The food was better than our last visit. No nonsense establishment that is very popular, so expect to wait to be seated and on your food. Good prices, always pleasant staff.

Went over the weekend for breakfast. We had to wait to be seated first because they didn't have silverware and then because they didn't have clean tables. Food was okay. Eggs and bacon were good. Grits didn't have any salt added in and were watery.

Had brunch on Sunday - got in just before a crowd so we got a really cute booth spot just in time! It seems like a local favorite so just be aware of a potential wait, it’s worth it. Three main callouts - 1) Shout out to Penelope for the amazing recos and amazing kind and thoughtful service, saw her go from helping people at the bar to jumping to the families at their tables! 2) The breakfast bowl with cubed home fries, spicy chorizo, eggs and cheese was phenomenal and so filling! 3) I’m going to have dreams about the carrot cake slice, there’s a whole cake on display and you WILL want the whole thing

1st time back in 3 years. Not busy on a Saturday morning. Disappointed to say the least. Seated promptly. Order taken. Downhill from there. 2 waters and a large OJ. We only got one water. My wife's corn beef hash looked like dark brown dog food and was so salty it was inedible. The 2 over easy eggs were to be served on a separate plate (shows that on the receipt) but it came with 3 eggs on the main plate and a single piece of toast. Her potatoes were ok. My "Locals Favorite" arrived with one piece of paper thin bacon vs the 2 stated. The over easy eggs were cooked correctly. The pancakes were ok at best and small. We got the order un-screwed with the waitress (note: she doesn't cook or serve the food). If this is where the locals eat, I would find another place. *Note this review was completed without using ridiculous un-discriptive terms like out-of-bounds, OMG, on point, awesome, the bomb, yummy, delish, to die for, do yourself a favor, trust me, flavorful, or kids emojis etc.. Describe the food, service (or lack of) and provide details on the cost/copy of check and include pictures! Is the place clean? No disrespect to the employees, but no one cares about the waiter/waitress/clerk names, or if they look like they fell face first into a tackle box. They get changed like underwear and you don't get to pick one. We don't care about your allergies, vibes, how "chill" you feel, or the need for gluten free food. **If you see a Google review posted with just stars & no text, report it via the 3 dot selection adjacent to the review. If the text in the review doesn't describe the food/service report it. This cleans up Google reviews and removes the slugs just trying to get reviewer points by marking a star or "paid" reviewers. Process: Select - Report review. Select- Not helpful at the bottom of the drop down menu. If the review doesn’t help people decide whether to utilize this business or go to this place it's worthless.

Went for breakfast during our stay at Virginia Beach. Everyone was so friendly and the food was very good. One big plus is there is an actual parking lot!! We will definitely be back.

Google
Overall, Mary’s is a lovely diner run and staffed by excellent and kind people. We always come here when we’re on vacation because of the hearty portions sizes, the quality of the food, and the great price point! Definitely come here to get away from all the business on the boardwalk!!

The food was absolutely delicious. We were seated right away. And the service was wonderful. I would recommend this to anyone.

Google
First time visit to this spot, whose tag line is Eat Like a Local. A block or two removed from the action with its own parking, this looked promising as a way to avoid the tourist traps. At around 1130 on a Sunday we had just a 10 min wait, and were seated by the owner who clearly takes good care of both her restaurant and her customers. She spun up a delicious vanilla shake while we waited for breakfast. This was probably the highlight of the meal on this visit. The biscuits were large and flaky, but the sausage gravy was under seasoned and needed the flour cooking out. Cubed breakfast potatoes were mostly crisp, but some were undercooked. Coffee was passable but my refill offer came too late in the meal. Pancakes were good, according to my older teen, as was the bacon. Shredded hash browns were very poor. Undercooked and yet burned. Neutral on the scrambled eggs with cheese. I really wanted to like this place, and do wish I'd tried the BLT for a comparison with Pocahontas, which I've already dubbed The World's Best BLT. The wait time there forced this visit to Mary's. The servers and owner were friendly and efficient. Atmosphere was ok. Perhaps a seat at the counter might offer up a better experience. Realistically this visit was a 3, but I give 4 for the potential of better food if I pick wisely. The milk shake probably saved the visit. I can confirm this is indeed where locals go, as I heard one family say they come every Sunday.

