I came here on a Friday night for a solo dinner. They were great to accommodate me. I had the tortilla soup and enchilada dinner with rice and beans. The mole sauce had a terrific flavor. Everything was fresh and cooked just right. I also appreciate the free chips and salsa upon sitting down. The wait staff was very friendly and helpful. I will be back.

This was a very pleasant find. The fish tacos here are amazing and the skirt steaks here was also really good. The place was pretty big inside but also seemed cozy at the same time and the servers here were all very friendly and helpful.

I recently dined at Mas Alla Del Sol restaurant, and the experience was nothing short of exceptional. The staff displayed incredible attention, particularly towards my grandmother and parents, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The food was not only delicious but surpassed expectations, with standout cocktails adding to the delightful experience. The nachos, in particular, are a must-try—forget the ordinary, these are a flavorful departure that alone justifies the one-hour drive to this wonderful establishment. The genuine care extended to my family made the visit truly special, and for that, we are immensely grateful.

This is a great spot for a Mexican fine dining. The margarita flight is a must have, but all cocktails were excellent. My favorite Mexican dish is tampiqueña and they make one of the best I’ve had. The steak is seasoned perfectly. The refried beans are unassuming but wow, so full of flavor. The homemade salsa is spectacular and the Borracho Beans are just fantastic. This is a very special spot with just top tier food.

Always fantastic. Chilaquiles are top notch and the steak is cooked to perfection (medium rare for me). Fun selection of drinks too. Just a really nice elevated Mexican experience overall.

Amazing experience. Adan was the best server!!The drinks are so good and kept flowing. I had the steak fajitas and i didn’t even need a knife, everything was soft and cooked perfectly. My friend got the enchiladas and they were so flavorful! Definitely come here!!

Was so surprised to find this place wasn't packed on Sunday evening. We had a pitcher of prickly pear margaritas, which were delicious and refreshing. The chips and salsa were delicious, though the second dish of salsa was much spicier than the first. The chicken fajitas were so good, loved the veggies, and the chicken was perfectly cooked. The tortillas Were homemade and so good, loved spending an evening here and look forward to my next visit. They also have a small patio.

LOVE Mas Alla Del Sol!! Amazing family owned mexican restaurant in Andersonville with really great service. I've been here a few times and every time I have had a great experience. The atmosphere is very comfortable and casual. My favorite meal so far has been the chicken fajitas - soo tasty and it's a really good sized portion (and comes with rice and beans). The margaritas are also fantastic! Although the food and drinks are great, what really makes Mas Alla is the service. The servers and bartenders are always friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Would highly recommend this spot for a delicious meal, margarita, and great service.

Think enchiladas & fajitas, but VERY elevated because of the use of top tier ingredients. Lamb shank was wonderful. Skirt steak was marinated in a style that I can only describe as award worthy. Excellent meal. Excellent service. Excellent mariachi's laying down musical flavor. BUENOS TIEMPOS

The food is well presented and high quality, but portions are small for the price. Nevertheless I have been here 5 times and the service was absolutely lovely (especially by the younger waitress) until my 5th time. We made a reservation and showed up on time. We waited at the host stand with another party for over 5 minutes before someone even glanced at us. Many staff walked by during this time but would not make eye contact. We were finally acknowledged then told to wait by the bar, which was full so we stood in a random spot for 20 minutes with no update. When I then went to the host stand to enquire what was going on, (I literally said, "Hi, we have been waiting for 20 minutes, do you know how much longer the wait will be?") the older woman said very condescendingly, "Honey, we are just very busy tonight". No apology, no respect. I told her that we had had wonderful service before and asked if something was going on but she proceeded to speak to me with condensation and rudeness. All I wanted was an update, honey. If she had just said "I am so sorry, we will seat you as soon as we can", I would have been satisfied to wait and would not be writing this negative review. Instead, her attitude ruined our time there and I will be looking for another Mexican restaurant to frequent. Manners go a long way, honey.

