14 Best Restaurants In Bellevue’s Bel-Red Neighborhood | Eater Seattle

"Open since 1996, Mayuri Indian Cuisine and its affiliated bakery and grocery stores have been integral to and indicative of the growth of the Eastside’s vibrant Desi population. Mayuri offers dishes from nearly the entire Indian subcontinent, from Kerala’s fiery dry-fried seafood and the gongura of Andhra Pradesh (various proteins, often goat, cooked in a sour sauce of red sorrel) to rich Mughlai gravies and sweet carrot halwa (a dessert pudding of gently cooked carrot, condensed milk, sugar, and cardamom). Mayuri’s ornate space sports a full bar as well, and is open for takeout and in-person lunch and dinner." - Brett Bankson

Google
Best place. If you are looking for authentic south indian food. No extra seasoning , no extra decorations . Pure and authentic dosas. Service is also good too. Girls and tamil guy are also decent and cooperative

Kurian OS

Google
This place is not the best. Food tastes okay, service is really bad. Washroom smells horrible. Tables are very packed. We ordered food and drinks and they did forgot the drink but they didn't forget to add to bill. Coconut chutney was really bad. Awful taste because of bad coconut. Avoid if you can !!

SNEHA ARORA

Google
Tried it for the first time and had such a bad experience. I ordered masala dosa and found a hair in it. So disappointing.

I have travelled extensively and tasted South Indian food numerous times specifically in India (Delhi), but “Mayuri Indian Cuisine” has lots of room for improvement. The taste of food needs to be improved particularly “Sambhar Vada”. Vada is usually burned or distasteful . Sambhar doesn’t tastes as a genuine but replacement of real sambhar. Tissue paper is placed just on unclean tables ( reflecting poor hygiene), At least tissue napkins can be places on some plates. Sharing the sambhar or coconut chatni, the concept is unacceptable , even while we come in family or grps. Each person must be provided sambhar or chatni separately . Overall NOT RECOMMENDED for a second visit. LOOKING FOR other south Indian food options in surrey and Vancouver. Cleanliness needs to be taken care of. Not appreciated at present conditions. Hope the staff and owner will look into the matter and work as per recommendation.

Pretty nice place. Chole bhathure, Mysore masala dosa and vada would be my recommendation. Budget friendly too but yet all those items I mentioned were really tasty.

Google
We have been patronising this place for many years now. Quality of food has been meticulously maintained. Their Chilli Bhajji is excellent. Dosas have been the best all along. Soft idli and crispy vada. Sambar had always been lip smacking.

Google
I come here cause my parents absolutely love it, specifically my mom :) That being said… I agree; it’s def one of the best dosa spots in Surrey (maybe even Vancouver) Wait times for dosa orders can be long, I wish they would bring out all food at once, instead of one plate at a time. However, it’s authentic af and tastes fantastic The staff is super accommodating and nice, as per usual, I would come again!

Google
Awesome food ... Wonderful owner. We drove an hour to get to this place and were not disappointed. Our dosas were fresh, crispy, and flavorful. Service is quick and efficient, but this is a small family owned restaurant so expect minimal interaction with wait staff and bare bones decor. The ownership is truly caring and keen to ensure that customers are happy. The owner's brother went from table to table, seeking feedback and providing assistance. Overall, a pleasant experience at great prices. PS - Ask that your dosa is not folded and is served as a long tube so it doesn't get moist and lose its crispiness.

Yelp
I was craving dosa, so upon recommendation from a colleague, we drove all the way to Surrey to fry this place. I ordered a spicy Dosa and my other half ordered a Poori (deep fried bread) and potato curry. We also wanted some appies, so we ordered a plate of vegetable fritters (pakoras). Veggie fritters = excellent. Lots of flavour and a very generous portion. Very affordable for the price, quality and quantity. The other two dishes were average. I expected them to be spicy and packed with more flavour. We weren't crazy about any of the condiments and side dishes. The ambience was very simple - some tables and chairs. Very affordable meals. We paid about $38 in total with tips. Service was great. Our servers were very friendly and helped answer our questions.

