Mazza

First time experiencing Mazza - SLC. The service, food and atmosphere are amazing. We started with stuffed grape leaves. They were exceptional and paired very well with our Lebanese wine. Our Waitress gave us good selection. Then we had the lamb and vegetable kabobs and the baked beef and potatoes. For both dishes, the meat was flavorful and tender. We will be going back. No other place in Utah has such unique wine selection.

Over all, food was decent, service was solid, and the layout/atmosphere could be improved upon. Dishes were generously portioned and filling. The rice was a little dry and the lamb was a bit chewy. All of the sauces and dips (hummus, tatziki, tahini, etc) were fresh and flavorful. There’s a long booth along the wall with multiple tables projecting out such that half of each table sits in the same, long booth and the other half is in chairs facing them. Our table of four was squeezed in uncomfortably close between two neighboring tables such that the two booth-sitters were trapped in. They would’ve had to climb over strangers or we would’ve had to awkwardly move the entire table in order to let them out had one of our neighboring tables not emptied out first.

LOVE, LOVE LOVE THIS PLACE!!! Mazza is a cute little restaurant with amazing food and people. They quite a few options and were able to accommodate gluten and dairy restrictions without comprising on flavor. This will be a favorite date night spot for sure.

This was our first time dining In. We’ve gotten takeout before but wanted to sit down and enjoy the restaurant. The atmosphere is intimate and feels like you’ve traveled to somewhere in Europe. The host and servers are all very nice and attentive. We shared the hummus with lamb and hot pita bread. Lamb was seasoned perfectly hummus was very creamy pine nuts gave it a very nice touch to bring the flavors together. My wife got the special Sheik Al Mahshi I had a couple of bites great flavors nice sauce really was something special! I got the Lamb shank with rice 🤤 the serving size is amazing! Great piece of meat that didn’t need the knife it came with extremely tender with a great sauce. I picked the bone clean. Ali came by and told me “The best part is the marrow inside go ahead and give the bone some good taps on the plate dont worry you won’t break the plate” Ali Made me feel like I was at home eating moms cooking. Thank you for taking the time to speak to us and the great dinner we will be back to dine in again!

Not bad food. Most of the lamb is certified halal. Just check with the staff, they can verify. They were all nice and took care of everything quickly. The fries and lentil & spinach soup were good. The lamb & spinach signature dish was great! The lamb was tender with a mild flavor and the pine nuts and almonds added the perfect crunch to the meal. The lamb & rice dolaa was not the best but it was a good mix of flavor. It is a really small location so it is loud and crowded. Worth a try if you are in the area!

Great little restaurant with fun atmosphere. The food was incredible and they have huge portions so be sure to come hungry. We stopped by on a Monday night for dinner and were able to be sat immediately. We had the Pita & Hummus, Lamb & Rice Dolaa and Chicken & Potatoes Mutabbak. If you’re looking for a punch of flavors try the Mutabbak. If you’re looking for a beautifully savory dish try the Dolaa. You wont regret it.

An absolute gem. I always order the baba gahanoush and the fries (their fry sauce/ aioli is the best I’ve ever had - if only they’d share the recipe!), but everything on the menu is fantastic. The staff is friendly and professional; the ambiance is beautiful and cozy; the patio in the summer is a delight.

The food was amazing. We had the pita, loobia, muhammara, and lamb with hummus for the appetizer sampler. For the entree the baked kafta and potatoes was excellent and perfectly cooked. There is also a nice small outside patio to sit on.

We went here to celebrate an anniversary the food, the service ambience completely a great experience. Our waitress was phenomenal and the executive chef or manager not sure what he was came out and checked on us and personally handed us. Our drinks. Will come there again.

