Yelp
Obsessed. Even if you are NOT into cereal flavors, they have what you need! Do you like ice cream? You will LOVE this ice cream. Have some fun and enjoy an unexpected flavor with friendly conversation! Samples abound, additional toppings do not. Not much in the way of seating, but ice cream like this is enjoyed too quickly to worry about it.

Brianna R.

Yelp
One of the best Ice cream shops in New York!!! Their creative flavors are so yummy. I recommend trying fruity pebbles, Cookie Monster, and Cinnamon Toast Crunch.

Yelp
my go to ice cream spot. is it a half hour away from my house? yes. will that stop me? no. service is always top notch; two brothers bruce and mark. place has been serving SPECTACULAR kooky fun flavors of ice cream since 1997 flavors can be anything from mint chip to caramel m&m cold brew glazed donut! i mean the list is never ending and always changing. they make their own ice cream and concoct all these crazy flavor combinations on their own, and it's so fun to watch it come to life. upon entering you are overwhelmed with nostalgia and just an overall sense of "the good life". the walls are covered in old school films, posters, cereal boxes, comics, frisbees and more. the music is amazing, the vibes are immaculate, and the ice cream is top notch. OH, and pro tip, if you taste a flavor you like...ORDER A PINT, because once it's sold out there's no going back (unless you're lucky and they recreate it!) don't be like me :( my favorite flavor ice cream i've ever had (EVER) was called cabernet date fig chip....TO DIE FOR! definitely worth a stop in if you're in the area, or not!

Yelp
Phenomenal home made ice cream - the SpongeBob was an amazing cake batter flavored ice cream with sprinkles, and the black and white cookie was also spot on. The Dulce de leche was also completely on point. Definitely a must - stop in Queens that lives up to all the hype.

Cristina P.

Yelp
Best ice cream place ever I remember when it was on channel 1. many different flavors and they make the ice cream on the premises.

Jan P.

Yelp
Super nice service. Sample all you want. Amazing flavors. Regular stuff plus outstanding mixtures. We had coffee chunky bar and ferrero rocher caramel. Amazing both. And fresh brewed coffee and dulce de leche. Coffee actually has true flavor and dulce has caramel running through. We've lived in queens our whole lives and this was the first time we've been here. Recommended by our friend and so glad we checked it out. New ice cream spot for us for sure!!!

Yelp
A scoop of pure joy, this place has a lot of eclectic and inventive flavors. From classic favorites to quirky combinations, the menu at Max and Mina's is a testament to their commitment to creativity. The ice creams are creamy, rich, and packs a flavor punch that sets it apart from the ordinary. The atmosphere is laid-back and inviting, creating a perfect setting for indulging in their unique creations. The staff adds to the charm with their friendly service and enthusiasm for guiding you through the diverse flavor options.

Yelp
This place has THE best and biggest variety of flavors. I could see why it's been around for as long it has. The owner is such a nice guy. He makes you feel so welcome in his shop. The decor in the ice cream shop can't be beat either. You have something to discover in the decor while you're enjoying your interesting and delicious variety of ice cream flavors. I'm not even such an ice cream fan, but I love this place.

Mike S.

Yelp
Nacho Cheese with Tortilla Ice Cream? Really?... "Yeah, you should try it, but you have to be a nacho cheese flavor lover" the owner says to me. Incredible! It really tastes like nacho cheese (Yeah yeah, and the snozzberries taste like snozzberries.. we get it Mike!) Since nacho wasn't the flavor I was feeling I went for a more traditional Tate's cookie ice cream and double cookies and cream flavor both were delicious. My friend had mint chip and coffee ice cream insisting its a thing. I mean mint chocolate goes together then why not with coffee? I taste - the flavor is good, but the combo is not for me. Not crazy about the bright green color of the mint ice cream, but I know its a thing. This place is a lot of fun with crazy stickers, cereal boxes, signs adorning the place. Trying to read all the ice cream flavors are a bit of a challenge since they use different fonts and it blends in with all the other signs, but no matter because the folks behind the counter are friendly - they will guide you to a choice of something great. Be advised this place does get busy - we got lucky and ordered right away, but as we were standing around the place got packed - with such inventive and fun flavors its easy to see why.

