Went to Maverick Distillery for my birthday. We did a distillery tour, followed by a tasting, and then went up to the bar on the third floor for a cocktail. EVERY SINGLE ASPECT of this experience was fantastic. The hospitality of the staff, the knowledge/expertise of our guide, and the history/roots of this establishment, were incomparable. And the whiskey? Fabulous. Thank you for such a fun time!

Maverick Whiskey is a true San Antonio treasure, a beautifully restored historic space where Texas heritage meets handcrafted excellence. From the moment you walk in, the warm, rustic ambiance and welcoming staff set the tone for an elevated yet approachable experience. Their small-batch spirits, especially the smooth straight bourbon and bold rye, showcase real craftsmanship, and the upstairs bar and kitchen serve inventive cocktails and elevated comfort food that make you want to linger. It’s more than just a distillery it’s a refined yet down-to-earth destination where local pride is poured into every glass.

We stopped in here on a Friday night before going on a tour. We had a great time. The drink were delicious. I highly recommend this place if you are in the area. You won't be disappointed. The staff was amazing and welcoming.

Google
Went to a whiskey & chocolate pairing event. Atmosphere was very cool and historical. Staff was friendly and attentive. The whiskey was very good. (Favorite was the straight Bourbon) the chocolates from San Antonio Fudge Company paired perfectly but were also delicious on their own. We will be back again.

Probably my favorite stop during my weekend in San Antonio. The flights are reasonable at $15. You get to taste the ones of your choosing. Find one you really like, take home a bottle. I did. The service was great, and servers were very knowledgeable. A nice bonus was the mixed nuts which helped to cleanse the palette between whiskeys. I’ll definitely return.

Google
Nice friendly staff. Wide selection of spirits. Lots of smooths tasting and amazing smelling whiskey...and I'm not a whiskey drinker. The agaves tasted just as smooth as the whiskey. Bartender's recommendations on mixed drinks were on point. We would go here again next time we're in town.

Google
This was the best surprise find of our trip to San Antonio. My wife and I were walking by and decided to go in on a whim. It was such a great decision. Carlos was incredibly welcoming and full of information about the spirits, the history of the building, and the city. The old fashioned was wonderful and every spirit was solid. The Rye stands out as my favorite. This place is definitely worth a stop for anyone visiting San Antonio.

Google
Carlos is a great bartender, storyteller, host, and everything in between. The Alamo City Margarita is great; it's light and refreshing. Perfect to have on a hot summer day.

Yelp
Great Folks and great location. Lots of history and our host/distillery tour person, Carlos was excellent. Took us through the history of the name, the building, the distillery process. He answered any questions on the product, was refreshing blunt when describing certain aspects of the process and tasting experiences. The history of the name , family , building made it very enjoyable and sampling was done upstairs in a very comfortable and modern bar/speakeasy. Jason our mixologist made us a few amazing old fashions using the Double oak 114 proof which were amazing. Enjoyed a nice pour on a number of rock only Burbon's. The wheat was definitely my favorite. Just the two of us took the tour but Carlos was attentive and answered all questions. Highly recommend next time you're in the area to stop by and say hello. Even better get some knowledge and enjoy an interesting and fun hour spent learning some of the history of the Maverick namesake, the historic building the distillery is housed in as well as the great product they create from scratch on site.

Yelp
Let's begin with the structure, this distillery is located in an old bank building making it a unique and beautiful backdrop to enjoy a drink. They have an extensive selection of house spirits. I had their old fashioned and was given my choice of what type of wood to smoke it with (quite a treat). My wife enjoyed the bees knees gin drink, which was delightful. Not too sweet and not boozy. If you're in the area, drop in for at least a drink. If it's not busy you may even get a history lesson from the bartender (who was great!). I'd also recommend picking up a bottle of their whiskey or gin as a gift. Don't pass this place up! Ps. They also have their own beers, but was not a big fan, primarily because it wasn't served cold.

Yelp
Finally got a chance to drop in to try Maverick Whiskey. We went to the upstairs bar, which is small but cozy, and I ordered Homestead Old Fashioned with their Rye whiskey. The drink was well made and their Rye had a nice kick and wasn't overly priced at $13 for a house made whiskey. We had tickets to a show and couldn't stay longer but look forward to coming back and trying the food and other spirits.