Service was impeccable. Amazing Guacamole. Chicken fajitas were flavorful and filling. Carne asada and chile relleno easily the best we've had. It's so difficult to find a place that serves fried ice cream which is a Mexican favorite for us and theirs is really good. Atmosphere was lively without being too noisy. We went on Friday night and easily got a reservation for 6 in the late afternoon (which we recommend). A little more expensive than standard Mexican but worth it. Sides in Mexican dinners sometimes seem like an afterthought but their rice and refried beans are perfect compliments.

The food was very authentic, and the service was great. We made it in just before the rush. By 8pm, it was packed. We all had Margaritas and Sangria with Queso Fundi I was a little angry that the menu prices weren't what I'd seen on YELP, but the food was good, and I got over the price difference quickly enough. If you're looking for authentico Mexican cuisine, this is the place for you.

It's been awhile since I've been here (about 5 years) but today we tried it again and I have to say, it was really really delicious! Service was great and Alberto was an excellent server. He was friendly, explained the dishes, and offered to make some drinks spicy and provided any other special requests we asked for. Kudos to Alberto as he really made our night! We started with a house rita, watermelon margarita, and a mango margarita and they were potent, flavorful and really had a punch. I didn't think they were as expensive as what some other reviewers mentioned, but yeah they were up there, sure ($16) but we thought they were well worth the cost that we got that we ordered another round LOL. For appetizer we ordered the Taquitos which came with a small serving of quacamole in the center. Delish! Entrees: carne asada with Chile Relleno was fantastic! Friends got the steak enchiladas which were delish and also the taco dinner; of course we taste each others food, and yes they too were good!! Desert was also really really good. The standout were the churros, wow probably the best we've ever had and that's saying something! The other desert was the chocolate lava cake. It too was delish but was overshadowed by the deliciousness of the churros. We will def be back but this time we won't wait another 5 years. You should go!

Just came with friends for dinner and everything was great and delicious! When we got here, our wait time was probably about 10 minutes for a party of 6. With it being a Saturday evening, it was pretty full. They do adhere to your allergies as a friend of mine is allergic to cilantro. You can't go to a Mexican restaurant without ordering margaritas- blood orange and their regular margaritas were ordered first. We then ordered guacamole, Caesar salads and then our entree. With there being 6 of us we chose either the taquitos, enchiladas, salmon or the 3 steak tacos. Everything was delicious!

Basically the main point is the food is great but the price blows. It's a common theme around here. Mas Alla Del Sol is a somewhat small Mexican restaurant. Lots of these little places on North Broadway with varying goodness. There's a lot of good drinks and food, but you gotta pay up a lot. After being disappointed that a nearby restaurant went out of business, we stopped here. It was the first time, and may have been the last time with the prices. The drinks and food were too good to give this a bad review. If you're willing to fork over that much, then okay. The drinks are the real killer, with alcohol content and regards to the wallet. But these are good. We each had a De La Casa Margarita. It's $13 for a small glass. This is made with agave, Desilador tequila, lime, and orange liquor. As for the food, also expensive. We got the side of guacamole because we already spent too much. It's $4 for a little bit. This was fresh and spicy. Concluding, it's good as far as flavor. It's a much different story with price. This seems kind of jacked up.

We came here for breakfast on a very quiet Sunday morning. The lady was very welcoming and had a big smile, got us seated right away. We were the only ones in the restaurant until a party of 11 arrived soon after. And that was our cue to get our order in right away. Unfortunately, sometimes you have to be proactive to continue to receive great customer service. And the last thing I wanted was to be the first ones to sit down and not get our food until after the party of 11 got theirs. No sir. Not today. My wife ordered their chilaquiles verdes and I ordered their Chilaquiles Yucatecos. We also ordered their cafe con canela, and thought we would get a similar taste to a cafe de olla but it wasn't even close. The coffee was still good but nothing compares to a Cafe de Olla. Both chilaquiles came with rice and black beans, two fried eggs, avocado and red onions. My wife ordered hers without the onions. The chilaquiles verdes came with a very tasty green sauce. It was a little spicy and a hint of citrus. The Chilaquiles Yucatecos came with an habanero sauce that had more heat but still very flavorful. If you ever think these are too hot to eat you can always mix in the rice and beans with the chilaquiles to reduce the heat. And the avocados absolutely help you cool down a bit as well. It also came with queso panela which made this dish even better. Overall, I was really satisfied with their service and their food. They have a few other chilaquiles that's I wouldn't mind checking out. I'll definitely be returning.