Stopped in on a Thursday close to opening and was able to snag a table without a reservation. The interior is small though and a few tables were reserved for reservations so definitely better to be safe than sorry! Service was amazing and friendly and went above and beyond for me. Fantastic in every way. Now, food was incredible. The trio platter was perfect for me to try multiple things. My favorite had to have been the baba ganooj but all 3 were delicious. My only criticism is that the pita was okay, didn't seem homemade but something out of a package. For entree, I got the chicken and potato's mutabbak and it was amazing. Spices were perfect and potato's were perfectly cooked, I could eat this entree by the bucket. I definitely hope to return when I'm back in the area!

Great food and the service was phenomenal! They would suggest entrees and make sure we were always stocked with fresh hot pita bread!

Everything was fantastic. Great service and the quality is exceptional. We will definitely be back.

I'm grateful that my friend Randy S. alerted me to the list of places on the 2024 James Beard Nominations. Congratulations Ali Sabbah for being one of the Semifinalists for Best Chef in the Mountain Region! With this announcement yesterday, I wanted to grab early dinner before the crowds came and before prices increased. In a quick search on Yelp, this restaurant was listed as $$ but having dined in today, I think it should be more accurately captured as $$$. Other Yelp reviews also stated that they thought it was pricey here. I was lucky to have found street parking after work. I managed to squeeze into a table for one without a reservation and sat right in front of the host stand. Yeah, a little tight in this small dining room but that's not a big deal for me. Especially since I had to quick bite and run to an evening appointment. I ordered the Small Plate Combo with three items. The Baba Gannoj with warm soft pita was exactly what I expected, creamy with a drizzle of luscious olive oil. The two stuffed grape leaves were flavorful and warm. The small dish of Potatoes Harra was fork-tender and quite tasty. This small plate combo came with their refreshing yogurt dipping sauce. I also ordered the lamb kebab. I think it had about 5 small cubes of lamb, cooked medium, and seasoned well. I enjoyed this tender morsel, wasn't gamey at all. Can't exactly have Middle Eastern cuisine without enjoying dessert. I ordered two Baklawa Fingers to go and it came with a drizzle of what tasted like delicate rose water. Kind of small, not too sweet, but I know it was meant to saver in small bites :) While I normally do a good job at checking the itemized bill, I needed to be somewhere so I swiped my card in their portable credit card machine and dashed out the door without a receipt. You may want to handle that differently LOL

The four of us enjoyed a lovely dinner at Mazza. It was a Friday night and we didn't have a reservation, so it was a bit of a wait, but it was worth it. We split a few appetizers - the Baba Ganooj & Pita and the Arayes, which was a pita stuffed with spiced ground meat. The Arayes was my favorite - I would get it again! For the entrees, we got the Vegetable Kebabs and Chicken & Potatoes Mutabbak. I was really excited to try the Mutabbak as I'd never seen it on a menu before. It was rice, chicken, potatoes, and onion, served with a tamarind sauce. I was expecting the sauce to be sweeter than it was, but it was actually pretty salty. I still really enjoyed all of the flavors of the dish and am really glad I got to try it!

The food here is truly delicious! I have been dying to go back after tasting such amazing flavors during my first visit. Don't skip the fries! The ambiance was warm and welcoming :) This is a very small and intimate restaurant, make sure you have reservations to avoid long waits.

Love the food service and intimate seating. They have a wide variety of vegetarian dishes and a plethora of lamb dishes in true Mediterranean tradition. Sauces and share plates are a great way to share with your friends or family. Parking is limited, but worth the efforts.

This is the cutest place ever. Very quaint interior but don't let that fool you, the food is AMAZING. Everything was so flavorful. I don't think there was a single thing I didn't like. Highly recommend. We got there as soon as it opened so we had no time getting seated.

This middle eastern restaurant in the heart of Sugar House is a gem! It is a cozy small restaurant with outdoor seating in the summer. The menu has a lot of variety, and it is vegetarian friendly. The taste is amazing! The service is awesome as well. Just a great family run restaurant. Some things to know: minimal street parking, reservations are HIGHLY recommended, and come hungry.

