"Masa Y Mas is a taqueria on South Lamar with a menu made up mostly of tacos, tortas, and bowls, all ordered by counter-service in a pretty large dining room. As you might expect from a place with masa in the name, all the tortillas are home made (including the flour ones), and you’ll find a variety of classic fillings, like suadero, carnitas, barbacoa, and al pastor cooked on a trompo. In addition to food, there’s also beer, margaritas, tequila, and mezcal, plus aguas frescas and a frozen spiced almond horchata." - Nicolai McCrary

Great chicharrones! Solid local taco spot. Fun vibe. Free parking. Solid salsa and taco options. I liked their beef better than their pork offerings. But they were all good! Loved the patio and the seats with the cushions. Will def be back for an affordable and yummy quick bite.

Google
So first of all they played my jams. So just by that I knew I was going to like this place. Then they have 3 salsas. And while they say one is hotter than the other I felt the only one that was spicier was the 3 🔥🔥🔥. I got carne asada, pork and barbacoa mini tacos. I didn’t like the carne asada tocos. They had some spice in it that I didn’t like.also woah they would have the option of fresh corn tortillas for the tacos The Charro beans were good, but I felt like they needed to be have more broth rather than the thick broth. It’s a personal thing I just don’t like the thicker broth, we also bought the corn and that was pretty good.

Google
An incredible restaurant! Just being visitors of Austin, we were looking for a good place to get birria tacos, and we definitely found it! Good atmosphere, great staff, and even better food! Walking in and seating ourselves wasn't a detriment like it might be at other restaurants. As soon as we seated ourselves, a waiter brought us waters immediately! Our waiter, Chris, was very friendly, attentive, and helpful when asked questions. We ordered the Queso and chips, elote, birria and carne asada tacos. All were extremely delicious! The elote was probably my favorite. Even the sided, refried black beans and rice, were better than most Mexican restaurants I've been too. All around, one of our favorite restaurants we ate at while in Austin.

Google
Cute cute cute. Exactly what you'd expect. Counter service spot, but has a bar - the all around TVs also make it a great spot to watch the game. The food was great, especially the street corn 🤍 didn't have a chance to try the drinks yet, but I loved that they had tons of mezcal cocktail options.

Google
New favorite place. The food was phenomenal and the salsa were amazing. They have 3 types of salsas you can help yourself to, and we ordered the tres comprades, which was guacamole, queso, and a type of green salsa that was super good too! The guacamole had pumpkin seeds, which made me immediately think "hmmm" but it was pretty damn tasty. The queso was good too. I wish they had better chips, they were the cheap store bought kind. I got the kids quesadilla on white corn (you can also pick blue corn or flour) and YUM! The type of cheeseyhey use was so flavorful. My husband got the meat bowl with beef and it was a huge bowl. The meat was seasoned just right. We alao tried the hibiscus agua and it was good, not too sweet. Like I said, this is now our new favorite place!

Google
At this moment these are my best Tacos I had tried in Austin. My best Taco was carnitas, then pastor, barbacoa & birria The one of carne asada is no the best ( I don't suggest to order) It's not easy to find a place that have good tortilla and flavor in more than one guisado. I have been trying other places and price is high and bad flavour.

Google
Cool spot but I got two tacos. The photo below shows the excessive amount of oil on my tacos. Made it not the best experience. Never had that much oil in a taco before. Kind of doesn’t make sense. My friends enjoyed it though

Google
What a great little taco shack. Great food. However, for the price, the quality of the flour tortilla needs to improve. The el pastor is also a bit lacking. However, we tried all of the other tacos on the menu. All were great. The salsa is excellent. The service is ok. Could be a bit more friendly. However, the hostes/register lady was awesome. Give it a whirl. It's worth a ride.

Yelp
My wife and I went on a date night. The food and service were outstanding. We are always searching for a great place for tacos that the whole family could go to. This is the place. I got the taco plate and had the Birria and match fried chicken taco. Although I loved the consommé, the matcha fried chicken stole the show for me, so good. We also had tres leches which is near and dear to my heart, especially when done well. I can't wait to go back and take the kids.

Yelp
Got brought here for dinner by a local friend, so it came highly recommended. Unlike some other popular and hip spots in Austin, there is plenty of reasonable parking space in front and next to the restaurant, which is a huge plus to avoid sketchy street parking. There is both interior and exterior seating and it's a chill vibe at this spot. Service is a sit down service and very prompt and friendly. We got a 3 dip chip sampler and the mini taco samplers. Their birria and al pastor meats are excellent and their mini tacos and quesadillas are very solid for the price as well. We were slightly surprised that they weren't more busy on a weekend but everything we tried down to the churros were great and definitely better than any chain taco spots.