Yelp
Weekends are for indulging, so my friends and I headed to Mayuri Dosa for a delightful treat. We savored the crisp, golden dosas paired with aromatic chai, and it was an absolute delight. The perfect blend of flavors made it a memorable culinary experience. We had Mysore paneer masala dosa. Chef Krishna was nice too and very sweet guy

Yelp
We visited Mayuri after a gap of 3 months. The food quality & taste continues to be good. We had Plain Ghee Roast Dosa, Tomato & Sweet Corn Soups, French Fries & Veg Biryani . The Chutneys given with the Dosa were good & authentic but could have been a "shade spicier" . The Veg Biryani (as always at Mayuri) comes with Raita, Channa Masala & was nice & spicy . Only thing missing was a Papad. Mayuri like the other South Indian Veg restaurants in Mainland gives Raita with the Biryani which sadly NONE of the North Indian restaurants give . Service was good & Staff most pleasing. The only thing I wish was for the Weekend Thali to be also served " mid week" Otherwise a good enjoyable Telugu food restaurant.

Yelp
Omg i don't believe myself. I have even forgotten the number of times i have been here as its my go- to place and I didn't review it on yelp?? What? First let me tell you that i have been to many south indian food places(mostly dosa places) almost in all different directions of vancouver buT no-one makes "sambar"(south indian curry) as authentic and yummy like them. I have eaten everything on the menu since my visits from last 6 years. Sometimes i come here to eat 3 times a month. Best, soft idli and crunchy wada are the light snacks. Pakora is not my favourite thing but i have tried them once with tea on a rainy day so gogggoooodddd( we indians love "pakora" fried chickpea flour dumplings) on a rainy day. On the menu u can select from dosa's , uttapams and the main course as well. Rasam as a soup iS tangy. U can even customize a dosa even though u will have many options to choose from. Madras coffee is a must try. I will post more pics later but for now just check out wat i clicked from my last dinner there. Light n healthy. Vegetables dosa( simoline mixture stuffed with boiled veggies)

Yelp
Best South Indian food in Surrey! Went there for a quick snack last evening and was not dissapointed .. The onion Mysore masala dosa was delicious! The accompaniments : red spicy chutney, green normal chutney and sambar were tasty. The dahi vada did not have any flavour and will not be ordering it next time. The place is clean and the service is quick. Highly recommended for quick delicious food. Food: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Ambience: 3/5

Yelp
We had idli sambar, onion masala dosa and coffees. All good. Idlis were not the best but decent and we finished everything we ordered.

Jas ..

Yelp
One of my fav restaurants!! The food is so flavourful. I haven't had a bad experience here in my numerous visits. Highly recommend their dosas. The sambar is top notch.

Yelp
Best South Indian food in Surrey - great prices with consistently excellent taste; only downside is the waiting ...
google avatar

Amy T.

Yelp
The rassam here is very good! I love the weekend thali they serve. The dosa platter is also a great choice! Very very yummy vada and sambar!

Sunita B.

Yelp
Mayuri Dosa always reminds me of Dosa place back home . Always excellent service there's a bit waiting but but always good service
google avatar

Naved H.

Yelp
I was excellent family dinner, the whole family enjoyed their dishes . The place was busy on the weekend , its first come first served, so there a waiting time but worth it. Once you are seated the service is quick, each dish was freshly cooked. They are very tasteful . The dishes are good size, difficult to finish. We very happy with the staff , they serve with smile and always will to help. We look forward to another dinner soon.

Yelp
OK... I am not as learned with my curry as I wish I were (indian is another favourite food of mine!) but my brown friend vouches for this place, citing 5 different friends she's taken here. The food is southern indian... the service is friendly.... there's wifi.... if I was in the area, I'd definitely hit this place up again for their dosas (huge and great value).... plus they give a cpl different hot sauces to test out (the white one is handle-able... the other two were too spicy for me) it's in a random warehouse-y type area, but don't be put off... hit this place up!
google avatar

Alex K.

Yelp
Had the Mysore onion masala dosa with extra spice. I must say they executed it pretty well. Nice raw green chilies for spice in lieu of a sauce made the dosa enjoyable. Coconut sauce had a kick, ginger was equally good. can't say anything bad with the place. Would come again.