Yelp
Our bartender, Jason Villegas, was magnificent. Knowledgeable.. Attentive. Respectful. Very good spirits as well as cocktails. Recommend this place very strongly. It gives tours as well as cocktail service in a very well curated western style location in downtown San Antonio. Nearby parking is available. Alejandro Velez

Yelp
First time visit. Loved the warm welcome and allowing us to choose a quick first floor talk through or head straight to the 2nd floor Bar. Very knowledgeable and.l enjoyed the Maverick Whiskey history and flight taste. Relaxed atmosphere and then heading upstairs. Michael was professional and cool attitude vibe! Custom made a couple of Old Fashions. Great place to head in and relax for a few. Will love to revisit.

Yelp
Amazing whiskey. Amazing service. Amazing tour!!! Cory was AMAZING! Super informative and very welcoming. Definitely will be back. Love our locals!!

Yelp
SAN ANTONIO, TX: you know we are always thirsty and we found another distillery to rehydrate. Maverick Distilling is located in a historic building and former bank and they serve up whiskey, bourbon, gin, and tequila! They even make their own beer! They have it all! We spent time in the main level distiller's lounge that offered an older ambiance and seating. Leashed dogs are allowed inside. Bring your own food and pair with a cocktail!
google avatar

Jasmine W.

Yelp
I took my husband here for a private tour of the distillery for his birthday and it was well worth it! Our tour guide was fun and informative. We even got to see the barrels I the basement. At the end of our tour we got to try several whiskeys and went home with a cute engraved glass. The experience was so cool and entertaining that I would make this a regular place to drink and hang out.

Dirk K.

Yelp
Can not recommend this place highly enough. Engaging and informative. Walked in just to check it out ended up talking with the manager for an hour. The building is an old bank but very cool and modern inside very chill.
google avatar

Lizz M.

Yelp
Cool place. The lady downstairs said cocktails were upstairs, so up the elevator we went. It was happy hour but it was quiet. Asked the bartender a question about the menu and he assumed a different t drink, so I clarified. Gave me a vague answer so I based me decision on trying something new and it was not great but I drank it all because it was expensive, they don't actually partake in happy hour.

Matt B.

Yelp
Stopped by and had an amazing experience! Walked in right when they opened and was treated to friendly staff who seemed genuinely excited to have me there. The spirit tasting was great and received an amazing tour of the facility. Picked up a couple bottles to take home and share with friends. Would highly recommend a visit to Mavericks when you are visiting. Also had a rye old fashioned and it tasted great.
google avatar

Jazmin V.

Yelp
The facility is clean! The employees are badass! The drinks are delish! Jess was amazing! Very welcoming and social! They are knowledgeable in their drink game! We will definitely return!! Thank y'all for the fun time!

Yelp
You can go on a tour or stop by for drinks. I didn't do the tour but still thoroughly enjoyed my time here. Went upstairs to their bar which was well ventilated with AC. There are some cute photo ops. Everybody working here was kind.

Yelp
I am(was) a regular at this establishment, but I will no longer have this as my go to location. The new manager Ralph kicked us out 3 minutes early (8:57pm) saying "we're closed" just after I asked the bartender if we needed to head out and she said we were fine. The bartender named Jessica was excellent. She was extremely knowledgeable of the spirits and was very joyful. The host Serena was excellent as well. Walking in I felt very welcomed and any questions I had they were able to answer. As previously stated, the manager kicking us out early was unacceptable and very rude.
google avatar

Carrie M.

Yelp
Great place. The whiskey tour was wonderful for my whiskey loving husband. We got to see how it was made, where it was stored, and taste a few different flavors.
google avatar

Jonathon L.

Yelp
Did the whiskey tour for a friend's birthday. Serena was a great tour guide and provided us with good information and knowledge about their spirits

Yelp
Overall good. Food was flavorful and the charcuterie board was quite good. Liked that it was not TOO fancy.... Good cheeses and meats, and fruit and pickled items were good! I liked my chicken and my wife enjoyed the salmon. Good veggies accompanied... The flight was also good. The reserve whiskey was good as was the triticale.... Never had that before. Waitress described it as a "happy accident". Tequila and vodka were just OK... All in all this is a very enjoyable experience and I can see myself coming back again. I will say the one thing that they could do a better job at is coming up with some sort of parking solution.... That was pretty awful... Other than that all good. The waitress was good but not great- I will also say that the music in here was very "vampire nightclub" and it was a shame that I was not drinking more and dancing.... Lol! Seems like it will be better when more people are here (we were here a little early).