I typically come to this restaurant quite often. Their tampiqueña is EVERYTHING! Best in Chicago thus far. I've been to many restaurants to try out their tampiqueñas and none of them are as good as theirs. The salsa they offer with the tortillas chips I find it to be so spicy, but yet so good! I find myself always ordering more and more of it. Can't get enough. I was here on 09/23/23. Our server was Alberto C. He really surprised me! Great service! He kept coming to our table to make sure we were doing good. I didn't even have to flag him down to ask for anything because he was on it! Never had anyone in any restaurant I been to come and pick up the drinks from the table to clean under the cup. He took customer service to another level! I will make sure that when I come back I make sure I request him to be my server.

Ok here's the deal. The food was good, the service okay and the price unreasonable. Other reviews noted that but I missed it. Don't make the same mistake I did! Each entree we got was $22, refills on horchata are not free and for two people the meal cost $73 with tip. I know, I know inflation, etc but this was really a shocker.

Excellent authentic Mexican food. Service is professional and friendly. The place has a great bar area and booths and regular tables to relax an enjoy--a great and safe place for family and friends to meet.

Amazing Chilaquiles and great service! Went in alone and kitchen was quick, I got my food in about 10 minutes.

Nothing negative to say. The food was delicious, the service was great. Fair quiet atmosphere. Will absolutely go back. Prices are higher than the normal Mexican restaurants but it's worth it.

I have eaten at this restaurant many times, ordering many different items from the menu, and am never disappointed. The service is friendly and professional. Some people may find it a tad loud, but I think it's the right combination of lively and fun, and I have never had an issue having conversations with dining companions. If you haven't eaten here yet, add it to your list for 2024.

I wanted to love this place. I just had an extremely relaxing day at King's spa and decided to meet with some friends for dinner at Mas Alla Del Sol. It was a pretty busy Saturday night, but we were seated right away. I suggest making reservations because they are trendy. The interior is charming; however, the booths are kind of small, so again, if you are going with a large group, make a reservation so you can take a vantage of their tables. I will say the wait staff was very lovely, forgetful at times, but our waitress had a fantastic personality. I can tell they were working very hard that night. The primary issue of the experience was slow service. It was kind of late. We got there at 7:30 and didn't receive our food until 9 o'clock. Also, my friends and I were tired and hungry. One of our friends was pregnant, so the waiting was pretty excruciating. I can understand it being crowded, but after a while, many people cleared out, and it still was super slow. We often found ourselves trying to figure out ways to keep ourselves entertained. Now that that's out of the way, let's talk about the food. It's a pretty pricy restaurant, and the food was decent. I lived in Pilsen on 18 street, so my standards are pretty high. I got the Carne Asada which was $35, and one of the signatures. It's a juicy cut of Skirt steak cooked medium with rice, beans, and Veggies on the side. It was overall good, and I loved the rice. I wish the food were a bit hotter. I think it may have been sitting for a while. Compared to a place like Cantón Regio, where you can get a ribeye for 20, the price is a bit much for what your getting. My friends got the Lamb which looked and was told was delicious. The meat fell off the bone. The Tilapia tacos, which my friend also enjoyed, and the steak and shrimp. We all enjoyed our meals, but after waiting over an hour, we were so hungry anything would've tasted amazing. I have to give a special shout-out to the fantastic Guava cheesecake. Light and rich seared with caramel was perfect. Over all Mas Alla Del Sol delivered in the food department, but the slow wait time dampened the overall experience. Their most significant advantage is there isn't a lot of competition in their area, which is why I believe they're a bit pricey. Based on this first experience, 3 1/2 of 5

We discovered this beauty during a street fair. We ducked in to beat the heat, and found some of the best food we ever found on accident lovely waitstaff, and amazing food. Check it out!

Maybe we need a more extensive dine-in experience with this place as other reviewers have recounted. Due to the late hour because of a flight delay, we opted for take-out of chicken enchiladas with molé sauce and found the sauce along with the beans to be on the thin and runny side, an unfortunate surprise given that (as others have pointed out) this restaurant is a tad pricier.

