"Chocolatier Max Brenner has headed uptown with a new confectionary. While the Union Square location is more of a cafe, this new outpost focuses on its retail chocolate shop. The new spot is home to Brenner’s signature chocolates, pralines, and hot chocolate sets, as well as newly debuted items like a pistachio spread." - Emma Orlow

Google
This is a very small Max Brenner store on times square, I always love their hot chocolate but comparing to other stores it’s smaller & more expensive! Main Max Brenner in Union Square is much bigger & has more varieties of hot chocolate.

Our crepe and eggs were so good! I already plan to eat here again on my next visit!

We went here on a cold December night and ordered a hot chocolate, a pistachio crepe and a molten lava cake. The pistachio crepe was really good and it had the right balance of pistachio and sweetness. The hot chocolate though could have been much better! Given this place credits itself for being a house of chocolate, I would expect better.

Is it a New York thing tbe uninterested bordering on being rude and listless; or is it just an end of day boredome settling-in? Walked into this store near times square after a late night walk. T'was cold and rainy and thought a hot cuppa hot chocolate could do the thing. Yes, it did...but a better attitude could've helped slightly! A hot chocolate is a hot chocolate is a hot chocolate and nothing more. Well, this one was smooth on the palette but way too sweet after the second sip. Asking if the hot chocolate was 'hot enough' can be a mere query and not necessarily a comment on your quality control! And just so that you should know - I ordered hot chocolate and not a hot chocolate sugar syrup, coz that's what I think I got served!

Google
I was excited to try the famous hot chocolate at the Times Square location, but it turned out to be a complete disaster. What they serve as “hot chocolate” is just an overly sugared, chocolate-flavored drink—hands down the worst hot chocolate I’ve ever tried. After just two sips, I threw it in the garbage. For $8, this was an absolute rip-off. If you’re craving a proper hot chocolate, do yourself a favor and skip this location. Head to the Max Brenner restaurant near 14th Street instead, where the quality is actually worth the money. Please, Max Brenner, stop selling this so-called hot chocolate and save your reputation. This is not the standard anyone expects from your brand. 👎

Coffee is freshly roasted in-store! And the espresso infused chocolate ganache is amazing!

Google
This was the best hot chocolate I’ve ever had 🤤 I visited for my 18th birthday and I love sweets so I had hot chocolate and a cookie. It was pricy but expected since it’s literally Times Square. It was SO GOOD ☕️ 🍪 🤤🤤🤤🤤

Google
The best part of Max Brenner is the hot chocolate and this is the perfect place to grab a cup on the go. It's quick and absolutely delicious! Having said this, do not waste money on the can of hot chocolate powder. It's very expensive and it's nothing like the authentic chocolate that you get in the cafe.

Yelp
So happy we got to stop by and grab a hot chocolate for our boys to try. We used to have a Max Brenner at the Caesars Palace in LV but unfortunately they closed. Our son LOVED their hot chocolate. My husband and I ordered the Oreo shake which was extremely delicious! Still thinking about it. The service was decent and this spot was small and cozy. If you ever have a chance to stop by and your hot chocolate cravings arise, check out this spot- you wont regret it

Yelp
Max Brenner was recommended as a must visit chocolate store by a few friends on our visit to NYC but left us a bit disappointed. It was a very small menu and they were out of waffles so there wasn't much left to try. We ordered hot chocolate, which was nearly $8 for a small size. The hot chocolate was good but nothing too different from what you'd get anywhere else.

Vijay N.

Yelp
Of all of the premium hot chocolates we've tried in New York City, Max Brenner is by far the best! It has plenty of chocolate flavor without being bitter, and plenty of milky creaminess without being too dilute. It's a very nice treat to have on a cold day when walking around the city! The service was quick and easy, and there were lots of beautiful boxes and other chocolate goodies in the shop to look at while waiting for your drink. Would definitely recommend you check this out if you are going on a hot chocolate tour around New York!

Yelp
Came here on a whim while on my way to dinner and ordered their Italian hot chocolate with marshmallow and it was pretty good. It was sweet but I truly enjoyed it. In a way, it kinda remind me of the hot chocolates at the Bryant Park holiday market. This place is small so it's more of a grab and go spot. 4.5 stars

Christine N.

Yelp
First Impressions- came in the store in a whim for a cup of hot chocolate and to get a break out from the cold and crowds of Times Square... the store was pretty messy and had some trash on the floor, old receipts and napkins and leftover detritus. But there was only one girl in the whole shop, so I'll cut her some slack The Noms: I really enjoyed the hot chocolate. Not too thick, not too thin... it's the perfect consistency. I got it with whipped cream, and it was so creamy and delicious. Wish there would be something whimsical like chocolate shavings on top or some crushed peppermint... but honestly this was satisfying to get out of the cold after looking at the 5th ave light shows and seeing the Rockefeller Christmas tree. It really hit the spot. In conclusion - I would come back here for another cup of hot chocolate, it is pretty pricey at almost $7, but it was a nice treat, and I don't have it often. Would definitely recommend the hot chocolate here.