Yelp
What a lovely place to stop in and get a drink. I found this place on a google search. Whenever I'm going to a new city I look up wineries or tasting rooms, distilleries, and breweries because priorities. This place is a quick jaunt from The Alamo so it was my first stop after touring the historic site. The bartenders are really friendly and the spirits themselves are lively and interesting. I was able to partake in happy hour which includes $10 flights and $8 crafted cocktails. If you're a whiskey lover like me you won't be disappointed. The drink menu is really really imaginative; everything is well balanced and complimentary to the spirit. I ended up ordering the seasonal flight and something that was essentially a reposado old fashioned. I would come here often if I lived in the city and I'll definitely be stopping in on my next visit to San Antonio.
google avatar

Yelp
You come in and wait to get upstairs. Downstairs you can still do tastings though. You take the elevator to the 2nd floor and have at it. We sat at the bar and ended up all getting the same thing. Everybody there was nice and friendly because they explained exactly what was on the menu so that we knew what we were getting before we ordered. They were very explicit on what the things were and how they were made and I really appreciate the explanations. It was really good customer service because of that. It happened to me right next door to our hotel so that worked out pretty well. It was definitely in the middle of downtown so it was a really good area and a really good place for it to be.
google avatar

Katie N.

Yelp
Great place- had no idea there was even a distillery smack dab in the middle of downtown until my husband pointed it out. Great service, fabulous cocktails (and they have beer)! It's a beautifully designed building and the history is very cool! They even have copies of money from when Texas was. Republic- super cool as I've never seen that! Definitely a must see/drink.

Yelp
While furloughed during the summer of 2020 I would walk around the downtown area of San Antonio. I had passed Maverick Whiskey multiple times when they were only selling hand sanitizer. The place looked cool. I was downtown for The Monkees show. I wanted to stop by for a drink. The bartenders were very friendly and talented. They had a few unique drink options. The got one of both old fashioned cocktails they had on their drink menu. They were both great. The guys to the right of me were raving about the food especially the fries. I had to order the fries and they were $11. They had a nice cheese sauce, bacon and a runny egg on top. The fries were super tasty. I will recommend them to everyone. I am looking forward to trying more menu items in the future. I will definitely be back.
google avatar

Yelp
We had great cocktails at Maverick! Cocktails are only available on the weekend but worth the wait. We tried the spice 75, daiquiri, sazerac, and Oaxcan old fashion and enjoyed all of them. The bartender was friendly and knowledgeable.
google avatar

Renee J.

Yelp
Our first visit to Maverick Whiskey was great. The bartender was very knowledgeable about their whiskey and beer and skilled in making craft drinks. Their whiskey is very good and worth a try for anyone who likes whiskey. The historic decor pays tribute to the buildings origin as a bank creating a cool bar environment. I will Definitely visit again and try the food side of their menu.

Lee P.

Yelp
Something for everyone! The distillery has a lot of products to offer, several of award winning quality. Even non-drinkers can enjoy the history of the Maverick legacy that is now passed down into their spirits. Our guide Jess and the other servers (Mark and Victor) exceeded our expectations. Definitely worth checking them out! Lee P

Yelp
We celebrated a birthday here with dinner and drinks. We reserved a table and were seated immediately when we arrived. The dining area is upstairs. It's small, but the tables are spaced nicely. It wasn't too busy when we went. We had tastings for their spirits and beer. Both excellent. $10 spirit flights are the way to go. We did try cocktails. Their old fashioned was on point. I love their little extras like the ice cube with their symbol. Food was good too. We shared a pretzel, fried goat cheese, deviled eggs and cauliflower. For my main meal I had the smoked salmon nachos. They were delicious. The majority of the table got the bone in rib eye and were all happy with it. Staff was friendly. They don't have parking, but you can find nearby parking garages.

Yelp
Don't freak out. It's only 4 stars because I didn't have the time or chance to really explore this distillery. But the staff was super bubbly when we walked in and gave us their attention immediately. They gave us a quick background on the distillery and escorted us upstairs to the bar/tasting room. We sat at the bar and enjoyed a smoked bourbon old fashioned and a bourbon straight. We also had some fries, wings, and the charcuterie plate. I'd probably skip on the charcuterie plate next time unless you really need some quick bar snack bites. The wings were amazing though.
google avatar

Gregg P.