Minh D.

Yelp
More like 3.5 Stars for whole experience. Food was 4/5 Service was 3/5 I had al pastor and carnitas tacos and my friends had a sampler plate of 5 mini tacos and a margarita. Tacos were fine but extremely oily, the tray I had was drenched in oil at the bottom. Service was slow and haphazard, server took forever to take our orders after we asked for a few more mins and another 10-15 mins after we asked for a check. The place doesnt feel very clean. Not my favorite place to dine at in Austin.

Alex K.

Yelp
They recently switched to being "full-service" vs just ordering at the counter and then bring out your food. This change makes the experience far worse!! It took twice as long to get our food than the previous system. Not to mention they had a single server for the entire patio. It took 10 minutes for anyone to even bring us menus or help us and we still had to get our own water. Pick a lane if you're full service or we have to get things ourselves. Previously we would have ordered right when we walked in and got our food so much faster. It became us waiting on them - not the other way around. This switch makes no sense to me and made the experience far less efficient and time consuming. The tacos are very solid so this review is mainly based on the service. Overall this switch will surly make us come less often. Hopefully management sees this and changes things back.

Ye J.

Yelp
Came here with our friend who's local and a regular. Plenty of parking available in their lot which is a huge plus for Austin. The interior and outdoor patio are spacious, bright and clean. To start, we got the tres compadres. The chips are seasoned well, thin and crispy. The salsa and queso had good flavors as well. The 5 mini taco plate was perfect to sample different meats. My favorites are the Birria and Al Pastor. The quesadillas were solid too. Overall very good portion for the price. We were full but there's always a little extra room for freshly made churros. Our server was friendly and attentive. Would definitely stop by again when we are in town.

Yelp
Masa y Más had great service we were greeted immediately. We had never been so they were very kind in giving us suggestions on what to try on our first trip there. We tried the Tacos, Queso, and Guac and they were al delicious the Pepitas on the guacamole were such a nice touch of crunch! I tried the agua de Jamaica and it was good but had a bit too much cinnamon for my liking. Overall it was a great experience, I would def recommend.

Milannie C.

Yelp
While driving down South Lamar trying to decide on where to go have lunch on a Saturday that wouldn't have a long wait, we came across Masa y Más. It was obvious they were busy, but we made the most of it and found the only table available outside and sat there while we waited for someone to come over and clean it. We also had to grab our own menus cause otherwise we would have been there forever. Had the carne asada taco and the mini quesadillas and they both tasted great. Asked for some spicy sauce and they gave me a container of green salsa. It wasn't as hot as I'd hoped but really tasty. Had the passionfruit mezcalrita and it was even better than expected. Overall, a good choice for tacos and drinks in the area.

Cristina T.

Yelp
Food was okay, the corn callejero had a sweet dark cream (nothing like the pictures). Completely changed the flavor of the corn. But for me, it's the service. 15 min to get any waiter to ask for drinks, the few waiters they did have were too busy cleaning tables instead of attending customers. We had to get our own salsa before our tacos got cold if we waited on our server. Better service, I'd consider coming back.

Kasy S.

Yelp
My wife and I stopped in a few weekends ago for a quick lunch. Service was prompt and friendly. Ordering at the counter was easy and you can order more food and refills from your table using a QR code. The ambiance is stylish casual with plenty of outdoor seating options for those sunny Austin days. We had the dip trio, with the guac and queso being the standouts. I had 5 different street tacos, and my favorites were the birria and al pastor. Finally, they have a decent beer selection and a full bar. My wife's passion fruit mezcal margarita was delicious. If you are in the area, I can't recommend Masa y Mas highly enough, especially for a lunch visit.

Ricky M.

Yelp
Super friendly service! Laid back classic Texas taco place. The tacos were aaaaiight & the rice/beans left much to be desired.

Jamie P.

Yelp
Yes yes and more yes. Finally got to stop by on a Friday evening for happy hour. The restaurant started to fill up as time passed. They have a walk up counter where you order your food or you can sit and order at the bar. They also have HH specials. We ordered a variety of tacos on flour and corn tortillas. Our favorites were the Al Pastor, camarones, and the carnitas. Get the margarita frozen or on the rocks, you can't go wrong. The vibe was fun and the service was great. We'll be back!

