Heck yeah! I heard a lot of hype about this porchetta sandwich. So I walked over from the Austin Proper and got this sandwich. Holy cow!! Super fresh. Super juicy. Awesome flavors. Phenomenal bun. Cut right in front of you. Quick in and out. Worth every step and penny it took to get this sandwich! Get one. You won’t regret it!

hands down the best sandwiches in austin—the porchetta with crispy cracklings and the green sauce is incredibly flavorful without being heavy and the ciabatta is their own house recipe: light crispy crust and soft and fluffy inside. unbeatable. served with a side of tangy mustard and mild hot sauce *chefs kiss* eat here, you wont regret it

Now that's how you do a proper sandwich! Paired with the humblest and nicest of kitchen crew and you have something real special. Didn't get a chance to try all their offerings but everything looked amazing. Will be back for sure. It's a must try for lunch when in Austin!

This is the type of place to bring someone on a first date, because you need to know if they’ll eat good and if they’ll eat messy. I got the porchetta sandwich and it was absolutely delicious. They put a side of yellow mustard and hot sauce which compliments the flavors of the sandwich. The sandwich also had cracklins on it so the over texture added a great crunch. We also got the beef asado and it had great flavors and the chimichurri went so well on the sandwich. The bread for both sandwiches was fresh too!

5/5 This is a gem of a restaurant. The person in charge did a great job of explaining the sandwiches to our family of 6. We were in town visiting the Austin public library and decided to take the quick walk to grab a bite to eat before leaving the library parking garage. Food arrived quickly and everyone enjoyed their sandwiches. Thanks!

We had the porchetta and buffalo chicken sandwiches. The porchetta was so delicious. The pesto complemented the meat really well and the cracklins were a fantastic touch. The buffalo chicken fell short of... well, buffalo flavor. I guess if you order it ask for extra hot sauce? it was fine as a plain chicken sandwich though a tad dry.

This place deserves all the love! Sandwiches are to die for, great size, great flavor, high quality . The star of the show is the owner and the workers, everybody is so friendly and goes out of their way to make sure your experience is incredible. Seriously a gem. I can’t say enough good things about this place.

GREAT little family sandwich shop. Here’s why they standout: - The food is innovative and thought through. Beyond the concept, you can taste the love it is made with. - The hospitality is tangible. This is a family joint and walking in felt like we were walking into their home. - They took great care of us and checked in to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. Austin's best kept secret of a sandwich spot. I usually don't like to share secrets but because they're so tucked away, and their (most literal) name makes them difficult to search, I feel like Meat and Bread often overlooked as one of the most legit sandwich spots in town. With that said, their porchetta sandwich is to die for. (For one, I don't think there is another spot in town that even serves this.) The moist (yes I said moist) roast pork is evenly chopped and tastes so rich with the added crunch from the crispy pork skin, supported by their perfectly baked ciabatta bread... chefs kiss. 10/10 recommend.

This is my favorite place in the city for a sandwich. I have to admit I am sad they are on vacation because I can't find anything equivalent of quality and taste. That's how I know it's truly the best. I've eaten everything they have and always impressed. I eagerly await their return like a dog waiting by the door for their owner. Whatever the price it's worth it.

This place should be called bread & bread. There was no meat in my sandwich. I was very excited to try Meat&Bread. It had been on my list for a while and I was finally ready to take the plunge. I ordered a salad and a sandwich for pick up. I had heard good things and really wanted to like it, and, man, was I disappointed when I opened it up at home. 1 - everything was smaller than expected - I included a fork for scale in my photo. For $36, I expected a little more food from a takeout place. If this is a large kale salad, I can't even fathom what the small is like! 2 - to say the the chicken salad was sparse is an understatement. For a $14 sandwich, I expected more than 2 oz of chicken in a pile of mayonnaise. I should have gotten the Italian or porchetta. 3 - not only was there a lack of chicken in the chicken salad, but the flavor or the chicken salad was highly unusual. I can be a fan of unusual but this was not a good unusual. I didn't eat the sandwich. I only eat carbs on special occasions and this sandwich did not meet the qualification for diverging from my typical diet. The kale salad was delectable with meatballs added but by no means a large salad. Small or even regular perhaps, but it should not be called large.