Phuong N.

Yelp
Good food and very fast service. Well made food. I definitely recommend their dosas. Their Rasam soup is good too. Almost like a spicy Thai soup, South Indian style.

Yelp
On my family visit to Surrey, I tried this place for idli & dosa. Their food was scrumptious and chutneys were so fresh. Service was very quick for weekday lunch.
google avatar

Arsh R.

Yelp
My go to place for dosas!! No other place in the lower mainland has Sambhar as good as them. My favourites are palak paneer and Mysore dosa.

Yelp
A small cozy authentic yummy food hub with great service staff is very pleasant ... must try once to know the taste .. been going there fir almost 15 years taste is still original and amazing , lots of variety to choose from .. must try .

Yelp
5 star because every visit was worth trying any new dish. It is high quality, fresh and tasty. Thats what we want from a restaurant. Sometimes there is wait to get a table mostly Saturday sunday evenings. Today I tried pav bhaji dosa and mysori cheese dosa.

Yelp
The best veggi restaurant in B.C Surrey for south indian. Foood this is my second time here its amazing food last time we had ordered Veggie Biriyani and south indian poori platter food was delecious.... Thats y we are back again.....

Yelp
1. Rats in the parking lot 2. We ordered the Dahi vada to share. The vadas were so hard that it needed stabilization with 2 forks before it could be cut into. It was dry despite being served with yoghurt - like vadas get if they are 2 or more days old. We requested our server to take it back as we could not eat it. After 10 minutes, another waitress/manager brought out the same plate with the vada we had tasted and a new one (also hard) on top of it, put it on our table and walked away without another word. Either they do not know how to make vadas, or they are serving really old and stale food. 3. Pav bhaji dosa- was more like dosa with canned tomato paste spread on it. 4. Customer service- see #2. We paid for the whole meal, and didn't eat much of it. Not a word of apology. We are visitors to Surrey from the US and were looking forward to "amazing Indian food" in Surrey. Well- you will not find it at Mayuri. There are excellent Indian restaurant options less than a mile away at Payal Plaza. The competition in that area probably keeps the quality high.
google avatar

Hari K.

Yelp
Very oily food. Tired the dosa, choke poor and idli 65. None of it was good. There are way better south Indian places in surrey

Manbir N.

Yelp
Love the ambience, kind staff, delicious food. My favourite dish: pav bhaji dossa. Don't order their soups though, they taste bad.

Ravi V.

Yelp
Good luck if you have more than 5. Seating strategy is horrible. They would try to memorize the order and come back after few mins to repeat the wrong items. So be prepared to order again. Appetizers arrive at the end. Bcoz.. that is how it is. Stuff that we didn't order shows up. Used to like this place. Now irritated with the service. So long for a while..
google avatar

Somasekhar T.

Yelp
Best place for South Indian Food. You won't be disappointed. My go to place for Dosa nd South Indian Breakfast. Love their Chutneys.

Yelp
For a small establishment in Surrey I have to say that the atmosphere matches the Indian theme. Pictures of peacocks, various Hindu gods and women adorn the walls. Coming into the restaurant you are greeted and guided to your seat by the host (so far so good right?) getting settled and ordering food. Appetizers of pani poori and chaat arrive. Finally followed by the beverages we ordered when we were seated. This is already going downhill. Can you see the trend? I'm really rooting for the Dhosa to be this establishments saving grace, how wrong I was. The Dhosa came, and traditionally, Dhosa is supposed to be wrapped up like a long burrito. The Dhosa looked like burnt triangles (gravity was not working on my side here) the Dhosa filling was sitting on the bottom where the angles meet, so flipping the Dhosa to get to the filling was both messy and a hassle (by this time time it's a bitch to eat). The filling was the same amount you'd give a baby, microscopic. Overall experience, you're better off spending the money and going to a nicer place in Vancouver. Or just going downtown. Don't do it! Spare yourself the trauma and agony.