Yelp
Very patient gentleman at the counter. He was very busy but calm, even with a line forming outside after the Thanksgiving parade. He earns high stars. As for the store, it is small but with wall to wall chocolate merchandise. Hot chocolate was sold out so he kept telling people it's a bit of a wait for the next batch. Watched him pour a container of chocolate ganache into the milk. We didn't want to wait for it so asked for shakes instead. Generous amount of vanilla ice cream and scoops of ganache went in the blender. Granita shake was with ganache only, Oreo one was granita with cookies blended in. Looked good but we were disappointed bec didn't get the richer chocolate flavor. Their chocolate is just too sweet and reminded me of chocolate syrup.

Kathy H.

Yelp
Always the best. Worth the wait. Good gifts with boxes you dont need to wrap, chocolate will never disapoint. Great pit stop for client gift giving

Enna J.

Yelp
Small little shop in Times Square. Service was friendly. The sell chocolates, coffee, a few pastries and hot chocolate. I got a hot chocolate. It was just ok. SUPER thick and sweet so if that's not your thing don't get it. Also as with everything in Times Square of course it's overpriced for small portions.

Vidhi P.

Yelp
Oh my gosh the hot chocolate here is absolutely incredible!! I've been hearing about Max Brenner and needed to stop in for a rich, luxurious cup of hot chocolate. I got the Mexican hot chocolate with dark chocolate and it was phenomenal. They have soo many different flavors and you can basically customize your cup. There is a choice between milk, dark, and white chocolate. They even have mochas. Their menu is vast and has a ton of breakfast food but with a sweet twist. The restaurant, take out area, and shop are all packed but it's clear that they're serving up quality on every order. Amazing hot chocolate -- my new yardstick to measure all other hot chocolate to!

Varsha T.

Yelp
This dessert was impeccable! The chocolate was creamy, decadent, and paired well with the fresh strawberries. We toasted the marshmallows right at the table and it was such a fun and interactive experience.

Jaclyn P.

Yelp
Overall 4/5 stars! It was quite a windy night in Times Square and Max Brenner's hot cocoa definitely kept me and my hands warm! I only had the hot chocolate, which was phenomenal, but I do have to give a fair warning that although it was very nice and rich, the pure chocolate was wonderful but a little too sweet for my taste. If I had some almond or oatmilk to be able to displace the sweetness a bit, I would say it would've been perfect for my tastebuds! If you aren't a super sweet-inclined person, I would definitely go for the smaller serving (right photo in the one with the two cups!)

Apoorva G.

Yelp
Tried them at the Bryant park holiday market and LOVED the hot chocolate. Super rich but not in a sugary way, my only complaint is that they don't have vegan/non dairy milk options

Shanta B.

Yelp
Sad to be rating this restaurant 1 star because it use to be a fave but it definitely isn't the same anymore. From the constant wait (even with a resy), rude hostesses, drink & food quality, & not to mention the waiters don't know a thing or are clueless when asking about an entree on the menu. The chocolate martini was definitely the reason I always dined here but after today never again. They definitely changed it. The overall drink itself use to be so pretty with a huge hazelnut chocolate covered strawberry on top & today it was the saddest looking chocolate martini I've ever gotten. I'm not sure if they are rushing to make them but it's definitely not the same. Step it up max brenner because even the location is looking run down. They don't even have chocolate in the cases infront anymore on display let alone chocolate in the big barrels that's supposed to be running through the pipes!

Jennifer B.

Yelp
Max Brenners was awesome. In a good part of the city where you are close to Times Square, etc, but far enough away to not be overcrowded and price gouged. The ambiance was casual but special here due to its chocolate factory and cafe feel. It was a chilly night, so our group of three got hot chocolate. It was rich but delicious. We ordered wings and burgers. Our dessert was the restaurant's specialty chocolate fondue with crepes, waffle & whip cream, along with fruit chocolate biscotti. To top everything off, the service was perfect. Our server Matt was funny, prompt, and friendly and did not rush us even though it was the end of the night. Will come again!

Jessica R.

Yelp
Sweetest staff member ever! Frappes were amazing. Even got a great sample and will be headed back for souvenirs for friends before heading home.

Dan M.

Yelp
Really good hot chocolate! Got the Pumpkin Spice and a plain hot chocolate, and they were both amazing!

Rumit P.

Yelp
Great shop in the Times Square area. There were two employees, which is more than enough for the size of the store, about 100 square feet or something. There were an array of prepackaged chocolates in fancy boxes and a build-your-own-box option. They also serve fresh hot chocolate in little machines right at the counter. Definitely a place to stop by, even if just to look!

Corinna W.

Yelp
Best hot chocolate! Rich and thick, surprisingly not sickeningly sweet like some hot chocolates or chocolate bombs can be. They use their high-quality chocolate in this. If they did frozen hot chocolates, i'd be in line for the summer. Their chocolates and other confectionery items are also really good! They gave out some samples when I went by.

Sam P.