Yelp
Great fun bar with fresh spirits! Can't say enough about how smart and friendly the staff is here! The spirits are super fresh and have so many cool mixes in them. A lover of good gin I throughly recommend theirs with just ice. It's refreshing!
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome atmosphere, cool story. Local whiskey distillery and restaurant near the Riverwalk. All whiskey is distilled in the old bank building with restaurant upstairs. The food was quite good - I got the mesquite pork Ribs. They were not traditional ribs, but they were smoked well and were tender. I thought the fries were excellent. The whiskey flight was a cheap and fun experience. Only $10 for a 4 drink flight. Probably equaled about 2 drinks. I'll go back to try it again and maybe get an actual tour. The women at the front door were fun and had a great attitude. Service was a little slow, but I had good company so it wasn't as big a deal.
google avatar

Chad M.

Yelp
Service wasn't that great. Food was ok. Old fashioned was really good. You might be surprised at the 4 star rating. Again. The old fashioned was really good
google avatar

Laura F.

Yelp
I tried such perfectly cooked steak here and a delicious Old-fashioned. I will definitely return for their whiskey flight, which is an amazing deal. The staff is amazing! I forgot my debit card and they had already turned it in downstairs with the hostess, before I even made it back. I will most definitely be back.

Christopher S.

Yelp
I actually stop by here a lot for their flights and to purchase a bottle. I bring my friends here for lunch drinks too. Great spot
google avatar

Yelp
OMG. This needs to be the go to place if you are in San Antonio. Amazing food, outstanding cocktails, and out of ordinary service. I had a great gin infused cocktail. Try the Special Accommodations. They also have a great selection of whiskey, as well as Craft beers. Enjoy a cocktail then indulge into some outstanding food. We tried a number of items on the menu and were amazed at the flavors. The Chief puts his heart into every entree. Our favorites: All of them, but in order would be 1. Texas Heritage Bone Marrow 2.Quail and Biscuits 3.Pork Cheek Porchetta 4. Wild Boar Ragu and Dumplings If you around the Alamo, this is definitely a resturant to stop by So one needs to call Guy Fiere about this place.
google avatar

Juan E.

Yelp
I had the pleasure of visiting San Antonio and was in search of some good whiskey and that's when I came across Maverick whiskey Upon entering you are greeted by a hostess, the waiting area is full of history and a gift shop. My wait time wasn't very long and we were lead to the bar. I had their bourbon whiskey and a cola made in Texas. I didn't try their food but their craft beer and whiskey was amazing! Our waitress told us some good ghost stories of the place and she was great at telling us the history of the place. I ended up buying some whiskey bottles to go! I highly recommend Maverick if you're in the area.

Yelp
Made reservations for a Saturday night dinner during the Christmas rush. We had never been and had never heard anything about it - we decided based on their menu. We are very glad we chose to eat here - we split the Tomahawk and was very pleased with the cut and preparation of the meat. It could have used a bit more seasoning for my taste, but overall it was excellent. The Old Fashions were some of the best tasting I ever had. Top notch dinner!!
google avatar

Krissi L.

Yelp
The ribeye and potatoes were both amazing. The "Draw me like your French girls" drink was very good, and the bar manager and bartenders were super friendly and nice! People sitting at the bar struck up conversation with each other, it was such a nice vibe. Definitely would recommend and will come back if I'm ever back this way for work. (Wasn't very crowded when I went in on a Thursday evening)
google avatar

Sonia H.

Yelp
Reservations for a group of 8 placed us in our own private room; very cool. The room overlooked the area where the whiskey is created. A tour is available if you would like however, I'm not certain what it costs. The menu changes regularly and is limited. We had a nice meal and service was great. The asparagus surrounded by a garlic aeoli are awesome. The aeoli is beautifully buttery. 4 of us split the 40oz tomahawk steak.
google avatar

Fernando V.

Yelp
Cool little spot to grab a drink or learn some things about whiskey. The kitchen didn't open till 530 so we were stuck with some appetizers, menu it's not real expansive so basic meat which is fine. Dining space is a little tight and can get loud depending on the crowd but overall a cool spot
google avatar

Chris M.