It's a good Mexican Restaurant. I had a Carne Asada plate and Chile Arellano and it was all good. It is on the pricey side. Average around 30 a plate I'd say. We had a good time and the service was good. Ambiance, it is a slightly dark place. Crowded, but it was Saturday night I believe.

This family run business is awesome. Food is authentic and delicious. Drinks are always tasty and service is always excellent. We live nearby and this has been our go to place for tasty Mexican food. We have been here dozens of times and we've always had an excellent dining experience.

Very yummy place to come to the food is amazing actually more than that very authentic to be honest and drinks are on point been here several time with the family their good with big parties have had little by little most of the menu theirs not one thing I didn't like so far everything is very good will not be disappointed at all one of my favorite places to come too

It is a little unassuming from the outside and inside. Don't let that fool you. The margaritas were delicious. The pork tenderloin special was so, well, tender and perfectly spiced. The Carne Mas Alla Del Sol was wonderfully tender skirt steak cooked and spiced perfectly. It was a very full restaurant on a Friday night, so I recommend reservations.

There should be a line around the block, and sometimes there is. Best margaritas in the city, all hand pressed juices. Best homemade family recipes and freshest seafood. Ceviche is a stand out. The lamb shank is to die for served falling off the bone with a creamy mix of corn and mashed potatoes.

I should have wrote this review years ago and I am sorry that I haven't! This is our favorite restaurant! This is a place run by an amazing family where you are greeted with hugs in normal times when they get to know you. But almost most importantly, they knew how to switch gears during the pandemic to enact safety policies to ensure the health of themselves, their employees, and their customers. They make you feel like family, to the point where my now husband and I wanted nowhere else to have our very, very, very tiny wedding reception there last year after our tiny outdoor wedding. It was just a very private wedding with a very small handful of immediate family. Mas Alla Del Sol followed covid protocol, but still made it an incredibly special day. Their food is so amazing!! Our favorites are the queso fundito, the lamb shank, the enchiladas, and the taquitos; as well as the verdolagas salad, corn mashed potatoes.... Okay I can just go on and on... lol I highly recommend this place! Just don't keep me from getting a table or bar seat and we will be all good! :)

I started going to Mac Alla Del Sol when the owners were on Western Ave. I have never had a bad meal. To be honest, I always order the same thing. lol. Tampiqueña Carne Asada. To die for. I've tried the dish at other places and it doesn't compare.

Adon is the man! His cuisine is amazing and so authentic. His whole family works at the restaurant, a family affair. Friendly service, great food, and a cheerful dining room. We consider this our favorite Mexican restaurant in the city of Chicago. I ordered the carne asada and chile relleno combination. The steak was cooked perfectly for med rare and the chile relleno was stuffed with queso panela so thick. Heavenly!

Food Is expensive and when I mention to the waiter my steak was salty the manager came over and she very rudely replies "the steaks are soaked over night and thats the outcome"...she rudely took it back and brought me a different on where was a little least salt. The manager is rude.. Brunch for just 2 people we paid $129 for small amount of food and rude manager.

We love this place and have been coming for years. That being said, it has gotten EXTREMELY expensive. It is good quality and tasty food, but you are paying river north prices in Edgewater. Will continue to come here, but will have to be for special occasions.

Extremely friendly staff, especially the server. Honestly, the staff truly contributes to the dining experience. Mas Alla gets high marks. Our server was remarkably polite and helpful! The complementary salsa has a nice spice to it....loved it! Guacamole...very nice! My steak tacos, with chopped skirt steak, was a surprise treat. Black beans (on request) and the rice had a nice flavor. If you need to reserve a spot, call ahead. Dinner gets busy.

Came here for dinner on a cold December night in 2019. Restaurant was packed with diners when we arrived. The restaurant was cozy and decorated for Christmas. Felt like we were at someone's house. Gave off comfy home vibes. We had the guac and chips as appetizers. One of us had the tilapia tacos. The other had the fajitas with steak, and I had the enchiladas. We had several drinks between the mojito, pomegranate mojito and the mora y piña margarita. The mora y piña margarita was delicious. We also had deserts that we shared. Food was good. Service was prompt.

