Matsunori Handroll Bar - Review - Long Island City - New York - The Infatuation

"Matsunori Handroll Bar, a hand roll spot from Boston, has their first NYC location in Long Island City. They have options like a miso cod, snow crab, scallop, and A5 wagyu from Miyazaki. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Will Hartman

Matsunori Handroll Bar in Long Island City is one of the best sushi experiences I’ve had in Queens. The concept is simple but executed perfectly fresh handrolls made right in front of you, served immediately so the nori stays crisp and the rice is warm. The space itself is sleek, minimal, and modern with a relaxed vibe, great lighting, and a friendly, attentive staff that takes time to explain each roll as it’s served. The menu offers a variety of both classic and creative options. The Tuna Handroll and Salmon Handroll are fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The Salmon Ikura Handroll, topped with marinated salmon roe and lime zest, adds a refreshing burst of flavor. The Eel Handroll with kabayaki sauce and ginger was another standout slightly sweet and rich. They also have more elevated options like Wagyu Beef, Miso Butter Cod, and Shrimp Tempura with Mango Salsa, which feel indulgent but worth every bite. Everything is made to order, so each roll arrives individually, keeping the experience interactive and engaging. The ingredients taste exceptionally high-quality, and the presentation is thoughtful without being pretentious. Overall, Matsunori Handroll Bar is a must visit if you love sushi or want to try something new. The quality, service, and creativity make it one of the top dining spots in Long Island City casual enough for a weekday dinner, but special enough for a date night.

Google
Absolutely incredible experience! From the moment we walked in, the service was warm and welcoming. The chefs were skilled, friendly, and clearly passionate about their craft. Each handroll was made fresh to order, and the quality of the fish was top-tier—so fresh it practically melted in my mouth. I highly recommend the Miso Butter Cod—unreal flavor and perfect texture. The crispy seaweed and warm rice were the perfect combo. You can really taste the attention to detail in every bite. Great ambiance, fair pricing for the quality, and an overall memorable dining experience. Can’t wait to come back!

Google
I recently discovered this place in LIC and absolutely love it! Definitely one of the best hand rolls in the area. The fish is all fresh, and the hand rolls are good portion size. I also like that they are willing to accommodate requests for less rice, and there are quite a few add-on options. Highly recommend for a date night or even a quick meal!

Google
I’ve been here at least 5 times. I’ve lived in NYC for 11 years, have had countless sushi/omakase experiences and this place is hands down my favorite. Freshest fish and perfect proportions. A++++. Every bite is bliss. The butter cod might be the best bite in the city. Run don’t walk to Matsunori!!

Google
Absolutely loved this place! Everything was incredibly fresh, and every dish was beautifully presented. The flavors were authentic and well-balanced, especially the miso butter cod. The staff was warm, attentive, and made us feel very welcome. The ambiance was calm and elegant—perfect for a relaxing dinner. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a top-notch Japanese dining experience!

Google
The first time here and while the service was great, the rolls were just ok. The only really good roll we ordered that was great was the miso buttered cod roll. That was amazing. The lobster roll tasted like octopus. The scallop roll didn’t taste as fresh as it should have been. The portion is a good size. Probably 3-5 rolls per person is about the average you should order. The price while decent just didn’t reflect the quality. Or maybe it did. The other lovely quality was our host. A tall fellow with brown hair and a lovely deep voice served us. He was great. 🥴

Google
As someone who often eats sushi, I have to say the fish here is incredibly fresh, and the soy sauce is uniquely house-made. I never expected to find such high-quality Japanese cuisine in LIC!

Google
I had a pretty good experience at this new Handroll joint during soft opening. Simple decor and chill vibe with good services. We were seated at the bar which I like to be able to see them making the temaki. Started with Chawanmushi which took a bit long to come out. On the raw roll we tried King Salmon, Toro, and Scallop; they were fresh and appetizing. We also got the Eel and Miso Butter Cod. While the eel was okay but the cod was quite good, tasty and melts in your mouth. It’s a good addition to the neighborhood.

