10 Best Brunch Restaurants in Greenville, South Carolina | Eater Carolinas

"Though the buildable biscuit is not new, Maverick Biscuit makes apt work of it. The former fast-food footprint is suited for the quick casual spot, and a patio out front makes for a fun sit with friends. Mimosas with fresh OJ are a steal at $7 (or bottomless for $17). The Hangover Biscuit includes hot fried chicken, milk gravy, eggs, and candied jalapeno. A doughnut riff utilizing cathead biscuit dough is a winner with lemon curd." - Stephanie Burnette

18 Essential Greenville, South Carolina, Restaurants

"Cathead biscuits are the specialty at Maverick, located in Taylors in a second-generation fast-food building. The counter service concept offers square biscuits with a big loft from the addition of cake flour. They’re topped in combinations like shrimp and grits, fried chicken with candied jalapeno, as well as the expected breakfast fare. Eggs are cooked to order, and mimosa bottle service is a fun add-on. Biscuit dough is also dropped into hot oil to produce a donut-like treat offered with lemon curd." - Stephanie Burnette

Really enjoyable meal with plenty to eat! A little pricey for brunch/breakfast — but worth it! The flavor combinations were terrific. Plus, some of the best home fries!

We were a little worried because the parking lot was almost empty at 9AM but I wanted to try it based on the fact that I wanted a good biscuit. It’s in the name, so we decided to stay. It was a great decision. The ladies were helpful and kind in answering my many questions. You order at the counter and then take a number to the table. I knew we had made the right choice when I saw the butter and jam bar. I ordered The Hangover and my husband got The Maverick. Delicious! Definitely try it if you are near by.

Drove through the drive through for the first time. Ordered a breakfast sandwich and a maple sweet potato biscuit. I noticed they were on the pricier side but our total was only $11. The girl at the window was friendly and helpful. My boyfriend enjoyed his breakfast sandwich and the portion was large. We ended up splitting it. Overall, I thought that the biscuits lacked flavor, especially the maple sweet potato which wasn’t sweet.

I always get the wild Berry French toast with the bacon and two scrambled eggs! It’s so delicious you don’t even need any syrup! It’s a good portion and can really be shared between two people! I got extra fruit this time! Definitely a weekly place to visit!

Google
Was visiting a friend in the area, found this adorable little restaurant for breakfast. Being gluten free i found this restaurant to be gluten free friendly and very knowledgeable about cross contamination. My breakfast sandwich was fantastic. I could of eaten 10. The biscuits and food were fresh and tasty. My friend that is not gluten sensitive absolutely loved her sandwich as well. This place is absolutely fantastic to stop in for breakfast and a gem.

Google
Best experience ever!. I called first to check with procedures and the person who answered was not knowledgeable about celiac/gf so she got the manager. The manger was very educated explained that they would do the meat separately on a pan as it is cooked in the oven first then fried. He said I can substitute fried chicken for grilled chicken. They would change gloves and get stuff from the back to prevent cross contamination. And that they also have gf waffles that will take a little longer. I got the gf biscuit with cheese and egg and grilled chicken. I asked for the blueberry lavender jam and they got it from the back. It was so delicious my husband who is not gf said it was a great biscuit. It was so fluffy and tasted delicious. Highly highly recommend. My husband had the hangover and absolutely loved it. The servers were very pleasant and had great recommendations

Google
To be fair, if I could give ratings in 0.5 increments, I would give this restaurant a 3.5 star rating out of 5. The food is good, but it's not remarkable, and $40 (including two entrees, one coffee, one iced tea, and tip) for two people feels like the high side of average in this economy. Having said that, the service was so-so. The cashier was friendly, but I have two more critical observations as follows: 1) Regarding the iced tea, I reported that the sweet tea container was empty almost immediately after receiving my cup. The dining room attendant promptly took the container back to the kitchen, but in the 30 minutes that we were there, sweet tea never made an appearance! 2) Despite having a dining room attendant, the trash cans were not being proactively emptied. Plus, they were the old school kind with the horizontal swinging door. If customers are expected to toss their own trash, I would think a restaurant would make it both easy and sanitary, but it was neither! Overall, I would dine here again, but it wouldn't be my first choice.

Google
I'm new in the area....this restaurants location felt like it was it was off the beaten path...walked in and the place was empty...which is astonishing because the food and service was amazing but it was later in the day......one server and one chef.....those biscuits are what dreams are made of.......food spectacular....highly recommend.....you won't regret it!!!!

