Mary's Bar-B-Que

Believe it or not I've been strolling up and down pulaski past Mary's my whole life. I would always smell that great BBQ Smoke everytime I was near. I always wanted to try their food and I finally did! Had a few items, Gryo Burger (first time having one) would be a nice little snack if i was short for time, Hot Links which Remind me of spicey breakfast sausage and A Large Order Of Rib Tips! The tips are great. I dont think I ever Tasted such a Rich BBQ Flavor in meat before. I will definitely be back for the tips! Let's see what else I can find on that menu I can enjoy.

This is not the same Mary's. You have to order online and a truck comes and delivers the food and puts it in a locker. You don't know where it's made or where it's coming from. The food doesn't taste the same. These are not the same owners and if it is it's a shame. This business won't last long being greedy and cutting corners. I really liked this lace when it was on Pulaski. A loyal customer. I don't know what this is but it's not right.

I Absolutely Hate writing bad reviews especially when an establishment is Black owned, but I must. I called at 6:58 p.m. a female answered the phone and I said what I wanted to order, I did not get a response acknowledging my order and suddenly I heard laughing and talking in the background; I said hello and still nothing. I hung up and called back 20 times (I know...20...only because my guest wanted rib tips - I'm a vegetarian) and I kept getting a message that the mailbox is full. Needless to say, I did not get an opportunity to order and this is a sad example of poor customer service and bad business regardless of how good the food may be.

The food is amazing. I know it's not heaven working in hospitality but if the employees at this place would smile more and have more attention with customers it would go a long way. Literally would get the place 5 starts without hesitation. But some workers are there for a paycheck and really look like they're forced to be there.

Just ordered a small tip... nice portion for the money but the food wasn’t hot... even though I ordered over the phone and waited about 10 minutes upon arrival ... my food wasn’t even warm.. other than that tips are tender but could be marinated more... sauce is okay... definitely not a go to spot... just having a taste for ribs on a Sunday night and they were still open....

I just recently started eating here a week ago to be exact and I am in love with this place. Food is ALWAYS good everytime I order. I always order through UberEats and my order is always correct even with all my special instructions. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

This place has an awesome chopped steak burger. So good and worth the wait. My friend got impatient and asked if they can hurry up. Since it was my food, I ran up to then and told them to take their time. Lol

I went here last Friday for to eat for my birthday on my way home. I stop because I had not eating here since I was 16 we place our order waited for 45mins. Before give us the food the lady say you ask for this and that we say yes. I get on the Dan Ryan start to eat and the food all wrong. I call and say it messed up the say yes old girl did that. What your name we got you ok cool get home and the other part of the order messed up call back tell them again he say ok I already got you down. I pull up today to collect on my meal they say I don't have you down. Never, never ever again. Made me look bad because she wanted to get the tips and steak sandwich for south and I said no we going to get it her. Bad point of that birthday.

Saturday evening I was visiting a friend that just moved to the area and smelled the aroma of BBQ, I immediately had to try it. Let me say I consider myself a BBQ master. During the summer I grill every weekend...low and slow is my motto so I know good BBQ. My friend doesn't eat pork so she had chicken wings, fried hard. She said they were good. She liked the fact that they weren't the big steroid pieces. I ordered a tip and link combo with hot and mild sauce. It was the best that I've eaten from a restaurant in years. They were perfectly seasoned with just enough sauce...speaking of sauce, it's definitely the boss. I really like the way they cut their meat. I don't like it when restaurants give me big chunks and its hard to bite. This place gives you a lot of meat that's cut to enjoy. The workers were friendly and seemed to be having a good time. We parked in the back parking lot, we were a bit nervous going back to the car because of the lighting which is why I didn't give them 5 stars. I think they need more lights in the parking lot. I'm not saying it's dark but more lights would have made us feel safer considering we're new to scene. I'll definitely go, just next time park in the front unless there's more lights.

Love the food especially the rib tips and my mother loves the food also, this place is a blessing

My original review factored in the rude and disrespectful manager's treatment of customers. It's been a few years so I decided to try again. This time I ordered delivery via DoorDash. Hopefully, they've reprioritized customer service. I remembered the rib tips being better, but these were solid. 3.09 stars.

