Me and my honey we're looking for a taste of New Orleans and we found this place on Google Maps. It opens at noon. We ordered the catfish platter, jambalaya, Cajun potato salad and Beignets with raspberry sauce. An order of beignets comes with three and they were so good that my honey ordered two more orders of beignets. Food was hot and fresh. Jambalaya was flavorful and it had the right amount of kick to it. When we are on that side of town we will definitely be back for more. Highly recommend.

So apparently NO ONE has had real southern food and it shows. Baby I’m from the swaps of Texas border line Texas and Louisiana and this is disappointing and appalling. I ain’t never seen no red beans and rice like this. Its watery and the beans weren’t even smashed like huh. The catfish was dirty and just not it. The fries def frozen fries thrown in the oven with tons of seasoning on them. And I like seasoning. The French bread could at least had butter on it or made into garlic bread. Oregonians truly don’t know food and it shows. This was a waste of money and time.

FANTASTIC FOOD. This place took me all the way back to New Orleans. We ordered a half gator half fried green tomato poboy and a half crawfish half catfish poboy and cajun fries. The gator is PERFECT, if you haven't had any, it is better than chicken. Also, the beignets are amazing, we ate them with blackberry sauce, raspberry sauce and a strawberry sauce. They owners are awesome people and treat you with great kindness. This is a forever place now on my list.

DO NOT HESITATE! The food is out of this world! My wife absolutely LOVES seafood, and she can't stop talking about how much this food reminds her of the food in New Orleans! I personally do not like seafood, so I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had quite a bit of alternatives. Not only is the food AMAZING, but the people who own the cart are great people. I got the fried chicken, and it is literally the most moist chicken ive ever had. The spices they use give it a nice kick. I will definitely be back many more times! I took pictures after already eating some of it, I couldn't help myself!

Oh. My. Goodness. I'm so happy we discovered Matt and Memere's!! Authentic food with a true New Orleans feel (and taste)!! We ordered a sausage poboy, half a muffaletta (severed on Leidemheimer bread), chicken and sausage gumbo and beignets....everything was delicious!!! We live almost an hour away but will definitely make this a go-to place when in Portland. Did I mention the Leidenheimer bread? That alone makes me want to give these folks all my money...

My wife decided on the Jambalaya from Matt & Memere's, and was kind enough to share it with me, as her serving made for a generous lunch. When I visit a new (to me) spot with New Orleans food, I have a hard time predicting whether the it will be pleasantly spicy and flavorful, or just hot for the sake of being hot. Fortunately, Matt & Memere's falls in the first group - all the ingredients working together, each with their own distinct flavors (including the rice), and nothing that is overtly painful to put in your mouth. Not being an expert in Cajun cuisine, I would be happy to use this spot as my baseline for judging any future meals. Realistically, I'd guess that I'll be returning here most often, because, if it ain't broke.... why go anywhere else? My only regret - not trying the beignets on my first visit. Looking forward to fixing that situation in the near future.

The jambalaya is packed w flavor and nice big chunks of meat that ya def can't miss. Did someone say crinkle cut fries...I'm there. Ask for it spicy and you get a lil dusting of heat nicely paired w ranch dip. Staff was super courteous and plenty of outdoor partially covered seating. There's even a few chairs surrounding a fire pit. I've driven by this spot lots and noticed all the food carts. Glad I finally got to try one. Would like to try a Po'boy next time or another Cajun classic dish. Kudos for bringing the South to PNW :)

I lived in New Orleans for a good amount of time and I have family there, so I was craving food from there. So, a couple of weekends ago I went there. I was soooooo excited! I wanted to order everything. I checked Yelp and their website to just make sure that they were open. It all said that they were, so we drove over there. Well, they were NOT open and we hung around for quite a while but they still did not open. I was so disappointed. We left. What else could we do? When you want étouffée and a muffuletta it's hard for me to want something else. It was a huge bummer for me.

The Wife and I have wonderful memories of New Orleans, we spent our honeymoon there. It is not hard to become a fan of Creole food and all the other options that area brings. That being said, good Creole food is hard to come by in the Pacific Northwest. Oh, it is around, but rarely is it memorable. It didn't take long to go from hearing about Matt and Memere's to actually standing in front of the menu board and salivating at the offerings. Fried platters, gumbo, jambalaya, fried pickles, catfish, shrimp, chicken, it goes on for a while! We've been here several times now and everything has been just perfect. The catfish, the shrimp and the fried pickles are a favorite of ours. Eventually we will work our way through the entire menu. As good as the food is, the service is even better. You feel appreciated for picking their food cart and as busy as they can get, they always have time to talk to you, make recommendations and help you pair hot sauces. The cart pod is nice, it is sandwiched between a small strip mall and a Chipotle. There is a large, covered area to sit and enjoy your meal.

