Matt's BBQ Tacos at Great Notion

This spot is the MOVE for a quick breakfast/brunch on Alberta. Delicious, tasty, tacos at great value. All our tacos were amazing but the smoked brisket and their special housemade sausage over hashbrowns totally hit the spot. Love how well-equipped their self-serve stations are, and the sauces are so good too! Spacious outdoor and indoor seating. Don’t sleep on this location Portland!!

(9.2/10) Yeeeeesh, this place slaps. I mean come on, you are putting Matt's BBQ (which is already some of the best in the city) in soft tortilla. I would be more surprised if it wasn't as good as it is. The breakfast taco and the GOAT were fire. Wings and fries were good on the side but the tacos are the true star of the show.

Maybe it’s because I’m from Utah, where there are decent tacos and decent BBQ (admittedly borrowed from other states), but this was truly nothing special. Had the basic breakfast taco, pulled pork taco, chopped brisket taco, and pork belly taco. The pork belly taco was pretty great. The others were solidly mid. The flour tortillas sadly didn’t seem homemade/authentic. I don’t understand why this place keeps showing up on lists of the best places to eat in Portland. I really wanted to like it, but I didn’t, and neither did my group. I wasn’t drinking beer, and maybe that would have made them better.

Matt's BBQ tacos used to be great when they were small, but now they are big and just pump out the product. The place seemed cramed with tables and not too cozy. It is a great place to bring large groups of people, not a nice local bar for families. The entire operation, with food, is kinda discombobulated, order electronically here, go here, order electronically again for food, and then pick up your own food. Too much moving around. So why tip? Supposed to be great tacos, but they are OK, cheese burger tacos, smoked mushrooms taco, beyond burger, pulled pork, beef and cheese, not the same as the cheese burger, no patty. across the street is better. Great Notion Brewing is only a brewery. They love their sour beers. I am not a fan of sour beers. They do have a decent beer list, with limited cocktail options, there is a large patio, and the space that can seat plenty of people. Order from their electronic menu or step up to the bar. There is no table service except for drinks being served, which is fast, since they have nothing else to do. dirty disco ball above the vats, been there since Mashtun days.

The tacos here are consistent with the other locations. I did notice there wasn't any of the chopped jalapeño sausage tacos here (one of my favs). We got a variety of tacos including the breakfast ones, brisket one, and cheeseburger one along with the chips and queso. The Breakfast tacos were delicious (addition of egg and cheese). The pork belly one was super tender and so was the brisket. You also can't go wrong with the chips n queso.

This review is for the NE Alberta location inside Great Notions. Matt’s BBQ Tacos are the best in the city. My go to tacos are the breakfast and lunch pork belly tacos. Watch for the time and lines. But absolutely worth it. Street parking. Enjoy!

Tried them for the first time tonight and I think I had some high expectations considering their rising popularity with the Netflix special and all. • Love the texture of the tortilla. • I personally like a little more bite to my meat. I know people usually like soft pulled meats but i don't like it when it's mushy. Maybe I would've enjoyed it more with something crunchy, maybe like some onions? Idk, it's just my opinion. My tacos got pretty soggy and I couldn't really enjoy it. • Smoked pickled jalapeños were interesting! • I think I prefer a nacho dip now because of them. No more soggy chips!

Super yummy tortillas, tasty meat-yum! The tacos and queso were all perfect. Really good service, too, and super fast and easy. Our new favorite Matt’s location because we love Great Notion, too!