B. D.

Yelp
Just ate there. The server was super nice and did the best she could, as she was the only server. Had to walk up and get the salsa for the chips a d waited to be served. The carnitas taco wasn't good, but the carne asada and veggie tacos were quite tasty. They no longer have carne guisada tacos, so I won't be going back. But try it for yourself as you may enjoy it.

Trevor A.

Yelp
I love meh bro Christian! I love thy cooks! I will continually come here everyday because of those two!

Erin K.

Yelp
We visited for happy hour, which runs from 3-6 PM on Mondays through Fridays. There's an indoor area with some cute but simple decorations and an outdoor patio with a good amount of seating. There wasn't too many people when we came, so we were able to order immediately and get our food quickly. One thing to note is that we didn't get the happy hour pricing until we said something, so just double check that the pricing is correct! I got the Passionfruit Mezcalrita for a drink (not included in happy hour), and I thought the smokiness of the mezcal overpowered any of the fruity flavors in the drink, but it was still good and strong! We ordered the Tres Compadres (salsa, guac, and queso) for appetizers. The guacamole didn't taste super fresh, but everything was still decent. There's a salsa station at the front of the restaurant, which is convenient. For tacos, I ordered the grande birria taco and the grande carne guisada taco. My boyfriend ordered the grande carne asada taco and the grande pollo adobado taco. I enjoyed my carne guisada taco, but I wouldn't the others again. The birria taco wasn't crispy, and it was way too greasy and salty compared to other birria tacos I've had. My boyfriend thought the carne asada taco was too dry, and he thought the pollo adobado taco was too salty. Their happy hour deal is nice, but I thought the food wasn't that worth it.

Candace A.

Yelp
I must say, I've been so excited to try this place and I kind of wish I wouldn't have gone and just would have stayed excited about the possibility. This is an order at the counter spot, which is fine. Nice touch by the server carrying the chips and salsa to the table for us. I'm not sure if they always do that or if it was situational. Our table was not super clean when we sat down so that immediately had me feeling a certain way. We used a high chair, also dirty. The margarita tasted strong at first sip, I actually enjoyed our drinks! (Regular house margarita on the rocks). My husband got the 5 for $12 tacos and I ordered the meat bowl with birria. His tacos weren't anything exciting and lacking flavor. My bowl was nothing special either and also lacked flavor. I'd go back for a margarita - and probably on a Monday when they are $5. But I would skip the food.

Lauren G.

Yelp
First time checking out Masa y Mas and this is a more authentic version of Torchy's Tacos. If you like fast to-go tacos then you have to check this place out for a more traditional taco on Mexican tacos. They weren't the best tacos I've ever had in my life but they are much better than Velvet Taco, Torchys, etc. that are located in Austin. We also got the dip trio - their guacamole and queso are great! I love their queso. Next time I would like to try their margaritas here. I will be coming back for more.

Manny M.

Yelp
Cool, vibrant restaurant. The tacos were good and tasty. Fast and friendly service. And for those of you that enjoy an alcoholic beverage, $5 margaritas on Mondays.

Quin T.

Yelp
Jordan B. convinced me to give them another try and I am so glad that she did as we really enjoyed the food and the service this time around. When we initially visited Mas y Mas, they were fairly new and with most things, it takes some time to get your bearings and after our latest visit, they are on the right track. They were packed when we arrived which is great for business. Even though the register was busy, the employees still had a smile on their face and they were very nice. We had the pleasure of having Misael M. wait on us and he was so lovely!!! I appreciated his recommendations and for helping me decide on my entree. Plus, he has a really beautiful smile! The grande plate, sonoran hot dog, queso and guacamole were all very good. I especially loved the fried cheese that topped the queso. They make their salsas fresh everyday and the flavors are habanero, jalapeño, and rojas. I love spicy food so the habanero and jalapeño suited me perfectly. If you are not particularly fond of spice, then the rojas is perfect for you. Do yourself a favor, do not leave until you have had a frozen margarita.

Scott D.

Yelp
Very good tradicional tacos in a quick casual counter service spot in the busy South Lamar corridor. We had pork, barbacoa, birria and chicken tacos and they were all very good. Tortillas are fresh and firm. The quezo was good too. Some easy free reserved parking and a nice covered patio outside. Canned sodas and aguas frescas, plus margaritas at the bar and domestic + Mexican beers with a decent selection,.

Amanda M.