Yelp
I was treated to my birthday brunch at Mary's yesterday. Karen was our Server and was awesome, as usual! She was very personable and attentive! The food was delicious and as ordered! Thanks for adding to my great day!!

Yelp
Very friendly service. Nice size parking lot to be do close to the oceanfront. I love the menu. They have exactly what you need. I was looking for sweet and salty at the same time for breakfast. I got the local special. Hashbrowns were excellent. Scrambled eggs were good. Sausage patties great flavor. Pancakes were OK. I have had better. But everything else seemed good. Our waitress was so great she brought us hot sauce and she was very attentive. Super friendly and helpful Also got the Boulevard Biscuit. That biscuit is 5 star eggs and bacon. Yummmm. That's the biggest biscuit I have ever seen. B as con was nice and crunchy but it wasn't as flavorful than what I'm used to too. Over all a solid 4 stars from me.

Yelp
We love Tuesdays here and always enjoy the beef tips over either mashed or rice, select a side. And it comes with a warm roll. Really great. This is our steady go to place when we visit VA Beach. Breakfast and lunch only, plenty of free psrking.

Yelp
I had the meat lovers omlett and added veggies. The food was very good. We were looking for a decent breakfast spot in the area, and this was it. The service was friendly and the establishment was clean. I would come back. 4 Stars

Yelp
Great local restaurant that serves the basic and some more fancy stuff. I had the jelly bean pancakes that were awesome! Full breakfast that includes great side and drink!

Yelp
I had a very insulting experience here this morning. To begin, I am from PA visiting VA Beach with my parents and boyfriend. My boyfriend and I walked over to Mary's to go on a breakfast date and I wanted to try the mimosa flight they offer. We sat down and ordered waters to start off while checking out the menu. Our waitress (I do not remember her name) came over to take our food order and everything was fine until I ordered my mimosa flight. My ID was sitting on the table before i ordered and I happily handed it to her as I have only been 21 for 7 months now and understand how important it is to provide your ID even tho she never asked. Once she looked at it she told me "I can not accept that" leaving me in shock. We tried to ask her why and she couldn't come up with an excuse until she mumbled "it has to be sideways for me to accept" I called my mom immediately and she informed me that is totally false. I completly understand establishments can deny service for any reason but it is very frustrating that the reason is because of my state issued PA drivers license. I would recommend that Mary's updates their training process for employees serving liquor as they are in a tourist spot and probably see IDs from other states all the time. I feel extremely insulted as I would never put someone's job at risk. It was also ignorant to say my card has to be horizontal to accept. PA ID's are given to individuals vertically when they obtain the card under 21 and on my card it clearly states in red "under age until *my birthday*". My 21st birthday was 7 months ago and I can not get a vertical card until mine expires. If you were to know that information and look at all the dates on the card it clearly lines up. I was also served alcohol at Top Golf in Va Beach two nights before with my family.I had no issues there whatsoever. I do not blame Mary's for this incident I just strongly believe some type of training needs updated. I am from PA so I do not know the how all that works here in VA but no one's state issued ID should be questioned it's extremely insulting. After they denied me business I cancelled my order and left.

Yelp
The food was good; *really* good. Nice variety of dishes, and fair sized portions. The decor was fun, interesting, clean and comfortable. The service, though, while friendly, was SO slow. It wasn't even that busy, either ~ half the tables were empty. We waited forever for our waitress to show up, and though she delivered the food fairly quickly, we didn't see her again until long after we were done eating. Then we had to wait in line at the register to pay. I would probably go back, but certainly would budget more time for my visit.