One of my favorite restaurants in SLC! We got to talk to the owner who is the sweetest man. We enjoyed the small and beautiful space. The food was wonderful and reminded me of the food I used to get in Dearborn, MI so it tasted like home! I can't wait to go again and again for every special occasion in my life.

Night two of our three-night visit to Salt Lake City was to Mazza's restaurant. We were most excited to dine here since the chef was selected as a finalist for the James Beards Best Chef Mountain region. We will be at the awards program in Chicago and will cheer for Ali Sabbah, the owner of Mazza for the past 23 years. Mazza, like Oquirrh the night before, has an intimate dining room. But unlike Oquirrh, it has a extensive menu of incredible Lebanese and Middle Eastern delicacies. If you care about what you eat, you should know Mazza uses all-natural, vegetarian-fed and mostly locally sourced chicken, beef and lamb. What you notice about intimate restaurants is the quality of their wait staff. Our server, Christina, was uber friendly and excited to greet us and make our meals spectacular. But the best part was when the chef came out and started working the tables. Ali is super proud of his restaurant and his legacy. He oozes warmth and pride. He gave us his recommendations on what to order and checked in on us several times to get our reaction to what we just finished. This quote really sums up Ali: "I don't call myself a chef. I'm just a cook. A chef, to me, is someone who has attended culinary school and has a degree." This is the restaurant to come to if you have a big appetite. The house specialties are large servings. No cocktails, but a large selection of Mediterranean beer and wine. We started with Labneh, which is a Lebanese thick strained yogurt drizzled with olive oil, and the twice-fried House Fries with aioli sauce. Both were super delicious. Ali suggested our entrees, the Chicken & Potatoes Mutabbak and the Lamb & Spinach. Mutabbak consists of slices of fried potatoes arranged around moist, tender chicken breast over moist basmati rice, drizzled with a tangy, sweet tamarind sauce. The lamb features chopped spinach and onions, garnished with toasted pine nuts and almonds, served over basmati rice. Incredible flavor and authenticity. For dessert, Ali suggested Samantha's Special, which is a cream and rice flour pudding, cooked with orange liqueur, topped with fig compote and garnished with pistachios. Wow! Wow! Mazza is an incredible dining experience, even if you've never tried Middle Eastern cuisine. The service, ambiance and amazing food are worthy of your visit. And a check for only $116 before tip was amazing!

I'm Lebanese so I have a high bar for actually going out for Lebanese food but Mazza does a great job. Their pita is amazing (probably has to be one of the best in the state) and the service is super friendly. I look forward to visiting again!

New favorite date night!! The food here is truly authentic and absolutely delicious; you have to try the lamb shank and the chicken and potatoes! They have a fine selection of Lebanese wines as well. Chef Ali came around for conversation and gave some well earned recommendations. Take my advice and make a reservation ahead of time because it is a small, quaint, and warm environment. Extremely friendly staff, including our awesome waitress Alyssa who made recommendations as well. Being that my name is Samantha, this was the dessert selection and wow, 12/10!

The best meal we have had in a while!! A cute little restaurant that feels very intimate. Stellar staff who were friendly and attentive. We came in an hour before close on a Wednesday night and were able to get seated no problem, but would probably recommend a reservation to be safe. We ordered the baba gannooj which was luxurious!! We've never had it before, but now feel like it has been missing all of our lives! We also ordered the lamb & spinach and the chicken & potatoes muttabak, which we both thoroughly enjoyed! We will be back!

Mazza has the best Middle Eastern food in Salt Lake. Always great service and a lovely and comfortable atmosphere. My favorite is the Mousakhan Wrap. Crispy pastry outside with a spiced chicken filling and it's served with a Crisp garlicky salad. They compliment each other perfectly and I usually have leftovers for tomorrows lunch.

Mazza serves Middle Eastern fare. They have lots of shareable appetizers like naan and falafel. We got Mazza Baked Kafta with Potaoes and Rice as well as Chicken & Potates Mutabbak. They were identical except for the meat. The sauce was delicious but the beef was on the spicy side and tasted strange. Definitely get the chicken.