Yelp
We were in San Antonio for 3 days and came here twice. There are a ton of other options, but I had to come back. The first time we stopped for a cocktail and flight. The Yule cocktail was unbelievable. Just watching them make it was entertainment, very talented. The second time we ate. I had the yummy burger and my husband had a pasta dish with chicken. Phenomenal! We had another flight and I had the campfire cocktail. Again, they show their talent and prepare right in front of you. This is a must stop if you're in San Antonio.

Yelp
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience here. We did the tour which lasted about an hour and a half and had dinner at the restaurant as well. The service was exceptional and everyone were very friendly and welcoming. Our tour guide, Nicole, was fun, engaging and knowledgeable. The uniqueness of Maverick lies within its rich history and dyanmic cultural narratives surrounding the family and the area, so the tour is a must if you want to fully appreciate the experience! At the end of the tour, we tasted a few of their spirits and their straight bourbon whiskey. This whiskey has a lighter note to it and very smooth. My friend prefered the Alamo whiskey which has a bolder taste. We also got a chance to hear some spooky ghost stories from Dan, the manager. "Spirits & spirits" ;) The restaurant is upstairs with an elegant atmosphere and a view of the distillery on the side. The deviled eggs were okay but did not leave a strong impression. But their baby back ribs totally made up for it. The tender, juicy BBQ ribs combined with cripsy fries offered an amazingly satisfying taste. Their shrimp scampi is just as delicious, flavorful and cooked just right. The whiskey ice cream sweetly concluded our delightful evening there. We'll definitely recommend Maverick to everyone!
google avatar

Dan R.

Yelp
Nice facility and decent whiskey but the employees at the bar seemed straight up bothered that we were there. Straight up grimaces on their face: no greeting, no smile....nothing. Felt very unwelcome and it was not just us that they were acting this way towards. Was considering staying for dinner, but took our money elsewhere. Good branding, but employees need better hospitality.
google avatar

Cameron V.

Yelp
My first night in San Antonio ended with dinner at Maverick Whiskey. Texas beef and Texas Whiskey. It was delicious. The vibe of the whole restaurant was awesome and the staff was great.
google avatar

Christine H.

Yelp
Such a good intimate spot in San Antonio! Upscale, classy, & the food was delicious. 10/10!
google avatar

Brad B.

Yelp
Went here for drinks and the tour and had an awesome time. Their craft cocktails are fantastic. We tried all their in house hooch on the tour and it was all great the whiskey is very flavorful with just a little burn. The white rum was smooth as hell. This isn't an especially cheap place for drinks and they are made to order so not super fast but it was a special occasion and I wasn't looking for frosty marg at chili's. The tour was super fun. They tell you from the get go it is more about the history of Sam Maverick than the process of making whiskey and I love Texas history so it was a lot of fun. Pay attention because the more you remember the bigger the tasting samples!
google avatar

Lisa G.

Yelp
Drinks, food, and service were fantastic. Take the distillery tour first while you sip a cocktail then enjoy a fabulous meal. We didn't make it to dessert...too full.
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
After being told by most of the river walk restaurants the wait times over an hour on a Saturday afternoon I searched yelp for a place close that didn't have a long wait . Maverick had immediate seating and thanks to yelp community our meal was outstanding. Extremely knowledgeable server , wonderful friendly seating hostess and one of the best steaks of my life. Tender, heck could have cut that steak with butter knife. Rich , flavorful, proper temp just perfect served with cold beer , couldn't had been happier.

Yelp
Decided to have a birthday dinner here with my favorite person, and the food was delicious!!! Atmosphere was nice and staff was very friendly. Food: Deviled eggs - DELICIOUS Crawfish Cakes - AMAZING and so full of flavor Porkchops - NICE AND TENDER!! Juicy and delicious CREME BRÛLÉE- sooo gooodddd!!! I recommend this place for lunch or dinner. I also had a whiskey flight and it was pretty good! I will definitely be back here!
google avatar

Gregory S.

Yelp
Hmm, well I ordered a drink and the bartender didn't prepare it as I asked. Then he wouldn't fix it. That's just not right.
google avatar

Diana M.

Yelp
We had great drinks here - some in the group got classics like an old fashioned, others tried some of the more creative cocktails; the commonality was that all were delicious. We also tried the goat cheese croquettes (heaven) and the charcuterie board. The charcuterie board has some different meat choices than you would normally see, but we all really enjoyed everything. Would definitely recommend.
google avatar

Michelle T.

Yelp
Great service, food and drinks! Cute place with history. The salmon nachos are full of flavor. Fried goat cheese is a must!