Yelp
My husband has been trying to get me to eat at Mary's for brunch for a couple of months now and when I ran the recent 10-miler last weekend we decided to come in here so I could carb out. My in-laws came with us and we waited for about 15-20 at 11am on a Sunday minutes but it moved very quickly. We were seated by the friendly GM who took our drink orders to help with a newer waitress who was clearly overwhelmed and took about 15 minutes to get to us to take our order. I ordered the biscuits and gravy and a kid's happy face fruit pancake, my father-in-law ordered the adult pancakes, my husband the drilled cheese with fries, and my mother-in-law the breakfast bagel sandwich with eggs, cheese and turkey bacon and a side of fruit. Coffee was decent but refills were a bit hard to get - when the food arrived everyone's came but my husband's and my pancake was wrong and had no fruit so I had to send it back. Our waitress said somehow his was deleted and she'd have one made quickly. After about 15 minutes of waiting (and eating while he waited) my father-in-law approached the GM who eventually came to tell us that our waitress was new, not doing too well, and had not only not put in the order, but had not told anyone AFTER his food didn't come so it wasn't even being made. He apologized profusely, said the food was comped for my husband and he was rushing it out. After about 30 minutes from the time our food arrived, his grilled cheese came out. It was delicious - buttery and cheesy and perfectly cooked. He liked it. My biscuits and gravy was absolutely wonderful - thick and fresh and soft buttery biscuits with yummy gravy. My father-in-law and I agreed the pancakes were only ok. My mother-in-law's bagel sandwich looked good. They have a large menu and tons of lunch specials daily to choose from as well as lots of pies and desserts in a display up front. There is a nice bar area you can also sit at and it's a local, relaxed feel inside with surfboard decor. The food was good - our waitress was trying very hard and was very sweet - and the GM was excellent. We will come back and give them another try - they handled it well.

Yelp
Recommended by a coworker who is local. Great breakfast, food, atmosphere, employee's. Will definitely stop again when in the area.

Yelp
Visiting Virginia Beach & looked on Yelp for a breakfast place. Came across Mary's Kitchen. It was a 3 minute drive from hotel. Ample free parking in a nice strip mall with maybe 5 stores. We were seated right away. Given water then waitress came to order. Food came out quickly. Service was great. Price point okay. Restaurant was very airy & clean. They serve drink like bloody Mary's. Will definitely go again for breakfast

Yelp
Cute, clean, busy, not super loud, pleasant. Our server was Joy, and while she was every so lovely & attentive, she was slammed and didn't have a ton of extra time. That's just the way things are now. I got the avocado toast, and it was pretty basic- nothing too fancy. I did add one scrambled egg with cheese on top. I would come again! Very good!

Ellwyn T.

Yelp
Food and service was excellent. It is a local place! This was a day that they donated all proceeds to Local Fire departments.

Yelp
Eat Like A Local is their motto. If this is how locals eat, they must be very happy folks. Great diner food. Mary's Feast was a sampler of their breakfast hits. Pancakes are a specialty, so don't miss those. Big portions, great tasting food with friendly service. My new favorite at VB. Try it, you'll like it. Great local atmosphere.

Sandra O.

Yelp
First time there this morning. Awesome place. Everyone is efficient and super nice, especially Janet our waitress. I got the Mary's Feast. So god. Waffle was perfect. Airy, light and tasted great. Everything was perfect. Biscuits, light and fluffy. Coffee was even delicious. As a local, going to the Oceanfront during summer is not something you do. I however will now make an exception because I have to go back and try lunch. I didn't have a milk shake, but they looked like an old fashioned milk shake. Whip cream and cherry on top. Oh, and there was a lot of food!

Yelp
I am a creamed chipped-beef fan. After dozens of restaurants, I have concluded "without any hesitation" that "Mary's Kitchen" chipped-beef is the worst! The chipped-beef is way too salty, has hardly any beef, the quantity is small, and the gravy is way too thick and tasteless. In addition, the breakfast potatoes are a common frozen commercial brand and are dry & flavorless. In the positive side, "Mary's Kitchen" has a super-riffic serving staff - they always give me "More Smiles Than I Came In With!" and make me wanna return. After 3 tries at "Mary's" chipped beef, I will not order them ever again - Stouffer's store brand chipped-beef would be a better choice for "Mary's" to serve. How about some fresh potatoes too? the atmosphere is spacious with a BIG business feel, rather than a desired "ma & pa" local's feel. "Run-A-Way Bill" was here! - AGAIN Wednesday 12.06.23 p.s. Thanks for the smiles "Shannon" (this time) & "Tyler" on my previous visit.

Caroline B.

Yelp
Awesome restaurant! Our server Nicole was very sweet and gave great service, and the hostess was sweet as well. Food was amazing and came out very quickly, had the WRV bagel which was awesome and eggs cooked perfectly. Would definitely visit again and again when in the area.

Mary B.

Yelp
Excellent service, excellent food! I had 2 cheese omelet, & fried sweet potatoes. The decorations were all ocean/ surf boards. I loved it!