Yelp
What an incredible addition to Long Island City! This sushi hand roll spot completely blew me away. From the moment I walked in, the attention to detail was clear--clean, minimalist space, super friendly staff, and an atmosphere that lets the food speak for itself. The hand rolls? Absolutely next-level. The fish was incredibly fresh--melt-in-your-mouth quality--and each roll was made to order with precision and care. The presentation was beautiful too, with a focus on simplicity and balance that really highlights the quality of the ingredients. You can tell they care about what they're serving, and it makes all the difference. Every bite was delicious, from the crisp nori to the perfectly seasoned rice. Whether you're a sushi lover or just looking for a standout meal in LIC, this place is a must-try. Spicy Scallop and miso cod were my favorites

Yelp
Decided to try this new place last weekend and it was so good! The rolls came out fast and service was super friendly and attentive! Some rolls were ~$18 which is pretty pricey. I ordered: - A5 wagyu: 4/5 Super tender and flavorful but it didn't blow me away. - Miso Cod: 5/5 This was absolute favorite! The cod was so buttery, flavorful, and perfectly flaky. - Spicy crab: 3/5 Creamy and well-seasoned but seemed pretty average. - Spicy tempura shrimp 4/5 Loved the crunch of the shrimp and you definitely got a kick from the spice. - Spicy Scallop: 4/5 The scallop was fresh and melted in your mouth. So delicious. Overall, the food was delicious and the service was great! However, I do think the prices are steep and not sure if I would be willing to pay that price again.

Yelp
Very good selection of handrolls, albeit they were very expensive. 5 handrolls costed around $89 with tax and tip, and it was not super filling. The quality of ingredients was definitely top notch but I think the combination of ingredients did not mesh well together. Miso butter cod was super flavorful, but the toro was a less fattier cut (Expected o toro for the price) and did not add much flavor. The shrimp tempura was super messy with all the flavor combinations, the wagyu was nothing special. The scallop was good with the yuzu salt though to bring out the fish. Overall, the handrolls were pretty but the price does not match the taste

Yelp
Unfortunately my return visit to Matsunori was a flop. Service was kind but the food was simply not up to par. The most expensive roll I ordered was a complete let down as the toro seemed to be straight from the freezer (way too cold). Probably will not be going back a third time.

Yelp
Great sushi resto only does hand rolls. Nice inside w open kitchen . Very stylish inside and small place. Service was fast and informative. The food was good. Truffle edamame was a food starter. Then we had 4 of their rolls. The best was the miso cod but the spicy tuna was a close second too. Definitely worth a try .

Yelp
Absolutely delicious handroll bar. The portions of the fish are huge and so well-priced. I love how spacious the restaurant is and how attentive the staff is. come hungry because you'll want to eat your way through their menu! The miso butter cod roll was such a standout item for me. I also loved the freshness of their scallop handroll and the flavors of their eel handroll. Def recommend if you're in LIC.

Yelp
This place has to be my all time favorite handroll place in queens right now. Everything was super fresh and the presentation was really simple and clean as well. My boyfriend and I stopped by on a whim one day due to a sudden sushi craving and I do have to say, I think we got lucky getting a table on the spot because the restaurant filled up soon after (definitely understood why after we started eating). We got a couple of rolls to try: The Eel Handroll was nicely smoky. The Botan Ebi Ikura Handroll had a very nice crunch from the sweet shrimp and was lightly fishy from the ikura (not overpowering). The A5 Miyazaki Wagyu Handroll was good but it was definitely one that I could've skipped. However, the Uni Handroll saved that set. The Uni was perfectly buttery and creamy and it was nicely sweet. The Blue Crab Handroll was just okay, I might just prefer my crab to be warm so it could just be a preference thing. The Spicy Scallop Handroll was super fresh. I love scallops so I really enjoyed this one especially since the scallops were lightly sweet however, I do wish the chucks of scallops were a little bigger. And last but not least the Toro Mushroom Handroll. I just want to start off with I do not like tuna or mushrooms, we ordered this handroll specifically for my boyfriend but it was my favorite out of all of the handrolls we ordered. We ended the night on a crème brûlée which was also perfect! The food was great, the staff was great, the vibes were great, this place will definitely be my go to Handroll place in queens! Also, one thing I really appreciated was it did not feel like these handrolls were just stuffed with rice. The rice to fish ratio was very generous.

