Very good ice cream with great innovative mix-ins filled ice creams, generous serving sizes , ample toppings and low prices ($6 for two large scoops). New UMD students get a free scoop. They also have regular flavors and a few vegan options. They also sell milkshakes (3-scoop), sundaes and have pints/quarts and gallon sized containers for sale. It is located inside the Stamp building. Strongly recommend. I got the 1856 (strawberry with vanilla sponge cake, incredible) and Lori's legacy (double chocolate with ganache, also incredible).

Excellent ice cream and even better service. Kevin was super nice and passionate about the ice cream, which comes in a variety of creamy flavors with generous mix ins. A must have in STAMP and a place that is a special part of the Maryland campus.

A lot of different flavors that taste great together

I love Maryland Dairy. They have unique and awesome ice cream flavors. It is not that expensive and very good quality ice cream. If you are ever near the stamp or at the stamp you should definitely get Maryland Dairy.

Just had the best milkshake of my life. I asked for a cherry milkshake. The nice guy helping me told me he wanted to show me something. Made me a sample spoon with three other flavors and told me not to baby it. My mouth was in heaven. He gave me an extra scoop in there for free with three other flavors I hadn’t even thought about. He also put three cherries on there. It was amazing. I cannot recommend stopping by enough, as the staff seems to actually be happy working there. That’s always a good sign. They’ll make you have a great day.

Great staff always nice and friendly. Ice cream selection much better than your regular ice cream shop! Lory’s legacy is one of the best chocolate ice cream you can have so give that a try if you’re a chocolate enthusiast like me

I tried to get a scoop after my tour of UMD and they refused to serve me because of my allergy to nuts. Almost all other ice cream shops I’ve ever been to can open an untouched tub and wash a scoop and I’m fine. How can a campus brag about their homemade ice cream and then not accommodate students? It doesn’t give me hope for the way they treat kids with allergies through the whole school.

Classic ice cream spot on the UMD campus where you order at the ice cream bar and can sit in the communal food court area. The ice cream doesn't have a strong flavor but more so focuses on a milk/creamy texture. I've heard the milk is from the cows on campus so that's pretty cool. Service staff was kind with the samples too.

Honestly, the hype is real for this spot! I first heard about it from my wife's coworker, and we decided to check it out while my mother-in-law was in town. If you're a student at the University of Maryland in College Park, this place is super accessible. If you're not affiliated with the university, I recommend visiting on a Sunday afternoon, like we did--parking was free that day. To make things easy, park in the lot closest to the Stamp Student Union building. Park on the top floor, and you can walk directly into the building from there. The ice cream was fresh and absolutely delicious, with a wide variety of flavors to choose from. Each of us tried different scoops, and every single one was good. I don't eat ice cream often, but this was worth the trip. I even ended up finishing the rest of my daughter's scoop (she had her fill, so I happily helped out)!

I'm a Terp Alum, I am biased. Great ice cream that helped me survived many finals and many difficult times in school. Last weekend was Maryland day and I got to visit and have their "Fear the turtle" ice cream and "Kermit's kiss" milk shake, still the same goodness - creamy, rich, and perfect sweetness. I'd recommend if you visit the campus, especially in the summer. The flavors are developed by student ice cream club and they have special seasonal flavors that is pretty interesting.

When we went to the University of Maryland over the weekend, we had ice cream from the cafeteria, and they told us that it was made in the university, and it was delicious.

The flavors were outstanding. I had a Trespresso and Fear the Turtle and would happily go back for more. I sampled a few others and can honestly say that there weren't any bad ones in the bunch. The two behind the counter were patient and efficient. Allowing everyone to ask questions and sample what they liked. To find it as soon as you walk into the Stamp go downstairs into the food court. You'll find the Dairy at the back. The missing star came from it closing so early in the day and apparently not having weekend hours.

