Mascogo Tacos - Review - Decatur - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"Pop-up stand graduate Mascogo hosts a regular crowd of Agnes Scott College students, neighborhood families, and taco lovers in its Decatur brick-and-mortar (though it’s more of a super bare concrete wall than anything). While the tacos here can’t compete with the bangers on our best taco guide, they are solid and good enough for a quick, budget-friendly bite if you’re in the area. You can get three for $12, with 13 protein options like vegan chorizo, chicken tinga, and our favorite, the juicy barbacoa. Plus, they’re heavy-handed on the tequila here, so it’s a great pre-game spot to post up with a margarita in one hand and a chip covered in spicy jalapeño queso in the other. Food Rundown Jalapeño Queso It’s creamy, spicy, and better than your average queso. video credit: Juli Horsford Papas Con Chile These potato wedges come dripping with garlic aioli and a little bit of spicy salsa macha. It’s a good appetizer, especially if a strong love for potatoes runs in your veins. video credit: Juli Horsford Enchiladas Verdes De Puerco Skip this. Despite being covered in a salsa verde, the enchiladas are so bland that not even the good rice and beans on the side can save it. Tacos All tacos are served on housemade corn tortillas with onion, cilantro, and salsa verde. The pollo asado and barbacoa are the most flavorful proteins, so make sure to get those." - Juli Horsford

You've got to try this new dish at the restaurant, it's something different but so delicious! It's the kind of flavor that will have me coming back here for sure.

Best tacos I’ve had in Atlanta! Full of meat, flavorful and the tortilla stayed intact. Great service and very personable bartender! Looking forward to the next visit.

Ya'll we had the most Decatur Foodie Friday ever!! First we decided on tacos so we hit up @mascogotacos just outside Downtown Decatur. The service, drinks, and food were really good. The meat in the tacos was well seasoned, tender, and well cooked. The variety of tacos is also very good. The restaurant dishes up the following: Chorizo, al pastor, barbacoa, Pollo asada They also have many vegetarian options with or without the use of veggie meat, which is really cool. Mascogo Tacos is located at: 📍910 W. College Ave Decatur When we finished our tacos we were down for dessert as always lol and found The Cereal Lab in the middle of Downtown Decatur.

Came on a Thursday and the place was slammed but had the absolute best service and the best mezcal margarita of my life. Also the tacos were insanely incredible. The barbacoa melts in my mouth! The Al pastor were unbelievably tender and vibrant flavoring. Absolutely everything I’ve been looking for in a taco spot AND PRICED WELL! 3 tacos for $12 ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! 😭😭😭 these yummy tacos?? I hope the pricing stays the same it’s gonna be a spot I come to quite often tbh

UPDATED REVIEW: Owner verbally abuses staff, was operating with no liquor license, and drinks on the job. Do not support this business for the employee's sake. Not worth the food :( Amazing staff, phenomenal food, great atmosphere and the drinks are perfect. Such a great new spot!

Ordered to go. The tacos were amazing. The enchiladas were awesome. The Rice and beans and the crispy potatoes were really good. This will be a regular stop when I’m in the area.

Wow! Incredible Mexican food. So authentic and yummy. I had the enchiladas which are to die for. My wife had three different tacos which were also incredible. Mascogo is our new go-to FAVORITE in Taco Town!!

Recently moved to the Oakhurst/Eastlake hood and have been trying multiple restaurants in the area. Thus far, none have disappointed and the streak continues with Mascogo. The salsa macheteada had wonderful flavors, not overly spicy so as to take away from the overall taste of the dish. The only knock would be the “store bought” chips. Good flavor and spice level for the spicy margarita. The star of the show was and as it should be, the tacos… we both ended up with the pollo vulcan, carnitas, and al pastor. These tacos brought back the memories of a trip to CCMX that we took in February. I don’t often find carnitas with crispy and browned edges. The pollo vulcan should not be missed. The adobo for the al pastor was spot on. Kudos to Mascogo. Great food, service, and atmosphere. Can’t wait to come back and try the other 9 taco offerings.

Yelp
I made the mistake of ordering queso, and it was by far the worst I've ever had. It was so watery it practically needed a straw. No flavor, no texture, no effort, just a sad, soupy mess pretending to be queso. If they can't even get melted cheese right, I can't imagine what the rest of the menu is like. Don't waste your time or your money. Ps: Their bar is closed? I was wanting a yummy margarita but ended up getting cheesy soup.

Yelp
A really sweet and delicious Mexican spot near Oakhurst. We stopped in on a whim for lunch on a Saturday and settled in at their spacious bar and chose from their extensive menu with plenty of options ranging from vegetarian to authentic. The chips and queso were quite outstanding, and her huarache con frijoles was delicious. However, my chicken mole, perfectly rich and spiced, was perfection, served along rice, beans, and the best thick and homemade corn tortillas I've had in a while. Service was equally as nice and homey. Beware - this spot currently does not have a liquor license, which is a shame since I bet they make a killer margarita. However, there is a beer and wine shop down the street for BYOB provisions, for those interested. A good option for really good Mexican in the area.

Yelp
I was literally feening for tacos yesterday and started googling spots nearby and found. A spot I literally pass all the time. I drove over and grab some tacos and let just say I was not disappointed at all! Like the food was extremely up to par. The atmosphere was really chill they were to busy so that was cool. The bartender addressed me with water which is rare. So I was def appreciative for that. I will def be going back to try more of their other food options.

Yelp
Been following Chef Craig for a few years now and his food never disappoints. Definitely worth a visit for bomb tacos and tasty drinks!

Yelp
Very cute place. Food was average, at best. Spicy guacamole was good and flavorful. The queso was fairly bland and non-descriptive. The enchiladas Verde had lots of tortilla and not a lot of pork -- I definitely would not order it again. Server was very sweet, but somewhat inattentive.

Yelp
This Mole right here was made from abuela herself. I don't play about Mole. Oh and It's Mo'. Le', not like what you got on your face. Anyway mole 9.5/10.

Yelp
The food and service was amazing! Prices are also amazing . The flavors burst in my mouth. The food was hot like I prefer and just melted in my mouth. Nice place for a self date or group date

Yelp
Was out and hungry and stopped in this place on a whim because the reviews looked decent. Now I'm kinda wishing I'd gone to the pizza place next door. Servers were pleasant and the ambiance was cute, but the food was very meh. The spicy queso was barely flavorful, definitely not spicy. Me and my gf both had a three taco plate. As a vegetarian, she enjoyed the flavors of the smoked mushrooms, but the taco itself left much to be desired. The other two veggie tacos were very bland...especially the cactus (which she said was gross and much closer to okra in terms of texture). I had the smoked mushrooms as well and didn't like it at all (didn't finish it). I kinda enjoyed the spicy carne taco because it at least had a little heat but, again, the flavor was missing. Same for the carnitas. There wasn't even any salt or pepper on the table to make it better...and the one house made hot sauce they offered was super bland. The elotes were decent tho. All in all, it was very mid and we won't be back.

Yelp
Mascogo Tacos was a pleasant surprise. I thought ok another taco place. It is another taco spot, but the real deal. The food and service were excellent. I would put them in my top 2 or 3 taco spots in Atlanta!
