Maya's Snack Bar Review - Bushwick - New York - The Infatuation

"Walk into any of Maya’s Snack Bar’s three locations, and you’ll feel a touch of Willy Wonka magic in the brightly colored walls and carefully constructed pina locas and tostilocos. Truthfully, we can’t tell you to go to this whimsical Mexican snack shop and only get a paleta, but they’re pretty damn good and should be included in every order. We always get the watermelon one because it’s super cute (with a little green and white ice on the bottom to emulate the fruit) and refreshingly fruity, but the oreo is a must, too. Two whole oreos are lodged in a milky paleta with flecks of chocolate, making a perfect frozen candy bar to cool you down. Really, anything you get here will look and taste like the best kiddie birthday party you’ve ever been to. For the ultimate cool-me-off-please combination, start with the crunchy cucumber snack pepinos locos, eat an oreo paleta in the shop, and grab a watermelon ice pop for the road." - Neha Talreja

After dinner at Hellbender, we stretched our legs and walked over here for dessert. It’s an experience and one that I find special to NYC. I’m happy to hear that they continue to expand to more boroughs as everyone should have a Mayas Snack Bar nearby. It was fun to introduce my friends to something new as well :)

I’ve been here a few times, and I love it because the vibe feels just like the beach or something close! They have everything from ice cream to amazing dishes like the Chamoyada—my favorite. The service is quick, and while they don’t have a parking lot, there’s street parking with meters available. They also have a bathroom, indoor seating, and a patio area for outdoor dining. The place has a fantastic Mexican flair; it’s incredible!

Very good! Wide selection of snacks and foods with a nice display of culture and appetizing atmosphere. I got the fresas con crema, very good and loaded with freshly sliced strawberries!

I was here earlier today. I paid for an ice cream and left my phone on the counter. When I returned shortly after to get my phone back, the people working said that they did not have my phone. I asked if they could view their cameras to see if someone grabbed my phone. They said they couldn’t do this. I checked find my friends as I was sharing my location and the last location was this store. Right at the time that I left my phone, my phone was turned off, so of course I cannot keep following the updated location. When I returned to the store to show again that my phone had been left here, the person working said that the individual who has access to the cameras was in Mexico and would not be able to access the cameras for months. So either my phone was taken from the very staff saying that the cameras are inaccessible and do not want us to have access to footage or they are falsely advertising camera security. Very disappointed.

Just had amazing customer service from Ashely! I received a call from their broadway location informing me they didn’t have what I ordered through Uber Eats. I gave them a callback to let them know what to change the item for but they hung up on me and let the phone ring. This location answered almost immediately and after explaining the situation Ashely was able to help me out. She called the Broadway location and was able to help me get my order sorted. Her energy and efficiency was a 10/10. A big thank you to her!!

I had never tried desserts like these. They were good. I’m not a fan of spicy things so my favorite was the strawberry sorbet. They have tables outside for social distancing and only one person per order is allowed to go in at this time.

Went on the weekend during the late evening, was a few people there and a bit of a wait. Overall loved the type of snacks offered! Takes a lil to get used to what you would want, they did offer a variety of choices, ended up getting the Chamoyada. It was the first time I tried this. With the way it looks you would things it's extremely sweet; but it wasn't, which was a surprise! The tamarind candy and mango meshed well. You can customize the type of shaved ice flavor you want, which is awesome. I also tried the crazy esquites which is very customisable depending on chips used as well. It took a bit to understand size wise which would be better since I didn't want anything huge. They were helpful at the counter to explain. Crazy Esquites is the smaller portion compared to the Crazy Tosti Esquites. These are just the individual corn kernels and not on the cob. Loved them! The store itself has cute decor. The staff was also very courteous. When there was an issue with my order, she just gave me the one she made by mistake, as well as the corrected order I made. I would definitely return to this location!

Yelp
What a hidden treasure in Bushwick, Brooklyn! They're a family ran business with a Mexican L.A Vibe in New York! Maya's provided a La Michoacana style Mexican iceand Snacks with a unique twist! All is homemade and you'll be eating with your eyes and not your stomach in there. The ambiance is very colorful and a Mexican Barbie's dream with all the pink hues. I especially loved the traditional music playing while enjoying our sweet treats/snacks. The service was GREAT, super helpful and employee described each dessert with patience and flare. This place gets a WEPA in my book! I can't wait to come back and try other items on the menu. This girl loves a Tajin rim...I was in heaven!

Yelp
Their hours are kinda weird. Sometimes they should be open but they aren't. Honestly this place may be my go to when it comes to ice cream in ridgewood. I really like their pistachio popsicles or paletas. They have some interesting flavors. The prices are a bit pricey but a lot of ice cream is like that now. Each popsicle is $5.50 and the two scoops is about $7. They give a decent portion and it feels supporting the people that work there.

Yelp
The mangoneada is so good! I often come here with a friend and thats usually what we split. I would say the portion sizes are pretty generous. Staff has always been kind, and the place is bright and cool with a lot of seating. I think its a good place to get something to cool off with this heat. Great for a date or friends/family.

Yelp
When summer comes around, one of the first things that I crave is the mangoneada from Maya's Snack Bar. It is so good. Blended mango, with chunks of mango, topped with chamoy, tajin, and banderilla. It's the perfect balance of sweet and tangy. This treat is perfect for a warm summer day. (Or any day, really!) I also recently tried the esquites locos with doritos. The portion is huge and it's a tasty balance of cheesy, salty, and crunchy. What a delicious snack. Maya's also has ice cream and other treats. Go check it out and I know that you'll find something you love!