I've heard good things about Maryland Dairy, and it didn't disappoint - the ice cream is really good. I tried the 1856 (strawberry with sponge cake) and sapienza (vanilla with chocolate chips, brownie, chocolate swirl, etc.). Both were super yummy. The price point is also reasonable at $3.99 for a scoop, and that much definitely fills you up. Service is nothing to rave about - just your typical college ice cream shop. Maryland Dairy is located inside the Stamp student union building at UMD. Would definitely recommend stopping by if you're in the area or visiting campus!

I needed a little afternoon pick-me-up, and spotted this place inside the student center. Since ice cream is my favorite dessert to exist, I knew I had to stop by for a scoop. The shop is quite small so you really just order and leave, but there's plenty of seating in the area outside. We got a scoop of the mint chocolate chip. The single scoop was huge! Definitely could qualify as a double in other places. The ice cream itself was really thick, smooth, and creamy. I loved the texture and flavor, and there were also plenty of chocolate chips mixed within. So good, and friendly employees too!

This location is inside a food court at the Student Center building at University of Maryland. The logistics of coming here not as a student already on campus are a lot tougher than we had prepared for. We ended up leaving the car idling by the main entrance, which I'm very sure we shouldn't have done. We consulted the directory and realized the place was downstairs and way down on the other end of the building. They make their own ice cream, and their flavor selection was a lot better than what they had listed online. The only problem was that they had recently restocked a number of their flavors, including my first two choices. If you see the cap still covering a flavor, it means the drum is still too frozen for them to scoop. The ice cream we got was delicious, and reasonably priced. Great place to go once you figure out getting there.

It's located in the Stamp student union, past the food court. Stephen was very polite, patient and we got excellent service. I got the double chocolate Icecream (4.5/5) great flavor of chocolate and it's very lite. I also got the strawberry and vanilla mix (4.5/5), it has a very subtle flavor of both and a great combination. Parking is a problem though. It's always paid when the shop is open.

My friend and I were just checking out the UMD campus and stumbled across Maryland Dairy since we were craving something sweet after walking around. I gotta say, having an ice cream shop that's affordable in the student union is pretty nice. We both shared a scoop of the "Fear the Turtle" flavor. It's pretty delicious and for a huge scoop, it was only about $3.50 after tax! The ice cream wasn't too sweet and I could taste the caramel and chocolate swirls easily. Additionally, the pecans are a nice touch. This scoop of ice cream was basically "Butter Pecan". Overall, I'd recommend trying this flavor if you're interested in something nutty!

Freshly made ice cream straight from the cows at an accredited university? YES PLEASE! Ice cream is my weakness, but good ice cream is hard to come by. Maryland Dairy at UMD produces fine quality ice cream products sourced locally from their own cows. How many colleges or places can say that? It's additionally student run; it's a whole community here and everyone is helping each other out. College students work while providing top notch ice cream where we know how the cows are treated and raised. Not to mention, the texture is something I'm big on with ice cream. I normally prefer gelato due to its thick consistency, but Maryland Dairy doesn't skimp. Their flavor/topping choices and consistency is incredible. Pros is you can purchase pints plus they have a stall at their football games (less flavor options there but still, OH YES YUM!) I prefer the flavors, "Fear the Turtle" and "Terpresso" I have to try more. Keep up the good work, I'll be back for more soon!

I bought chocolate flavors the taste was great. And the staffs were friendly. I recommend it to everyone who tastes it.

UMD tour highlight. We did a campus tour and got a voucher for a free scoop. The ice cream is as good as they say. Super rich and creamy with creative and delicious flavors. Coffee was our favorite. I wish I lived closer. If you're on a campus tour...I highly recommend. If you go to UMD, you're lucky...I'd have this ice cream for breakfast.