Had the good fortune of being able to take in a lovely meal at Mazza while in SLC in early June. The service was solid. Our service knew her stuff and made some exceptional recommendations for both food and wine. There were a number of wines that were completely foreign to us and her matching of the vino and our palates was perfecto. We had a lovely table outside and it's situated in a vibrant almost neighborhood area which made for a fun vibe. Now the food, we'll, you gotta go. It was all delightful from the baba ganoush to the lamb shank. The lamb shank is truly delectable. Fit for royalty yall. Go getchasum. Finally the owner is on it and it shows. He's meeting patrons, checking satisfaction, answering inquiries...he's on it like polyester on a sweaty salesman. His opus is truly remarkable. Enjoy!!

I cannot say enough about Mazza! The food is incredible and all the healthy ingredients make me feel like I'm doing a huge favor to my body every time I eat there. And then they're the french fries and accompanying aoili... . A guilty indulgent absolutely worth every delicious calorie. If you haven't tried them they're the best in the valley -- if not the region. And being a small, local business, you also get feel good points every time you support this wonderful place.

I can't say enough about Mazza. Excellent mediterranean food in an intimate setting. Lots of great vegan/vegetarian options. Healthy and generous portions. Highly, highly recommend!

Small little place in a cute neighborhood in SLC. The food was delicious and I could eat the hummus with a spoon.

Literally my favorite restaurant in all of SLC! It's the most reliably delicious place I've ever eaten. Have been going for years and it never disappoints, for many reasons -- food, service, and vibes. Definitely where I go when I need a comfort meal. If I could eat their falafel sandwich everyday for the rest of my life, I'd be the happiest gal on the planet.

My favorite restaurant of all time. We were gifted a dinner here after getting engaged and the experience was so special. The ambiance is so intimate and warm and every experience is just as, if not more magical each time. Their baba gannooj is the best.

The food we ordered was delicious- I even ordered a second entree to go (try the chicken and potatoes mutabbak!). My main issue here is with the overall experience. Mazza only takes reservations by phone (nothing online), but unfortunately it's very tough to get them on the phone. My friend and I tried calling multiple times to no avail, and we overheard another group walking in that expressed the same frustration. They also need to consider moving to a larger, more accommodating location similar to what they have at 9th and 9th. This location is extremely cramped inside with no room to wait, though thankfully they are in the adorable 15th and 15th area so you can pop into the King's English bookshop (if it's open). The table we were sat at had fairly awkward seating- it was a corner table where you had to sit diagonal to each other as opposed to across from each other. Not the end of the world, just a little more uncomfortable when trying to have a conversation than usual. If the menu prices were lower and more reminiscent of a typical family-owned or hole in the wall restaurant, then sure, I could look past not being able to afford a larger space or more staff to handle the phone. But that's not the case here- entrees are anywhere from $20-30.

Holy cow or is it Halal? Any which way you dice it this place is simply awesome and the best Lebanese/Mediterranean around. The chicken and potatoes with rice sounds like too much starch but it is fantastic. Best falafel in town too! Service is friendly and helpful. The ambiance is charming.

Amazing. It's still as great as it's always been. Great service and the most incredible food at very fair prices. I'll never visit SLC without a meal here.

This place feels like you walked into your auntie's house and everybody is happy to see you! Excellent food, curated service, humor, warmth, history, community involvement, art, attention, you feel you are in some restaurant heaven and want to linger and enjoy! Well, well, well worth many visits!!

This restaurant is a 10/10. The staff is incredibly kind and genuine happy to welcome you in. The food was delicious and everything we ordered was good. Best baklava ever.

This was our first time eating at Mazza. In order to be fair with this review, I acknowledge I have not tried many Middle Eastern restaurants. My best friend loves this restaurant, and that's worth mentioning. Service was good, I appreciated the recommendations. There are many food options that for all, including vegan and vegetarian. It's small, so reservations are a must. I would like to go back and try their Lebanese wines.