Yelp
Hands down the best South Indian food you can get in the GVRD!! I've actually had the real thing in South Indian and these guys hit it out of the park every time! The place isn't much to look at and could definitely use a major decor upgrade but this is one of those places you go for the food and not for the atmosphere or the decor! The furniture is dated and the painting don't really have a theme that keeps inline with South India. The service is average at the most, the staff is friendly. Fortunately, the food is the saving grace of this place and my compliments to the cooks in the back! They have the freshest and proper dosa's around. The "coconut chutney" is epic. The dosa's are always crisp, freshly made and served hot! Depending on your taste, you should get your own style of Dosa! My personal favorite is the rava onion paneer masala dosa!! It's delicious!! I've been eating here for over 10 years and love love love this place! Also, I've tried their competition (other dosa's houses) around Vancouver and found them to be the clear cut winner. I think they stick close to the traditional recipes for dosa's and serve it fresh. I think you can't really say, this is the best dosa place around until you've been to a few of them. I would encourage people to go to other dosa restaurants only to see how great the food is here!

Aanya U.

Yelp
The most delicious South Indian food to serve as a great pick me up on a cold, rainy day. Started with perfectly made fresh masala chai and madras coffee. The eggplant was one of the best dishes I have ever tasted at an Indian restaurant! If you're here, try the rava onion masala dosa - absolutely delicious!
google avatar

Haya H.

Yelp
Mayuri has been added to our roster of regular dinner out restaurants. My family and I, love a good dosa and thali. We've even trapaised the length of India sampling thalis from different states. This is one of the best South Indian meals we've had. The rasam was delicious. The idlis were soft and fluffy. The dosa was exceptional, especially the filling which can be quite generic at other places. Despite being very busy the service was fast. They'll be seeing us again soon
google avatar

Suri I.

Yelp
Good restaurant for authentic South Indian dosa place. Apart from dosa they have other dishes which is pretty awesome. Try veg dum biriyani. It's awesome. Definitely a place to visit to have delicious food. It's affordable as well. Just improve the ambience a bit and its will be 5 star for sure.

Yelp
Food was really tasty, but everything else was terrible. Ordered take out. I felt the woman was racist and rude (because we weren't Indian and didn't know the different between south and north Indian food) even after I apologized. They overcharged by $2.00 from menu price, and charged an extra $2.50 for ONE chapati. A side of plain rice was $5. It seemed she made up prices as she went along. Unfortunate because the food was good but I won't go back.

C M.

Yelp
My first time having a dosa actually. Didn't know what we where doing but it was pretty good.
google avatar

Kim A.

Yelp
Fantastic dosas for the most part, prices are a bit higher than some other dosa places in town. Had the rava masala dosa and it's a must-try for those who want something extra crispy. The sambar was slightly too salty and paneer masala dosa needs work - like another review mentioned, the paneer was just a bunch of raw shreds and totally bland and tasteless compared to the rest of the dish. They also don't serve mint chutney like some other places do, but other than these small details, the food is solid. Service was ok - had to flag them down a couple of times, as they were so busy.
google avatar

Shani M.

Yelp
Our family loves this restaurant due to the unique food choice and service. Even though the foods may seem similar but each dish has a specialty which separates it from other dishes on the menu. The service is extremely fast and the owner is quite a friendly person. He knows our choices by heart! The only potential downside depends on the waiters. Some are good, some not so much. But this is not that big of a deal since they make their rounds when necessary and are pleasant enough. Just expect to remind them for something or the other. The decor is great, quite Indian and bring a calm presence throughout the restaurant. Overall, it is a place to try at least once.
google avatar

Kevin T.

Yelp
Paneer Masala Dosa. Frickin huge! The dosa was filled with lots of cheese and potato, and the crepe wrap was light and nicely golden brown. The red sauce is a nice spicy ginger sauce. The white was kind of bland, not really sure what it was. The curry sauce was really good with the dosa. Highly recommend. This was a super filling lunch... like food coma at work :/

Gaurav S.

Yelp
The best South Indian restaurant in Lower mainland. I go almost twice a week. Try their rava dosa and thali on weekends. Every item is really good. Manager and the staff is also very friendly. Gaurav

Yelp
This is the place to go when you are in the mood for, or want to try, high quality authentic south Indian food. These guys are amazingly friendly, the place is clean and the food is fresh and fast. We have visited a handful of times (crossing the bridge into Surrey to satisfy the craving) and every time the food is perfect. if you don't know what to get, try the Mayuri South Indian Dosa Platter and sample a variety. Wish I were going tonight...