**Confessions of a Terp** Dear Dairy, Ice Cream has been a part of Maryland since 1924, yet sadly enough, Yelp does not mention your famous presence at the University of Maryland! Well so here I am, writing a review for you, dear dairy. I am sure you have stolen a million hearts and accumulated even more fans over the past 80 years or so! So far, I have not heard of a single 'true' terp who does not love UMD ice cream! It is made in Maryland, and lovingly sold by you. Conveniently located at the UMD visitor center, you are by far the best companion/place to hang out with on a lazy summer afternoon. You have amazing specialty flavors, honoring many terp traditions and people. The latest is the 'Mote Choco-moco-Latte' dedicated to President Mote who retires this year! They add new flavors almost every year, my favorites are the 'final exam cram' and 'midnight madness'..!! You are a delightful old fashioned place with benches outside, nice warm people and a clean interior. When people attend an orientation session for UMD, you are the first place they eat on campus! So all you people reading this, head to my dear Dairy the first thing tomorrow..!! I will miss you dear dairy immensely.. sigh!

Ice cream is delicious. Where else can you get "Fear the Turtle" and "Sasho's Crunch"? Still waiting for the Duke Sucks flavor. Go Terps!!!!!!

I highly recommend this ice cream. Ever since I tasted it at the Hollywood Farmers market last year I am hooked. My whole family loves this cream and we each have our favorites. We all love the Fearless Ideas flavor. There are so many flavors and they are all delicious. This was one of my treats that I missed during COVID.

this is only based on first impressions they are really tiny and hidden in the back of the food court. there's a decent selection of flavors. However, as someone with a peanut allergy I was very disappointed. I was given a chart saying the only flavors without peanuts were vanilla, and strawberry. Bro it said plain chocolate had peanut problems!!! the staff acted like they didn't know how to accommodate a peanut allergy. The vanilla I got tasted bland and my cake cone wasn't firm enough to hold the ice cream. I'm going to umd for undergrad so I'll give y'all another chance

I've had a lot of ice cream, like a lot, and this is easily some of the best I've ever had. I got the single scoop of cookies and cream. Prefect amount of cookies, perfect in general. Do yourself a favor and come here!

Absolutely love Maryland Dairy. The milk/cream used in the ice cream is locally sourced, which adds so much culture to this Terrapin favorite! There's several fun, UMD themed ice cream flavors to choose from with lots of add ins... they're all so creamy. You can also indulge in a sundae, banana split, root beer float, or milkshake and there's honestly no going wrong with whatever you pick.

Where was this when I was a college student?! My only Maryland Dairy fix at that time was the north campus diner and the commons shop! This hot new location on the food court level of stamp is pumping out ready to order house made ice cream! I got a chance to try a generous, whooping scoop of the strawberry flavor for free at Maryland Day! Long lines do pay off! Also, I bought my very own terpin durkin scoop and it was filled with cold, creamy and crunchy goodness with a good balance of sweetness from the ice cream and saltiness from the chocolate covered pretzels. To add to this cup of magic, I also got a chance to meet the awesome coach that day! Talk about good ice cream and UMD spirit! Go Maryland!!

By far the best ice cream I have ever tried in my life. Flavors like Cookies and cream are absolutely packed with oreos. Turge Turtle Crunch, one of their well known flavors, is packed with cookies similar to vanilla oreos. The ice cream is so fresh and homemade. Second best in the entire state of Maryland with the first being the Annapolis Ice Cream Company.

They are open now. We visited today. Amazing ice cream and a reasonable price. Super nice folks at the counter. Look forward to being back again. One small caveat, there is only one entrance to the STAMP student union building which is open currently. It is right opposite where some construction is going on. Look for it.

Good prices and HUGE serving size (be aware!!!!) but in my opinion - way too sweet. I've tried several different flavors so far, and after eating each of them I felt overwhelmed after (or even while) eating the ice-cream. I guess it's more a personal taste as the place seem to be very popular! Maybe a solution (at least for myself) is taking the kids size. I should remember it for my next visit :)

In the 70s, long before fancy ice cream brands, the Dairy at the University of Maryland was the place to go. It was near Richie Colosseum by Route 1. I haven't been back since I graduated and just thought it was gone. While walking in the Student Union, I was pleasantly surprise that a shop existed. I was happy to savor it again 30 years later.