Yelp
The best service I ever had the owner was so nice and helpful gave us a sample of every ice cream my daughter is a allergic to peanuts he made sure he washed the scoop so he doesn't cross contaminates definitely going back! Such a nice guy

Yelp
Didn't know that there was such an amazing ice cream spot right near home for so many years!!! Living in queens, 2 miles away from Max and Minas, i am so upset i was not aware of this place before. They had a great selection of ice cream. the interior of the store looked like charlie and the chocolate factory - cereal box edition. it was covered in cereal box designs floor to ceiling! truly a nostalgic feeling witnessing all the covers . the ice cream options they had were incredible. from ferrero rocher to spongebob, we were truly faced with difficult choice of which ice cream to pick. thankfully the servers were sooo nice and helpful! they continuously offered us flavors to try as we were stuck and did not at all grimace and look angry as we asked for more (as sm do in other shops *baskin* ). There's no sitting spot in the shop. If you're around flushing in one of these hot summer days, try this spot out! Also wanted to add that we don't usually give out 5 stars, but this spot really surprised us :))

Howard L.

Yelp
I have not been here in many years and I am happy to say it's just as fantastic as years ago. The shop itself is absolutely adorable, the service was great. The Tates chocolate chip cookie ice cream was absolutely outrageous! 11 out of 10! Run, don't walk there!

Eric R.

Yelp
I can't believe I lived in Flushing all my life and just now came across this gem! Wonderful place and for us 40+, tons of fun nostalgia on the walls. As for the ice cream, it's amazing! Wacky (in a good way) flavors that will leave you wanting more. Such a fun spot. Highly recommend going!

Yelp
Great place for a late night dessert. They close later on Saturday nights versus the other nights. So, my friends decided to bring us here after we hungout late. Came in and wasn't expecting this hole in the wall ice cream shop that I wouldn't have noticed. It was filled with so many customers trying to get samples and scoops. The two people who were behind the counter were so friendly and gave out so many samples. You ask and they give a huge spoonful to each person. After trying so many samples, I ordered the small size which gives you two scoops. For the first scoop I asked for tate which taste exactly like tate cookies. It is so good ! For my second scoop I asked for peppa pig which tastes like a light vanilla flavor with a kick of something else I think it was rice krispy. I will definitely be coming back!

Chris C.

Yelp
What an amazing place. Has this awesome nostalgic feel Marc the owner is amazing. He let us taste all the different wonderful, unique flavors they have. He was so friendly and kind. He was very excited to share all of his flavors with us. Of course I could not go with the boring vanilla, so I chose pistachio nut and it was delicious. Definitely coming back. Very happy little place...

Mickey C.

Yelp
Cute place with cereal boxes as wallpaper. I had the small (2 scoops). You get to choose 2 flavors. I chose Tate's (chocolate chip cookie) and fresh brewed coffee on a sugar cone. Loved both. I love coffee and the fresh brewed coffee ice cream was nice and strong like Vietnamese coffee. Will be back to try other flavors. There's metered parking in front.

Sunny C.

Yelp
Found this gem of a place right near my college! The people that work here are the kinds, most generous people. The ice cream flavors, decorations, and energy within this ice cream shop are different from what you'll find anywhere else. The walls are decorated with limited edition cereal boxes, stickers, tie dye, string lights, frisbees and are super colorful. There are some flavors that are always there such as Spongebob and Cookie Monster, but the rotating flavors are what I love seeing on their Instagram page. My personal favorite that always brings me in is anything from Max & Mina's with blueberry in it. If you see it, definitely try it! The Fruity Pebbles fluff, Krispy Kreme Strawberry Donut, Dunkaroos, and blackberry chip are delicious. I am not a fan of Fruity Pebbles cereal, but the ice cream is a different story. Deeeeelicious! Sizes offered here are small (2 flavors), large (4 flavors), pint, quart, shakes (which come in small or large), or a 2.5 gallon tub. If you live far away, I recommend bringing an ice cooler with you to get some pints, because after trying their cool flavors, you'll want to bring some home to family & friends! There used to be a few chairs to sit inside and enjoy your ice cream, but they've been temporarily removed due to COVID-19 social distancing rules. Great spot to bring friends/a date to. There is some metered parking outside and free parking along the side streets. Cash preferred. You'll be charged a small fee if you pay with card.