Yelp
Hubs and I came post-work on a Wednesday, we didn't need a reservation and we were seated right away. The staff was friendly and spot-on with their recommendations. Also the interior is dimly lit with nice seating. Handrolls range from $6-$15; we tried the spicy salmon, spicy tuna, snow crab, miso cod, and wagyu. All were fresh, flavorful, and beautifully balanced and presented. The seafood quality is top-notch. We left full and happy! Definitely on the pricier side, but worth the splurge.
google avatar

Yelp
Tasty and fresh handrolls! Staff was friendly and explained the menu, and suggested about 4-5 handrolls per person. I ordered: - Mango salmon - Yellowtail - Miso butter cod - Snow crab - Toro jelly My favorites were the toro jelly and miso butter cod. The snow crab was pretty good too. They definitely don't skimp on the fish! It was a bit on the pricier side though as each one ranged from $7-$17. No reservations, walk in only. Would definitely come back

Yelp
Tempted to gate keep but honestly the best hand roll place I've been to in the city!! Miso buttered cod is a must, also was a huge fan of the salmon mango one. Also tried the matcha tiramisu for the first time and it was amazing. Everything's fresh! Not stuffed with rice! Super quick service and they're really good about allergies too. We got seated right away pretty much Good place for dates or groups!

Yelp
They really need a better queuing system as they do not take reservations. I walked in and asked for a table for two and they told me that they were clearing it out. I checked back in and they gave up my table to other groups so I ended up having to wait an additional 45 minutes for no reason. They do not sets of hand rolls, but rather individual. The spicy scallop was probably the best. The spicy tuna and spicy yellowtail were way too chopped up for my preference, so it was hard to taste the fish. It makes me think that it could be a lower quality fish... The restaurant itself is also very small, so be prepared to wait.

Yelp
I came here last night after work as I was craving sushi and I heard about this new local restaurant on Instagram. This restaurant only serves hand rolls that range from $7-$19. The restaurant is small but surprisingly pretty spacious and the tables were spread out. I walked in around 8pm and I was seated very quickly at the bar table. I like to watch the chefs as they make different hand rolls. I started off with the salmon cups, which are 4 small pastry cups topped with a salmon pate. Then for my hand rolls I had the spicy salmon, miso butter cod, toro mushroom and the A5 wagyu. Both the raw and cooked hand rolls were amazingly fresh and delicious. Some rolls are pricey but it's worth it. There are some extra add-ons for an additional fee but I did not try them. My server was Carol and she was so attentive and always asking me how my food was. She even spent a little bit of time talking to me about the restaurant and how they've been open for about a month. I look forward to coming back here in the future

Yelp
Once you enter there's a host that takes your information down and they will contact you once there's availability. I requested a table and not for bar seating. This was on a Sunday night and the wait wasn't bad at all, as they predicted it to be around 30 minutes and it turned out to be around 10 minutes. I asked how long they have been around and it's their soft opening right now. They have been opened for a month and a half. Once they get the kitchen right, the grand opening will happen. I ordered a few rolls and some appetizers such as the A5 wagyu (delicious), the snowcrab, the yellowtail and mango salmon roll were all fresh. For appetizers, the salmon cup (4 tiny bit size cups) and truffle edamame were ordered. I thought everything came out in a timely manner. I just thought the service could've been a bit better.

Yelp
Fresh, flavorful, and worth every bite. Matsunori Handroll in LIC delivers on quality and execution. The service was friendly and efficient, and the vibe is sleek but casual. Favorites were the miso butter cod, toro with mushroom, and the A5 Wagyu beef handrolls -- each one was packed with flavor and perfectly crafted. Highly recommend for date night or catching up with friends. I'll definitely be back

Yelp
Came on a Saturday at 7 PM and there was no wait for bar seats for the two of us. I tried: + Spicy tuna - great + miso butter cod - highlight #1 + spicy scallop - highlight #2 + Salmon - skip + Toro mushroom - excellent + Ikura - skip + Iced hojicha latte - great Great addition to the neighborhood! 4.5 stars.