Meat & Bread is a modern sandwich shop on a quiet downtown cul-de-sac, with seating inside in a light-filled space or else outside on their small patio. Small menu but everything was assembled with care using quality ingredients and packed with flavor. Our porchetta sandwich - juicy roast pork, crispy crackling skin, salsa verde - was really tasty. The asado sandwich - braised beef, arugula, chimichurri sauce - was equally delicious. I do wish they would be a little more generous with their meat fillings. Both sandwiches had ingredients assembled mainly in the middle, leaving front and back ends to be mostly bread.

I dont leave 5 stars very often especially at food establishments in Austin because somehow food is overpriced and not well made... This place is not it. They have Delicious bread and filling, saucy, warm, freshly made protein filling. The people who work there know what they are doing and are super helpful with me making my choices, I love it when staffs/owners are attentive. I had the meatball sandwich (#2 best seller, #1 is porchetta) and it was delectable. ciabatta bread looks like they were homemade with a nice crunch and exterior. You can eat there indoor/outdoor or take away. They do have a little weird hours so check them out before you pass by.

First time coming here! I was really excited to try this Vancouver sandwich shop. They have high ratings. Although it's named meat and bread, they also have a sandwich with eggplant. I love the porchetta (pork). The meatball one is really good too. The sauces are minimal but you can ask for more! The sambal (red sauce) is so tasty. Their sink water was not working and there was no more water in the water cooler. However, the owner gave us complimentary Fiji water. They have already contacted their plumbing company so hopefully the sinks get fixed soon. Sandwiches are great! Come check them out!

Ideally I would like to give meat and bread a solid 4.5 stars. It's a really interesting type of shop - I just don't see a lot of individual hot sandwich shops these days, but this place is a really nice local business that makes a mean sandwich! I came here for a lunch date, I got the Porchetta sandwich, and the guy I was with got the meatball sandwich. They were both very delicious, and came with a couple of sauces, one of which was like a mustard and the other was kind of like a spicy tangy sauce. Both of us were pretty full after we ate our sandwiches. I took off half a star (1 star here) because I think the seating inside is pretty limited - there were really only a couple of tables and they were all full even on a Tuesday at noon; they do have some outdoor seating as well but it's hot out there, so that's where we sat, but I was sweating. The other thing is that in my opinion the menu is a little bit limited; there was one sandwich (the asado) they were just out of, and then I think there were maybe four or five other choices. That said, the sandwiches that we had were absolutely delicious, just the right temperature, and very filling. I don't think I could eat the sandwiches very often though, because they are clearly quite fatty - the Porchetta sandwich in particular contains both pork and pork rinds. However, the day I was there, they were out of the rinds which I was actually thankful for because I don't think I would need the extra calories after having eaten the sandwich with all the pork meat. The location is really nice, right by that pedestrian bridge downtown, and adjacent to polvo's. There is a decent bit of construction going on over there right now though so just be mindful (it's more an eyesore than causing any traffic backups). Last thing to note is that all the servers were really kind and very helpful, they also made our sandwiches very quickly, which was great. This is a solid sandwich shop!!

I came across a post on Reddit that showed this place has porchetta sandwich. Which I was craving from my recent trip to Florence, albeit it may not be a fair comparison. The Meat & Bread porchetta was definitely delicious but different. I would recommend giving it a try but just don't be expecting it to be authentic Italian sandwich. The sandwich was a bit small for the price the pork was nicely seasoned with a bit a crispy skin sprinkled in it. The green spread was a flavor bomb but wished it was a bit spicy. The service is fast causal and the seating and busting is self service.