Yelp
It's expensive for what you get- particularly the margs. However, the margaritas were good and only $5 for a small on Mondays! ($10 for the double) They got my order wrong and told me I could always order more instead of just fixing it. Not a huge deal, but not excellent. The brisket tacos are pretty 4 types of salsa line the fridge. The jalapeño was my fav! The queso is torched on top, so like a hybrid queso and flameado. It isn't particularly romantic or vibey, but it's be a good place to hh with coworkers. You hear it's free chips and salsa on Tues! And taco hh M-F gets you a few bucks off.

Christina H.

Yelp
When I first came to Masa y Más, what sold me was the employee who took our order. He was incredibly passionate and really knew everything about Masa y Más, including their food sourcing. Ingredients are as fresh as they can be! I've tried the Al Pastor and the Barbacoa de Cachete, along with the Elote Callejero. My personal favorite was the Al Pastor, which is really not a surprise as it's a classic. Meat was tender with basic ingredients that gave those classic Latin flavors (cilantro, lime, red onions). Though there is an entire salsa fridge for patrons to choose from, you really didn't need it! Heads up: tacos are street taco sized, which means order about 2-3. I also ordered the Elote, as I saw several reviews raving about it, but didn't have the authentic zhush I wanted. The indoor seating here KILLS ME. Minimal seating either meant for couples or solo eaters, which is the opposite of what the Latin culture is about! Outdoor seating caters to groups of 3+, but who really wants to sit outside in 100+ degree weather...

James K.

Yelp
We ate here for dinner on Wednesday and enjoyed it. We were able to walk right up to the cash register and order immediately, then they brought our food out pretty quickly too, which was nice. Inside of the store was very well kept & clean. As for the food, it was solid. The blue corn tortillas on the shrimp/camarones tacos was delicious and a nice change up, and I liked their guac as well. My fiancé also liked her tacos and preferred the Al pastor over the barbacoa one (the barbacoa was good but greasy). Prices were reasonable too. We would eat here again!

Soseh P.

Yelp
This place is super cute & has outdoor sitting ( love that for fur parents ). We went for lunch on a Thursday and it was super fast. You order at the register and they bring your foot to the table. I got the following: Watermelon Fresca - it was refreshing just a bit on sweeter side Birria Taco - very tasteful and their consume was pretty tasty. HONGOS Y PAPAS (v) - this was okay nothing wow about it but for someone who may be vegetarian this is a good one to have Brisket taco - the meat was overbearing for the size of the taco. It brisket was tender but it was just bit too much meat for me. Service was great and we will be back to try more. I did see a sign that on Mondays margaritas are $5 .

Annabelle G.

Yelp
Family vibes with nice service! We got the birria tacos both mini and large - tacos were subpar, have definitely had better in austin and consume didn't have as much flavor as I usually like.

Kaycie Y.

Yelp
Masa y Mas was our last stop after leaving 2 other overly crowded restaurants. We were grumpy, hot, and starving. Luckily, it was $5 Margarita Monday! We order our margs, the tres compadres, a suadero bowl, and 2 tacos (pastor and suadero). It's first come first serve seating and we were lucky enough to snag the last booth! Our food comes quickly, like, 4 minutes after sitting quickly. Tears almost filled my eyes as it was a full house and I assumed it .was gonna be a wait. The food was good! The margaritas were cold! My hangriness disappeared instantaneously! It was kind of hot in the building, I hope they're able to improve that for their team as it gets hotter throughout the summer.

Dominique E.

Yelp
I give this place a solid 4 stars. Like any other taco joint in austin, it's pretty good but could be better. To start, this is an order first then sit down joint. I got the birria quesadilla and it was a good portion as I took some home because I couldn't eat it all. The queso is tasty and they have fresh juices at the front. I appreciate that there is a dedicated parking lot for this place because South Lamar can be a little crazy. I definitely would love to come back during happy hour - they have $5 margaritas!

Brandon K.

Yelp
Solid taco addition to the neighborhood with a great happy hour. We came for lunch on a Monday (they are now open Mondays!) and were very happy with our orders. For starters, I love a place that has a varity of salsas. We tried them all. I think my favorites were the green salsa and the habanero but it's worth trying them all. I ordered the queso (on HH, which I think is all day Mondays but not sure) and two tacos. The shrimp taco on the house made purple corn tortillas was fantastic! Any place that makes their corn tortillas will always be a step up in my book. I also ordered the special of the week which was good but not great. I probably should have gone with one of the other items on the menu. The queso was solid but I didn't love the top layer of cooked cheese because it just seemed to break the chips since they are on the thinner side. All in all, the meal was great, prices are in line with pretty much every other taco restaurant in town and all of the workers were top notch. We'll definitely be back.