Ish G.

Yelp
I went to this restaurant today with my kids and wife. I had terrible experience. No customer service. Food only Dosas and Dosas only nothing else. And they are all the same even they have different names. Nothing for kids. Menu has French fries but they were not available at 6pm. The waiter said they are finished. I would never go back. I can have cheaper dinner at The Keg or Cactus and 100 times better food. If you want Indian food please try different restaurants.
google avatar

Navamani G.

Yelp
After reading people's reviews. I tried this restaurant been grow up with eating South Indian food. I was very disappointed with fake food. It's so not southindian tast.who ever enjoying than place do not mistake its South Indian food because it's something else.not spoil South Indian tradition food taste by calling your self authentic South Indian restaurant.if you really want south Indian food do not eat there.faking South Indian food name.

Sarina F.

Yelp
Good food, especially the manchurian, but definitely not worth the money. If you're a first time go-er, I would recommend it as it wasn't entirely bad but I would not recommend a second visit.
google avatar

Darpan S.

Yelp
It's great. Dont go by the looks. One of the best south Indian food I've had in India. Best dosas in town. Good curd rice. I go there every time I crave dosas.

Re M.

Yelp
Worst service... Went with a close family member visiting us from India.. Felt ashamed. The staff r only focused on welcoming new customers.. Once customer is in.....they r in hands of no man's land... Repeat orders take hell lot of time. To get a bowl of sambhar.. Takes 20 minutes... By the the time food comes on the table the charm of eating is gone.. Highly NOT recommend Good luck to you if you go.

Aman V.

Yelp
Good South Indian vegetarian restaurant. The only thing they could work upon is the ambience.

Gulzar O.

Yelp
Horrible experience, this was probably our 100th visit to Mayuri, We were greeted by a girl who asked us to sit in middle row but we were 4 adults and 2 kids, we requested for the side table which seated 8 and we were 6 in total which the waitress was ok with, after we already were seated we had a Manager Name Reddy rudely asked us to move to a table of 6 which was in middle AGAIN, we requested again we have kids 2 and 3 year old but he was forcing us to move still and was rude and abrupt and said "YOU CAN'T SIT HERE", even though they had couple empty tables, such a shame they serve decent food and customer service had never been a problem before. We left the place without eating. Ownership should not forget customer service is key to hospitality, it blows my mind how people like Mr Reddy are Managers in hospitality business, Mr Reddy try collections etc. for profession.

Sowmya T.

Yelp
We searched everywhere in Vancouver but this is the best Andhra food we had so far. Eggplant curry and biryani are amazing. This along with the service which was top notch made our experience very pleasant. We will definitely return to this restaurant next time we are in Vancouver.

Pav J.

Yelp
Ripoff.....No doubt one of the best places for south Indian food. I have been a long time returning customer. But recently I was shocked to know that they raised price of most of the items by $3 each. Ripoff. Chana Bhatura-$8.99 and Rava onion paneer masala dosa for $11.99. Not going back again.Trying to cash on the popularity......You are not a fine dining place for God's sake. Upgrade your place and ambiance and then ask for premium prices.

N K.

Yelp
It's a great place for amazing dosas! I always get the paneer masala dosa, it's my favourite. I wouldn't really get the appetizers or deserts

coby p.

Yelp
There is plenty of Northern Indian restaurants in Abbotsford, but this is the first South Indian one that I am aware of! The food was delicious and the service was great. Nice crispy dosas with tasty potato curry inside. The ginger chutney was especially good. Plus complimentary chai at the end! Will definitely be back. The location is one of those places that seems to be a revolving door of new restaurants, but hopefully this one sticks around.

Preeti H.

Yelp
This place deserves many more reviews and stars! I was told Surrey's Indian food scene is good, so decided to try this place. Simply loved it!! I haven't had better idli, dosay and vaday in a very long time now. Even the chutney and sambhar were quite nice. They apparently have south Indian staff and that seems to make the difference. A must try place if you are craving south Indian food.