Lulu E.

Yelp
This place is a home run! Wonderful service, excellent food, perfect portions, thoughtful selections, and welcoming atmosphere. Literally something for everybody. We enjoyed this place so much I almost don't want to write this review because I'd like to keep it for myself. Very pleased, you'll be happy you came. The food was delicious and the cocktails so tasty, I forgot to take a photo. Next time :)!

Yelp
The building was super cold but during the summer that's a good thing. There's a beachy atmosphere. Our server was very friendly but they seemed a bit short staffed. She was training a new server. The food was delicious except the hash browns were a little chewy. Overall a cute place to have breakfast or lunch.
google avatar

Yelp
Service is outstanding. We are locals who become tourist. If you are visiting Virginia Beach and looking for a spot with good home cooking, go to this place. This is a spot now on our list to go during the off season. The food was good. I love a simple breakfast and it met every expectation. The restaurant is diner style and cozy. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Great locally owned restaurant for breakfast or lunch. It reminds me of mom and pop restaurants in the area. I had the more healthy choice breakfast bowl with fruit.

Yelp
When we lived in what's known as the ViBe District and mini me went to Cooke Elementary, every so often we would stop by here after taking mini me to CHKD for health issues. It was a ritual that I and mini me would do. Feeling nostalgic, we returned. The coffee is always good, food decent, service impeccable! Although majority of the staff has now left and replaced by new employees. Our waitress was young and had college debt to pay off so she worked there to pay off school loans quicker. Smart girl! The decor has changed some, the colors on the walls were red and blue, trimmed in white. Pretty patriotic colors if you ask me. And yes some of the decorations had changed over the years, after all it's been 12 years since we moved to our present location and most of our neighborhood friends had moved away, so we don't get to this area much anymore. But it's nice to visit old stomping grounds and here's a nice reminder for those that do not know this area too well, it's within a mile from the oceanfront, roads are a bit narrower, people often park in front of their home on the street, and for those living around there, people mostly ride bikes or walk to their location. I maybe living in another part of the city, but let's face it, I still miss this area. And if you're driving through, watch after the bike riders, when we lived there, they tended to ignore stop signs. Just saying because no one wants to be involved in an accident.
google avatar

Jay J.

Yelp
One of the few "diner style" places around, which is definitely a welcomed treat. Great local breakfast/lunch place with an amazing menu. Super fast and friendly service. A few blocks from the oceanfront make it convenient but also a small escape from the crowds. If you're looking for a great breakfast place, make this a priority.

Yelp
This is really a 3.5 star review. We came to Mary's our last morning at Virginia Beach to get a "real" breakfast. It was crowded so there was a short wait for a table. It was concerning that during the entire time we were in there that only a handful of patrons and none of the staff were wearing masks even though the current COVID-19 positivity rate in Virginia Beach is 14%, which downgraded our overall rating of the restaurant. Hubby ordered the Country Southwestern Omelet with wheat toast and I ordered the 2 eggs (scrambled) with bacon and a Belgian waffle. We both had coffee, which was good. Our food tasted great, and sustained us for the rest of the morning.

Bridget B.

Yelp
Ate here twice during our stay. The chicken and waffles were the best. Omelettes were good. Pancakes so-so. Quiet diner style where many of the locals eat.
google avatar

Aaron Z.

Yelp
Solid place for breakfast in VA beach. Inside they are a successful mix of new beach restaurant with old school diner. Lots of regulars were in when we arrived around 8am. I ordered biscuits with sausage gravy, eggs, and home fries and had a coffee. The coffee itself was a light roast and not bad. The food was alright, nothing too fancy but not less than Ok by any means. The pace here is slower and the staff very friendly and striking up conversations with the new and regular customers. I would come here again for a nice hearty breakfast. I like the contrast to other places for breakfast closer to the boardwalk.

Aaron O.

Yelp
As much as I hate to slam a local eatery, I must say that for $15 that is the worst biscuits and gravy I have ever eaten. I stopped at 8 AM to grab biscuits and gravy with two eggs. The biscuits were hard as rocks and the gravy did not taste fresh, and had very little flavor to begin with. The eggs were very oily, not buttery, oily. I would never consider eating here again. Their slogan is eat like the locals, if that's how the locals eat I'm going to go with a hard pass!
google avatar

Valeri S.