Yelp
Matsunori Handroll Bar is a handroll spot, originating from Boston, and offers a variety of unique handrolls and some appetizers. After seeing this spot open in LIC, I had to try. The interior has both bar and table seating for you to enjoy your meal with a friend or larger group. Service here is very attentive and fairly quick. I ordered the salmon cups, the spicy and regular scallop handrolls, the crab roll, ebi roll, lobster roll, toro mushroom roll, and miso cod roll. The salmon cups were definitely a must-try and not only delicious, but a great value for the price ($9). The portions for each of the handrolls were so generous, ingredients were so fresh, and I loved the garnishes and pairing for each fish/protein. Favorites were definitely the miso cod, lobster roll (you rarely get lobster at sushi/handroll spots!), and the toro mushroom. I thought it was delicious, amazing value, and would definitely come back.

Yelp
I've been living in LIC for years and was super excited when this spot opened. I dropped by on a random weekday--it was surprisingly packed, but I was offered bar seating after just a five-minute wait. I ordered the following: Chawanmushi (steamed egg, ikura gel, scallion) - $6 Salmon Cups - $9 A variety of handrolls (e.g., miso butter cod) - $10 Matcha Tiramisu - $9 I love egg, and the chawanmushi was delicious--light and savory. That said, the ikura gel hadn't fully set and felt sticky, which threw off the texture a bit. The salmon cups were fine, but the cup itself was a bit too floury and dense for my taste. Now, the handrolls? Genuinely excellent. The miso butter cod roll is a must-try--rich, flavorful, and balanced. The matcha tiramisu was also a standout--creamy, subtly sweet, and a great way to end the meal. Overall, the food here hits the spot. Service was seamless, and while the appetizers could use help, the handrolls are absolutely solid. I'd definitely come back if I'm in the area and craving sushi.

Yelp
Im so happy this place is in LIC!! Came on saturday with my husband and I could not find anything negative to say about it. Service was extremely attentive/efficient without being intrusive. Decor is upscale yet comfortable and spacious. I ordered 5 piece while my husband got 6 piece of handroll, each one was packed with extremely high quality fish, you have the option to add uni, cavier or foie gras to each piece for about $9 extra. While each roll might seem expensive, the quality and quantity justify the price in my opinion. I could not pick a favorite piece as they were all super delicious!! I also love that they take out each piece and wait for us to finish before bringing out another piece. I think a lot of thinking went into the pacing and which piece to bring out first for each guest, since my husband ordered one extra roll, they paced it in a way that i didnt have to sit and watch him eat. I hope this place stays and Ill prob go every month!!

Yelp
Matsunori is a new hand-roll spot in LIC - which got me super excited because prior to that, I'll always have to go to Manhattan for my craving! Location/Interior: 4.5/5 - it's only a 3 min walk from Court Sq station! - the restaurant isn't huge but has quite a lot of seatings for the space - interior is simple & elegant Food: 3.5/5 - the hand rolls at Matsunori is actually larger than other hand rolls spots in Manhattan. But I notice the flavor of the standard hand rolls are quite plain & can be improved from quality and flavor standpoint - the specialty hand rolls (I.e. miso cod, uni) are quite worth it for the price - will recommend ordering specialty hand rolls when visiting :) Drink: 5/5 - tea IS refillable here FYI - so it's not a bad idea to share the pot of tea with your friend Service: 4.5/5 - perhaps because it's still soft-opening, I notice the segregation of duties isn't clear between staffs yet. So we will get asked the same question twice by different staffs - the service is great otherwise - the staffs are passionate about the restaurant itself Overall - if you live in LIC and are craving hand rolls, this place is for you. But I personally wouldn't travel far for this spot.
google avatar

Beryce G.