I have been lucky to visit Nawlins several times in the past, I had a friend that went to Loyola around my 20th. What is not to love about the culture and food, the food, what can we say about the food, delicious in every form, even the chicory coffee. Enough about me. I am a sandwich freak, and the Bayou's version is AAA, done right, food should put a smile on your face, the crawfish & Shrimp Po'Boy, my buddy liked the catfish Po'Boy. Triple A, they were goooooood, that being said, I am smiling and thinking about my next visit and what will I get, Crawfish Etouffee, Gator Po'Boy or Catfish with a Crayfish Etouffee. They are legit Bayou, super friendly.

Matt & Memere's has some of my favorite gumbo in Portland. We decided to go pick some up last night and grab a drink at John's Marketplace while we were at it! I hadn't had any of their other items so we ended up grabbing some extra stuff and having dinner from this cart! We ordered: Gumbo Jambalaya Shrimp Po'Boy Salt & Vinegar Zapp's Beignets w/ caramel sauce Some of it was great and some of it I will just pass on next time. We really loved the Po'Boy and I was SO excited about the salt & vinegar Zapp's. You can find other flavors around town but coming across the salt & vinegar is rare! Of course, I loved the gumbo but the beignets and jambalaya fell a little short for me. The beignets were a little too dense for my taste and I wish the jambalaya had a little more sauce. All that being said, we will still be coming back again and again for that delicious gumbo and the Po'Boy! They really hit the spot! They have a lot of great options for the Po'Boy's and we will definitely try a new one next time.

I did not care for the gumbo, a far cry from that at Mumbo Gumbo and other favorite spots. It's too "soupy" and lacks some of the classic flavors. I visit carts about twice a week, the time to get your order here is on the highest end of the spectrum.

Love their oyster po'boy. It's packed with fried oysters and the slice of lemon definitely lightens it up. The fried oysters are so crispy and crunchy front the coating on the outside but steaming hot on the inside. The po'boy also comes with tomato, Mayo and pickles with some nice soft bread.

Seriously! Every food truck which I have tried in Sellwood has been amazing. And the same holds true for The New Orleans inspired Matt and Memere's. I have to tell you, I love red beans and rice with sausage. It is such a comfort food and after a long day spent walking around the neighborhood, it really hit the spot. The beans were so flavorful and the sausage while not extremely plentiful, was very tasty. If there was one complaint, I wish it had more sausage in it. But that's it. The service was incredibly friendly, the prices were very reasonable, and the food was good. What more could you ask for? If you are in the neighborhood, stop here and give it a shot!

My experience here was such a bummer because I was so excited to try this place. My husband and I came here with our two kids on a Saturday for dinner. We ordered a shrimp po boy and gumbo. The person who took our order gave us a pager that would ring when our food was ready to be picked up. Cool idea to avoid crowds around the cart. Fast forward 55 minutes, my tummy is growling and my toddler is long finished with her Mac and cheese from the cart nearby, so my husband goes back to get an ETA. Turns out our food has been ready for awhile, but their pager is broken, so our food sat while they waited for us to get impatient and come ask for it. The girl in the cart says she looked for us but didn't see us, which is why it just sat. Once we finally received our order it was room temp. The po boy was really bland and pretty disappointing. Perhaps it would have been good if it had been hot, but the shrimp were just so bland. My husband said the gumbo was okay, but that the gumbo I used to make is better (Emeril's recipe - I'm not creole chef). The whole meal was kind of meh. The service was bad. Maybe I'd try it again in the future to see if the food is good hot. The other reviews suggest the food is good.

I got a quarter Muffuletta. It was super tasty and had really good flavor. The bread was a good fluffy surrounding for the flavors within. The olive salad was tasty, but I felt like it could have been chopped a bit better. I'm used to things being just slightly soaked into the bread more, but it all tasted good and definitely met my needs.

Our first time visiting this food cart. We didn't order any food but my son wanted punch to drink. It was sitting on the ledge with the sodas The bottle was marked $.99 but the guy in the truck charged me $3.50. Such a disappointment as I know they clearly bought it at the Dollar Tree just next door in the same parking lot. With a dishonest markup I'll be taking my business elsewhere.

Best gumbo in town! This cart is the real deal-straight from the bayou cookin', friendly service, and a heartwarming tribute to loved ones. Their menu is loaded with Southern goodness (shout out to the fried green tomato po'boy- I don't see that being offered anywhere else in town) but you would be remiss if you didn't at least include a cup of their fabulous gumbo with your order. The roux has great depth of flavor, and is the perfect balance of smoke and just a taste of heat. Don't forget the *perfectly* sized beignets for dessert- you can eat them without wearing them, if you know what I mean. This cart is also located next to a HUGE bottle shop with a very nice bathroom. Get you some!