Sally D.

Yelp
First time here. Pictured here is a beef birria street taco on corn in front and a grande beef cheek (locally called barbacoa) on flour. Hubby had a pastor on flour (we saw them slice the meat off of the trompo) and carnitas. It was alllll so delicious! This little margarita packed a punch and so did the habanero salsa. The tortillas are handmade right there in front of the kitchen. And the music rocked! Cumbia, salsa, norteño, tejano and some other styles I couldn't identify but all upbeat and danceable. Great little venue. I'm so glad we finally checked it out! Note: The tacos come in 2 sized: street (3") and grande (6") I got one of each size but the street taco was stuffed full and next time I'll pass on the grande and get 2 small ones.

Blaire B.

Yelp
Authentically Mexican food, with 40 years of family history, done the traditional way, every single day. They're nixtamalizing corn for tortillas, handmaking them fresh each morning, and doing all the traditional proteins the right way. I'm talking carnitas in Manteca Madre, al pastor shaved fresh off the trompo, quesabirria tacos with consommé and queso chihuahua and nothing else. Every dish is a star, and with the street taco plate, you don't have to choose! Try 5 of the proteins for just $12. I also really love the shrimp taco, the tempura batter is SO light and really crispy. It's counter service, there's parking, no wait, and a full bar! What more can you ask for? Plus, the clean, bright interior and colorful decorations really transport you to Mexico. Great happy hour, too!

Brianna E.

Yelp
Went here yesterday for cinco de mayo. Everything was great! They had good margaritas, and the food was good too. I like that they have sampler plates, so you can try multiple tacos. Only suggestion I have is when you guys serve the Mexican martinis, don't put ice in the glass, just put it in the shaker. This way it doesn't get watered down and is served up like a true martini. Can't wait to come back and try more food!

Lauren S.

Yelp
Can't wait for more Austinites to discover Masa y Mas! I think people will appreciate the salsa varieties, friendly staff, and the restaurant's story as much as I did. Sitting on the patio here was a wonderful way to welcome the spring. I had the breakfast tacos and want to come back later to try the lunch/dinner menu and the drinks. I dined with a friend who really enjoyed each of his al pastor, carnitas, birria, and hongos y papas tacos. The queso was alright, but there are much better queso options in town. Portions here are very generous, so after eating 2 tacos, I was very satisfied and did not have much of the chips and queso anyway.

Alex L.

Yelp
I'm going to start with our biggest complaint - masa is the first name of this place and is half of the restaurant's name, but the masa tortillas were just... slimy? They were so slippery to touch, while the outside ring of the tortilla was really hard. It was like they made the tortillas a few days ago and just kept them in the fridge and just use them straight from the fridge without heating them up. I wish they didn't taste worse than straight-from-the-bag corn tortillas. Al Pastor - A bit above average al pastor for me. I won't come back for it, but it was good! Birria - This taco didn't suffer from the bad tortillas so these are already a favorite. It doesn't come with consommé so it isn't quite an authentic birria experience, but dang was it really good. I heavily recommend this, and well birria tacos in general Pollo Adobado - I wasn't expecting much out of this taco but this was an easy 2nd place out of my 3 tacos with Al Pastor trailing far behind these two. I would definitely get this and birria again. Salsas - Three salsas were available to me initially. Verde was the best, followed by Orange, and trailed by Habanero. Habanero has a decent trailing spice to it, but the habanero salsa has such a strong nutty flavor or something that makes it just... not for me. I managed to try creamy green later on and it was alright. Overall, not hugely into these salsas. I wanted to try the chip and queso but I saw clearly store-bought chips in photos here with mediocre looking queso so I opted against that. And finally, the rear seating area was closed down so we were all squished in the front seating. Wasn't ideal and I found it odd that a place that just opened is already closing sections of seating. Oh and value... these tacos are $5 each. Not a good deal when you compare them to other $5 tacos that are quite a bit larger. It's just an adequate price. Overall, this place has the meat game locked down. Tortillas can use a huge improvement - these tortillas will probably be the reason we don't come back because some of us are tortilla fanatics. I kinda wish the salsas were improved too, but I know how polarizing salsa tastes are so whatever.

Gina C.