Dang...some of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten. My son and I shared a porchetta sandwich and meatball sandwich - both were excellent. Loved the proteins, but the in-house baked bread stole the show. Crisp on the outside, but soft to the bite on the inside, it was the perfect vessel for all of their delicious meats and cheeses. It's run by a family - when we came in the mom and son were running the front while their daughter who was back in town ran the floor. So impressed with their family run business! If you need a change of pace from all the bbq and Tex Mex, Meat and Bread is a must! The next time I'm in Austin I will most definitely be stopping by to get my fix!

I'm from New York surrounded by sandwiches but this is by far one of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten!! Definitely coming back again and again!

Stopped by on the way into Austin for a very late but easy lunch. We ordered their 2 most popular sandwiches since they were out of the Italian panino. We got the porchetta and the meatball sandwich. Both were very good! Hard for me to say which one I liked better, but both were full of flavor! The bread was also a great carrier for the fillings as well. Nice crust on the outside and the bread didn't get soggy. Employees were also very nice. Street parking only since it's in downtown Austin.

If you work downtown, Meat & Bread is a must for a quick and easy lunch. My group visited during a Thursday lunch hour and were met with friendly and kind service. We ordered their signature porchetta sandwich, kale caesar salad topped with chicken parm, and a meatball sub. Each sandwich had a good amount of meat and other toppings, and the salad was fresh and flavorful. Our favorite was the meatball sub with gremolata, kale, and Parmesan aioli. I only rate Meat & Bread 4 stars due to their confusing and potentially incorrect menu board - we were not sure why chicken parm was listed as out of stock when one of the employees suggested that it be added to the salad, which was then done, and the fact that none of the workers were wearing gloves, including the cashier who was also handling food, despite the boxes of gloves right in front of them. Overall, we enjoyed visiting this restaurant and hope to be back for a future lunch, despite the potentially questionable food handling practices and confusing menu.

Between a 4 and 5 for Meat and Bread. This is why: the shop is tiny and very cute. You walk in and immediately see exactly what you came for: meat! Looks chic inside and has a little patio to eat on. Their menu is fairly simple with the star being the Porchetta - I got the sandwich, my boyfriend got the grilled cheese with it added. A bit pricy for a sandwich but the porchetta was AWESOME! Moist with crunchy bits of skin mixed in. Great sandwich (and if you really conserve you could just do half and save the other half for another small meal). My main complain was that the bread was almost too hard - yes it was very crisp but a little distractingly so. BUT it was near the end of their day so maybe that's why. Also, not much area for parking since they are on a cul-de-sac in downtown. Try to park on the street and NOT in the garage next to it (was $10 for just a short park, but we didn't ask if they validate so our bad).

Delicious! Their porchetta sandwiches are SO good. The pork is moist with the perfect ratio of meat to fat. The crunch of the pork cracklings adds a great texture to the sandwich. My fiancé really enjoyed his meatball sandwich. Personally, I think the sambal and mustard on the side isn't necessary. The sandwich itself is already fantastic as is. If I lived closer, I would want to come here frequently for lunch. FYI, they do not validate parking in the garage, and neither do the surrounding businesses. Your best bet is to do street parking and walk over!

The Mr. first mentioned wanting to try a sandwich place a year ago but I wasn't that interested, especially with limited hours that didn't work for our schedule at the time. However, I greatly regret my procrastination as this isn't your basic slapped together sandwich of cold cuts between two pieces of bread. Instead, each sandwich tastes like a curated culinary masterpiece with your choice of filling hugged around what tastes like homemade fresh bread that DOESN'T cut up your mouth! Porchetta: This pork roast is beautifully cooked, moist and tender with a nice meat to fat ratio. I love how Ernie then puts the finishing touches in front of you, the salsa verde and crackling sprinkled in are just chef's kiss. Meatball: The meatballs were moist and tender and I loved the combination of the parm aioli, tomato sauce, and gremolata, this sandwich even has a slight kick to it! Eggplant Parmesan: I am a sucker for eggplant parm and this one definitely didn't disappoint. Each sandwich is made to order so expect around an 8 minute wait but honestly it was worth it. The eggplant was lightly battered and perfectly fried golden brown but still tender, lathered in spicyish tomato sauce, basil aioli, arugula and the yummiest melted mozzarella to give the perfect cheese pull. Tomato Soup: Again, this isn't your basic canned tomato soup, it was savory, creamy, and so tasty, especially with the pieces of what tasted like homemade croutons thrown in. Writing this review is making me crave another sandwich, and I hope you give this sandwich shop a try! Not only is the food tasty, but Ernie and his wife Lindsay are such a sweet couple and apparently we live close by, hello neighbor! I can't wait to come back to try their breakfast sandos which I believe is only available Saturday 8-11 AM.

