"Mayhew Bakery, founded by U.S. Army veteran Kelly Mayhew, is set to open next month in the Bayou St John neighborhood. The bakery will offer a variety of pastries, breads, and lunch items. The building, co-owned by Jared Zeller, will also feature a shared workspace. Mayhew, who gained popularity through a pop-up bakery in Old Metairie, will have a menu that includes cranberry-orange scones, apple-cinnamon muffins, pumpkin bread, various tarts, breads, cookies, and signature 'swirls'." - Clair Lorell

The tuna salad sandwich makes you want to slap yo momma!!! From the freshly made tuna salad, to the cheese, to the delicious honey wheat bread…it was fantastic. The customer service was great too!!

Some of the best baked goods I've had. Bread and pastries are amazing and they have a large assortment and variety. I'm honestly not the biggest pastry person but I find myself looking forward to our Saturday trips there when we buy almost one of every pastry. They started making pizza occasionally and I certainly hope they keep it up. People are very friendly. I just wish they were open more often!

I've already posted my rave reviews on this place. It is consistently good. Tonight was pop up pizza for a few hours. It was awesome. A little pricey, but it was a huge pie. We'll worth the price. All high quality ingredients, and of course a perfect crust. As usual, they were slammed. You know there has to be a reason why!

Google
This bakery is so good, we have to limit our visits since we leave with two boxes of baked goods when we visit for a biscuit. Great pastries, fluffy old-fashioned honey biscuits, crispy crust deep dish style pizza, plus sandwiches (recommend the meatball and the ham & cheese). A big plus, the pastries and cakes are not too sweet. Check it out, you won't regret it.

Google
This was a really excellent breakfast spot. We tried the quiche, hand pies, biscuits, cookies, and cinnamon roll, basically everything on the counter. Try to get there early before they run out! The coffee was also fantastic. Loved this place and would definitely go back!

Google
Tasty pizzas (especially the Sicilians) & friendly service... a great addition to the neighborhood; definitely give your business to this local gem

Google
Fantastic local bakery with kind and helpful ownership and staff. They are still getting up and running so things are a bit under-supplied. While they are fundamentally a bakery, the coffee is fantastic and I'm excited to see if they expand to include more eat-in snacks and usage of their outdoor space. Based on their limited food offering the potential is HUGE: don't skip the daily sandwich. With more eat-in options and extended hours this will be a 5star place. Very excited to have them nearby.

Google
This morning was my first time in the store. And after having searched the city for a cinnamon roll, I finally found Mayhew Bakery. While I wished that I had eaten there to enjoy the cinnamon roll warm it was delicious from home too. It was not too sweet and just the right amount of messy. I will definitely be going back.

Yelp
Stopped in on a rainy Saturday afternoon for a coffee (which was great) and to check out the bakery items. The owners were extremely friendly and explained all of their offerings - sourdough, pizza, sandwiches, baked goods. There was a very large, nice looking selection and I'll be back to try some of it when I'm actually hungry! You do go up a small set of stairs to get to the bakery, so I am not sure if it has a handicap accessible entrance or not.

Yelp
Great things were promised by what I read online, but I have to say I was a bit miffed when I arrived at this bakery and found it to be small, with a couple of tables, and only a handful of baked goods on sale. One or two types of loaves I think, a couple of pastry-type items, and a sandwich menu. The pizza I read about was nowhere to be found. I ended up taking a muffin, which was sugar coated and quite tasty, if indulgent, but there must be something more to what this business is capable of doing than the meager selection I walked into.

Yelp
Conveniently located along my walking route near the bayou, this bakery always delivers on baguettes and other baked goods. My favorite so far has been the cranberry oat bar- this should be a staple. It sucks that the offerings constantly change and I don't know going in what's available. 1 star off for service- I always feel rushed and like I should know what I want immediately. If they just put all selections on a tray and pushed to the cashier, they would know how to box the items and it would be more efficient. If this is confusing, go there and reply once you see what I'm talking about.