Yelp
I had high hopes for Masa y Mas! We've driven by this cute restaurant so many times and decided to stop in for lunch on a Saturday. We ordered multiple tacos and a round of queso. The queso was extremely chunky with the pico, making it hard to scoop. I'm also not sure if they scraped from the bottom or top of the queso barrel but there were lots of patches of cheese that wasn't melted and not pleasing to eat. The tacos were juicy and lots of flavor - however, I also felt sick while eating them with the amount of grease. This might not be the taco spot for me but it had a super cute interior, bright walls with lots of salsa options! Definitely worth a try!

Zach W.

Yelp
Food is basic and not very flavorful. Also, the service was lacking. They forgot to cook my order and then I needed to leave, I requested to cancel just that part of the order and they acted like I couldn't. Not really anything about the experience, food or service was very good.

Amber H.

Yelp
I drive by several times a week, finally made plans to eat here :). Sooo good!!! Love the authentic taco truck style food. My friend and I loved it all: margaritas, birria taco, pastor, barbacoa, shrimp, and of course chips y queso say at the bar and was given lost of attention by staff Also all tortillas are made in house: white corn, yellow corn, blue corn, flour

Yvette T.

Yelp
Hidden GEM! My hubs and I tried going to Matt's El Rancho first, over an hour wait at almost 2 pm, so we left, I was sad, wanted their queso and marg... BUT we went to Masa y Mas, HOLY COW!!! If you haven't tried this amazing place, you are seriously missing out! I'm a Rio Grande Valley girl and this place hit all the right spots, their margaritas are dangerously delicious and the food, OMG, the food, try the Al pastor and the Pollo abogodo, amazing! Can't wait to go back and try more! Pic of plates is because the food was so good we don't even get a before pic! This place should be jammed packed, decor is beautiful but most importantly the food is delicious and the people working there are wonderful.

Daniel S.

Yelp
Living off South Lamar I was super excited to see a new taco shop open up as the pickings are slim in these neck of the woods. The first things that stands out right away before you walk in is the colorful murals and the ample amount of parking spots but don't let this fool you as this place is always packed! Luckily when I came in for a late lunch it wasn't too bad and was able to order right away. The menu is simple but offers enough options for everyone whether your in the mood for tacos or a bowl a margarita or an Agua Fresca which is essentially what we had. My Birria bowl had a little of everything and was perfectly balanced on flavors while my partners opted for the pollo adobado and & the suadero tacos. Food came out super quick and the bus boy checked in and cleared our table when needed. Obviously I think like any new restaurant I think there small kinks there working on and there tacos & bowls didn't blow me away but it was quick, tasty enough & priced right so I for one will be coming back.

Jake S.

Yelp
Food was okay. Nothing amazing. Queso is fine. Tacos were soggy and messy. Service was pretty poor. Atmosphere was normal Mexican restaurant vibes. My water glass was dirty to start and was replaced and still had something on it. Not a fan of their check out experience where the options for tip started at 20% button and went up from there. And it's awkward having the waiter hover because if you don't choose a button option they know. I would go to other Mexican restaurants in town. Better options.

Yelp
I have been anxiously awaiting the opening of this restaurant, and today (1) it was opening day; (2) I was nearby; (3) I was hungry. All signs pointed to my enjoying lunch at Masa y Mas. This location has been home to many restaurants in the past--remember Austin Pizza?--but I was awed by the beautiful transition to Masa y Mas. There is a very nice outdoor dining area, and the inside is bright and airy with high ceilings and lots of windows that admit exterior light. Really pretty. It is a casual restaurant where you order at the counter, and your meal is delivered to you, wherever you are sitting. I tried the Camarones Fritas--Cerveza Battered Shrimp, Cabbage, Chipotle Mayo, Pineapple Pico, Radish, Avocado, Blue Corn Tortilla. Mine did not come on a blue corn tortilla, but otherwise, it was very tasty. The taco had four shrimp, which were lightly battered and fried. It was so full, I could not fold it over to eat it; but I am not complaining. Had to try the chips and queso and, hey, there were several bottles of tequila so, yeah, add a marg, rock, no salt to my order. The margarita arrived with salt, but there was a straw, so I slurped it up. Bartender did not skimp on the tequila. :) Chips were good--thick and crispy, maybe made in house?--and the queso was yellow and dense topped with pico de gallo. I didn't intend to, but I ate it all. The service was good and friendly, and one of the owners, Chuck, came by to introduce himself and make sure things were good. They were. I think this will be a great place to stop by for a quick bite or linger on the patio with some drinks. The menu looks interesting, and I'll definitely be back to try more items. Good luck, Masa y Mas, and welcome to the 'hood!