Marys is definitely in the hood... But I always feel safe there... The rib tips /hotlinks combination is my fave. Tender and fresh/point of purchase Prep... barbecue sauce is fabulous... I like hot and mild mix!! The employees are always so kind and funny... Please tip them!!

They are no longer in business at this location. If they moved, where to. I've been buying their food since the '70s when they were located at 16th and Lawndale.

Never again , this place is disgusting and to top it off over priced . Delivery was late 3 missing meals . Links and ribtips were dry not enough sauce. Save your $$ this place is garbage....

My food was burnt. When they were on Pulaski and 5th the food was bomb. Not sure what happen during the change of location. Food just doesn't taste the same.

Old skool classic. Rib tips aren't very meaty but the sauce and what's on the bone is good. Be prepared to wait. Wings are good as well. Husband likes the links get them cut small. They have burgers and hot dogs etc. but the ribs and links is what most people come for. Fries are really good and covered with the sauce.

I ordered rib tips about a month ago they were all bone no meat so I decided I wouldn't eat here anymore but I forgot and I ordered a order of chicken wings the wings were very small and the fries were so hard

My very first time ordering from this place. My delivery was through door dash. I ordered a combo ribs and wings. I got another order of ribs also. I called them to let them know that I did not have my wings. Instantly the lady on the phone said "I remember your order you ordered two large tips."I told her no. It was a combination with ribs and another order of rib tips.She told me that I need to calm down. Then she also said I dont know what is wrong with these people. Very unprofessional. Food was okay. But I will not order there again.

The service sucked let me start off by saying that . Everything that I requested I had an attitude by one particular worker at every step . Not everyone there was like that though . One particular worker recommend their cheesecake stating it tasted like Eli's . My fish deluxe was tasty and the fries were good they could have put some more mild sauce on them though . The chicago style hotdog was good as well . My family had the rib tips and links and they quickly finished their plate .

Delicious. Hands down the best bbq on the west side. In the city period . Lots of flavor, no fat, sauce is very tasty - no "out of the bottle /store bought" taste. sauce taste is made with sweet tangy smoky flavors

I wrote a review and not sure but I no longer see it. I was a loyal customer of Mary's. Me and my boyfriend used to go all the time before Covid. Never understood the change in format of the restaurant seeing how it was always pick up and meaning little to no contact with customers anyway before Covid. Now at the new address you order online first and then pick it up in a locker. Idk. I don't like the idea of not knowing where my food is coming from or who's preparing it. I don't even think it's owned by the same people. I'll find a new favorite spot bc there are good bar b que spots that I don't have to go to a locker to pick up food. It's crazy.

This is the most horrible barbecue I have ever tasted in my life. I mean like really!!! I payed $40 for a large tips & combo tips. There were Barely barbecue sauce on the food it was vary Thin ant watery. I could not even taste seasoning on the meat. Now the size was a size large but the food awful I really do mean awful.

I haven't been to Mary's in years but tonight I understand why. I ordered 8 wings after waiting nearly 10 minutes to be greeted by the two guys taking orders at the window. My food was done in a timely manner and I was excited because it's cold out. However I got home to discover my wings were wrapped together without a serving tray, just in the white paper that normally covers the food and the tray itself. And as if that was not enough i was served old chicken that had been reheated hince the quick turnaround time and some warm fries. I won't be going back because that shows you don't value me as a consumer when you're sitting in my neighborhood.

Customer Service: Bland. The young girls need to be trained on how to work the front end. Be nice and offer up. I walked up to the counter and the two girls continued to ignore me while doing nothing touching surfaces or items like they were preparing an order but in all actuality just killing time to avoid taking my order. TIP: As soon as a customer step up, ask to be of assistance or say one moment please. Not look at them and then turn your backs cause that will make them take their money down to Coleman's. (Customer Service goes a long way). Price: expensive Food Quality: Decent, a lil fat, a lot of meat but tough gristle. Food Quantity: ok. I guess a large can feed 2 hungry folks. Sauce: Always the boss, saucy!!!

Horrible customer service and Uber delivery! The place does not care if you're a satisfied customer or not. They want your money and deliver the most inferior product. Yes, I've been a patron since the early 80's when Mary was actually present in the place. Today is not the day and I will never patronize this garbage food again!

