"The people and food at MCG Grand Cafe make us want to set Google Flights notifications for Grenada right away. This small Caribbean spot on Nostrand doesn’t have much on the walls besides a few Grenadian flags, but the very friendly staff and chef will come make small talk if you look bored. The menu ranges from jerk chicken wings to lots of seafood dishes, and we particularly like the jerk salmon with mango salsa (which comes with rice and peas that help sop up the extra sauce). Keep this place in mind for takeout and delivery, too." - Bryan Kim, Matt Tervooren

A little piece of the Spice Island paradise in your backyard! MCG Grand Cafe is not just an amazing place to eat, but it's an experience to be had. The owners are Merril and Chef Gibbs are a lovely couple from Grenada, a small nation in the Caribbean. This has to be one of the few, if not the only Grenadian establishment in NYC. I've eaten there twice now and I can't wait to go back. They treat you like family. This is one of those special places which make you proud to be a New Yorker. They represent what makes our city so great. For this meal I had a baked avocado (which was like nothing I've ever had before!), a beautifully cooked Bronzini (crispy skin, but tender and juicy on the inside), and for desert a mango mousse (which was light and a perfect way to end the meal). The prices are very affordable and everything freshly made. With the Covid situation ramping up again gems like MCG are in grave danger of being closed. Fellow NYers, let's step it up and help this place stay alive so we can continue to have a piece of Grenada in our city, and continue to be the incredibly diverse community we are. We must never lose it. So get yourself over there and enjoy!

My first visit, definitely not my last. Food was delicious.

What a lovely gem of a restaurant. We went after another recommended place had a long wait, and saw that this was near and had good ratings. The space is small and intimate, and the chef and hostess, from Grenada, are delightful. Oh, and the food!! Everything was flavorful and delicious! Our party especially enjoyed the mussels, the callalloo soup, and a whole grilled fish special with lime and ginger sauce. The staff overheard that it was my mom's birthday and they surprised her with cake, which was very good, but the bread pudding in brandy sauce was the hit. The food took a while to come out, but it was worth the wait (you can also call ahead with an order). I cannot recommend this wonderful place enough.

I ordered through door dash. This is my 3rd time ordering from this restaurant. Food is always fresh and full of flavor. Portion sizes are large enough for 2 people. The salt fish cakes are full of actual salt fish and not just a sprinking like some other restaurants. The callaloo soup was very well prepared. It brought back memories of my time in St. Vincent at my grandparents house. The curry goat was well seasoned and cooked to perfection. The stew snapper was flavorful and moist. Bread pudding was exactly like I like it. This restaurant has executed everything to perfection. This has become my favorite restaurant in Brooklyn so far. I hope they keep up this level of excellence. I will definitely keep coming back. Thank you to the chef. Helen A.

We tried this place due to the variety of food served which was fresh and tasted good, the portions were also very large, we were able to have another serving later for dinner. It's a sort of Chinese restaurant with a twist. If the sautéed salmon is available it's worth a try.

First time I went to the restaurant the customer service was amazing and friendly, and the food was heavenly! What I love is the Home cooking feel that the food give off. The amounts of choices are endless and Homemade drinks are lovely. When you go order the salmon in white wine sauce 😍

I have been eating at this establishment since it opened a few years ago. And it's like eating in my mother's kitchen only with better service and food😂. Both chef Gibbs and Mrs Gibbs are personal friends, but the food is what keep me coming back. I have never had a bad experience here. Food is to die for delicious and you get treated like family. I love this place!!!!

I’m not sure what all these people are talking about, but I had Oxtails w/ rice and peas and calaloo and I’ve had better. Maybe other things on the menu are better, but my food was almost tasteless w/ watery gravy. I had high hopes based on the reviews, but was disappointed.