The food and service were nothing short of excellent! Everyone was very attentive and even the owner stopped by to check on us. This place is small and intimate and so enjoyable. Great wine and beer selection too! Get a reservation for sure!

Delicious food, good service - small restaurant and it was busy so the noise level would get loud at times but it was a friendly atmosphere.

What a delightful experience! We enjoyed the most delicious foods and with such a cheerful staff of employees. On our next trip to Salt Lake City we will order these menu items again. Roasted potatoes, hummus with pita, chicken and meat kababs over rice, and salad. Thank you for your hospitality and quick service!

I admittedly wanted to like this place going in. My gf spoke highly of it. Small business too. Some things were definitely good, starting with the service. We ordered on the phone for pickup and arrived about 20 minutes later, when they said the food would be ready. They had everything all set to go and brought it out to the car. Nice people. I got the small plate combination with three sides. The Red Lentil & Roasted Tomato Soup was good. I'd get that again. Nothing at all wrong with the Hummus and Pita. I'd eat that pita all day, including by itself. I actually had some by itself. No hummus needed. Unfortunately, I can't say the Fattoosh was doing it for me. There was an off flavor with the dressing and it was thoroughly covering the whole salad so that was the dominant flavor with each bite. I'm guessing it was the pomegranate molasses because I love lemon juice and olive oil. The chicken shawarma sandwich my gf got looked pretty good and she seemed happy. I'd say I like Mazza overall. It just wasn't one of my favorite meals among all the other restaurants visited on our long weekend in SLC.

I used to go to the Mazza on 9th and 9th but it closed during COVID. I was so happily surprised to find out this location at 15th and 15th is still open. They have a very small interior space, so they can accommodate large groups of people. They have a very nice patio that has about four tables outside. The waitress was very pleasant, and service was very fast. I had the chicken Musakhan wrap and it came with a large salad. I really enjoyed my food and the portions are excellent. I wanted to have a dessert, but I was too full. I had enough food left over to get a takeout box. I highly recommend this place for Middle Eastern food. Do keep in mind that parking is really limited at 15th and 15th, so you might have to drive around a bit to find a place to park. Truly the best Middle Eastern food I e had since leaving New York!

Service was amazing (Tina is the best!). The food was delicious - the hummus with lamb was super flavorful and both the baklavas were delicious! The baklava fingers are made with cashews which was something I've never had before and enjoyed.

We are from Portland and in SLC visiting family. After seeing the chef be nominated for a James Beard Best Chef award I wanted to try this place, we were not disappointed. We got reservations, which I recommended because the restaurant is small. I highly recommended sampler, we had babaganoush, hummus, and tabbouleh. All we very good. We also got the fries, which were delicious. I ordered the chicken and potatoes, which was good. Another person at our table had the spinach and lamb, that was the real winner. The service was excellent, our server was very accommodating to the children at our table and gave an excellent service one suggestion. The chef came out and asked us how everything was and asked us about restaurants in Portland. It's been awhile since I have had a chef come talk to a table, I can see why he is nominated. The restraint can be a little loud when full, because how small it is. But we didn't mind because we had kids. Bottom line, go here for great service and excellent food!

I should preface that the food was very good, but the actual experience was just okay. We first were seated inside and we were all packed into the restaurant. We couldn't hear each other talk and I didn't feel comfortable sitting elbow to elbow with a complete stranger and no masks (because we are eating). Because we couldn't hear each other, we moved out to the patio which was nice for about 5 minutes until it got dark and they brought out our food and we couldn't see what we were eating. There are no lights outside. It was a little bizarre to be honest. But the waitress Joyce was fabulous and super super nice, and the food was delicious. I didn't get a picture of our main course meals because it was pitch black but i got the chicken kebabs and they were soooo yummy. Really good fries too.

