"This cafe and bakery serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner to locals hungry for traditional German fare like jaegerschnitzel and currywurst. The zigeurner schnitzel plate, two pork loins smothered in a bell pepper gravy, is a unique offering, and on Wednesdays and Thursdays they offer a sauerbraten special until sold out. Breakfast is served all day and the bakery case is filled with traditional German pastries and cookies like black forest cake, berliners, and the beloved broetchen rolls." - Matt Lardie

Ordered the Hawaiian schnitzel. The fried pork chops were perfect. I was surprised to see a piece of sandwich ham on top with a slice of pineapple under a slice of cheese on top. Nothing special there. The German potato salad was good. The cucumber salad was good. The sweet tea was excellent. Service and waitress was excellent. Located in a strip mall with small seating area.

Google
We ordered 5 different dishes! No complaints on any! The flavors of the gravy and the Chicken Schnitzel was Delicious 😋 My dad enjoyed his Chicken Schnitzel Salad, my mom her Jägerschnitzel Plate! My kids had no complaints!

Google
Very pleasant to go here. The food is amazing every time I eat here. The staff are very attentive to the customers. Nice cozy place for those that been to Germany: (Pictures and decorations) even those that never been. A lot of German is around the walls.

So, soooo good! Looking for German comfort food? Please come here. You will definitely leave happy. We sure did!

Google
Finally found a decent spot for German food 😋 The curry sauce is fabulous 👌 I would bring my German friends here. 🧡

Google
The closest you’ll get to feeling like you’re in a German cafe in NC. The decor was dead on and the server was wonderful. We went at dinner and were told we were lucky we’d come on a slow night so we still had a lot of options to choose from. The Wurst was easily the best I’ve had in the states and the German yogurt dressing was like being back in Bavaria. No fuss, no frills and the wait you want for good food. We’re already planning to try to make it to a breakfast here.

Google
Good German food. Bratwurst was a little dry, all the other food was great.

Google
Great spot for German Cuisine in Fayetteville. Loved the vibe and the food was excellent! Our service was great and we also bought some cakes to go. This restaurant has many options and authentic recipes. A great kid's menu as well. Check them out if you're in the area. Wonderful lunch menu as well.

Yelp
Dinner sampler was a fantastic way to try so many things and at a very good value! Cucumber and potato salad options and then Spätzle as the side. Cute little restaurant and bakery with quirky German things scattered around. Strong team work on the front of the house to service everyone. So happy to have stumbled upon this restaurant!

Yelp
I'm totally biased because I love German restaurants. Don't let it being off of the main drag in Fayetteville be a real not to come in and enjoy some GREAT German food! This is a hidden gem in the Sandhills, a very pretty inside and cozy place with yummy German pastries and breakfast and dinner. It is now one of my GOTO places when I need a Deutschland fix. Highly recommend!

Destan C.

Yelp
The service was very good. Delicious food. Hole in the wall. But a hidden gem! Support them they are the last delicious German spot in town.

Nancy T.

Yelp
Had the Thursday special, beef sauerbraten. So tender you didn't need the knife they provided. The red cabbage was on point too. It is small and we had to wait just a bit. It was worth it.

Mary F.

Yelp
I love the cozy feeling, the people, and of course the food! You're missing out if you don't try this spot.

Shawn W.

Yelp
A nice place for good German food. The waitress was nice and the atmosphere is relaxing. The deserts are wonderful.

Kerwin T.

Yelp
Food is good! Kids love it and love the cakes Service is fantastic Only no breakdown on the receipt / breakdown

Melanie N.

Yelp
We went for a late lunch on the weekend. We all enjoyed our meals, kids included. Super crispy chicken schnitzel was on point. It's kind of weird that they have all these desserts in the case but some are spoken for. They weren't boxed or set aside. The waitstaff was attentive and service was quick, will definitely return.

Yelp
We were passing through Fayetteville and decide to stop into Max and Moritz for lunch. The reviews for M&M are good but don't do the restaurant justice. The service is friendly and prompt and the food is truly out of this world! We started with cup of the Gulash, which was like being punched in the mouth with luscious beefy flavor. Not only was the broth so tasty but the beef in the Gulash literally falls apart in your mouth... I'm obsessed! My husband and I each order a different plate/sides for our entrees so we could try more things. I ordered the Currywurst plate with the red cabbage and spaetzel. The sauce was fantastic, knockwurst was yummy and cooked just right. The showstopper of lunch was my husbands meal.... He got the Beef Roladen plate with German potato salad and sauerkraut. Let me tell you that this dish was so delicious and beef so tender, I literally could not stop eating off his plate! Not to mention they have 2 coolers full of delicious looking desserts. Next time we will try some cakes too! If you haven't tried M&M yet, you must! We will absolutely be back !!