Yelp
Excellent service, I ordered the Maverick biscuit sandwich with ham, knowing the large serving portions I didn't order a side. It's fresh, hot and yummy.

Yelp

Yelp
"Indulging in breakfast and coffee at this establishment was an absolute delight! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by the inviting aroma of freshly brewed coffee. The breakfast options were varied and delicious, catering to both classic cravings and adventurous palates. Whether I opted for fluffy pancakes, crispy bacon, or a hearty omelette, each dish was prepared with care and bursting with flavor. And let's not forget about the coffee - it was simply divine! Rich, smooth, and expertly crafted, it provided the perfect pick-me-up to start my day. The ambiance was cozy and welcoming, making it the ideal spot to relax and savor every sip and bite. I can't wait to return for another memorable breakfast experience!"

Yelp
High quality and delicious, these glorious biscuits are worth a try. They had good service and our food came out quickly and hot. Ambiance is that of a Pete's.

Yelp
Ordered from here for the very first time today. I have to say I was a bit disappointed. I ordered the Banana Pecan pancakes, pancakes were good but they didn't put the bananas on the pancakes..how do you forget that? It's in the name of the dish and even in the picture! Also ordered the Mavy Melt, an expensive burger, it had a half of a cheese slice on it and the smallest, oldest piece of lettuce I have ever seen and one thin tiny tomato! Not worth the price by far! It's a shame our first experience with this restaurant was not too great!
google avatar

Yelp
I came here with a friend for brunch. I decided to get The Nash. It was huge and slightly pricey. It was about $11 just for the biscuit. I looked great and tasted good but it was slightly cold which I was surprised. My friend got the Hueveros Rancheros and a cappuccino to drink. She didn't get her drink til almost the end of the meal. They did apologize for that. It's not in the best location but it's a good option for brunch or lunch. I would definitely come back here again and probably try something different.

Yelp
Good service. Good food,. Good experience. This is my 2nd through, place was packed but I was gifted a seat by an exiting group. I recommend the chicken and waffles. I have plans to return.

Yelp
I stopped by Maverick Biscuit for breakfast and boy, was I in for a treat! I ordered "The Muscle" and it was like having a taste of Arnold Schwarzenegger's bicep on a plate. The three egg whites were fluffy, the artisan greens added a pop of freshness, and the diced tomatoes brought a touch of sweetness to the dish. All served with a perfectly flaky buttermilk biscuit. It was the perfect meal to pump me up for a day of taking on the world (or at least my to-do list). If you're looking for a breakfast that packs a protein punch, head on over to Maverick Biscuit and give "The Muscle" a try. Your taste buds will be flexing with delight.

Yelp
No there hours do not fit into my schedule they need to be open more hours if they want seniors to come there

Deanna R.

Yelp
Wow! This was a great place for breakfast. If you are looking for something different and filled with flavor, this is the breakfast place for you. The staff are wonderful. You do order from a counter but food comes on real plates. I am not one who likes to order from the counter, but well worth it.
google avatar

Yelp
First time customer. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast items. The food came out quickly and correctly. Only issue I experienced was that the young lady taking our order seemed untrained. I ordered coffee, but she neglected to tell me it was self-serve. When our meal came, I asked about the coffee and was told by the food runner that coffee was self-serve.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! Orange Walk is everything!!!!! So many options. It is very much worth waiting for.

Yelp
This restaurant was kicking it on Sunday. We got a take away order of biscuits and gravy. I begged my hostess to take me back the next day to try their chicken and biscuits. Oh Em Gee!!!! Who are you people? Incredible food. Great prices! And Kevin, front end manager represents your company well. Congrats on your second opening! Well deserved. Now please bring a restaurant to downtown Cincinnati!

Yelp
The morning after my birthday saw me in....not my finest of forms. My wife, who made my birthday this year an awesome one, wanted to try Maverick Biscuit, which is not far from our house. I rightly assumed this was what my hungover body needed, and was not disappointed. The restaurant itself is inside what looks like was a fast food joint at some point in the past. There's a spacious patio out front, with a lot of shade, as well as a dining room. The staff was very friendly and the service is prompt. They also offer a full bar, although yesterday morning I wanted no part of that haha. Kat ordered a biscuit with spicy gravy, fried chicken breast & eggs and bacon, topped with candied jalapeños. Mine was the same, but with shaved rib meat, bell peppers and hollandaise. The portions were large and price point for most of the biscuits runs between $11-15. Unlike a lot of these specialty biscuit restaurants, we were in and out relatively quickly. I can honestly say I really liked this place and will be coming back again many times. The only thing I can say that isn't great about it is that the inside dining room could be spruced up a bit more to give it a better atmosphere. If you live in Taylors and are looking for a new breakfast spot, come check these guys out!