Monika B.

Yelp
Hands down one of my favorite local ice cream spots! The atmosphere itself is neat and artistic with cool images on the walls and the ice cream is delicious. Would definitely recommend if you're in Queens.

Andrew K.

Yelp
Quite simply put, Max & Minas is one of the BEST ice parlors I've ever been to. From the whimsically cereal box decorated walls to the similarly themed ice creams, it's a blast from the past that anyone can enjoy. Each bite brings back nostalgia of waking up early on Saturday mornings to grab a bowl of cereal for the morning cartoon lineup. While they do have some of the standard ice cream parlor flavors, go for the cereal infused ice cream; you'll love it un-cone-ditionally! PS. Be sure to check their hours of operation as they have changed recently.

Pooja S.

Yelp
This is a cute little place to to get ice cream - owner lets you try as many flavors as you want. Don't get greedy of course lol - I stuck with good ole coffee & cookies & cream but they had some interesting flavors I've never seen before. Fruity pebbles?? Cap n crunch?? Come on now!

Mila S.

Yelp
Amazing service, amazing ice cream, more flavors than you can imagine, I think I tired over 10 until I decided on the one I want to eat and more to take home. Pistachio and blueberry were my favorite! You can find chocolate and vanilla anywhere, so I always go for the flavors you can't get anywhere else, and their pistachio has actual pistachios, gives an amazing crunch and feel. I imagined the place to be bigger but all the cereal boxes make it really cute.

Michelle D.

Yelp
This is one of the best Ice cream parlors I've ever been to. The place is uniquely decorated with cut outs of cereal boxes with a retro vibe. There are so many flavor options and a lot of unique ones. In this COVID period you can try out the flavors beforehand but you need to step out of the store during. So ask for several flavors you want to try, have it outside, then come back and ask for what you want. Honestly, picking ice cream flavor can be very difficult, especially when everything tastes good. However, I decided to go with the Lara Bar Cashew and Peanut Butter & Jelly. The ice cream was very creamy and I like how mine got a nice crunch (from the nuts) mixed in. It results in amazing texture and the flavors are uniquely delicious too. I enjoyed the walk home even though it's freezing and the ice cream turned my fingers numb, but it was well worth it.

Gordon S.

Yelp
I'll keep this one short and simple... The ice cream looked fantastic from afar! Unfortunately, my mobility scooter couldn't fit through the door at this spot. 2/5 Rating for looking delicious, minus 3 points for being non-inclusive.

Eleni I.

Yelp
This is hands-down my favorite ice cream shop of all time and I'm going to tell you why. From the moment you walk in you can feel the positive vibes and as you look around you will notice that there are cereal boxes, bumper stickers and dancing bears that cover the walls all the way up to the ceiling. Bruce and his brother Mark make you feel like you are family and are always wonderful to chat with. What is really unique and interesting about this place is that their ice cream flavors are constantly changing and if your a cereal fan, then this is definitely the place for you. In addition they give out as many free samples as you like, they actually want their customers to try all their flavors and choose the best one that they like. Some of my go to ice cream flavors are the captain crunch cookies and cream or the Tates cookie ice cream.

Danielle D.

Yelp
Such a fun ice cream shop! My husband and I ventured over from Forest Hills after walking the Pat Dolan trail and Max & Mina's was the perfect pit stop. The colorful decor and plethora of unique flavors give the shop a Willy Wonka vibe and what could be better than that? It reminds me of New Paltz or Asheville. The people are so nice and the ice cream is delicious! I grew up in PA and good old fashioned ice cream can be hard to find in NYC. Max & Mina's has all the creamy goodness with the added bonus of fun flavors. I had the Reese's Pieces caramel and coconut Oreo and my husband had rum raisin and Tate's. They were all delicious and we'll definitely be back to try more! Love that you can try 2 flavors in a small.

Olivia S.

Yelp
Cereal infused ice cream? Every bite brings back nostalgia of your favorite childhood cereals! I have to say that the cereal flavors are well infused into the ice creams. So bravo to Max & Mina's! Max & Mina's has limited hours, depending on sundown. Make sure to check before heading over!