Yelp
It's been awhile since I have had pancakes for breakfast with some yummy hot cocoa. I was not aware they had mimosas so that is something new to keep in mind for my next visit. The waitress was very friendly and attentive to our needs. The place was pretty cool and we still did not feel ignored.
google avatar

Caitie Z.

Yelp
My family came here for breakfast on a Thursday morning. The restaurant was about a quarter full and picked up the longer we were there. It took awhile for a waitress to come over and take our order, but once she did, things moved along. It was definitely a place for regulars as several couples arrived after us and were served before us. The waitress knew their orders and they were placed right away. This restaurant has a decent amount of breakfast items on the menu. Very diner like, with unique daily specials. Anything from omelets and egg dishes to french toast, pancakes and biscuits and gravy. I opted for the Kaizen Power Bowl- sweet potatoes topped with scrambled eggs and bacon served with fresh fruit. The fruit was fresh and the dish was good, it just felt like it was missing something - whether it was an additonal ingredient or if the ingredients could have been incorporated together versus stacked individually. For breakfast at the beach, this works. Lots of food options, decent portion sizes, friendly service, reasonable prices. It gets the job done.

Yelp
I read some good reviews about Mary's Restaurant at 616 Virginia Beach Boulevard near the Oceanfront and today I stopped by for a late breakfast. I had my heart set on the Classic Eggs Benedict but due to the COVID-19 pandemic they are not offering that at this time. My server Kim was very helpful with menu questions and suggestions if you are on the fence about what to order. I started out with Iced tea but I asked for half sweet, half unsweetened because I know how Southerners make sweet tea. "If the spoon doesn't stand up in your glass, it ain't sweet enough... " this was just perfect! I settled on another of my all time favorite dishes, the Classic Club Sandwich. Kim highly recommend this and I'm glad that she did because it was amazing. They slow roast the turkey in house and they do not skimp on the ingredients. A classic Club Sandwich should have 3 slices of bread, otherwise it is just a BLT with Turkey. This was exactly what I wanted and more. The French Fries were fried to a beautiful golden brown in such a way that they were crispy outside and meaty inside, just delicious! If you are looking for a great place to have a wonderful meal, check out the wonderful folks at Mary's Restaurant. You will be happy that you did and you can rest assured that you are supporting local business!

Yelp
Heard of this place by a local friend. The food was amazing! Highly suggest the pancakes. Karen was our waitress, s and she was amazing. The food and orices were so good, we went back the next morning (pics) and Kim was our waitress! The food was outta the park. I saw so many people getting biscuits the day befor and , I obviously had to try them. They were not dried out. They were soft, airy, and delicious. My sisters omelet was great in her opinion. This is our new place when visiting Va Beach. Luckily, it is only 2.5 south of us.

Yelp
Food and service are always great! Having breakfast at Mary's is a must for us whenever we visit Virginia Beach. We've been coming here for many years. The beach theme with hanging surf boards gives a laid-back vibe.
google avatar

Joe S.

Yelp
Food was great. Pancakes were very good, but in truth I prefer their French toast made with Texas toast bread. The service was outstanding. Waitress was friendly and very helpful. The place itself is timeless. Nice booths along the wall and tables in the middle. There is also a counter if you so desire. I didn't try the pies and cakes, but maybe next time I'm in the area. Yum!

Yelp
Now mind you, I've been coming to this location for years, way before their dining area facelift. Though it is not a favorite of mine, it is for my parents. Anytime they are in the area, Mary's is a must! The waiters/waitresses are usually always nice. My go to order is the WRV with turkey bacon, basically a breakfast sandwich on a bagel. Many cheese options. I love that it comes open faced and over flowing off the bagel. This time, I did find a little bit of egg shell but it didn't bother me much. Also, the hash browns were super crispy/crunchy that I couldn't even eat the underside of them. Specialty drink boards with more than a few options with alcohol. I ordered the triple mocha with no alcohol (the night before was LONG) and my request was made. Drink was blah. Nothing special. Also, they have milkshakes?! Overall, this is an okay place that I enjoy visiting with my parents as it is our tradition. 3.5 rounded down. Will continue to come here unless something crazy happens *knocks on wood*.