Yelp
This was a great little find in Taylor's, South Carolina. My husband and I stopped for brunch this morning and were not disappointed. I got the maverick biscuit with bacon which was very tasty. My husband got the lumberjack which had a little bit of everything. Their grits are out of this world! We also got the cinnamon roll biscuit which was delicious. I would highly recommend if you're in this area.
google avatar

Lydia H.

Yelp
I will be back! I can see 5-star potential, and lowered my rating to 4-stars because the bacon was a little overdone and the wait was long. (I do like crispy bacon, but this was hard) Having said that, the staff was amazing!! Very apologetic for being slammed and running behind, and the biscuit meal still tasted wonderful. I was pretty surprised with the pimento cheese and fried green tomato flavor profile complimenting so well. Can't wait to try other items on the menu!
google avatar

Katie M.

Yelp
Oh my goodness this place is pretty great! So glad that something delicious has landed in that pre-existing building. The cat-head size biscuits are A+ grandmother quality and the the creative options for enjoying them will leave you wanting to come back soon. Our favorites were the cinnamon roll type biscuit, the donut holes (like beignets), the loaded grits bowl, and even the burger was great. The coffee is on point as well. The kids approved of the food and are begging to go back. This place easily beats out the other downtown biscuit places, which shall not be named, The generous staff went out of their way to take care of us.

C B.

Yelp
Portions are big and they serve Neese's sausage That's about all that's positive Eggs not cooked as ordered; OJ fresh but had a bad taste and no reg grits Gravy wasn't white or brown- kinda pink colored and while the hubs ate it he don't love it

Brady W.

Yelp
Ten out of ten! Will recommend to anyone they have great fresh mimosa's. Bottomless mimosas are only 15. The biscuits are huge! The biscuit combinations are very creative and filling. I'm in love with Maverick Biscuit... This was a good review until they cut us off after three mimosas claiming that we have have too many. There is a picture of the mimosas below. Biscuits are good but once you use up your fifteen worth they cut you off.

Yelp
My husband and I tried breakfast here this morning as we were looking to expand out from eggs up grill and duck donuts! This was amazing!!!! We are so glad we tried it and can not wait to come back. We felt this at first bite. I got the orange walk chicken biscuit and he got the bulls bay, plus a side of jalapeño cheese grits and I got an iced chai tea latte. Everything was incredible. We both tasted each other's as well and agreed they were delicious! I can not wait to try the other biscuits and the French toast entree! I am SHOCKED it only has 4 stars and everyone that gave a four star rating should feel ashamed of themselves because this food is fantastic. Also the biscuits looked exactly like the photos on their online menu, they do not skimp at out at all. I forgot to take a picture before we gobbled it up.
google avatar

Marissa C.

Yelp
Super unorganized staff, there's just yelling and like guys walking around trying to find tables and stuff. Food was delish, but they're very frugal with the chicken. I added chicken for $3.50 and like had a few little pieces sprinkled on my biscuit. Also it's kinda just dirty inside, the jam bar was super suspicious and just completely ravaged.

Hope H.

Yelp
We were so excited to try this out. What a total disappointment. We told the server that our food was cold, the egg was runny and raw, but they didn't seem to care. Save the trip and go somewhere else.
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped in with my daughter and tried a few items on the menu. Loved it all. I've been in several more times. Fast and friendly service, always fresh.

Travis B.

Yelp
Not the place for the price you pay for breakfast why not go a place like Stax food is ok just over priced, service is ok. Not very clean when my wife and I went they had roaches on the floor kind of turned my stomach for what we were paying for food at the place,

Kate B.

Yelp
Great food, great service, and super dog-friendly! Good coffee too. Would definitely eat here again passing through town