Najmi A.

Yelp
The flavors were delicious, they weren't overly sweet. The portion sizes are worth the price. I will say while eating it, the ice cream did melt pretty fast so make sure you grab napkins. The people that were there where a great help. I didn't feel rushed to order and they allowed me to try as many flavors as I wanted. The store is decorated with limited edition cereal boxes, colorful stickers, and frisbees. This is in the heart of queens so it was a bit difficult to find parking.

Hsin-Yi W.

Yelp
Max & Mina's has been on my bucket list for years since their business hours vary and they don't match with our daily schedule. We read an article about the world's top 50 ice cream and they were #21. We were motivated by the great ranking and made up our mind to visit in the shortest time. They open at 8:30pm (Yes it's pm and you didn't read it wrong.) on Saturday so we had an early dinner and visited right after dinner. We arrived at around 8:30pm and there was a line already. The decor is colorful and artsy with cereal box cutouts on the wall. The owners are super welcoming and friendly. There is a great variety of flavors on their menu and we had a difficult time to decide. One of the greatest things is customers can have combined flavors in one scoop. We had their signature Spongebob and Peanut Butter cookie Mess. It was delicious, amazingly creamy and rich. It is definitely underrated and everyone needs to come try it.

Rion C.

Yelp
Decided to give this place a try after hearing about it. Had no idea how close it was and was surprised that I never realized it was an ice cream place. Always thought it was a comic book place because it reminded me of ones that have similar decors in Manhattan and different neighborhoods in NYC. As to the flavors, they are all homemade and creatively composed. The Tate's ice cream was very good and Captain Crunch Cookies and Cream was just as good. The cup with the Linzar Tart flavor tasted like the actual dessert. The server had no issues with letting you try multiple samples of their flavors. Very friendly and patient and you don't feel rushed when deciding on your selection. Price is not cheap but they are not cheap with the portions. Now I have a place to come to for a treat when in the mood for something tasty and delicious. Thank you Bruce for your hospitality and making our first time experience one to fondly remember!

Jerry A.

Yelp
Really really impressed with this old skool ice cream parlor. Lots of variety with flavor combinations and they will make you any kind of ice cream topping combo you ask for as long as they have it!

Linda T.

Yelp
I came here about 2 months ago for the first time after reading the reviews. It did not disappoint!!! If it's your first time you can definitely ask them for recommendations and they will tell you what the popular flavors are and scope what you're interested in. They also let you sample flavors too which was really nice. There is a bit of wait, I remember there being at least 6-8 people in front of me when I came but the line moves quickly! Definitely grab some napkins if you eat slow (like me) or else the ice cream will melt and end up everywhere!

Sharon J.

Yelp
Consider me a fan of @maxandminas ! We got two of the most popular flavors: Tates & Capn Crunch Cookies and Cream. I am a pretty big fan of both loved the Cap'n Crunch infusion to the cookies and cream. It brought me back to my childhood Cap'n Crunch days, and actually the whole atmosphere of this spot brought me back with all the old cereal decor. However regardless of how I love cookies & cream, the chocolate chip cookie lover in me has me gravitating more towards the tates flavor, the softened cookies gave such a homey vibe and paired so well with the creamy ice cream. This place is definitely generous with the amount of mix ins too, both scoops were cookielicious as hell. Will be back soon for sure! the owner was very friendly as well and let me take a video of the store for my page.

Colleen O.

Yelp
Found this when searching for cures for a sudden ice cream craving. Zero regrets! Decor is fun and unique and whimsical! Servers are friendly, treats are thick, creamy and delicious. Both me and Mom highly recommend! We're already planning our second visit with Dad in tow.

Jackie S.

Yelp
Max & Mina's is a cute local ice cream shop. I love how the walls are plastered and decorated with cereal boxes and stickers. You can't miss it and it certainly is a very fun and family-friendly store. Street parking is available and note that this store is cash only! A single scoop is $5.50 while a double scoop is $9. The store regularly changes the ice cream flavors that are available, and they have some really fun options like the Spongebob, Cap'n Crunch, and the Cookie Monster. I tried the Cookie Monster when I was there; it was very fresh and was basically a blue version of a cookies and cream.

Mia R.