Yelp
The highlights: - hand roll portions were overall generous - staff was super friendly and attentive - fish was high quality - uni was really yummy and was probably my favorite. Toro jelly was yummy but I wish it had slightly more ponzu jelly - matcha tiramisu was light, not too sweet, delicious - pretty casual ambiance, great for big groups of around 5-6 Room for improvement: - seaweed needs to be crispier. my party and I found the seaweed to not be that crispy, which made it a bit difficult to bite through the food. I'm not sure if it was because there were longer wait periods between each hand roll or maybe because we chose table seating instead of bar seating, but something was off about the seaweed for all but one of the hand rolls I tried here. If they could improve the seaweed and make it crispier/lighter, I really think it would add significantly to the overall taste of the hand rolls. - as much as I love the big portions, I can't help but wonder if maybe the experience would have been better if the hand rolls were broken into smaller portions (for example, 2 smaller hand rolls instead of one giant one -- with reasonable pricing of course). The big size of the portions made it difficult/messy to eat and I also wonder if maybe the moisture from the rice and fish were affecting the quality of the seaweed (and this combined with wait time/distance from where we were sitting might have made the hand rolls a bit chewier rather than crispier) Overall, it's a good hand roll place with a lot of potential. I'd probably stop by again if a friend wanted to try it
google avatar

Vy T.

Yelp
I also ordered some simple hand rolls that aren't pictured: salmon, yellowtail, and tuna. I also ordered the egg with ikura gel for an app. The egg was expected and good. I wasn't a huge fan of the ikura gel, didn't taste too much like ikura to me. The simple rolls were bigger than other places I've been to, but the quality of the fish itself was not as good as other places. I find the fish was served colder than I wanted, so the fish flavor was mild to me. The standouts are the special rolls. My favorite was the spicy scallop! The buttered miso cod was also good. I would revisit and try other special rolls.
google avatar

Brian T.

Yelp
I had an unforgettable experience at Matsumoto Handroll Bar! The staff was helpful, welcoming, and very knowledgeable about the origins of the ingredients. Kes & Rick were exceptional hosts and masters in the kitchen. The menu is masterfully crafted and the fish is exceptionally fresh. We heard that the owner goes to the fish market every morning to get the freshest supply and it definitely shows! Although I enjoyed all of the rolls, my favorites were the Wagyu, and the Toro Mushroom. Those are must-tries!! It's in a convenient location and well decorated space- could definitely be a great spot for a date. I will for sure be returning!
google avatar

Jasper L.

Yelp
Everything tasted super fresh, and the service was friendly and attentive. The standout item for me was the Miso Butter Cod -- perfectly cooked with a melt-in-your-mouth texture and rich, savory flavor. It's easily one of the best dishes I've had in a hand roll spot. Highly recommended!!
google avatar

Wendy D.

Yelp
The menu isn't very large because they specialize in hand rolls, but the mango salmon hand roll was hands down my favorite and we ordered it multiple times. I also really enjoyed the eel, and the miso butter cod was highly recommended but I thought it was too buttery for me. We also tried the toro mushroom which was good but I actually liked the mango salmon one better still. Great ambience, you can watch them make your hand roll if you're at the bar. The waiter is very attentive, and also very friendly. The place is definitely pricier but would come back!

Khine Zin T.

Yelp
I've been to Matsunori a couple of times now, and I really enjoy it. It's one of my go-to spots since it's pretty close to my school super convenient for a quick stop after class or even a chill dinner with friends. The restaurant isn't that big, but the atmosphere is cozy and relaxed. The vibe is nice, the food is fresh, and the servers are also attentive. It's also such a cute date night spot. I've tried most of their menu at this point, but my absolute faves are - miso butter cod, - spicy scallop, - the lobster, and - A5 wagyu. The miso butter cod is a must-try; it melts in your mouth and has the perfect buttery flavor. I will definitely come back soon!!