Yelp
Went here for lunch and they did not disappoint. Just FYI they close at 2pm every weekday and 3pm on weekends. They have both indoor and outdoor seating and it's all spacious. You order at the counter and they bring it to your table. Upon entering we were greeted by a nice lady who was very helpful and informative since it was our first time. She gave us good suggestions and detailed descriptions that made it very easy for me to pick what to order. From the initial conversation alone I was happy with our experience thus far. I think her name was Alyssa or something similar and she was super nice. I ordered the Maverick Shrimp and grits and my gf ordered the Nash. Both were awesome and great choices. I had 4 good sized shrimps and lots of andouille sausages and the sauce was creamy and rich. Upon finishing my meal I found another hidden shrimp which delighted me bc 5 semi large shrimp was better than what I was expecting coming into the restaurant. Another delight that I enjoyed was it wasn't the traditional grits style. They made a grit cake, which sat together nicely between the buttermilk biscuit and shrimps. The Nash probably was our favorite. It had a good spice level and the biscuit had jalapeños in it which was awesome. They had a jam bar with many unique jams so those are worth a try as well. It comes with extra jalapeños on the side and pickles too. We were both full at the end. All in all I would def recommend this place if u like biscuits. It's well made, homemade and different than some of the other biscuit joints here in Greenville. We had a great experience with our hostess/server and the food hit our spots. We will be coming back to try the other menu items and cocktails.

Yelp
Tried this place out on the recommendation of a friend. I was assured by the sweet young lady at the register that they have the best biscuits in the world. Yup, I'd have to agree with that! I ordered the Orange Walk Chicken Biscuit. What arrived at my table was a cat head biscuit filled with a fried chicken patty, a fried goat cheese disc with a medium egg on top. There is a jelly & flavored butter bar with all kinds of interesting and delicious combos. They are open every day until 2-3pm. Give them a try ASAP!
google avatar

Pate A.

Yelp
Kinda disappointed. We went through the drive through and our biscuit wasn't that hot. Actually just warm. Cheese not even melted. The ham was dry and hard. I had to cut it with a knife. I couldn't hold the biscuit but ate it with a knife and fork. $8 was a lot to pay for a biscuit that wasn't really good. Nice service though. Sad to say we won't be back. There are too many other better choices.
google avatar

Jim L.

Yelp
Been there twice now. Very good biscuits, I had sausage gravy the first time then a bacon, egg and cheese both very tasty. Even though it was crowded the service was fast, and hot.

Sophie K.

Yelp
Menu has tons to chose from with nice large portions. You order at the counter and the workers have always been nice, though, often it's hard to get a table due to tables not being bussed/cleaned off. Overall ambiance is a nice chill place to get Sunday brunch.

Dennis M.

Yelp
First time to try Maverick and was a bit disappointed as my Biscuit with egg, cheese and chicken was cold. My wife biscuits and gravy were not hot as well. Probably will pass on this place. Biscuits are big but underwhelming taste for $20 bucks
google avatar

Shana M.

Yelp
Love Maverick Biscuit and I hope it stays in Taylor's a very long time! I have never had a bad meal here! Their iced coffee is some of the best in town, I dream about it! My favorites on the menu are Floyd's Breakfast for a traditional breakfast plate. It's always so much food I take half of it home. I also like the orange chicken the goat cheese is so creamy and balanced the saltiness of the biscuit and chicken. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, they are happy to recommend anything you might be wondering about on the menu too.
google avatar

Megan G.

Yelp
Absolutely wonderful!!! Was in town for a wedding, wanted a good breakfast spot for a family group & were we ever fortunate to find this gem. The food was outstanding, the coffee was delicious & the service was efficient & friendly. We could not praise this family restaurant enough! Top recommendations: The Frenchie & the Jazzy Omelette
google avatar

Alan M.

Yelp
Great food and service, they always have great coffee too food is made fresh to order, they have more than just biscuits

Kevin M.

Yelp
Unequivocally the best biscuits and sausage gravy I've ever had. I can also vouch for the shrimp and grits. Drive thru is convenient, great restaurant

Bailey D.

Yelp
I heard that maverick Bisquit is opening a second location in Mauldin, and I hadn't even tried the first! My biscuits were light like my heart on a Sunday morning, but the sauce was heavy and full of flavor! I could've used more tbh, but As an opportunist I decided to use the plethora of herbal jams and sweet compound butters! Boom. However, it could've came out a little warmer, but as you can see I came in my pajamas, and I'm not perfect either. Hungover and hungry, I just asked if Chef Mike could heat it up, and they happily obliged. The staff was awesome!
google avatar

Lee H.

Yelp
Everything I have gotten from here is delicious. The biscuits are not hard as rocks like some places. These biscuits are soft and buttery, so they will start to fall apart if you don't squeeze them first. Love this place!
google avatar

Jared D.

Yelp
Updating my review after another visit. Went back for a second visit after the first one went so well and the experience was awful. We went with friends and the first order came out, but they forgot items. Never fully got all the items corrected to the table for about 10 minutes. The second order never came out. They kept giving excuses that the to-go orders had them backed up. Multiple tables got their food inside and we had ordered at the exact same time. They never attempted to make the order and after an hour of waiting we finally left. They argued over the price that was paid until we showed them where the expense was on bank records online. Poor management and poor service. There are places more deserving of your money than this.