Yelp
Five star all day every day!!! One of our fav treat spots and always fun to see what new boxes are on the wall and try a new flavor!

Alianna N.

Yelp
Cute small ice cream parlor with a variety of flavors and a cool wall filled with pics of different cereal boxes which makes it a cute photo op.

Lamiha R.

Yelp
The customer service here is 10/10!!!!! If youve never been here, they are eager to let you try lots of samples and get a taste of different flavors. He even gave an extra sample when he saw my mom with me and let her try some as well instead of just giving one to me. Its a nice family run shop and the customer service will have you coming back! Amazing people and ice cream.

Tina L.

Yelp
Delicious ice cream and unique flavors !!!! Service was great and we were able to try lots of flavors before we decided.

Marla T.

Yelp
My favorite ice cream shop! Unique flavors and kind wonderful owner and staff. I always feel welcomed. Hidden gem in the Kew Gardens/Flushing area! Be advised they close early on Fridays and open late late on Saturdays to observe the Sabbath. Check their IG for their latest creations/flavors. A one of a kind shop!

Yoly B.

Yelp
Summer nights during COVID have just been different. In search for a a little piece of normalcy, I decided I wanted ice cream. Not just any ice cream though. Not your regular food chain ice cream. I ended up googling ice cream in Queens, and stumbled upon Max & Mina's. The reviews sold me and I took a drive. First let's talk customer service. They knew I was a newbie and allowed me to try every flavor they had so I could make the right decision. They even gave me a little story on their humble beginnings. Loved the feel of a mom and pop shop it gave off. I tried sooooo many flavors from fruity pebbles, to capt crunch cookies and cream.. and let's not forget the PB&j waffle ice cream. My favorite (s) however was the Tate's bake shop ice cream and the sponge bob cake ice cream! I totally recommend this place and they will be seeing more of me this summer. Follow my food page on IG @picandonyc for more of my foodie adventures

Yelp
I came on a Saturday night (make sure to double check their opening times). They open at 8:30pm on Saturday and boy, the locals all know this place. By 8:30 groups of people start coming in, all eager for their favorite ice cream flavors. Stepping into the shop, you are immediately welcomed with color sensory overload - in a good way. This family owned dessert shop is sweet and cozy, with all types of cereal box covers as decor on one side of the wall; frisby, stickers, and everything colorful is plastered elsewhere, including the ceilings, leaving no inch of space unused. As a first-timer, in addition to the sensory overload, I also had choice overload. There were so many types of ice cream to choose from! The store had a list of their standard flavors, and also a list of their special seasonal flavors. Thank goodness the owners (?) were super patient and willing to explain what each flavor entails but trying to figure out what to order while having other customers behind you is still mildly stressful. After trying out what seemed like many spoonfuls, I decided to go with waffle choc cake and cookie dough. Important side note: you can choose up to two flavors for one scoop in the cup, which was definitely a plus for me. The waffle choc cake had a maple syrupy taste (probably due to the waffle part), the the cookie dough had a lot of dough chunks, both of which I enjoyed. It will probably take many trips to try all the flavors, but I will be back! And I know which two flavors I'd like to try on my next. Sweet tooth's, you're in for a treat!

Noshin A.

Yelp
The flavors and decor are all pretty, wonderful, and colorful. I tried the cookie monster and cotton candy flavor, but unfortunately it was not something outstandingly amazing. I have tried a LOT of ice cream. Unfortunately, the ice cream here is not exactly memorable. I want to come back and try new flavors though, and maybe see if I'll find a hidden gem.

Daniel F.

Yelp
Max and Minas customer service has definitely improved over the last 2-3 years. They have been experimenting a lot lately with new flavors and they're making Ice Cream fun. We go in and get a couple of samples before choosing which pint to take home. Glad to see them turn things around here and it has become my favorite ice cream spot once again.

Jeff G.

Yelp
This place should be way more popular. I have never had flavors like this. Even if you don't like the crazy ones (Lox ice cream) this place has amazing ice cream. The ice cream is so creamy and the combinations of flavors are so unique. Don't go here and get vanilla or chocolate you will be wasting an opportunity. Don't forget to sample! They are very generous letting you try as many as you need to make your choice. I don't know if I have a favorite. They have a few flavors that don't change but usually they rotate flavors often so go back and keep going back for new flavors.