Gwendolyn H.

Yelp
My first time here. It was yummy! Staff is super friendly. Service was fast. Xxxxxxx

Roger S.

Yelp
I wasn't expecting to find a German restaurant while in Fayetteville, but I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the Jägerschnitzel with a side of kroketten and purple cabbage, everything was fantastic. I was there in the early evening n, so seating wasn't difficult, but with the size of the place I could see it could be a problem at busier times. I think that I will definitely be back the next time I am in the area.

Norm A.

Yelp
Recently visited for lunch, my wife's isn't too familiar with the foods. Her sauerbraten as outstanding and my cutlet was excellent. Sides so very good, service also no complaints. Go here with confidence.

Nathan K.

Yelp
today i went to max and moritz for lunch. i ordered the pork schnitzel and french fries. The french fries were over cooked. then i ordered chicken cordon bleu to go It was over cooked and shaped like a baseball. very unprofessional. i will never go there again and will not recommend anyone to go there.

Chelsea B.

Yelp
Absolutely phenomenal food! You can't go wrong with any of the main dishes and I highly suggest the red cabbage, sauerkraut, potato salad and spaeztle sides. Don't skip the desserts, either! Super friendly and nice staff--will definitely be going back.

John D.

Yelp
Caution the only meal o tried was the sauerbraten. And that was not any sauerbraten I've ever tasted. I was served roast beef with brown gravy. I've made sauerbraten several different recipes. And gotten it at different German restaurants. I mentioned to the waitress who was very nice after the first bite and she told me it is made differently in various regions. Which I did know. But all of them still have a tangy sweetness to them. The red cabbage was alright. But truly I will not go back as I prefer the traditional sauerbraten. Red Cabbage Sauerbraten Spaetzle Noodles

Jeff L.

Yelp
Food is always awesome, staff is always friendly! I've been eating here close to 20 years I'd guess and have never had a bad experience.

Jeff R.

Yelp
Stumbled across this great place in Fayetteville - so happy I did. Had their Octoberfest lunch special, bratwurst and a brochen with a side of red cabbage. Dee-licious brat! The red cabbage was terrific and the brochen was perfect. Service was fast and very friendly. Love this place - will be back.

Kaitlyn B.

Yelp
We've loved this place since I was a kid! There are so many delicious entrees, but our family favorite is the jaegerschnitzel dinner plate. If you go for lunch, ask for a brochen to be added to your meal! You can't go wrong with any of the desserts. Grab the napoleon if you like a lightly sweet desert with layered pasty. If you want something lighter, the apple, strawberry, and cherry danishes are great.

Donna C.

Yelp
Well we were hoping to try this place . A lot of people have said it was good. We waited outside for our turn to be called. It seems some favoritism was put in place and while we were the only ones standing outside. Waiting- there was people that just had walked up . Asked if they were busy . We said yes snd you have to wait , they went inside and came out. Got behind us . Space came availability shortly afterwards - the 3 behind us were called in. I went to check- We watched this happen. Hubby said well let's go . So we left. Pray they can at some point get a bigger place . So they can seat more people. So we can try their food. We like to support local places. So on that note - unless you are willing to wait a long wait . And possibly get bumped out of line. It's your choice . My husband felt it was wrong .. with what we watched happen

Dallas D.

Yelp
Delicious, fresh food. Knowledgeable and kind staff. I truly enjoyed the authentic German dishes. The desserts are incredible too!

Jessica C.

Yelp
If you're looking for great German food with a German atmosphere you must try Max and Moritz. They do not disappoint.

J C.

Yelp
The food was all right. I have definitely had better authentic German food before. Every German restaurant I've ever been to has served German beer and hot fresh pretzels, this restaurant had neither. We will not be returning as I had a stomach ache afterwards.

hans k.

Yelp
We visited during the week and it was busy at 5:00 pm. The prices were very reasonable and certainly good value. I think our waitress was very attentive and quick service. Cons: were that the schnitzel wasn't pounded well so were thick but hard to cut and fryer needed an oil change. Good enough for the price! Easy parking.

Nam S.

Yelp
Good food, great service. Super friendly. All the food were delicious. Definitely going on our list to stop by again next time we're in Fayetteville, NC.

Zobeida M.

Yelp
This place is always busy, if you're that busy you need more help and a better way to acknowledge your customers. Service was horrible today. Didn't get acknowledged until 4 other customers came in and I had to ask for help.

Rachel T.