It's good food but the lady at the front and the one who answers the phone is so nasty and rude it makes you not want to spend you money here. How does she still have a job. I rather have just okay food with people treating nice vs good food and bad service. I57 is just as good if not better an they are a lot nicer

I've been to Mary's and I couldn't be more pleased. I've told all my friends what great food they have and you don't have to wait long for it.Great job continues the good work

A great place for ribtips,smoked fresh, daily, 1968 -2018 50 yrs still going strong, also great steak sanwich, and footlong polish,also great chicken wings. ,ive been a customer for 25 yrs, great family buisness, owner chris , should be on ,chicagos best, with walter patons daughter :) god bless many more years in chicagos future, happy 50 yrs marys bbq....

This is my rib tip go to place! I absolutely love them. I've never had anything else from them. You can call ahead so you won't have wait long once you get there or you can have it delivered via Ubereats

had this place bookmarked for a longggggg time.. but i finally came to try it... I came here at a weekend night and there was no line there... the place is like a shack... no chairs no tables.. u just order your food outside and leave.. the lady taking my order has attitude problems haha like dam women! what did I do to you? Im just hungry and trying to order my food and gtfo haha anyways.. I ordered a small rib tip.. it was average I guess.. the meat was a bit dry and there wasn't much smoky taste to it.. the sauce was on the sweeter side.. it was decent.. but to me it wasn't worth the trip coming back here..

Have you ever been driving and found yourself so distracted by the smell of barbecue that you almost wrecked your car trying to locate the source? If so, consider yourself forewarned if you find yourself driving along this stretch of Pulaski. Having almost killed my husband and myself driving by this place, I was determined to see if their cue was really worth nearly killing the both of us for. The answer - absolutely!* We ventured here today, hit the highlights, and left very happy, very stuffed customers and new fans of Mary's. Open since 1968, this is your new favorite barbecue place that you never knew existed. Wings - crisp, juicy, moist, NOT greasy, not at all. I love these wings - add some hot sauce and you are ready to go. Before proceeding further, you should know that I'm of the "Sauce hides a multitude of sins as well as the flavor" school of barbecue. If barbecue can't stand up on it's own without the sauce, it's not barbecue at all, so I ordered our tips/links combo sans sauce. Tips - nice smoke ring, good chew, rich porky flavor, good even without the sauce. Honest tips, my friends, honest tips. My generally mild mannered and very picky eater husband ordered me to step away from the tips as he decided they were all for him, high praise, indeed. Links...oh my! VERY spicy, absolutely speckled with flecks of pepper, great texture, nice snap, quite good. This carnivore says "more, please." We also tried a cup of their highly touted chili - while quite good, I think I caught it on a thin day as it wasn't quite as thick as I like, but chili is like the weather and changes from day to day, so I'll definitely try it again. Served properly, with white bread and soggy fries, this place does barbeque right. The default sauce is a bit sweet for my tastes, but apparently they have a great hot sauce that you have to specifically request. Do it. Their motto is "Where the sauce is boss and every bone is well worth eating." How can you NOT put a motto like that to the test? Strictly Chicago style barbecue (aquarium smoker, tips/links/wings, no full sized slabs here), but they do it very, very well. No frills, you dine ala Trunk here as there is no seating (no inside in fact, you order through a window). Amazingly nice staff, friendly patrons, inexpensive...I command thee, Barbecue Lovers, eat at Mary's and show these terrific people some love. *There are those that would argue that my life is worthless under any circumstances, a sentiment that I, at times, fully appreciate and enthusiastically endorse, but this is a review of a barbecue place and a discussion on the actual value of my life would be inappropriate here. Catch me at an event after I've got a few in me and I'll gladly debate it then.

We are working our way through South Side BBQ joints....Mary's..yum. Rib Tips, wings, sauce, french fries...all in a brown bag. How can you go wrong? Rib tips and chicken wings are excellent. Also, don't know how the fries are made, but, damn, they are good. Is it beef fat, goose tallow, duck lard, deer antler? Dunno. But tasty num nums. Mary's, by the way, is all outside. Don't come here expecting to sit down, silly. Order, wait (under those really bright lights that attract the moths) and move on. As did the woman who came from Belmont and Cicero, biding her time, chatting with my husband (as I waited in the car, listening to the Cubs lose again. Yes, Mary's is worth the gas money, and yes, go ahead and give me a hard time about the Cubs. I'm used to it.) Oh, and the sauce is good, but for me, it's a bit mild and sweet. I like a little more kick (think Rudy's from Austin) but that is purely a personal preference. All in all, if you drive away with a bag of food from Mary's, you will be happy. And isn't that what we're all aiming for?