Yelp
Upgrading my take on MCG. Theyve definitely stepped up their game. Its really a hidden gem in the neighborhood. Theyve basically abandoned dining in do strictly take out/delivery. The food is really fresh and you can tell the chef takes pride in what he prepares. Its different than the typical cookie cutter Caribbean restaurant you usually find in Flatbush. The biggest difference is their seafood options. They have a number of different snapper, salmon, shrimp, and even lobster options a available. Theyve got some unique house made sauces to pair with them. And the portions for the price you pay and quality of food you receive is competitive. The jerk salmon is easily my favorite, and paired with mixed veggies (actual mixed veggies not the steamed cabbage with frozen peas and carrots) and one of their rice options it really hits the spot. If Im feeling extra gluttonous I wil also order the mac and cheese which is honest a huge portion for $5. Its a little bit cheesier than macaroni pie but not overly cheesy. MCG has quietly replaced many of the other west indian restaurants I used to visit. Especially if I am feeling for seafood. Glad I gave them another try.

Yelp
This was one of if not the best Cafe in all of Brooklyn. The food was delicious. It was prepared and serve with high-end style. Pleasant to the eye and even more pleasing to the palet. Could out do most of Manhattan's high-end restaurants. Quinte ambiance, cosey, relaxing atmosphere. They kept you wanting to come back for more and more.

Yelp
Probably the most overlooked & underrated restaurant on Nostrand Ave in the PLG area. For the past 2 years, I've visited this place on many occasions: weekend brunch, large group BYOB dinners, our own private backyard party, and lately take-out dining. The owners (Chef Gibbs and hostess Mrs Gibbs) are from Grenada and simply adorable! Your mom & pop shop that treats you like family and are still surviving the gentrification wave. Their food is amazing. Haven't had a bad meal from here. My go to dish is usually the Jerk salmon, either over rice with a side of veggies or pasta. Steamed red snapper with rice and peas is also a hit. We have ordered the lobster spaghetti a few times. That dish was ginormous. A whole lobster. Fed us for the next day. And served at a reasonable price ($17-20). When in the mood for flavorful West Indian food, authentic Grenadian food, stop by here.

Yelp
A+ on services and flavor!!! Me and a friend came here for brunch. Its in walking distance of my apt and I never been there...what a mistake on my part!!! Besides the location when I walked in I felt at home...it literally looks as if they transformed a apt into a cozy lil restaurant. I orders the Cod Fish Frittata with blistered cherry tomatoes and potatoes. All was very delicious and fulling...this phat girl cold have did with more potatoes tho:-) My meal also came with a pot of coffee thats a big plus for...I hate chancing down the staff for a refill. They also had the mango/ginger jam that was so tasty on the toasted pita bread!! I will definitely be back!!

Yelp
Hard to find good jerk chicken outside of the island, but they did it! My cook even asked if I preferred white over dark meat. 10/10

Yelp
Came here for brunch on July 1. Had the eggs Benedict. I think it was only ok for me. Their specialty is Caribbean food so it's my own fault the egg was under cooked (never thought this was possible with eggs Benedict but they seem to have accomplished this). Overall, I won't change the number of stars I gave them from my first review but the tip here is to stick to Caribbean dishes. This place has a very Caribbean feel. I think they are still ironing out the kinks. The place is literally a hole in the wall and it has a cheesy 80s feel. It took about 25 minutes for my food to come out. But bayyyyybbbbbeeee (baby) the food is sooo delicious. Well seasoned and just the right portion amount. I will be back and the prices are sooooo cheap. Salmon, rice, and vegetables was only 14 bucks. Don't get turned off by the look of this place try the food (and thank me later). My salmon was grilled to perfection and they put a nice glaze on top of it. I also asked them to put oxtail gravy on the rice... yummy....

Yelp
My oxtail looked nothing like their picture that's posted . It was not drenched in its sauce like most people prefer and had none on the rice or anywhere in my meal for that matter . The taste of it was rather bland and boring . The same could be said of the rice and peas and the veggies although I'm not as harsh on the veggies . It did atleast taste like it was mostly freshly prepared except for some chewy pieces of oxtail mixed in with some tender ones . Mixing batches much ? Portioning wise, I had no issue but I ended up not finishing my meal so even that didn't matter much . I was also able to get steal a bite of their stew chicken just to see if there is any upside and sadly it too had zero flavor ! Such a shame, especially when the pictures look so inviting . I wanted to like this place but with their elementary missteps, I'll just be sticking a fork in it .

Yelp
Hands down the BEST takeout I've ordered in a LONG TIME. so so good! Great portions. Even the Mac n cheese was slamming! Will def be ordering again.