Yelp
This local business is an absolute hidden gem! Traditional German food is delicious here! Owner/waitress is German :) and very pleasant! All of the decor makes you feel like you've been transported to Germany. We had a wonderful breakfast, and the lunch/dinner menu looks fab too. Here you will find all the classics--bratwurst, brötchen, potato salad, schnitzel, spaetzle, and of course wonderful German desserts! We will definitely be back!

David B.

Yelp
Always a great experience. Being it's not a chain, and being they are German, it's almost like you went to a friend's house for great food!

Roy A.

Yelp
This place is the bomb. Best place I've been to around here. Sorry for the photo but had to show the end results of good food. The waitress was fabulous and at tentative. Will come back soon.

Sabina L.

Yelp
I could not wait to get some German food. The menu and the reviews were great and the prices were the cheapest I've ever seen at a German place. The goulash soup had a good robust flavor with just a few chunks of meat. My experience from my German mother had lots more meat and vegetables in it however it did still taste very good. It came with a brotchen which I think was better than what I had in Germany! I had to order more to take home! The schnitzel was very crispy and tender, easily cut with a fork! The red cabbage was also good and not too sweet. I was surprised that the potato salad was served cold but it was still good!! You get a lot of schnitzel for the great price! I will definitely go back to try other schnitzels!!

Nick H.

Yelp
I absolutely adore this place and the lovely ladies that run tables. It's definitely an older crowd that dines here and if you don't arrive early than they run out of some foods. The prices here are also cheap for the amount of food they give you. I've never had a bad meal and for 2 of us with alcohol, dinners and desserts, we escape at under $50 (not including tip). Highly recommend you give them a try and bring your friends.

Cynthia S.

Yelp
Great German food/staff with a wonderful little atmosphere. I personally love the fried schnitzel and potato salad. Don't forget to order your " Brotchen". You can enjoy the beer/wine, while listening to the music quietly playing in the background. After dinner desserts are a great way to end the meal and they have a few to choose from. I usually take one or two home to enjoy later. A definite taste of Germany.

Sam O.

Yelp
We stopped in this evening to try some German pastries. When we walked into the small and cozy restaurant we were automatically greeted by a very sweet German woman in the front who assisted us with picking our pastries. Homemade and delicious and we can't wait to go back and have a full meal! Be sure to grab a Bienenstich (Bee Sting Cake) when you stop in!

Bill M.

Yelp
Small place in a strip mall but well worth a visit. Very authentic German food! The servers were all German with accents so you know it will be spot on. I had a Ziguener schnitzel plate with the breaded schnitzel covered in a red and yellow pepper gravy. Really good. The beer on tap were a really good heffeviezen. A perfect match! Had a bowl of goulash to start that had awesome flavors. A solid spot for some really authentic German fare.

Cynthia B.

Yelp
This place is amazing always. I am always happy with my choices. Their side dishes are yummy. Red Cabbage & Jager Schnitzel personal favorites. Food is cooked perfect and delicious desserts IF you remember to save room. Well you could always take it to go.

Patricia U.

Yelp
A cute, quaint little restaurant with delicious homemade German food. The service was friendly and prompt. The food was hot and delicious and the serving size was generous. I had the jaegerschnitzel with spatzel noodles and gravy and I enjoyed it very much. My fellow diners tried various other dishes including the chicken schnitzel platter and everyone enjoyed their meals. My grandson really liked the child's meal of a brat and fries. We were very surprised at how well-priced the entire dinner was. I highly recommend Max and Moritz for a great comfort food meal.

Frank C.

Yelp
The staff speaks German, many of the patrons speak German....this place is German. Get there early, the daily specials sell fast and on the day we were there the place was packed. Don't be fooled... This cafe is nestled in a dump of a little strip in an area you might not want to visit after dark but it is truly a piece of Germany in Fayetteville. It has all the usual suspects on the menu including a very popular Jägerschnitzel, sauerbraten and rouladen. All of them come with rib sticking brown gravy that makes German food reviled by many and loved by me. On this particular day the special was sauerbraten which was not as tender as I like it but the flavor was spot on. The sides I chose were spaetzle and red cabbage. The red cabbage felt homemade and in my opinion the best I've had period. The spaetzle was quite good as well, although I like mine pan browned after boiling and some onion added. Plenty on German beers to choose from and two cases of desserts. We will be going back there often hopefully. Sadly the wonderful Indian restaurant next door is going through a rough spell and have no staff past covid. They demanded $20/hour wages and now it's the owners doing everything. So visit them too! We need to support great restaurants. I have a good idea...got to Max & Moritz for lunch, take a long nap under a tree and then go to Bombay Bistro for dinner!

Angela W.