Another place that I've been to at least a dozen times now that is NEVER open. What gives? Edit... it's the only reason I come to this pod. All other carts are standard pod carts you see everywhere. Sad this place is never open.

So far I've tried the Beignets, the chicory coffee, the Shrimp Etouffee, and the Gumbo and they have all been excellent. The richness of the roux comes through in the etouffee and the gumbo, giving that nutty bottom note you come to expect. TFG came with Mrs. and she loved the gumbo quite a bit and the child loved the beignets, although they carried just a touch of the flavor of the oil. Maybe time to change it? Excellent value, tasty food, charming owners. Worth a trip to Sellwood.

I like to think of this area as hidden when you're living down the street from Reed. Being new the the PNW I was up to the challenge of finding this food cart area I drove by so often. So off goes the GPS and to an adventure we go. After driving around for 10 minutes. We ended up on Lexington and I knew the street 13 popped up on my earlier searches and we found it! Funny thing is my bf was looking up this place before we started our foodie mission. MTB, meant to be with po boys and beignets! I got the fried oyster it was so crispy in between the french bread. I opted for spicy brown mustard and Tabasco. But it was still missing that Cajun heat. My bf got the fried shrimp but he had food envy since he kept sneaking bites of mine. We finished off the meal with our hot and deliciously amazing donuts. This takes you back to that New Orleans feel where you're walking down the avenue eating fried dough out of the greasy bag. Powdered sugar everywhere, no regrets.

Growing up on the Gulf Coast in Alabama, I've had a hard time finding authentic New Orleans inspired food in PDX thus far, until I tried Matt & Memere's. The food is as authentic as it gets, and the owners are super friendly. The po'boy is hands down the best po'boy I've had in Portland, and the muffaletta is the best I've had since my last stay in New Orleans. If you are looking for food to bring you back to the tastes of home, or if you are looking to try New Orleans style food for the first time, I highly recommend Matt & Memere's. Thanks y'all!

Oh my goodness! Oh my goodness! I'm amazed there is such delicious creole food in Sellwood. My wife says their potato salad is the best she has tasted in a long time and that means something coming from a potato salad connoisseur. The rice and beans is rich and flavorful. Gumbo very tasty. Biting into the beignet brings back memories of visiting the Treme in New Orleans. I can't wait to try more good eats from what could be considered the best food cart in Sellwood.

It's not hard to find good authentic Cajun/Creole food in Portland ... it's next to impossible. This place nails it. Everything is authentic, down to the bread they fly in from New Orleans for the po'boys. Will eat here time and time again.

Closer to 3.5 stars. Stiff judgement here as my wife is Cajun and we spend time every year in the Lafayette area, and we know great po boys. Bread - very good, as it should be. Dressing - may be this is more New Orleans style but we've typically only had mayo/lettuce as pickles and tomato was a surprise. Was fine but we both picked them off (just not what we're used to/like). Remoulade sauce would have been great. Shrimp - perfect breading/batter but both were a touch undercooked. We checked several pieces and could see they still were a bit translucent. Could have used a bit more flavor but nothing some crystal hot sauce from home didn't fix. Potato salad was pretty good. Uneven spices in each bite but overall pretty good. Zapps chips - always good We'll come again but make up some remoulade and skip the pickles next time.

Food was decent but way too salty. More importantly, however, the woman working there during a pandemic had a face mask on only over her mouth, not her nose, which was shocking to say the least. They also use styrofoam to go boxes in this the year of our lord 2020, like it isn't well known that they don't biodegrade. I'll never in a million years return

I think maybe I just don't get it? I got a shrimp po'boy and Cajun fries. It was pretty good, but nothing that blew me away. However, I see all these comments from people from the South who love it, so I think it's just not my favorite style of food. It took about 15 minutes to come out, but considering that they need to to fry everything to perfection I'm willing to wait. The flavor was just a little flat to me. I was left wanting to cover it with hot sauce, lemon, and jalapeño.

This is my favorite food truck in all of Portland. With respect to all the others, I don't think you can find authentic creole cooking to this degree anywhere else, even in the sit-down restaurants. I try to visit about once a week because it's the only place I've found in the Pacific Northwest to get anything close to a proper muffaletta, but everything else I've tried on their menu was also great. The shrimp and catfish poboys are both excellent. I even love the gumbo and I'm not even a gumbo fan. It's actually difficult to make a mild gumbo taste great and they pull it off flawlessly. Plus the last time I was able to find a bag of Zapp's potato chips was in Georgia, which is a long way to drive for a bag of chips. Overall, if I had any complaint, I just wish it was open more often. Rollin' Fresh and some of the other surrounding food carts are also very good, but my heart sinks a little any time I see the window closed on Matt and Memere's on a visit to Sellwood.