Yelp
I had been reading good reviews and seeing good food pics for this place for a while. Some of those included their pizza. I walked in, I wasn't greeted super warmly. Grantid, it was during Mardi Gras and I think they planned to close the next day or after so they didn't have many options to choose from. They had their king cake and I heard good things so I wanted to try a slice. The women behind the counter, who really didn't seem friendly she was more I think stressed out, said to try the cinnomon bun instead and that they taste the same. I was little bothered that they couldn't just let me try a slice or the king cake, but oh well. And cinnomon buns are not king cakes even though that is what alot of out of towners say. I actually did end up loving it though, for a cinnomon bun and not a king cake, it had a huge amount of icing on it and that bread was truley baked perfectly. I loved that bread. So, then we ordered some pizza and a sandwhich from the glass case. The lady didn't ask or explain what the toppings were since there wasn't a sign. I had to ask. Again, she didn't seem willing to help, just stressed out. And she gives me the slice and she gives me the sandwhich, tells me the cost and thats it. I didn't know where the napkins were or forks or anything. I had to find that on my own which was on the right of the back door when you exit to the open, grassy area where picnic tables are located. I sit down to take a bite out our food and its cold. Why didn't she mention that? Or off to heat it up? I just think we came at a very time.... But the bread on the pizza was very thick and actually really beautiful. I thought the toppings were nice and fresh too. But who serves a cold pizza? I didn't know it wasn't warm siting there. Anyway, the sandwhich had so much flour on it, we looked like we snorted a whole bunch of cocain covering our lips and chin. It was odd. I enjoyed sitting outside. There was a random drum circle playing music, so we had some nice tunes to go with our cold meal. Overall, I probably wont be back or at least wont be back when it is so close to Mardi Gras. It was not the best experience unfortunately.

Yelp
First time here. Seems like a great place. Coffee was great. I had a cheese biscuit and a baguette. Both were pretty good. Limited selection. Not much offered.

Lisa L.

Yelp
Service was fast and employees were really nice. Location is easy to get to. We had the olive bread, cheddar biscuit and chocolate chip cookie. Everything was very good but selection was limited and I was hoping for more of a choice.

Jode B.

Yelp
Jam-bam may be the best ham sandwich I have ever had. Simple- just fresh baguette, thin sliced ham, butter and brie, but damn that was delicious. The pizza here is fantastic as well.

Kira C.

Yelp
They had the softest doughnuts and breakfast Sammie's Went two days in a row. Also enjoyed the coffee

Josh W.

Yelp
Funky little corner bakery in mid-city. They have an everyday menu and a mishmash of sweet treats that seem to rotate. Everything is made in-house every morning so it can be a bit of a race to get there before they run out of the awesomeness. The coffee is on point, and unless you've been to France, I bet you've never had a baguette like this baguette. I know, I know, you're thinking "who goes out to a bakery to buy fresh baguettes to take home?"... I thought the same thing. Believe me on this one. You'll be glad you did. Recently they've been doing pizza. It leans on the floppy-New-York side of the spectrum and is a tip top pie. It's nice to see that the pizza gets that same French Baker attention-to-detail that the bread does.

Scott K.

Yelp
Full disclosure, I have a friend who works here, so you.could say I'm biased and I would be ok with that. Having said that, this place is awesome. At the beginning of the pandemic I was getting bread from here about once a week. And it was delicious. I also had the cookies, and also delicious. The most recent trip I've had there was for their (relatively) new pizza menu. Easily some of the best pizza in the city. Thin crust, big slices, great cheese and sauce, and good selection of toppings. I'm a pepperoni fan and theirs is fantastic. Go! Right now!!!

Yelp
Found this little bakery on Yelp while visiting New Orleans. Bought a nice box of Christmas cookies, beautiful baguette and an amazing cinnamon roll. Would definitely visit again.

Becca F.

