Matsunori Handroll Bar in Long Island City is one of the best sushi experiences I’ve had in Queens. The concept is simple but executed perfectly fresh handrolls made right in front of you, served immediately so the nori stays crisp and the rice is warm. The space itself is sleek, minimal, and modern with a relaxed vibe, great lighting, and a friendly, attentive staff that takes time to explain each roll as it’s served.
The menu offers a variety of both classic and creative options. The Tuna Handroll and Salmon Handroll are fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The Salmon Ikura Handroll, topped with marinated salmon roe and lime zest, adds a refreshing burst of flavor. The Eel Handroll with kabayaki sauce and ginger was another standout slightly sweet and rich. They also have more elevated options like Wagyu Beef, Miso Butter Cod, and Shrimp Tempura with Mango Salsa, which feel indulgent but worth every bite.
Everything is made to order, so each roll arrives individually, keeping the experience interactive and engaging. The ingredients taste exceptionally high-quality, and the presentation is thoughtful without being pretentious.
Overall, Matsunori Handroll Bar is a must visit if you love sushi or want to try something new. The quality, service, and creativity make it one of the top dining spots in Long Island City casual enough for a weekday dinner, but special enough for a date night.