Yelp
4.5 stars We went around 6pm for a late lunch; there wasn't a wait for a table but the restaurant was almost full, it's not that big.. They give you the option of still, sparkling or tap. We chose tap but luckily they filter their water. We ordered one Chawanmushi to share. It's small but I just wanted a taste. Really light steamed egg, L enjoyed it a lot...good but I didn't care for it, I'm here for the hand rolls... Our waitress said to order an avg of 4-5 Handrolls per person so we ordered 3 to begin... Miso Cod, Spicy Scallop, and Caviar for me and A5 Wagyu, Toro Mushroom, and a Maine lobster roll that was not on the menu for L. The Spicy Scallop, Toro mushroom...was delicious.. so fresh. And yes there is a lot more protein than other hand roll restaurants..esp the ones I've been to. It's pricey since some of the special rolls are $17 but it was so good...L liked the A5 but I don't think it stood out that much. It could've had more fat, maybe a tiny touch of finishing salt.. The lobster roll.. that was good, better than the A5 but that's my opinion. Caviar.. hmm I like Caviar. So I enjoyed it but L isn't a huge fan so he didn't care for it. The Miso Cod was good... but I've had miso cod from Nobu and other good restaurants...is it better? No... not compared to them. It's a lil too saucy for me and not charred enough but it's still a tasty handroll, but I expected more based on the reviews. We also had a bottle of sake, which I normally don't care for but it was actually pretty good. It went well with the rolls. Obviously still hungry and we wanted to try more anyway; we ordered the Spicy Shrimp Tempura, Snow Crab for me and a Mango Shrimp Tempura and a Spicy Tuna for L. The Spicy Shrimp Tempura was really good but L liked it so much I gave it to him and he gave me his Spicy Tuna which was still good but I would've preferred mine. The shrimp tempura was at least a good portion since they add avocado and tamago. Snow crab is just a small claw meat with tamago.. so skippable.. Spicy Shrimp tempura was bette, tastier than the Mango Shrimp. We finished the meal with a Matcha Tiramisu. We're both not a fan of Matcha but this was very good. Not too sweet but just enough. I could've had a few more rolls since some of the rolls we had were so good but I was picking up additional food close by.. Service was great. We never had to wait long for anything. Our waitress tried to converse with us more than it was necessary just to be even more attentive. Not a cheap meal but we enjoyed it. Def get the spicy scallop, Toro mushroom...so good.. spicy shrimp tempura..

Yelp
This was a really great experience, most of the handrolls were surprising in some way, but all of them were absolutely delicious. My favorites were the miso cod and the spicy salmon, but the ebi had an amazing crunch and the eel, a nice searing and sauce. The shrimp was mixed with some cold things, which wasn't a pleasant balance, but somehow was still tasty. It's a very unique handroll bar and flavor experience. I'd definitely go back to get some other handrolls!

Yelp
My party and I came in and was warmly greeted by wait staff who were attentive and made good recommendations. We were advised that people generally 3-5 pieces, and menu offered a good selection of fish including: toro, salmon, tuna, blueshell crab, and even cooked cod. There was no wait for a party of 4 on a Saturday night. My personal favorites included the spicy scallop and salmon mango. I found the portions to be generous as advertised on their website, and super fresh. My only complaint that is that the nori wasn't super crispy for all pieces, and that my blueshell crab roll tasted a little fishy. It would be nice if they also had a set for people to order from that can highlight some of their most recommended pieces with a slight discount.

Yelp
We tried this spot from a friend's recommendation. Be note this spot is walk-in only. We only waited about 5 minutes and we were seated. The music choice was really nice and the overall look was pretty upscale - though there was this one light that kept getting a little darker and lighter that was noticeable enough. Each of the hand rolls we got were around $7-$15 and all of them were delicious. I liked how they pay attention to us finishing each hand rolls before giving us the next one to prevent the nori from getting soggy. My favorite hand rolls were the spicy tuna and miso cod. And I also want to praise their service - since they are still tweaking their soft opening one of our hand rolls came out a little bit more than on the menu by accident so we ended up getting a complimentary crème brûlée which was really delicious. This place was so good and I can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Delicious local handroll spot! You can't go wrong with any of their rolls- our favorites were the miso butter cod, yellowtail, and spicy tuna. I would highly recommend the hojicha tea pot- nutty and tasty and they refill the pot. I wish there were just a regular toro option as the mushroom flavor overpowers it a bit. The matcha tiramisu was a yummy treat but a little small for its price.