Yelp
I live right down the street and was super excited about this newcomer. I'm only giving 3 stars because their baked goods are on point. I wanted to try the wares so I had a brussel sprout/cheese swirl bun and a chocolate chip cookie, both tasty, sure, but nothing to write home about. Sadly, I doubt I will return. This bakery is so out of place in the neighborhood. Yeah, sure, hipsters and basic basics will enjoy it but the real locals in the 'hood probably won't. $5 for iced coffee, $11 for a ham sandwich, $18 for a pumpkin pie is nuts. I mean, mad props to the owner/baker for doing what he loves but it just doesn't seem like a good fit for this stretch of Orleans Ave...at least not currently. But...times they are a'changing. It'll probably do well, considering. Le sigh.

Patrice B.

Yelp
The new location at 3201 Orleans Ave. is incredible! The baguettes are still the best this side of Paris. Now that they have the space there is a daily selection of breads, scones, cookies and pastries. There is now the space to sit and have my morning scone with a cappuccino and enjoy the start of the day. Extended hours now from 7-3 on Wednesday - Friday and 7-2 on Saturday and Sunday

Nicole K.

Yelp
Stopped in for some coffee and a cinnamon roll today. The latte I had and the cold brew my husband had were solid, and the cinnamon roll was one of the best baked goods I've had. Nice staff. They have pizza too, it smelled amazing.

Steven M.

Yelp
Is this a new business model? I seem to be running into it a lot lately. They put together a tiny menu. A few of the items are craveable but they are constantly out of them. I came three times for the jambon beurre baguette. They were out of it each time. This is in the morning. Oh well. Just my luck. I doubt I will ever try again

Yelp
I've been a few times and everything is fantastic. I had the turmeric cake and it was beautifully moist and delicious. Service is friendly as well. The hours are a bit weird and it's difficult to remember when they are actually open. The prices are bit above average, I would recommend having a few lower price point items on the menu to be more inclusive of the neighborhood. But otherwise great job!

Jessica W.

Yelp
I'm in the minority and maybe this business was off when I decided to patronize. First, it is unclear what is in stock at any given time. Even items pictured on Instagram the same day were not actually available. That is a tough sell for such a small menu. Second, some things did not work for me. I am talking to you Rosemary Sweet Potato Pie (tasted old) and Amaretto Cookies (tasted uncooked like I could actually taste the pinch of salt in its original form). Finally, I know things are tough in the food business, but some genuine engagement would have been well received. At the end of it all, the pizza was fine, but it will not bring me back. Hoped that it would've been and could've been a lot better.

Nick L.

Yelp
This is my local bakery. There are not many bakeries like it and this one is mine! Lol! You absolutely have to have the cinnamon rolls here. Please leave one for me though. The staff is very helpful and I have also had their egg sausage cheese muffins for breakfast. My partner loved their veggie sandwich. Mid-city y'all!

Sierra J.

Yelp
I have no pictures because I ate everything so fast, but I will probably be there everyday from now on!!! It is a super cute small cafe setting. I got a spinach and ham quiche , a honey butter biscuit, and a cafe mocha made with oat milk. I didn't get the guy who helped me name but he was a taller white guy with blond-ish hair. He was so so nice and helped me with my pastries and coffee!! It is only like 4 minute from my house and I now plan on going before work. I am dying to try to ham baguette. It is on the more expensive side but I would pay for this than Starbucks than any day!!! Please go to Mayhew!!

Robert V.

Yelp
Great local bakery. Worth supporting. I'm going to try their pizza next time.. I will definitely go back.

Madison O.

Yelp
So happy we stumbled in here Saturday morning. While I was looking for breakfast loaves and pastries they were cleared out before 11 am. However, I cannot complain about the pizza we then ate for breakfast. The Sicilian slices hit the spot perfectly. Mayhew's dough is flavorful perfectly balanced (not too dense but not to airy either). The sauce and topping were so fresh: perfect Saturday morning.

Robert T.

