The 7 Best Pie & Mash Shops In London - London - The Infatuation

"You get the feeling that many of Maureen’s regulars quietly dream of being adopted by the tough love gang of matriarchs who run this pie and mash shop. The self-described cockney food bar has been doling out quality pies and salt beef for over half a century on Chrisp Street Market, and first-time visitors can quickly gather why. The doorstop sandwiches are springy and meat-filled, while the pies have a genuine depth of flavour in their gravy. This mince isn’t bare, it’s bathing in sauce. And the luminous liquor (not too gloopy) has handfuls of parsley as well as a MasterChef-inspired touch of mint." - jake missing

Maureen’s Pie & Mash - Review - Poplar - London - The Infatuation

The self-described cockney food bar has been doling out quality pies and salt beef for over half a century on Chrisp Street Market, and first-time visitors can quickly gather why. The doorstop sandwiches are springy and meat-filled, while the pies have a genuine depth of flavour in their gravy. This mince isn’t bare, it’s bathing in sauce. While the luminous liquor (not too gloopy) has finely chopped handfuls of parsley and is so subtle that it wouldn't look out of place on MasterChef. Look around the white-tiled, caff-like space and you’ll see a mix of young and old, head down, spoon in hand. Just as it’s always been. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch" - Jake Missing

The Best London Restaurants With Their Own Delivery Service | Eater London

"‘Cockney food bar’ Maureen’s is one of London’s best remaining pie and mash shops, having traded from Chrisp Street Market for over 50 years. While so many belligerent pie shop owners refuse to move with the times, Maureen’s is one of the few to have launched a nationwide delivery service, set up by one of the shop’s customers. As a result, it’s now easy to order chilled minced beef pies with flaky pastry lids, mashed potato, vivid green liquor, and essential chilli vinegar in bulk. The move also makes perfect sense, considering so many pie and mash lovers have moved out to Kent and Essex." - Jonathan Hatchman

Pie and Mash Shops in London | London’s Best Pie and Mash | Eater London

"Touted as a ‘cockney food bar,’ Maureen’s has been a staple of Chrisp Street Market for over 50 years. Originally operating from a site at the Commercial Road end of the market, the newer shop is clean and spacious but has less traditional interiors. The pie and mash served here is some of the best in London, nonetheless. At under £4, pies are well-browned and packed with beef soaked in thick gravy, mash is exceptionally smooth and the liquor has a dark green complexion, possibly embellished with a whisper of mint." - Jonathan Hatchman

Google
Visited Maureen’s for my first ever pie and mash after seeing it was pretty much the highest rated spot in East London for the dish. I was not disappointed! The ladies behind the till provided a great service and were really friendly when I explained it was my first time having traditional pie and mash. The food was absolutely delicious, the pie had great flavours and I could see that all the pies were freshly made on site. The mashed potatoes were really smooth and lovely, and the liquor sauce was great too. Really fantastic experience all around and I’ll definitely be paying another visit soon.

Google
I can’t even come up with words that would describe how great the pie and mash was. Friendly service and pie, mash served immediately and it was great value! Been to the other place that I will not name and this place beats it by a mile. Pro tip: ditch the knife and stick with fork and spoon ☺️

The Pie Mash & Liquor was absolutely fantastic, I was raised on this grub my great grandmother opened a pie and mash shop in Shephards bush London almost 120 years ago, my Nan and my mum worked there for many years and my mum used to cook it just like it came, they had clay ovens at the back of the shop, those soft top pies and that parsley liquor really took me down memory lane. I moved out of London many years ago and never found anywhere that done pie and mash like Cooks in Shephards bush until now. Honestly it's bloody lovely. Will be ordering again soon. Thanks for your top notch grub and service. 👌👏👍

Google
Ordered Maureens on deliveroo as I really fancied pie and mash, hands down the best pie and mash I've had, it was delivered hot, the portions were really good value for money and it was so delicious, the pie (which I'm usually not a big fan of) was so tasty, the mash was so creamy, the liqor was a generous portion to cover all of it and was delicious and I even ordered a salt beef bagel for later and that was delicious too. I'd definitely order again and will maybe pop in one day too.

Google
This is as authentic and non touristy as you get. Tucked away in a parade of shops in the East End it is quite unassuming. A counter at the back with basic chairs and tables. The pie, mash and liquor is as good as anywhere I have been. This place was very busy when we went and is deservedly popular. Simple food done very well. There were even people coming in for large take away orders. Really worth making the trip. It will be 3 pie 2 mash on my next visit!

Yelp
This should be in your list, if you're a traveling Anglophile as it represents the cream of a gorgeous subculture that is ALL London. I am an expatriate and this is always one of the first pit stops on my sacred list of delectables. Get stuck into a pie, mash, and liquor and you'll wonder how it's been off your list so long. Fish&chips is good but it's England. Pie, mash and liquor is London. Maureen's is the best!

Yelp
Awesome and cheap Pie and Mash! Definitely a must try while in London and it's not overpriced like every where else in the city center. My wife and I got the salted beef bagel and also 2 pies and mash and both were fantastic. We got the liquor on the side since we had never tried and that was tasty as well! I think the bagel was 3.50 and the 2 pies and mash were 5.10. So very good deal!

Yelp
My brother and I found Maureen's pie 'n' mash shop after stomping around Crisp street market, we both had double pie and mash, super service and GREAT pie 'n' mash with lashings of liquor, eaten in the traditional way with fork and spoon, returning soon.

Yelp
After finding myself in the area for a few weeks I stumbled across this gem. I've found myself having their hot salt beef sandwiches more times than I'd care to admit and they are amazing. After being left disappointed by brick lane's Beigel bake, I can recommend this as a solid favourite. The service is impeccable, the ladies that work their are really lovely. Portion sizes are generous and prices are very reasonable indeed. I didn't try their pie and mash as I found it too difficult to order anything than a salt beef sandwich, but judging by it's popularity, I'm sure that is delicious too. everything is made fresh on site. Really wonderful place.