Yelp
More than any other food, tacos define the Austin dining scene. You can't walk a block without stumbling across another taco truck, full scale taqueria, or random cafe that simply has tacos on the menu. Still, there's always room for more; mucho mas. Enter: Masa y Mas. Brand new on South Lamar and already generating a steady buzz. They're making their tortillas on site, which is reason enough to be excited. It's traditional Mexican fare with an upscale vibe and a modern twist, including some vegetarian and easily veganized options. I was sad to miss out on the coliflor fritas (fried cauliflower,) but at least this gives me an excuse to return. The hongos y papas (mushrooms and potatoes) san queso provided a tempting taste of what's to come. Savory portobello sauteed with Brussels sprouts, spinach, and potatoes is even better if you order guacamole on the side (no cheese) and slather that on top, too. Brussels sprouts are a must-order side (again, no cheese, no aioli) for their uniquely sweet glaze, crispy finish, and tenderness all the way through. Garnished with crunchy pepitas, it's an amazing value for a satisfying app. In conclusion, if you don't feel inclined to eat tacos, maybe that's a you problem, because these are always welcome by me.

Yelp
Came here at 4pm on a Saturday the weekend they opened and it was busy! Parking - as others have mentioned, it's a tight parking lot and a popular spot. My husband and I took Evergreen Street then Mary Street while going north bound on Lamar and we were able to park in the back parking lot. If you're in a pinch with parking, you could probably street park on either Evergreen or Mary Streets and walk over. Seating and ambiance - you order at the front then take your seat with a number. There's some seating outside and smaller booths and high top seating indoors. We have an infant and although it was tight we were able to sit 4 plus our car seat in a booth. People with kids, I'd recommend finding a seat then ordering as seats were limited. The venue was clean and orderly. Food - I got two tacos and a side and found that to be enough food. I liked the Al pastor on the blue corn tortillas. The suadero taco wasn't the best I've had, and I wished I'd gotten something else. I will say that it's hard to find frijoles charros in Austin so any spot that has them gets my stamp of approval for authenticity. I hope to try them next time! The menu seemed to have plenty of vegan/vegetarian tacos as well. The service was speedy even on a busy day. There was a line when we arrived at 4pm but it moved quickly.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I stopped by to eat lunch here today and we wish we hadn't. It should have tipped us off when we saw that the restaurant was practically empty when we got there but we gave it a chance anyway. Silly mistake. We each ordered the Grande Combo Plate (it comes with 2 "grande" tacos that are actually just normal sized, and a side of rice and refried black beans which we substituted for the charro beans). I got the barbacoa and birria taco, and he got a barbacoa and carnitas taco. Each combo was $12. The birria taco didn't come with consomé, or cheese as was stated on the menu. They claim their tortillas are homemade, but they don't taste or look like it at all. The tortillas were kind of gummy which indicates that they didn't warm them up long enough on a skillet/comal because they didn't have any toasty browned or darkened spots. Tacos were bland. We couldn't detect any seasonings, probably because they didn't use any. The beans were basic, nothing outstanding. But THE RICE.... well, the rice was undercooked. It was crunchy and flavorless. We each took a bite and left the rest on the plate. It tasted like microwave instant rice that wasn't microwaved long enough hence the CRUNCH. Rice shouldn't be crunchy!!! Crazy that a "Mexican" restaurant is serving their guests undercooked microwave rice. It was really bad, I can't get over it. We also ordered an elote, and regretted it. The mayo had an odd grayish tint to it in certain spots. Not sure if that was intentional or not. But if it was intentional, I just have one question: why? It definitely wasn't worth $5. If you want elote, go to Hay Elotes on 7th street instead, not only is it cheaper and tastier but it is Latino owned. We each ordered a drink, he got a michelada ($5) and I got a coffee carajillo cocktail ($8). The michelada wasn't memorable, probably because it tasted watery. The carajillo cocktail was good but when I ordered it, the staff had no idea what that was. They thought I was ordering an off menu cocktail and they had to call over the manager. I had to show them on the menu what I wanted to order because they didn't even know they offered it. Despite all that confusion from the staff, the coffee carajillo was the only thing we enjoyed from our entire visit. It was good. The restaurant itself was nice with a decent patio area. It gave me the vibe that whoever designed/decorated the restaurant visited Mexico once and based it off of that memory alone. With the help of Pinterest. Overall, the food was just disrespectful. We left the restaurant feeling so upset at how bad the food was for $50. For $50 we could have gone to eat somewhere a whole lot better. It was disrespectful to call this Mexican food. It's crazy they advertise themselves as a cantina and taqueria when their tacos are such trash. Definitely doesn't have a cantina vibe either so that's misleading. But if you have no tastebuds or have never eaten Mexican food in your life, I guess this is the place for you. Knock yourself out. I'm sure you'll love it. We, however, will not be returning.