Yelp
Maya's Snack Bar is a hidden gem that took me back to my childhood on the islands. The snack ingredients are made with fresh and flavorful ingredients that reminded me of the delicious snacks I used to have at home. The menu is extensive and offers a great variety of options, all of which are bursting with flavor. One of the only downsides I experienced at Maya's Snack Bar was the language barrier between myself and the workers. It was difficult to communicate effectively since I don't speak Spanish fluently, and it seemed like she had some difficulty understanding me as well. However, despite this minor setback, she was still able to provide me with excellent service and a delicious snack that I thoroughly enjoyed. Overall, I highly recommend Maya's Snack Bar to anyone looking for authentic and delicious island-style food. The fresh ingredients and unique flavors are sure to satisfy your cravings, and the friendly staff will make you feel right at home. I can't wait to try more items off the menu and continue my culinary journey at Maya's Snack Bar. Cute Instagramable and tiktok moments!

Yelp
I came in for a snack and left with a few ! Originally I was just going to grab a mangonada (delicious btw) but they definitely had a lot more to offer I had to try it all. I also got a loaded ramen which had corn and queso fresco on top with a lime, absolutely what I was craving. Then the icing on the cake was their loaded chips, they have my favorite chips, sabritones, and I rarely see those especially being offered to be loaded up . The service was amazing the cashier that helped me also made my order immediately. The workers have a bubbly personality and really tie the whole experience together. I have no pictures because as sooon as I got my order I ate DOWN ! The place itself is so cute and colorful, they have seating just in case you want to enjoy your treats in house.

Yelp
Their snacks are unique and tasty, I highly recommend the desserts and fruta loca. They have many options from sweet to savory.

Yelp
I ordered a Mangonada never received it during 5-10 minutes. Everyone was getting their orders except me, I asked about my order and they questioned each other. Turns out no one had made it. Had to request for a refund because it was already past 15 minutes and the girl ended up giving me the wrong change. :/

Yelp
Here's an honest review. I came here for the first time with a friend who was new to the city and visiting. I was recommended this place by my sister who enjoyed it. This is a dessert or snack location that serves A variety of different items. I had a ice cream sandwich in Mexican sweet bread. For one the sandwich was huge, it had 2 scoops of fruity pebbles ice cream and Cookie Monster and both the flavors were good. The bread was soft and not hard and it was very sweet and delicious. My friend had the Manganada drink and he loved it. The straw is covered in tajin to add spice to the the sweet mangos. In terms of service the staff was nothing but nice and kind. They were patient and answered all the questions I had about ice cream flavors and what they would recommend. It was very nice to meet such sweet people. In terms of ambiance it's a small desert bar. It gave off a small town ice cream shop sort of vibe. I would love to go again sometime. This is my opinion but I encourage you to form your own.

Yelp
Making orders takes an eternity, especially at night. To be honest, I wouldn't advise going in at night; instead, go during the day.

Yelp
What a cute spot to enjoy some unique and delicious Mexican snacks. Alex prepared all of our items and everything was delicious! Can't wait to go back and try more snacks, they have so many options that you honestly don't even know where to start. Definitely worth a try, I loved each and every item I tried.

Service C.

Yelp
the fact this place is own by non Mexicans, pricing things so expensive I think they are ripping out people. Not nice.

Yelp
My first time I ordered and they missed my food and plus I called to the store people so rude with really bad attitude they charger me extra and I don't received the items ... like really so why they charger me extra for

Yelp
I always see people review this place and leave low ratings for either staff not speaking in English or not having menus in English and I need y'all to screw right the hell off. You have a Mexican snack bar in a predominately gentrified area and you have THE GALL to leave low ratings in the other location based off of that? Insane. ANYWAYS. I've been here twice and yes the wait is a little long depending on when you go but it's worth it. The food and snacks are so fresh and filling and full of flavor. I've gotten the chicharron preparado, the esquites locos and the pan dulce and ice cream. They even had a free drink with your order special going on that day. Everything is great and nicely presented. A lot of the time that goes into your order is not only preparation but they have A LOT of orders back to back and usually only have 2-3 people working so cut them some slack. I won't sit here and see people slander Latinos offering a lovely service in a gentrified neighborhoods and see y'all put them down for trivial reasons. If you have an issue with the menu being in Spanish, learn Spanish or learn how to ask the nice people who are serving you if they can translate because they speak English too. Stop being ignorant. The last two times I went, it's such a sweet nice environment and all the customers outside look so happy to have this snack bar in Brooklyn. Also I love the tres leches ice cream so much.

Natalia S.

Yelp
I love this place. My boyfriend and I love coming here for the ice cream! I personally think it's the best place to get ice cream in the area! My favorite is tres leches.

Ang B.

Yelp
First time visiting and felt like a kid in the candy shop! The guy was very helpful with going over the menu and very welcoming! Very cute colorful place and delicious fruity pebble homemade ice cream!!! Will be back! Nice to have snack bar in our neighborhood

Yelp
- I Came Here To Get A Mangonada, Expecting It To Ba Good Because I Hurd It Would Be. Horrible It Tasted Like Pure Water With Little Little Mango Taste And Chamoy. If I Could Give It 0 Stars I Would. I've Been To Mexico , And Different States In The US , Which All Have Been Much Better Than This. The Mangonada Does Not Taste Good And Tatse As If It Was Just Water.

Mariana C.

Yelp
They have many Mexican snacks that I love. I plan on trying all of them. The waiting time is a little above average or average, depending on the day and hour but it's totally worth it. I love it here !