Food was pretty good, just need to either upgrade/remodel and or change location. The environment sucks. I believe this place has great potential to expand there business especially if they upgrade to an inside style restaurant at where you can sit and wait for your food vs standing outside and not being asked for squares and change all day. Great food just need to find a better location. Loyal customers will follow.

Service sucked! Blonde with tattoos was not friendly at all and packed my order in they most sloppiest way ever! I asked for s new bad as my cole slaw spilt everywhere, this seemed to not sit well with her. My drink lids where not placed correctly and Almost spilt everywhere. Poor service won't ever return but share with everyone!

So this will be my last time eating from here waste frfr and I love food when it's correct so I order a gyro from here right and when I got it they put steak burger meat on my shit like frfr I know the difference between lamb and cow

Having moved far away from Exsenators, my previous bar-b-que joint of choice, I was faced with a dilemma...Should I start up my naughty habit of eating unhealthy rib tips occasionally or let it die away? I was doing well not being tempted to stop anywhere on the West side for Bar-b-que, but I had a mad craving last night. I called the janitor at my school, to get the low down on Mary's...why did I do that? He said they were great, but be careful and to call my order in ahead of time. This was my cue to let my naughty habit die away since I didn't have a number...but my life for a chance at some good tips, I decided. Mary's has no inside...you walk up and order from outside through the window, like getting a Jewtown, my bad, Maxwell street polish. You really don't want to be hanging on the corner, but these tips were worth it...tender, juicy, the sauce was really good, however I didn't care for the vinegary twang, but others might. I ordered wings also, they were not dropped fresh, so they were not as pleasant an experience. Oh yeah...tax is included in the price. There was also a free show of an older man standing in the middle of the street, drunk (hopefully) and rapping the same line, over and over and over. He then started yelling then went away...rib tips and a show! And the coup de grace, the man who gave me my food said, "Here you go, baby." I was not a ma'am! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Oh yeah, a cop car kept circling the block...I didn't know whether to clear out or feel safer, however I will definitely be back because those were some really good rib tips.

OMG!!! I catered 2 large pans of rib tips and 25 wings and the ribs were soooo tender!! This was a last minute cater order but the food was very fresh. Guest were very pleased, it's a must you try them out.

The best bbq in the city!!! The sauce is soooo good and I love the way they cut my tips. If you are ever in the area, make sure you get some tips and hot links. You will not regret it. I'm there at least twice a week (on the cheat days of my diet).

First of all I drove all the way from Rogers Park and wish I hadn't. We ordered a large combo that's rib tips and hot links also and extra hot link. I was a little skeptical at first since the girl who was taking the orders was scratching her head but u thought let's give it a try. We got it to go and paid $34.00. Let's just say that was a little more than expected since the place looked like is was on its last leg and would be demolished any day. When we opened the bag first thing I saw was that the bag full of grease and the food we will call it that for now. Now here's where I just wish I would have never made that trip. The hot links were chopped up in these little circles the rib tips were nothing but bones and grease the sauce was pure watered down and had zero taste. This place may have been good years ago but it's a real dump I would have like to give it no stars. DONT DO IT this place should be ashamed to be on the map.

Really good tips. The sauce could improve. Unlike most Rib Joints the meat was not burned. It was flavorful and affordable. They give you plenty. I got the Large Tip/Link and thought I would be able to finish like other places. I was eating rib tips for two days. The area is sketchy. I guess surviving in a crime ridden area makes your food more tasty. I stay in the suburbs and work in the city. Anybody coming this way, brings the Mary's

service is horrible!!!!! when the workers feel like working they'll answer the phone for you.....and if you walk up if they feel like taking orders that day you may not have to stand out (in the rain or snow) 10++ minutes before ordering. at times they close way earlier than whats posted.!! aw if they feel okay that day than the food maybe okay.....maybe i'll never be returning again

this is the worst restaurant ive been to so far. thier very rude, and very slow, they over cooked my bbq ribs, and wouldnt give my money back, or exchange it. the oil they use to fry food, was old, and thier hours of operation is inconsistent. i warn people not to go to this restaurant, its bad, and unhealthy. warning------warning.