Yelp
Twice now I have come here and found hours posted on Yelp and Facebook are wrong, or they just don't observe them. Pastry is fine, but disregard for the customer is evidenced in the slack adherence to posted hours. And whoever heard of bakery opening at 9a...Panera nearby opens at 6:30a reliably. Sorry, I want the local guys to win, but try harder.

Marc B.

Yelp
Easy neighborhood stop-in for baked goods, little sweet treats and cravings, fresh bread, and espresso coffee. Go before 10am to get the bread - they sell out quick. This would get 5 stars but the large pizza they offer as a made to order is awful. The rest is great!

Gretchen N.

Yelp
Fresh baked baguette and the cheddar biscuit were delicious and soft, yet crispy. Didn't go in for the pre cooked margarita pizza by the slice, but after the smell I couldn't resist. No regrets. So crispy and flavorful. Will be returning!

Delaina S.

Yelp
Fantastic corner bakery with carefully thought out breads and pastries. I got a baguette and olive and cheese swirl sourdough loaf to go. However, I couldn't resist to try the olive swirl bread, and let's just say there was a quarter missing by the time I left. I also got their grilled cheese and a cappuccino to eat there. Full coffee menu is awesome, and the grilled cheese was spot on gooey with lovely thick sourdough. Kelly, the owner, said they change up some of the speciality breads like the olive loaf about every two weeks. Can't wait to visit again!

Larry L.

Yelp
We had a sandwich, coffee cake and a cookie. Very good and building was clean. Parking is an issue. Only one downfall, she brought me the cake but no fork. Nice and quaint place with limited seating. Nice folks.

Ian B.

Yelp
This place is delightful. You really can't go wrong getting anything from here, it's all delicious. Staff is super friendly as well. Can't say enough good things about this place.

Lynn H.

Yelp
This bakery has just opened, but it already has a very loyal clientele. The bread is incredible! The sandwiches, usually two or three specials a day, are scrumptious. The drinks are great and the staff are so friendly. Don't miss this fabulous new place!

Lesley E.

Yelp
Everything is great but the meat pies OMG they are fantastic ! The dough is Superb. The sweet stuff is delicious and he has the best king cakes hands down !

Ankita R.

Yelp
Neat little place. Ordered a couple slices of pizza, which were super fresh and tasty. Will be back.

Preethi M.

Yelp
Omg this bakery is amazing! Just moved to the area and been 4 times already! To die for pizza, cheesy garlic bread, cinnamon rolls, pies and more. An amazing place!

Q C.

Yelp
Neat 'corner' bakery. You order at the window, not inside. Have not tried the breads yet but the king cake was great. A little hard to find but worth the effort.

Impatient P.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious bakery! The breads, scones, pies, cookies and swirls are all fantastic. New location offers seating and a nice selection of coffees. Lovely addition to the neighborhood, and Kelly is a peach. Highly recommend.

Jacques F.

Yelp
I got a baguette and an unusual item, an olive and cheese "swirl". Prices are great. Before I get in the car I tear off the end of the baguette and I hear it...the crisp, rip sound that only damn good baguettes make. I start eating that end piece on the drive and think, "oh, snap, now I have another amazing artisan to try to get to every week!" I get home and my girls need a snack so I grab the "swirl". Think sour dough slathered with olive salad and cheese and rolled into a bun. My older rips and chews, "mmmmmm" is all she says, eyes closed. Her friend who works at Cochon tastes and says "this is GOOD" which is code for "I want more!" My little one says, "yeah!" I say "this is so gluteny, shazam!" Woof! The dog wants in on the joy hearing all the human sounds of pleasure so she catches a few chunks in mid-air. And I went by for a galette de roi which they didn't have time to make that day (these folks work really, really hard BTW) so I am going back Monday to fight the Desperate Housewives of Old Metairie for one of those. He makes it with pastry cream which is not the traditional recipe. Me thinks my family will have another bakery nirvana experience, wife included this time. Great work, Mayhew clan! All the best.