Yelp
I LOVE THIS PLACE!! The tacos were incredible, and so were the beans! My husband got the barbacoa tacos and elote, and he also thought they were amazing. The tacos taste just like the ones I would make from home, and it makes me so happy to know there's an authentic Mexican restaurant I can frequent in Austin. Also, purple tortillas - so cute! The staff here is all so great, and I adored the decor they had. I truly felt so at home here, and I'm already looking forward to going back for more tacos.

Yelp
I finally got around to trying masa y mas for lunch last week and am so glad I did. The space is nothing fancy but lots of great options on the menu and the couple of taco's I tried were all great. Definitely give the house made salsa's a try as well.

Yelp
Location - on south lamar, not a whole lot of parking for the amount of people that were there and very tight spaces. Fast and casual ordering at the counter. The outside patio area is very nice, covered in a tent and well lit. Unfortunately, a lot of their stuff was sold out by late dinner time, the two tortas I tried were the only ones remaining. Mushroom Torta - In general the bread/bun was super soft and fluffy, however, I felt the general flavor of the torta was a little bland and dry. There was a lot more bread than filling and the filling itself was mostly the taste of mushrooms and avocado. Fried beef cutlet torta - Great bread as well, but still felt like the sandwich was a little dry. Could be personal preference though that I would have preferred a little more sauce. The fried beef cutlet itself was crispy and tender.

Yelp
Is a nice new modern clean taco place. Quite a great menu with counter order and pick a seat. Nice big patio to enjoy some great tacos and a marg!

Yelp
I ordered the hongos y papas taco on blue corn and the betabel rostizado (beets) and both were quite tasty. This place is more fast casual (with prices to match) so I'm impressed that they deliver more unique offerings like interesting vegetable side dishes that you'd expect to find at more upscale establishment. Place was busy on a Tuesday evening but there is plenty of seating indoors and parking outside, and service was fast. A great bang for the buck.

Yelp
Lotta hype for this restaurant given it's lineage and it's crowded even for a weekday lunch. It's about the going rate for non-street tacos, although arguably most of the meats lean more towards a street taco in simplicity. The masa part of masa y mas definitely holds true. The tortillas are great here, especially the blue corn. The flour tortillas are pillowy soft too and build a great base for the tacos. As for fillings, al pastor was the best of the bunch that we had - flavorful, tender pork cradles perfectly in the taco, with sweet pineapple laced throughout. The fried shrimp were crisp and they were accompanied by crisp cabbage, just enough sauce and again some nice sweetness from the pineapple. The birria was honestly a bit disappointing - meat was tender and seasoned well enough, but the consome is not birria like at all, nor is the tortilla dipped in that red grease yet the taco is still hefty as expected. Chips and dip combo lets you try everything and I wish they made their chips in house given they are masa y mas, but the chips are run of the mill. The guac is good (nice touch with the pumpkin seeds), queso has good goo and flavor (with some crisped cheese on top) and the salsa...was honestly just ok (bit weird ice cold). Drink wise, horchata is great. Not too sweet and definitely refreshing on a hot day. All that being said, does it live up to the hype? Sorta...definitely better and definitely worse tacos in Austin, but on the whole, it's still delicious.

Yelp
Amazing tacos and margs! I truly think it is one of the best queso dishes in town and completely customizable. Large patio and indoor dining space. Order at the counter and they will bring the food out to you. Definitely recommend checking out for a casual, fun meal!

Yelp
I saw a story about this place on KVUE and Yvonne Nava raves about it so I thought I would give it a try. It did not disappoint. The Pastor was legit and authentic, you can see the meat wheel from the bar. I literally wanted to try every taco on the menu but I can only try so much. Also had a bol with carnitas that was so good. Salsa selection was great. Service was awesome Anamaria took care of me the whole time as well as the other staff. Very clean inside, and out. For the location, parking was decent. Not super busy for a weekday lunch trip. Prices are a little higher for authentic tacos but for the area I would consider it to be a good value. Highly recommend-can't wait to go back and try more! You'll never go back to that garbage at Torchy's.