Yelp
Went to Matsunori Handroll Bar with J on a rare Girl's Night Out. We were in the mood for some good grub and cocktails. Matsunori doesn't serve cocktails, but their menu looked great, so we decided to come anyway and I'm glad we did. It's a fairly small space but has a trendy, yet comfortable vibe. We sat at a table, but would love to sit at the bar next time so we can watch the chefs in action. They have a small sake menu, and a good selection of teas. We opted for sake (of course); Dassai 23 never misses. Somehow, Matsunori is my first handroll bar experience, which even I myself find hard to believe given its popularity these days (I need to get out more), but J said that compared to other handroll places, Matsunori's handrolls are much bigger with a similar price point to the other places. Each handroll is at least 2-3 bites worth of food. But before we go into the handrolls... appetizers. We had the seaweed salad which had cucumber in it. That was a nice addition, adding a crunchy texture to the dish. We also had the truffle edamame, which had good flavor but it was a little over steamed, in my opinion. Still enjoyable though and we finished the bowl. For the handrolls, I started off the ikura handroll, which was unfortunately a disappointment because of the sheer amount of cucumber in it. I could barely taste the ikura. For my second bite, I ate all the cucumber off it first. The scallop, foie gras and uni handrolls were all delicious though. The surprising front runner was the miso butter cod handroll - it's so good! I say this even as a miso cod lover; I was not expecting to like it so much. I'd definitely come back again to try the other hand rolls. Hopefully it doesn't become TOO popular to the point of losing their neighborhood restaurant vibes and walk ins not being allowed.

Yelp
I had a pretty good experience at this new Handroll joint during soft opening. Simple decor and chill vibe with good services. We were seated at the bar which I like to be able to see them making the temaki. Started with Chawanmushi which took a bit long to come out. On the raw roll we tried King Salmon, Toro, and Scallop; they were fresh and appetizing. We also got the Eel and Miso Butter Cod. While the eel was okay but the cod was quite good, tasty and melts in your mouth. It's a good addition to the neighborhood.

Yelp
My husband and I attended Matsunori's soft opening yesterday in LIC. What a great addition to the neighborhood! Perfect for either a date night or elevated casual night out with friends. The fish was fresh, the sauces light but flavorful, and the service (shout-out to Tina!) was friendly and quick. We opted to sit at the bar so that we could watch some of the action behind the scenes. We started with sake, and I ordered the yellowtail, scallop, salmon ikura, toro mushroom, and miso cod. My husband also got the scallop and miso cod, in addition to the salmon, wagyu, etc. First off, the sake we chose was not the best we have had and was a small bottle for $35 (I believe this was the cheapest bottle option). To us, the sake lacked some depth we are used to with other Junmai sakes. Not sure if we would buy it next time; we may instead try to see if Matsunori will allow us to BYOB. The handrolls we chose were all amazing though, with my favorites being the salmon ikura, miso cod, and toro mushroom. I think if we had to choose ultimate favorite, my husband would go for the miso cod, and I'd either go for the miso cod or salmon ikura. My husband also said that the salmon was really good on its own too. All in all, a great experience. We look forward to coming back and can't wait to try more handrolls!

Yelp
Absolutely incredible experience! From the moment we walked in, the service was warm and welcoming. The chefs were skilled, friendly, and clearly passionate about their craft. Each handroll was made fresh to order, and the quality of the fish was top-tier--so fresh it practically melted in my mouth. I highly recommend the Miso Butter Cod--unreal flavor and perfect texture. The crispy seaweed and warm rice were the perfect combo. You can really taste the attention to detail in every bite. Great ambiance, fair pricing for the quality, and an overall memorable dining experience. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
We saw an IG post about this location and being sushi lovers we def had to check it out. We arrived in time as soon as it opened on a Saturday and it can def get packed after an hour. Food was great! Small portions tho so it is recommended to have more than just one. I myself loved the spicy Shrimp Tempura and the Snow Crab was also pretty good!

Yelp
Handrolls are valid and delicious. I got the salmon, spicy yellowtail, and spicy scallop. Each were fresh and with flavor. The service was amazing. Carol and Juju took care of us and were very mindful of the table (napkins were always replaced, water was poured, dirty plates were replaced). I even got a complimentary Mochi dessert. So happy we finally have a good handroll spot in Queens!