Yelp
Mary's is a cute little place...generally with decent food. However, for some reason today didn't go as expected. When I arrived I found a Yelp deal for Mary's for a free cup of coffee with purchase. I got the 17th Street Classic ($7.99) and added some hash browns ($1.99) to it. I showed my waitress the coupon for the free coffee. My meal came out as expected except I received onions in my hash browns. They make their hash browns with onions. I didn't know that and opted not to eat them. I dislike onions. When the bill came, it was $19.01. The coffee was still on the bill. I walked up to the cash register and informed the hostess about the free coffee from a Yelp deal and she laughed/scoffed at me. I paid the $19.01....but left $0.00 in tip. I am a rather generous tipper so if you manage to get the old $0.00....you might ask yourself what you are doing wrong.

Yelp
Arrived via the back door in November of 2021 on a brisk Saturday morning. The line for a table forms at the front door. If you want to sit at the counter you can skip the line. I would not recommend sitting at the counter near the back door like I did; whenever the door opens you get a chilly, chilly wind blown blast. Burrrr.... Mary's has been serving breakfast and lunch in Virginia Beach since 1960. The decor is no nonsense 'cept for a few random surf boards fitting with the beach locale. Plenty of locals here. The coffee served in huge white "Eat Like A Local" mug has a strong, pleasant aroma that smells fresh. Kick start your brain with a bold cup of Joe from Mary's. I had a spinach and cheddar cheese omelette with a side of bacon. I left off the hash browns and bread to make it the perfect Keto breakfast--Yummy! I also picked up a breakfast of scrambled eggs with cheese, white toast and bacon to go. Mary's is a solid, local institution and I will certainly be back.

Yelp
Service was outstanding and quick. Terrific staff. Good food. We had breakfast and it was absolutely delicious. Made to order done just right. Great variety of food to choose from. Family friendly atmosphere.

Yelp
I have the fried flounder two days in a row and it was delicious! The food comes out fast and hot and the waitress was amazing! Every time we come to VA beach this is our go to breakfast place.

Rusty S.

Yelp
I have been coming to this establishment for awhile and I moved and came back and the food was absolutely horrible I ordered biscuits and gravy. The entire meal just tasted off way off and I didn't finish it at all 2 bites and never again the wife ordered ham and cheese omelet. Way over cooked probably forgot it on the flat top the quality has gone down past edible the waitress are good the line cook are absolutely horrible and don't care the food they are serving obviously no moral code for food service. I have been a chef for 28 years now and if you serve people for a living than you should stand behind your service of food if you won't eat it don't serve it period.

Patrick C.

Yelp
Waited at counter while one server cleaned a table, lady behind the counter couldn't take my order and server on other side of restaurant was checking on customers who had already eaten. Simple order but told me to wait twice.

Yelp
I stopped by here for breakfast with my dad and stepmom. First time here. Barely anyone in the restaurant. My dad said it looked like all senior citizens lol. They do have an early bird special for $4.79 before 9am. They said we could seat ourselves and so we sat at a booth. They brought us coffee and creamer. No flavored creamer though... bum-bummer. Coffee was good though. I ordered their Belgian waffle and 2 eggs over medium with bacon. Really loved the waffle! Crunchy and great flavor. Eggs were not runny, cooked perfect as I requested them over medium. Rosely ordered their omelette of the day which was their southwestern omelette. This came with sausage, green peppers, onions, mushrooms, pepper jack and cheddar cheese. My dad ordered the Mary's Beast and it was alot of food! It came with 3 pancakes, 3 eggs, spiced apples, grits, a biscuit and bacon. As we were finishing up breakfast the restaurant was full. I guess we are early risers. We beat the morning rush. Great dining experience. I'd like to come back.

Yelp
Really good local breakfast spot. They do traditional breakfast exceptionally well. They have an amazing selection of items, including some creative ones. Mary's also has a beautiful bakery case of house made treats. Their amazing and gigantic cupcakes are shockingly cheap at $3! This place has been here forever, and for good reason. If you're looking for a drink with your breakfast, they've gotten on board with that trend as well. Of not, they brew amazing traditional coffee. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Another great breakfast at Mary's! Levia would've liked their food warmer, waffles and hash browns were Luke warm but otherwise great service and food. We'll be back!

Yelp
This place has gone down...they seated us only to be left waiting to take our order which was almost a hour. We eventually got up and left the place ...never to return. I can no longer recommend this place. Also this place seems to Cater to a certain group of people if you know what I mean.