Yelp
Picked up some Valentines chocolate here and have to say the first thing that stuck me was okay how lovely the employees were! Given it was valentines they were busy but made a point to greet everyone that came into the store . The store is small but filled with chocolate treasure - they have pre made boxes, truffle boxes you can customize, hot chocolate- basically everything a chocolate lover would like. Their prices are not bad at all and on par for premium chocolates! We got a box of 9 truffles for valentines- beautiful looking chocolates in a pretty presentation box. The truffles were good - loved some of them - but one or two were not my favorite and were a little grainy for some reason but most were just delicious and make the perfect decedent little bit of chocolate

Yelp
Arrived at 10 am and they were not opened yet so went and rode bikes around Central Park and came back two hours later I had the hot chocolate While it is in no way as excellent as the hot chocolate in Spain it was very good The man working here today was super nice It made me want to buy a tin of the free sample of chocolate covered pecans he gave me

Sharm S.

Yelp
Cute little Max Brenner right in Times Square. Love to stop here for a quick gift. They also have warm chocolate chip cookies and hot cocoa!

Sunil R.

Yelp
Wow! How did I not know Max Brenner before? The caramelized pecans were exceptional and made it back home in my carry-on luggage. Wish they had a location back in the SF Bay Area.

Chrissy R.

Yelp
Great little shop for gift items (chocolates, tins etc) - 5 stars because they have Max Brenner's, famous warm, chocolate chip cookies, and hot cocoa - plus my stroller fits in the aisles!

Madeline M.

Yelp
I had been to Max Brenners before and it was quite good which was why I visited this spot. I got a hot chocolate, however I think it was expired or had gone bad cause it was sour and didn't taste good at all. I walked out before I tried it and didn't feel like walking back to try and get a refund. They were pretty fast with no line. I liked it in the past and was willing to pay the high price but this time it was just a waste.

Breanna S.

Yelp
I was there last night got me a hot chocolate I try'd to call them I can't speak to anyone so I'm writing this review to let everyone know and please be aware when you get your HOT CHOCOLATE, I found WORMS! In my hot chocolate please next time anyone goes here let the people know who is making the hot chocolate that they have worms!!!

Chanty G.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious chocolate and the hot chocolate was the best I've ever had! Everybody that works here is super nice. Can't wait to come back.

Natalie M.

Yelp
A must try for Chocolate lovers , def have to try at least once . Loveddddddd the chocolates fountain , how could you not

Laureen R.

Yelp
Meh!!!!! A lot of frozen food. Not a lot of variety of chocolates. Stale tortilla chips. Freezer burned wings. The place is empty and they seat you right on top of one another. They don't have anyone working the chocolate store. Do not go here

Saumya K.

Yelp
Tiny little store with AMAZING Hot Chocolate! Don't forget to get the marshmallows with it, and even the smallest hot chocolate is worth it! Loved the taste!

Beth D.

Yelp
Sorry, but this place is terrible. I used to take friends there for a touristy but fun experience when they visited the city, especially if they had kids in tow. Overpriced, but also the food is wretched, from the dry onion rings, to the hockey puck burgers. I ordered a fiesta salad for $24, I would have been much better off with a $6 version from Taco Bell. Better quality and price for the same amount of food. No more atmosphere, just loudness. Seating took forever (I did have a reservation). Servers were nice but our entrees were not ready at the same time. (We had kids with us, and their food came last with a 7 - 10 minute lag). I recall this place used to smell like chocolatem and incorporate chocolate into menu items - this is not the case anymore. Even the desserts weren't good. Super disappointing, I'm honestly embarrassed I spent money here.

Crystal C.

Yelp
DELICIOUS and FRESH food! The seasoning on everything compliments so well with each other. The desserts are cool, but not super delicious-- pretty basic in flavor but upscaled presentation. Lovely place for a birthday or fun night out

Vikash A.

Yelp
Great little chocolate themed shop and restaurant!

Chanelle R.

Yelp
Always delicious and high quality food. Interesting and creative desserts! Anything chocolate they have it

Mira C.

Yelp
Delicious chocolates! Highly recommend trying the dark chocolate whiskey! The hot chocolate was good, has hazelnut, very rich !

Alex S.

Yelp
This place got me incredible sick. I have a severe gluten allergy and went in to buy a chocolate syringe. I asked the guy if there was any gluten in it and he said no. The syringe was lumpy and disappointing and to make it worse, 20 minutes later I threw it up, a classic symptom of having gluten. Max Brenner needs to educate their staff and do better.

San W.

Yelp
One of our NYC go-to places! I was sending a friend here on her next trip & realized I'd never said "superb!".

Trevor S.

Yelp
The food has gone down hill since I've lived in the city for 10 years. A nice attraction for visitors but the food quality is bad and over priced

Alicia G.

Yelp
This place deserves a big fat zero. They are terrible employers...they hire and fire depending on which way the wind blows...they scream and yell at their employees...they contact you 24/7 with absolutely no respect for people's lives or their families...they are beyond cheap and will cut corners on quality whenever they get the chance just to save a penny...they have a very toxic work environment. Do not shop or dine at their venues and definitely do not work at any of them. They behave as if they are above the pandemic and have seriously unrealistic expectations. There are many other chocolate options in The Big A that treat their staff like human beings and have better chocolate!