Angela H.

Yelp
Wonderful as always. The biscuits are AMAZING. The compound butters and blended jellies were very different. The jellies were a little runny but very flavorful. The restaurant is always clean and the servers are very helpful.
google avatar

Kevin C.

Yelp
We had concerns that this would be another dry biscuit sandwich, but we were wrong. Thick cuts of bacon, tender fried chicken. The biscuit cinnamon roll was something different that was excellent! They also nailed the biscuits and gravy! Good food!
google avatar

Adam D.

Yelp
We where so excited to try Maverick Biscuits, mostly because of the chocolate gravy biscuit (my grandmother made for us when we where young). It was dreadful. We also ordered the hangover and maverick biscuits and they were sub par.

Marlon F.

Yelp
Very delicious, Alejandro and Eduardo super nice employee , super friendly staff food was out within a few minutes.
google avatar

Felicia G.

Yelp
First time trying this. The grits were absolutely delicious.. authentic tasting. Not anything like instant grits. I was hesitant because of the jalapeño but I don't see any actual jalapeños in it and it's not spicy. It has a really nice flavor. The bacon was a bit hard. Eggs ok, biscuit huge and warm bursting with flavor. I would definitely come back and try more!

Bonnie W.

Yelp
Most likely the very worst breakfast we ever had. If u like hard boiled eggs Benedict this place is for you! The mimosas tasted like ginger beer and grits were super salty. No thanks.... a much better bet would have been Cracker Barrel, iHop or even Waffle House!!!! If we could we'd give it zero stars.
google avatar

Barry B.

Yelp
I'm just passing through Greenville but if I weren't this place would be my go to for breakfast. Pricing is good, great music, decent sized portions, and at least right now they have Fox News on the television in the corner. I'm a fleeing refugee from California and most places there have the concocted news network (CNN) on, so this is refreshing.
google avatar

Robert P.

Yelp
They oil was burned and has not been cleaned properly. My biscuit was dry as dust and overall experience was not pleasant
google avatar

Skyler R.

Yelp
Honestly walked in and experienced hospitality over the moon ! I had heard great things from a friend of mine and they weren't LYING ! Thanks Rico for taking time to make my coffee just right ! I Love the use of the space with its pristine patio and chalkboard menu ! The presentation is simple which showcases the larger than life biscuits they serve . They also offer a wide variety of food options too from gluten free and vegan !
google avatar

Traci T.

Yelp
Had the Lumberjack breakfast. Grits were spot on in terms of smoothie as and flavor. The biscuit was as big as my head. Well flavored and crumbly like I like. The bacon was smoked and the pieces were thick. Outside and indoor seating available. The food came out super fast and the wait staff was friendly and helpful.

Yelp
Checked out this new biscuit place in Taylors for brunch today. Their biscuits are made from scratch with buttermilk cathead style. According to their menu they source their ingredients locally. Speaking of menu, they have several different biscuit sandwiches to choose from. But if you're looking for other options they do have a granola bowl, salad, and grits. I came on a Sunday with my parents for brunch. You walk up to the counter to place your order which they will bring to your table. They have inside and outside seating. I ordered the Nashville hot chicken biscuit - The Nash and my parents shared the Bulls Bay - bbq short ribs. My biscuit was actually made with jalapenos in it. The chicken is perfectly cooked and seasoned. I wish the biscuits were a little more fluffy. I'm not sure if it's the sauce that made it seem a little doughy. I tasted my parent's biscuit and the pulled short ribs was delicious. They also offer different jams and butter than you can enjoy with your biscuit. Our favorite was the strawberry basil jam. They serve alcohol after 10am. I ordered a bloody Mary and it was very peppery just the way I like it. Service was great - John talked to us about the menu while we were trying to decide on what to order. They checked on us to make sure we have everything we needed. They have ample parking spaces on their property so parking shouldn't be a problem. They open at 7 until 2pm during the week and until 3pm on the weekends. Overall a good experience on our first visit. Will definitely come back and try something different from their menu.

Yelp
Food is incredible, it's why I keep going back through the crappy drive-thru service. At least every other time I go through the drive-thru, they leave part of my order off. Just now, I sat in the drive-thru for almost 30 minutes, even pulled up, and they still messed it up. Luckily I knew to check my order this time before leaving. Going inside is great, never had an issue there. They'd get a 5-star rating from me if not for the drive through.
