"This diminutive eatery, located on increasingly happening Hverfisgata Street, shifted focus away from its original Nordic-Italian concept and now serves a collection of seasonal small plates that don’t fit in neat little boxes. There are dishes like grilled pork belly with wasabi grown in the East Fjords, a selection of lunch-only tacos on house-made flour tortillas with fillings like scallops with mole, and an innovative list of original cocktails." - Nicholas Gill

Super cute atmosphere with amazing food! We had French onion dip that was so flavorful and decadent. The fresh mozzarella and tomatoes were fresh and delicious. Very friendly and accommodating bartender/server. Wish we had time to go back for a cocktail!

This is hands down the best restaurant in Iceland and probably my favorite restaurant in Scandinavia. The cuisine is not “authentic” to any country, but the flavors dance in ways that make you smile with joy and excitement. 10/10 i recommend this place for great drinks and even more amazing food. PS: I also want to thank the phenomenal staff who clearly take pride in their food and it shows in the excellent service

Mat Bar in Iceland provided an incredible first dinner experience. The steak with chimichurri sauce was amazing, and the black martini was both delicious and uniquely different. It's a standout choice compared to most Icelandic restaurants, offering a refreshing twist on dining.

We felt very welcome at Mat Bar and enjoyed a generous and tasty sharing menu made of three courses picked by the chef. Two out of three of the dishes were vegetarian which was a nice (and healthy surprise) and everything was simple and yet original as they integrated local ingredients in new combinations. The open kitchen and music were also great additions, making us feel even more at home. Simple, tasty, generous!

The food is amazing and one of the best experiences we had in Iceland. Could be 20% cheaper because of the low key decor of the restaurant bar and the small portions of food. Apart of that there was a waitress that she pushes the clients to make their choices. I m anxious person but she was worst than me. Not just with us because I heard the table beside of us as well. Apart of these small details the restaurant is good and I really recommend it. Again, nice food and well presented.

Managed to get a bar table from walking in on a Sat night. Great flavours in the food. Tapas style dishes with a twist of middle eastern flavours. The cauliflower dips with flatbread was amazing! Kale salad was also really good.

Mat Bar crushes the tapas plates. Beautifully prepared bites that pare nicely with their selection of wines. The grilled lamb and cured lamb were off the charts delicious.