Dined here and picked up carryout many times. With others and solo. All entrees, appetizers, drinks, and desserts have been superb. Staff is always friendly and attentive. This is a rare gem of a restaurant where everything is good. Be sure to try the margarita of the day.

So far, this place has the best tacos on the Northside! I've been to many restaurants and I am familiar with homemade, authentic Mexican cuisine, and this place passes the test. They brought out chips and salsa when we sat down, as well as Mexican coke. We ordered Tacos de Asada which came with rice and beans. The tacos included lettuce, onion, tomato, and sour cream. The steak was very good- not fatty at all. Also ordered the Nievas Fritas (fried ice cream) which was a great finishing touch. If I was rating on the food, it'd be a 5/5. The restaurant is definitely nicer than we had anticipated. A dimmed restaurant with booths and tables. The food was also a bit pricier than we thought it would be. Was it worth it? Yes! The service started off fairly well, but declined the longer we were there. They were decently busy, but not super packed on a Saturday around 4pm. There seemed to be plenty of people working, so the service decline didn't make sense. We will be back, though to get that last star...and some more tacos.

We celebrated Valentine 's Day at Mas Alla del Sol. The ambiance is very colorful and clean and the bar selection is impressive especially if you're into tequila. Their drink menu has an extensive list of tequila types from Blancos, Reposados, and Anejos. Practically everything we ordered from the menu was delicious and our server was very prompt and friendly. We started off with a crispy chicken taquitos appetizer topped with guacamole and sour cream. We then split a Tampequeno plate, which is a beautifully tender marinated skirt steak served with a cheese enchilada suiza, rice, and beans. We also ordered a 3 taco carne asada plate. The steak from both plates was tender and the marinade they use on the steak is simply delicious. Their house margaritas are made well and I love the cute cactus stemware they are served in. Pricing is a little high but the quality and portion size is worth it. It was a lot of food for the both of us and we ended up with leftovers. We enjoyed our time here and I look forward to bringing my parents on the next visit.

This used to be my favorite restaurant after a Colombian Restaurant went out of business. I didn't care too much about the prices if the food was good, but this last time I went, I noticed that the food portions got way too small compared to the fees you're paying. I ordered the carne asada mas all del sol, and I could count with my fingers the number of beans I got under the steak, about six beans. The tortilla soup is the only thing that is still very delicious. I ordered the churros because, with the small amount of food, I was still hungry, but the churros were terrible; they didn't have any flavor. I don't cook, and I think I make better churros than that. This was the last time I probably come to eat here it's just sad the food used to be delicious!

Very expensive for the amount of food that you get. We went for brunch and waited an hour and a half for food as everyone around us, who arrived after us, were paying and leaving (there were only 4 of us). We ate, asked for the bill and never saw our waiter more than 3 times the whole time we were there.

So the food here isn't bad, but the price point is high, and certain items are a miss. The Nopales were unreal, while the ceviche wasn't really that good. Sopa de mariscos was somewhere in the middle along with the fajitas. Good place for drinks, but pricey for food that's sort of a spin of the wheel of luck. Very good service, though!

The food is amazing! So is the ambiance and not just because it was Mother's Day and there were mariachis playing. Some of my favorites were frijoles de la olla which are typically served with bacon, onions and garlic straight from the pot. I also enjoyed nopales which is cactus served with tomato and onions. But the highlight was verdolagas or purslane, an excellent green eaten fresh in salad or cooked like mine was with the shrimp dish that I ordered. The presentation was beautiful and the choices are typical Mexican dishes that are spruced up to look divine on the plate and not so overly laden that you can't finish the meal, just delicious. I would have tried the huachinango a la veracruzana since the ingredients included olives which are a must for me. Great margaritas, guacamole with pomegranates and desserts that add just a pleasing touch. I opted for flan because the guava cheesecake was done for the day. Just enough to end a great meal. Authentic for the food I tried and mentioned and the service and prices are on point. I grew up on my grandfather's crispy beef tacos and tostadas and this is still familiar but next level. I found my new best Mexican place for casual and festive occasions and although it's a distance from this south-sider, I will be back.

I have never had a better dish at any Mexican restaurant. Would come back 100 times over just for this dish. I wish they would offer delivery!!
