The Biggest New Orleans Food and Restaurant Stories of 2023 | Eater New Orleans

"I wrote about McCord Butchery, a family-run meat and seafood market that opened in Metairie in February 2023 and became an area favorite on Veterans Boulevard for cuts like picanha, teres major, spinalis, bavette, and more." - Clair Lorell

McCord Butchery Lands in Metairie, With Lenten Seafood Specials Aplenty | Eater New Orleans

"Located at 210 Veterans Boulevard in Metairie, McCord Butchery is a family-run operation led by Sam McCord — whose résumé includes chef de cuisine stints at New Orleans’s Royal Sonesta Hotel and time at the Rainbow Room in New York and three-star Michelin L’Arpège in Paris — together with his wife Jackie (a former educator and hotel manager) and butcher Robert Holmes (who’s worked at Grand Isle, Borgne, Red Fish Grill, and Mr. B’s Bistro). The shop offers a full selection of beef, veal, lamb, wild game, and poultry and has debuted an unusually wide range of seafood for the area just in time for Lent. I note that all beef is wet-aged for 30 days, and that pork, poultry, and game carry no additives and are sourced from smaller farms. Daily offerings have included Australian wagyu ribeyes with a BMS of 7/8, tenderloin brochettes, Angus three-bone short ribs, Joyce Farms whole chickens, Chilean sea bass, sheepshead, scallops, ahi tuna, swordfish, and more. The shop plans to carry specialty meats like foie gras, pork belly, and sweetbreads, and also sells wine, beer, liquor, side dishes, charcuterie meats, cheeses, and other accompaniments; customers can special order cuts and products beyond in-store inventory. Current hours are Tuesday–Friday 10 a.m.–7 p.m. and Saturday until 5 p.m. (closed Sunday and Monday), and a grand-opening ribbon-cutting is set for March 9." - Clair Lorell

I went to McCord’s for the first time a couple weeks ago ordered two turkey breasts for Thanksgiving and bought salmon. The salmon was the best that my wife and I had ever had. The service was excellent and I look forward to the turkey breasts for Thanksgiving. We can’t wait!

In an era of skyrocketing meat prices with drastically declining quality, this place is a gem. Although you will certainly pay more than at the local grocer, the quality is undeniable and worth every penny.

McCord is fantastic-all kind, helpful, knowledgeable and they sell beautiful meat and specialties. I’ve purchased duck, roasts, eggs, fine salts, even alcohol. All lovely. I’ve referred two ppl there this week alone. It was a regular stop on Vets until I became unemployed and had to scale back a bit. They are a destination I look forward to returning to very soon.

Fantastic steak! They’ve got nice items you won’t find in the big box stores as easily such as veil liver and raw milk

I was not greeted with a nice welcome to the store being my first time there we actually walked out I felt not welcome. We are African American. The meat in the store nice looking and good quality.

Yelp
Located just before the 17th St. Canal in Metairie, this new specialty foods store/butcher/seafood market is a welcome addition to the city. The pantry offerings are relatively slim, but good. I purchased some cherry jelly that specifically is meant to be paired with cheese. There is also a supply of local produce. I grabbed a couple of onions and garlic and was wowed by some huge, beautiful Brussels sprouts. The proprietor recommended I shave them and add olive oil, honey, lemon juice, and pecorino followed by a brief refrigeration for a unique, fresh salad. I did, and my guests went gaga over it. The star of the show is the meat offerings. I did not procure any on this visit, but will be back for a stunning filet or ribeye. There is seafood, too-scallops, salmon, and sushi-grade tuna amongst other things. I bought a single premade crabcake and pan fried it at home for dinner. The best crabcake I've had outside of Dickie Brennan's. I'm racing because they deserve it.