This is some of the best ice cream I have had in this country/world. Until I had the ice cream here I would have said that Haagen Daz was the best ice cream that I've had in the US. I know that this may sound odd, but the best ice-cream I have had in the world comes from unsanitary street carts in India. The ice cream from there has a softness that is similar to true Italian gelato. The UMD dairy ice-cream combines the softness of gelato with an additional richness component due to higher fat and milk solid content. Do not miss the opportunity to try this place. I'm even tempted to give them my first 5 star review (for food). But I'm still holding out.

After two months at UMD I finally ventured to the dairy with my lab. I was surprised at the size of the place as I had originally thought it was just a small ice cream shop attached to the visitor center. To my surprise the place is large with a ton of seating and even serves food and coffee in addition to the famous ice cream. I am a person who is absolutely terrible at making decisions. So of course this plus the fact that every flavor looked delicious and the flavors had no descriptions meant standing in front of the case debating within my mind for an obscene amount of time. I finally decided to just get what I usually get at ice cream places, plain coffee ice cream. The ice cream was good of course, what isn't good when it has 14% milk fat in it? I also tried a few bites of two other flavors. One was some kind of play on rocky road (had rocky in the name...don't remember the name exactly though) and it had nice chunks of add ins but it was so sweet that there was no way I could eat more than a few spoonfuls. I also tried a friends rainbow sherbet. I am a huge fan of sherbet but this combination was just plain weird. Individually, the orange, raspberry, and line flavors were all really good but together, not so much. Overall, I think this place is more of a novelty and a tradition for students. Personally, I'll stick to froyo.

How can you not give this 5 stars. If it isn't the best ice cream I've ever had, it's right up there. Not to mention they can't sell this stuff outside of the university because the milkfat content is too high. More fat isn't always better but when you're talking ice cream, it makes a huge difference. The butter pecan is my favorite.

Responsible, in part, for the Freshman 15 - it's really, really good ice cream. My absolute favorite was always the pumpkin spice ice cream. My roommate and I would save it in our freezer for as long as we could!

AMAZING ice cream! HORRIBLE communication skills. Google page as well as official UMD page says that the dairy is open until 8:30 pm Monday-Friday, but when you get to the dairy the doors are closed and it says open until 5. Terribly disappointed, I've been craving UMD ice cream for a while. Now my tummy is sad and without ice cream. Please fix this ASAP, I left a note at the closed door too much love to UMD dairy, just said that I can't have it:(

As an ice cream connoisseur I can say with confidence that this is one of the best ice creams I have ever had. After finishing a tour with my daughter in the hot sun this was a perfect place to cool down and have some delicious ice cream. Turge Turtle Crunch, the flavor I tried is for anyone who likes EVERYTHING!! The turpresso was amazing too. Great texture and flavor. A must stop when at UMaryland!! PS-the price was right at only $3 for a (big)small cup.

I've been coming here off and on since my undergraduate days. I wish I didn't live on the other side of the country since this ice cream is always fresh and a welcomed treat. Ice cream has a way of making the day better, so if you are in need of a break stop by and enjoy yourself at this iconic spot.

Less than 2 to 3 weeks ago, I had some ice cream from the Maryland Dairy within the Adele H Stamp Student Union building (on the University of Maryland College Park campus), and ordered a two scoop icecream option. The person serving me the icecream was actually super nice to me and made me feel welcome there and was pretty fair in how much I was charged for the two scoop icecream. Both scoops tasted delish, with one of the icecream scoops being a Jordan Almond (a delish almost praline, butter pecan type of earthy almond icecream flavor) with the other scoop being called 1856 or was it called 1836 (a delicious strawberry shortcake tasting icecream).

This is a must visit when you are near College Park. Fresh, rich, and full of fat, the way ice cream should be, and you get to check out co-eds while you're there.
