab a drink, and pay up." - Team Infatuation

Marugame Udon Puts Liverpool Street Japanese Restaurant on the Menu | Eater London

"A major Japanese udon chain making its long-awaited U.K. debut with a 4,000 sq ft Liverpool Street site, replacing the Wahaca at the listed address. The operator, which runs over 1,000 restaurants in Japan, emphasizes sanuki udon tradition using proprietary machines designed to mimic the hand-kneading and shaping process. Its menu centers on two classics—kamaage udon (served in a communal pot with a dipping dashi) and kake udon (served in a hot kakejiru broth of dashi, soy and mirin)—with customizable add-ons such as tempura, chicken and pork katsu, and onsen eggs, plus a self-service condiment bar the company bills as “iconic.” The concept follows a Japanese cafeteria model (no table service, noodles boiled to order) for quick service, positioning it to appeal to U.K. diners already invested in noodle culture and to expand into vacated larger restaurant spaces amid the coronavirus-driven market shift." - James Hansen

The food is fresh, delicious and filling. You get a big portion even with the regular sized meal and might have some to still takeaway. What makes this place stand out is the quality of food and the attentiveness of the restaurant to anticipated customer needs at their add on station with sauces and other herbs as well as takeaway boxes. Bathrooms were also clean upon my visit to this branch. Would definitely recommend!

The food was great, I had the beef Udon noodles and they were very good! Service was really good as well. Only thing, they kept a door open to the outside and it was really windy in London that weekend. 😬

First time visiting—and I’ll definitely be coming back! I really enjoyed my experience at Marugame Udon on Middlesex Street. The layout of the restaurant is great, and I liked the way you can pick exactly what you want as you move along. The menu has loads of appealing options. The food was fresh, tasty, and served quickly. Portion sizes were generous, and everything was hot and well-prepared. Staff were friendly and polite, which added to the overall positive vibe. A great first impression—I’ll definitely return.

The food is here is terrible. Cold noodles and cold tempura. I didnt even really feel like the staff cared tbh. Please avoid. There are other noodle places near liverpool street that are better.

Went to this branch for the first time, it appeared to be a nice place. This branch is just a few minutes away from Liverpool Street station which was very convenient. Staffs were nice and food is same in every branches, very good. The staff also offered a small glass to drink water which I hadn’t experienced in other branches before and I think this should be implemented in all other branches. I think Marugame should open more branches across London. Thank you.

One of the best places i have tried in London. Food/menu is simple yet so tasty. Service is super quick and staff are friendly! The environment is also very nicely decorated/aesthetic. Great food! Enjoyed a lot!

Wanted late night dinner after exploring London & Marugame stood out! We were starving & didn’t really want a slow sit down vibe type of place. Loved the cafeteria style eating! You order & grab what you want, pay & sit down! Seems like a well thought out system. You can grab exactly what you want yourself- no room for ordering errors. Super easy & fast but delicious! Loved the clearly marked vegan choices. The clearly marked vegan selections made it easy to grab! Everything was fresh & made to order. The portions were large & filling. The vegan tofu noodle dish was super flavorful & saucy. The veggies were fresh as well.