Yelp
We stopped here based on a recommendation and were not disappointed. The staff was friendly and attentive even though they were a bit short handed. Mary's Kitchen sits in the Vibe District and the vibe inside was definitely welcoming and hospitable. Their slogan refers to "eating like a local" and we saw several customers referred to by name as they entered. It was a very comfortable place to eat with a clean and pleasant decor. We both had an omelette (Western for me and Meat Lovers for my wife). Both were generous and tasty, as were the sides that came with them. They were not the best omelettes we have ever had but, they were made properly and well-flavored. Good food. If you are in the Vibe District (which we loved), take advantage of the opportunity to walk around to see the murals and other art works. Also, visit the many other local establishments like Mary's Kitchen. You will be glad you did.

Yelp
I really enjoyed Mary's. Me and 3 of my friends came here as we were leaving the beach for the weekend. Situated about 5 blocks from Atlantic Ave makes it seem hidden, but the reviews seemed good so we gave it a try. We are glad we stumbled upon this place... when I am back In town, I will go back. Our waitress was super friendly. She was very sweet and smiled the entire time and had a couple pleasant conversations with our table. BLOODY MARYS WERE GOOD- nice old bay rim, spicy, olives and celery I ordered a crab omelet with Swiss cheese with hash browns, thick cut rye toast and a side of creamed chipped beef. The crab omelet would have been better if it were more of a "crab cake" filled omelet. The plain crab meat and cheese didn't have the most flavor but I put hot sauce and some creamer chipped beef on top of it and made it my own. One of the other menu items that caught my eye was their one breakfast for $4.99 - seemed like a really good deal and came with a lot of sides, eggs toast, meat choice etc. my friend ordered it and it looked good.

Yelp
Everything I ordered was subpar. Country fried steak needed 2 stake knives. The gravy out of the can. Even Texas toast had no taste. I will never come again. My GF & I was a $60 bill. Fast food was better

Yelp
went here with a friend and tried the locals favorite; 2 eggs , 2 pieces of bacon and a big giant waffle and coffee. Everything was really good, and the service was great as well!

Yelp
I'm always willing to try something new, but Mary's has just not been a high priority. So when I had a meet up with someone in the Vibe that asked to meet here I thought why not. The place certainly predates the vibe and has been around for decades. The location has great road visibility right off the boulevard in the Cypress Shops. Parking is on both sides of the building and you can also enter from either side. On the west side of the building you will find the waiting and hostess area. I found the lot to be tidy. I entered on the west side but was not immediately greeted by anyone. A few minutes passed and I asked someone if it was seat yourself. They replied that I could have a table wherever I like. The place is very large and although local has the feel of an IHOP. Two different staff people initially assisted with getting me started with a drink, both very friendly. The dining room is crazy spacious, you would never guess by driving by. There is a semi private area on the west side that can be use for meetings, however the restrooms are in this area. Although dated everything appeared clean and all unused tables were cleared. I ordered the Mary's Feast which is a little bit of everything. Pancakes eggs potatoes, two kinds of meat, grits and a biscuit. The price was very affordable at just under $10. My food arrived in less than 15 minutes and was hot and appeared appetizing. The coffee was blah, but yelp does have a check in an offer that gives you a coffee or tea for free and I planned on using it. The pancakes had a little flavor the biscuit was just ok, the grits were barely palatable, the sausage patty good and the bacon overly chewy. Eggs were fine and initially the home fried potatoes tasty until I discovered a hair on the bottom of the plate. At that point I was done about half way into the meal. My waitress came over to clear and asked me how everything was and I told her about the hair and she apologized. However she never alerted a manager to discuss the matter with me. I asked if the kitchen staff where hair nets. She said one cook is bold and the other where's a cap. Upon check out the staff person asked me how everything was. I again alerted them that a hair was found in my dish. She asked and I quote "was everything else OK" Ha, Ha, Ha... oh yeah everything else was just fine and dandy..I mean really! This was a second opportunity to get a manager and it never happen. HELLO train your staff. In the spirit of Christmas I guess I will not knock them all the way down to a one star and call it a 1.5 rounding up primarily due to the fact that every staff person was extremely nice. I will not return, or recommend.