Yelp
We loved Matsunori! High quality ingredients and service! We tried the spicy salmon, truffle avocado, miso cod, foie gras, and spicy shrimp rolls. They were all amazing but our favorites were definitely the miso cod and the foie. Also the wasabi, ginger, and homemade soy sauce were perfect accompaniments to the rolls. Least favorite roll was the avocado - I wish they had more truffle spread out through the roll rather than just in the center. Service was very attentive - Tina also gave us complimentary creme brulee for dessert! It had a nice taste of vanilla and the caramelized sugar top was perfect. We'll definitely be back here! Great addition to the LIC neighborhood.

Yelp
Not only the best sushi spot in LIC but also a great date spot to take your significant other. We came on a Sunday night and was able to walk in around 7pm. Vibes were good. Service was excellent. Need to steal the playlist from Spotify. We pretty much ordered almost everything on the menu, it was so good. Highly recommend the toro mushroom, miso butter cod, and the A5 Miyazaki wagyu. We finished the night with the matcha tiramisu which was absolutely delicious. Can't wait to come again!

Yelp
The food was above and beyond and just as good as the boston location. The fish was super fresh and it is clear that the staff cares about the food. The portions of fish to rice ratio were insane. The service staff is new as its soft opening but overall pretty good. The ambiance in addition to the teahouse is so much nicer and cleaner than the boston location, love the super modern atmosphere

Yelp
Overall, food and service were really good! Miso butter cod hand roll highly recommended, the rest of them were solid but nothing too special. Tried a few like scallop, spicy scallop, salmon, and yellow tail. The raw fish was slightly too cold (maybe since we got there for an early dinner, and still defrosting)

Yelp
10/10 experience! This place has a modern and moody atmosphere. All servers were pretty attentive. Our server Jasper was super helpful and recommended a few popular rolls which were all really good! We tried: truffle edamame, eel roll, miso butter cod roll, truffle avocado roll, foie gras handroll and green tea tiramisu. Everything was a big hit and you could tell the freshness in every bite! Definitely give this place a try if you are around the area! They don't currently do takeout or delivery to ensure the crunchiness of the seaweed wraps.

Yelp
Found this treasure handroll place in LIC! We walked in on a Saturday evening, waited for ~20 minutes, and we got seats at the bar fairly quickly. The food is very delicious and satisfying, the seafood is really fresh, nori perfectly crispy, decent amount of fish in each piece, and the flavors are spot on! My friend and I started with 4 pieces each and ended up adding one more for each. Such a nice Japanese restaurant and I would definitely go again

Yelp
The hand rolls here are amazing, everything is super fresh and perfectly balanced. The uni was incredibly creamy and sweet, definitely one of the best I've had. The A5 Wagyu roll just melts in your mouth. Everything tasted top quality and made right in front of you. Highly recommend if you're into premium hand rolls!

Yelp
All the rolls we got were so fresh and delicious! Everything came out so quickly and portion sizes were perfect. Juju was also super nice and gave us great recommendations! Our top picks were the miso butter cod, ikura ebi, and the toro mushroom - definitely have to get those when you come in! Also it is walk in only so plan accordingly!

Yelp
I've been craving for fresh hand-rolls and so happy I found this gem location in LIC. It was weekend and they were packed but it's worth the wait for our table. Our favorites were miso butter cod, spicy tuna, spicy blue crab and foie gras! They were all fresh and sooo good!! And as matcha lover, their matcha tiramisu is to die for! Ambiance and service are great! Highly recommended!

Yelp
Matsunori is a great addition to LIC!! Not many good sushi spots so very happy this is opening here. They have your classic hand rolls (spicy tuna, yellowtail, salmon, eel, etc) and some special, unique hand rolls (miso butter cod, foie gras, caviar, wagyu). We basically tried the whole menus and everything was delicious but the group favorites were spicy scallop, miso butter cod, eel, snow crab, and caviar. We also tried the chawanmushi (steamed egg) and truffle edamame--would also recommend both! Also really liked the soy sauce--it has a sweetness to it which was different but very welcomed. Would recommend.
