Located just before the 17th St. Canal in Metairie, this new specialty foods store/butcher/seafood market is a welcome addition to the city.
The pantry offerings are relatively slim, but good. I purchased some cherry jelly that specifically is meant to be paired with cheese. There is also a supply of local produce. I grabbed a couple of onions and garlic and was wowed by some huge, beautiful Brussels sprouts. The proprietor recommended I shave them and add olive oil, honey, lemon juice, and pecorino followed by a brief refrigeration for a unique, fresh salad. I did, and my guests went gaga over it.
The star of the show is the meat offerings. I did not procure any on this visit, but will be back for a stunning filet or ribeye.
There is seafood, too-scallops, salmon, and sushi-grade tuna amongst other things. I bought a single premade crabcake and pan fried it at home for dinner. The best crabcake I've had outside of Dickie Brennan's.
I'm racing because they deserve it.