Yelp
I miss German foods as I was born in Germany. I'm glad to have at least 1 German food restaurant near me. The overall meal was ok, except for the sweet n sour red cabbage. It was over cooked with too much sugar. The looks of it did not look fresh. But the ambience and service is great!

Bríanna T.

Yelp
The staff was friendly, the pastries are also great! The food reminded me of some of my childhood. My Oma and Opa have both passed away and I hadn't had a potato ball since, it was so special to me. We will be revisiting again because the music and decor really set the scene for me. I really felt all of the stories they would tell me when I lived with them and I could just picture myself in Germany. I've never left the country and of course some people could complain about something but I won't because for a second I was back at the dinner table in 2004. Definitely worth a visit, I recommend letting the Knodel cool off a little bit, I've always liked them cold or room temperature, when they are hot they are a mashed potato consistency and I used to eat them last at dinner and they cooled down fast. The cucumber salad is sweet and refreshing with a heavy meal. Spaetzle noodles are common with schnitzel and it was enjoyable! And of course, you won't be disappointed with dessert. The napoleon is always good, their baklava is amazing and the almond cookies have always been my favorite.

Erik L.

Yelp
German diner, no matter the look this was a spectacular meal and it had a great taste, it has been a while but I am glad I decided to eat here today. Jager Schnitzel with a cucumber Salad. Make sure if you come here for lunch be sure to grab the first seat available because if not you will be standing, this place fills up quick. The food is just that good and the staff actually speaks German if you want to practice hahahaha : ) I will most definitely be back again.

Josh D.

Yelp
Ever since I moved to the states I've been looking for authentic German food. This place def has it. Have yet to come across another place like max & Moritz. Love that they serve Brötchen, and had the Rinder Rouladen, which were delicious. Yes the bakery section is not like a standard German bakery, but the quality is there, if it's the German chocolate cake or the Black Forest cake, they never disappoint. Hoping to find a place like this where I live now.

Gman G.

Yelp
authentic German food Made by Germans Homemade black forest cake Fresh homemade rolls Many homemade pastries

Ashton F.

Yelp
Sehr gut!!! Met Kerstin friend of owner getting toes done she also recommended this place as well as a restaurant in murrelet beach! Love the food took my boyfriend for the first time he enjoyed it. Going to bring back more family to enjoy.

Angela W.

Yelp
Among the 3 german restaurants that come closest to the german atmosphere I once knew, this place fits the closest. Food is ok. Wish for more german cooks to open a restaurant here and show out! Their bakery items and german coffee are always the best!

James G.

Yelp
What a wonderful little spot, with authentic cuisine and delicious specialty items. The Goulash and Schnitzels are outstanding. Can be a bit cramped inside, but it's always been great when we stop in. Wunderbar!

Sean P.

Yelp
Clean, hidden away in a nondescript shopping center but don't let outside appearances fool you! On the inside it is charming and inviting. I had the Vienna schnitzel and it was awesome! Great German beer selection to top it all off. It is also a bakery and I grabbed some pastries to take to work, they look delicious! But as good as all that is the service is even better! Nicole was killing it! Able to handle a myriad of orders both on the phone and in person while keeping a sunny disposition!

Ric W.

Yelp
Growing up in a German household as a kid, this place reminded my of my childhood and my Oma and Opa's house in Germany. Great food and selection of beer. I love the corner tables too just like a traditional kitchen of the old days. They have a great selection of baked goods too. I have been here a few times and each time the food has been authentically great tasting. Small place but great dood

Beau B.

Yelp
Excellent place to get some authentic German food. Schnitzel was tender and light, and the gravy was deep but not too rich. Green beans were chilled and pickled; so delicious. Red cabbage was warm, tender, and had a hint of holiday spice. Awesome. Potato salad was tangy and the croquettes were lumpier than we've had (I prefer this). Wait was a bit long, but it was lunch rush hour and the food was fresh and hot. Will definitely visit again. Danke!!

M K.

Yelp
Waited outside for 20min to order-to-go from their bakery. Saw an older gentleman start walking out the door. I could see through the window the waitress calling for him and putting her hands in the air with attitude. He didn't hear her so I directed him back inside. She tried to give him his to-go order but turned out it wasn't his order. After 45 min, his order was mistakenly given to someone else. I saw another older gentleman try to walk in only to be shouted at to wait at the door. It's a small place, but with only one waitress taking orders, managing the register, and handing out takeout orders...she seemed absolutely stressed out and it wasn't a pleasant experience to walk into. Saving grace was that the dessert tasted fine.

Gary L.

Yelp
I had a very enjoyable meal. Nice cozy , friendly atmosphere. I would certainly visit again. I would recommend that you visit too.