On Friday I was trying to go to the Russian cart next door but they closed early. Fortunately this gem of a cart was open right next door. I ordered a shrimp po boy and small red beans and rice. That shrimp po boy, whoooo eeeee was it good. Great bread, good amount of lettuce and tomato, and the shrimp was perfect. Perfectly battered and fried shrimp is a thing of beauty and they accomplished it. Oh and a cup of chicory coffee... life is good

Everything is authentic and cooked perfectly! I am a true "Yat" from da Parish! Born and raised in Chalmette! As an expert on Cajun cuisine, I do attest that this is singlehandedly the BEST shrimp po-boy in Portland. Since I moved to Oregon in 2005 I have not ceased in my pursuit of God cajun food. Been to all of the present places and frequent several. Everyone puts their creativity and style in their food, but if you want an authentic shrimp po-boy, you gotta try this one! Anyone can make a shrimpsandwich, the two things that make the difference is the bread and the manner in which the shrimp are prepared. Both of which are outstanding here!! Keep up the good work. I believe that I have found my new favorite spot! BTW - Get the Pattons hot sausage patties and I'll be there at least twice a week!!

I ordered from here yesterday via grub hub. Memere was very helpful and friendly. She seems like a really nice lady. She took time to answer several questions I had. I ordered the large Jambalaya $14 and the beignets. Everything was excellent. Matt is from New Orleans so he knows what jambalaya is. The beignets were a little tougher than I remembered from my time in New Orleans. However that was over 20 years ago and at my age, memory can be a tricky thing. I hope to visit thier food truck sometime and get everything fresh.The jambalaya has andouille sausage, chicken and tasso a smoked ham (that was one of the questions I asked Memere). I would wholeheartedly reccomend this place.

THE REAL DEAL! I need more than 5 stars to truly rate the poboys, muffulettas and gumbo prepared by Chris and his wife. I searched for several years as a Louisiana transplant until I finally found this authentic food cart and will never again settle for less---you shouldn't either!!! The Leidenheimer bread is shipped in fresh from New Orleans, the perfectly-fried shrimp and oysters spill out of every poboy and the gumbo is hands down the BEST I've ever eaten. This couple not only knows what they're doing, they excel as well at customer service and kindly prepared a large order early for my luncheon. The delicious and perfectly packaged pralines were also a great take home treat for my guests. I would have taken photos (it was a thing of beauty!) but they gobbled all of it up too quickly! There are plenty of subs and hoagies and sandwiches around but if you want a POBOY , this is the place.

We lived in Louisiana for 35 years. Been in Gresham for 4 years. Been missing good Cajun cooking. Not any more. The food here is the real deal. Delicious! Authentic ingredients! Good people. Can't go wrong. So good!! If I could give them 25 stars , I would!

Sweet owners--- but really average and over priced food. Shrimp po boys are ok, batter that the shrimp was fried in tasted like a generic egg and flour based vs a Heavier cornmeal fry that I'm used to. Ingredients are average, bread was soft. Sandwich is not worth 10 dollars. Jambalaya was not good. Cooked in what tasted like uncle bens rice and barely any Cajun seasoning and not even a hint of heat. Wanted to like this place based on the reviews but I think people are just being generous.

Was ordering to go. After waiting for 20 minutes I was told it would be another 15 minutes. I cancelled my order. Might be good but I will likely never know because I don't want to take a chance waiting for almost 40 minutes - because I could just make it at home in the same tome.

We tried their shrimp po boy sandwich and a chicken po boy sandwich. And an order of the Cajun potato salad and it was all excellent. We were wanting to try the catfish po boy but they ran out of catfish and they were also out of oysters. But we will go back everything is homemade and made to order so it takes a little longer to get but it's worth the wait. They have the original po-boy bread flown in from Louisiana along with their sausage. So it's the real thing baby!

This is the best Poboy I've had outside of Nola. The catfish was hot, flaky and perfectly battered! The bread is authentic and so delicious! We tried the jambalaya, gumbo and red beans and rice and all were so yummy, but the star of this show was the beignets. Fresh and hot, they were pillowy and perfect! I can't wait to go back and have a Muffaletta!

Very good New Orleans food. We'll go again. The only thing missing is we weren't in Orleans. We both had the fried catfish smothered in crawfish etouffee, and loved it.