Yelp
This is a very interesting restaurant. The food is delicious and authentic Caribbean cuisine, but the restaurant itself is a mess. I placed a delivery for a few dishes, my favorite of which was the chicken wings and curry crushed tilapia. It was very affordable and cost less than $12/dish. I decided to order with them again for pick up the next time. Although I came 30 mins later, they forgot to make it until I got there. While I waited, I had a lot of time to look around. I noticed it got a B rating by the sanitation department, which is explainable because the restaurant/kitchen was not the cleanest. It seems like it's an apartment converted into a restaurant, and the bathroom is in the hallway of the apartment building. The tables were also a mess and cluttered. It was disappointing to see this condition in a restaurant where the food is delicious. I hope they do some renovations and clean up so I can go back, as it has a lot of potential!

Yelp
- 5 stars all around - Great food it's like your grandparents cooked it - Awesome service, the owners are incredibly friendly - Its great for brunches, dinners, dates, family meet ups, bringing mom out - Everything is delicious, but the lobster stands out - Food is relatively inexpensive - I just wish they served alcohol

Yelp
When you need your West Indian fix but don't want food drenched in oil and over-salted, this is the place to go. This food taste very good. The vegetables are streamed with garlic. The oxtail was a little chewy, so could've been cooked for longer. Plantains were sweet. Overall I enjoyed the meal. Owners seem to do everything. I would try it agin!

Yelp
Go MCG! Go MCG Go! You are a life saver. It was a Tuesday night after drinks in the city. It wasn't too late but I was craving Escovitch Fish.... and delivery. I tried a few other places but they canceled my order and called to say they ran out of fish. I found MCG on Yelp Delivery, but I knew better than to just order and possibly be disappointed. So I picked up the phone and called with a slurr and all and asked if there was any Escovitch Fish left. She said yes. So I tried my luck and asked about the Lambi which she replied they were out of. Ok ok I can deal with that. So I quickly placed my order online with Yelp. Caribbean Yellowtail Escovitch Dinner Golden Fried Fish Cake. The delivery took about 40 mins which was shorter than I expected. OMG the fish was a great size and very well seasoned. Yesss! It came in it's own tray. The rice and beans and vegetables were packed separately. Yes Yes Yes to the fish cakes! Delicious especially with the Tamarind Sauce. I will be back for the fish and hopefully I can try the Lambi!!!

Yelp
Such a nice place! Really really good food and lovely people. I had the salmon, it was perfect. I loved it and will definitely come back if I'm in the neighborhood. Thank you MCG Grand!

Yelp
Their oil down!! Their callalloo soup! Their breadfruit croquettes! It's worth the trip.. I didn't take pics because it just had to get in my belly!!

Yelp
I ordered oxtail. It was a good amount of oxtails but they were very bland. I had to add seasoning at home. Customer service was awesome though.

Ashley B.

Yelp
All these great reviews but I didn't have a great experience. We ordered on a Sunday for delivery. Ordered jerk salmon and white rice . The rice was bland and the jerk salmon wasn't great. They needed a sauce with the white rice and the salmon needed more flavor. I don't think I'd be giving them another chance for a while or at all.

Ryan L.

Yelp
Great family owned business. Love their salmon burger. They do a couple of small pasta dishes including one in olive oil with herbs. Great menu that includes some soul food classics as well as classic cafe food. All in a home cooked style with a high standard. Recommended.

Yelp
We are visiting from out of state and needed a late meal (9 PM.) The good reviews and walking distance made this an easy decision. A hole-in-the-wall spot with authentic, delicious Caribbean food is one you shouldn't miss. The waitress/manager answered my many questions and gave us samples of sour sop, mauby, and sorrel beverages. Most interesting was the callaloo with crab over coo-coo. So good! Prices are very reasonable. I want to try everything on that creative menu! I see they even deliver. What lucky folks to have this in Prospect Lefferts Garden.

Cara M.

Yelp
I ordered from this restaurant very late from GrubHub, let me tell you the food was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. Like someone cooked it in my kitchen and put it on my plate. The delivery guy was so nice. I am very impressed with their food. I will definitely order from them again. Also, recommend to friends and family.