Marissa K.

Yelp
Went here on a whim. Sooo many flavors to choose from. I did one scoop of coconut and one scoop of cotton candy. Usually when I get cotton candy ice cream it's always way too sweet for me. This did not disappoint at all. The cotton candy ice cream was surprisingly wonderful and not too sweet. Also the flavors did not taste artificial like most do. The coconut ice cream had a decent amount of coconut flakes which I enjoyed. I would consider myself a coconut snob I love everything coconut this one was pretty good. Can't wait to come back for more!

Cecilia M.

Yelp
Quick customer service, unique ice cream flavors and cool colorful decor. Will definitely be coming back.

Eric V.

Yelp
Because of the amount of time it takes to do a review, I have policy of reviewing places ONLY either when the experience is great or awful and Max & Mina's is definitely noteworthy. Based on the other reviews, you don't need me to tell you that the ice cream is anything short of exceptional. What I particularly appreciate about this place is that the owners and workers are friendly and nice. That to me is worth more than anything. You can have the best tasting food, but if the staff is rude and uncongenial, it makes for a horrible experience. We were in Queens for an event and decided to stop by here for dessert. I'm not sure if the older gentlemen behind the counter was one of the owners, but he very pleasant and super accommodating offering our big party whatever samples we wanted. Not knowing this was our first time here, he treated us like new customers answering all our questions and offering us samples from their extensive menu. I wish more places paid more attention on how they treat customers because it sure goes a long way. We're now a fan of this place and plan on stopping by again the next time we're in the area.

Brooke Z.

Yelp
even though i have to take quite a long trip to visit max & mina's, i've never regretted it! they're always going to be one of my favorite ice cream shops in the city, and i can't wait to come back. i'm not a big fan of how a single scoop is now $7.50, which is around a dollar more expensive than it was last year. but, i definitely feel like you'll be getting your money's worth, considering the fact that the quality is great and the portions are quite generous. not to mention, you can get either 1 or 2 flavors in a single scoop, which i really appreciate. you can try out free samples to figure out which flavor is the one for you! plus, they're coming out with new flavors almost every day, so there'll always be a new flavor to try on your next visit. 7/28/22 -peanut butter & jelly cookie dough: i'm generally not the biggest fan cookie dough in ice cream, but i love the combo of pb&j! i think that the most dominant flavors were definitely the cookie dough and peanut butter, which caused many of the bites to just taste like a pb cookie in ice cream form. but, the bites that did have jelly were even better because they added a refreshing touch, which balanced well with the nutty sweet combo already there. the cookie dough bites were pretty tiny and you were able to get some in every bite! the ice cream itself was creamy which paired great with the texture of the cookie dough. this was definitely quite sweet because of the cookie dough, so i'm glad that i didn't get this entire scoop to be just this flavor. (4.5/5) -croissant nutella: if you're a fan of nutella, this is definitely the flavor for you. it's basically a chocolate croissant in ice cream form! there are swirls of nutella throughout, and even pieces of croissant layers in every bite! i loved how the flakiness from the croissant adds a subtle texture on top of the creamy ice cream. not to mention, the base itself tastes quite buttery, which exactly resembles the taste of a croissant. since there wasn't too much nutella, the ice cream wasn't overwhelmingly sweet which i really appreciated. (5/5)

Yelp
Such a unique ice cream spot in the middle of Flushing you just have to go and try incredible choices of ice cream

Joseph C.

Yelp
The one thing I like most about Max and Mina's was how friendly the staff were. There are plenty of flavors and some of them have creative names where you may not understand what flavor it may be, but the staff were great in letting us try each and every flavor. They definitely knew their ice cream, as they explained each flavor with detail and even suggested ones to try if we were having a hard time. As for the ice cream, they give you large scoops, so if you think you shouldn't be having too much dessert, one scoop is definitely enough if you came here after a good meal. The ice cream is smooth and chock-full of flavor. It's hard to go wrong with any flavor, but personal favorites of mine would be the coffee and Cookie Monster. In addition, the decor of the place is fantastic, bringing back some nostalgia of childhood cereal favorites and there are even some cereals that you may have not known existed.
