27 Thrilling Thai Restaurants in New York City

"If you want to try the food of southern Thailand’s Malay Peninsula, check out MayRee. On a darkened block, the premises is similarly subdued in its lighting scheme, and jars of spirits infused with Thai flavorings line up on a bar at the rear. Roti nam keang, a pair of flaky flatbreads served with a bowl of peanutty chicken curry, is similar to the roti canai found in area’s Malaysian restaurants." - Robert Sietsema

MayRee

"Chef/Owner Orawan Sawangphol tells us a story of southern Thai cooking at Mayree, named for a character from the Thai folktale, Twelve Sisters. The space is cozy and charming, as is the compact menu. Spice levels are far from timid, and all of the dishes, including Isan specialties, showcase great personality. Park mor plates rice crepe dumplings with a sweet chopped peanut filling topped with coconut milk and fried garlic. Kua kling is a dry, southern-style roasted curry made with ground pork that really brings the heat and displays incredible flavors. After a fiery meal, refresh your palate with coconut ice cream served in a coconut shell. Sek Saraboon runs the serious cocktail program, while all of the creative sips are named for Mayree's sisters." - Michelin Inspector

REVIEW: Mitr and MayRee Are Two New Thai Restaurants in NYC - Eater NY

"MayRee opened in mid-September on the same block of First Street as the legendary Prune in the East Village. The owner and chef, Orawan Sawangphol, grew up in Phang Nga, a province on the west side of the Malay Peninsula in Southern Thailand, distinguished by its beaches and rocky islets. The restaurant’s name is in reference to a figure from a folktale called “Twelve Sisters”; she’s one of an ogress’s 12 daughters who’s both sweet and gentle. The menu focuses on the food of the peninsula, in common with Thai Nara, a Woodside restaurant that offers the cuisine of the region’s Muslim minority." - Robert Sietsema

This place took me right back to Thailand The food, cocktails, service and staff were top notch and SO GOOD. I dropped in randomly for dinner and was immediately seated. Sek was attentive and on top of my dairy allergy when it came to recommendations. The drinks were so unique, priced around $15 each and they have a happy hour. We are definitely coming back.

A hidden gem in the heart of the East Village! The service was prompt and attentive, with our food arriving quickly. We tried a variety of dishes, including the refreshing papaya salad, perfectly crispy fried mushrooms, and flavorful ground chicken with basil sauce. The Pad Thai was also a standout. Overall, it was a great dining experience. This spot is ideal for lunch or brunch with friends if you're craving Thai food and don't mind spending a little extra. Highly recommend!

Very good Thai food! I had the duck with pineapple and lychee and loved it. It wasn't too sweet and also a bit spicy, so just the right balance! It's very good value for money, too. Would recommend to go here if you're in the area and looking for some delicious Thai food 😋

Dive into the vibrant flavors of Southern Thailand right in the heart of the East Village! MayRee. This cozy and charming spot is my latest culinary gem, serving up authentic dishes that transport your taste buds to the streets of Thailand. My absolute favorites? The Branzino Pla Lui Suan—a perfect balance of tangy, spicy, and savory—and the sautéed vermicelli Pad Mee Kati, which is so flavorful with the lump crab meat. Mayree, a Michelin-recommended spot, is a must for Southern Thai cuisine. The Malée hibiscus cocktail and Morrakot with sake and coconut milk were fantastic. The Hed Tod mushrooms and Park Mor butterfly pea dumplings were standouts. Be sure to try the Pad Mee Kati with crab and the crispy Gai Tod Had Yai chicken!

The chicken wings were ridiculous. Wish this place was more accessible to me because I'd order them all the time. Duck curry was flavorful and a good balance of spicy and sweet. The crab fried rice and spring rolls were also delicious. Shame the bar seating wasn't the most comfortable, but my experience overall was a good one. Thanks for the food!

Best Thai restaurant in nyc. Flavor of curry is unique and portion is quite larger than expected. All their dishes had lots of flavors and can taste the fresh ingredients.