This is hands down our favorite middle eastern restaurant. Look forward to very visit and without fail are delighted. Have sampled pretty much the entire menu, flavors are always on point; fresh, bright, distinct and potent. Only down side is they lost their large restaurant in the vaunted 9th & 9th location, and the 15th &15th spot is much smaller, so it's not as easy to stop in. But the intimate nature of this location makes it an even more special and personal experience. Wish I could give more then 5 stars.

Whenever I'm feeling down or when I'm celebrating, I will pick up the phone and call-in an order of their Chicken Musakhan Wrap. It's always prepared perfectly: the right amount of spices, cooked nicely, and the side salad is never anything but fresh and crisp. Also, their app fries are bad news (because I can't have enough!). Yum all the way!

In town for the weekend and did a quick search for "must try" restaurants in SLC, and I'm so glad it pointed us toward Mazza! The inside is very cozy, and the wait staff was so friendly and helpful. Mazza is located on a quiet yet cute street with a few other restaurants. We put our name in for a table for 2 around 6:45 and they took our name and cell phone with an estimated wait time of 35 minutes. That gave us just enough time to pop into Casot for a glass of wine. here's the breakdown of our order - a bottle of lebanese red - bold flavor that paired great with the food and very affordably priced! - small plate combo: 1. baba ganooj - smooth yet fluffy, scooping up a big pile on the pita was the perfect bite (and the pita was INCREDIBLE) 2. lamb meatballs - came with two in a red sauce that had a lovely spice blend, so tender and could have eaten 10 more 3. potatoes harra - who dosen't love a roasted potato? also fyi if you normally don't like cilantro, my partner had no issues with it so still worth ordering!! - chicken and potatos mutabbak - even though it was white meat it was so flavorful and tender. we love a potato in any form and these were no exception, plus the sauce had a nice zip to it that was savory and tangy - mazza's lamb shank - this is THE ONE. Not exaggerating when I say this was the best lamb I've ever had. It was fall off the bone tender, and came with a large helping of rice and a side salad which was nice to add some crunch to the dish. I just finished my leftovers for breakfast so don't worry if you don't finish it all! we wanted to order dessert but could hardly move by the end of the meal. whether you live here or are just in town visiting, Mazza is a must!

Where's the MEAT! I paid $28 for lamb and spinach but what I got was a bunch of rice :( It was basically one scoop of entree in the middle of 5 scoops of rice. I feel cheated - rice is cheap and I was charged $28 for a lot of it. I will give them 3 stars because the little bit of entree I got was delicious :)

Food is good but limited seating availability so better to reserve atleast 30-45 minutes early.

Amazing everything, from the moment we walked in we were greeted by a kind accommodating host who saved a table for us. From there our waitress kindly served us and helped us choose from the menu. The owner, who was the kindest man, came to check on us and had a lovely conversation with us making sure we were content. He seems like a great guy and I would recommend his restaurant any day. As for the food, the fries and aioli were flavorful and perfectly cooked. The main courses were fragrant with smells of seasonings and the variety of diverse ingredients. I experienced flavors I've not tasted before. 10/10 for the Lamb and Beef Shawarma. The ambiance, was a quaint comforting homey vibe. Lovely silverware as well. The restaurant is a bit small so plan to make a reservation or wait most times. Well worth the wait, parking is a bit difficult. We will be back!

There were seven of us for early dinner. The first time for all except for one to Lebanese food. The service (Thank You Megan) perfect in every way. And Ali you were the best Host in making our birthday dinner very special. We all tried many things, all delicious and comforting.

Loved this place! First time going and it was a cute little place with a really nice vibe. I love that whole area up there. Got the Chicken & Potatoes Mutabbak and Shawarma and was not disappointed! Lots of flavor and everything was cooked perfectly.

The lamb and beef schwarma was excellent and seasoned perfectly. The owner came to talk to our table and was cool as hell. My only issue was that the restaurant is super tiny but that doesn't really matter that much tbh.

Soooo delicious. The combos will give you plenty of food for a good price and the menu is worth sampling. Great service too