I've got recommended this place by my sister on places to check out in Austin. It's a cute shop with a great patio. The service was excellent! The workers were friendly and knowledgeable on their menu. Porchetta sandwich is a must try. The Eggplant sandwich was good but had too much tomato sauce that made the entire sandwich mushy. It has a lot of spillage as well. You're able to tell they use quality ingredients even with those high prices. The size of the sandwich was small, I wished it was bigger. Not food related but the restroom water was scorching HOT! My boyfriend & I saw steam coming out of the water. We had to hurry into the nearest coffee shop to wash our hands properly haha.

Quality is amazing. I am GF and questioned is this was a good spot for me. They had great options. GF Bread was amazing.

Recommend Always wanted to try this place never had time to and if I did they would sell out. Their porchetta is so flavorful and moist. Did not disappoint! That orange spicy sauce was bomb too!! The ciabatta bread was airy and not doughy at all. Small quaint little place but does have outdoor patio seating. Although it was like 90s we opted to seat inside and they were able to accommodate myself, wifey and daughters. Ordered my daughter the grill cheese with porchetta protein add on. Their panini press was legit. Perfect grilled marks on the sando. The staff were friendly and down to earth. Super fast service! Love the vibe. The sandos reminded me of the place I had porchetta for the first time in SF by a food truck underneath some freeway.

Let me start off by saying that the quality of service here was outstanding! The workers were super attentive as soon as I walked in and gave me their recommendations as it was my first time dining there. I ordered the Porchetta sandwich. The pork was incredibly fatty and oily, but the bread helped to cut/balance some of the fat. Despite the fattiness (or perhaps because of it), the pork's flavor was excellent. I could've done without the crackling though. It was pretty hard to bite through as I was eating the sandwich and just kind of added to the overall oiliness. The house made sauce was banger though and paired so well with the bread and pork.

I don't usually get excited about a sandwich but this place is next level. Both of the sandwiches I've tried were excellent and the owner (at least I think he was the owner) was personable, attentive, and truly cares about his craft. I love the small menu, they nail every item. Highly recommend

I tried the buffalo chicken sandwich and it was 10/10. The tomato bisque was ok, not great. My friends had the porchetta sandwich and they gave it a 10/10. The bread is perfectly baked and the meat is super tender and full of flavor.

Friendly knowledgeable service and 11/10 sandwiches and sauces! We tried the Beef Asado and the porchetta sandwiches and they were outstanding! I'd highly recommend!!!

I'm serious about my sandwiches and this place delivers. They have Crispy, soft bread, excellently flavored meat and outta this world service. I felt like I was meat-ing (get it, lol) up with old friends. The restaurant is very clean, well appointed and cozy too... and they will soon serve up wine in the evenings, which will offer a chill place to hang out and eat great food!

This place was delicious for a lunch stop. The Porchetta and Meatball sandwich were amazing. The services was great as well. Told them this was our first time and suggested these two. They didn't let us down. It's not a big sandwich but a good size for a small lunch. The location was nice and didn't feel crowded or overwhelming.

This place is a hidden gem. It's nestled downtown, and they have both indoor and outdoor seating available. It was pretty easy to find street parking in the area. Griffin recommended the Porchetta and said it was their signature. It did not disappoint, I did a deep dive on Reddit and saw several called it the best sandwich in Austin. Honestly, is there anything better than a really solid sandwich with high-quality ingredients? Perfect spot to grab a quick, delicious lunch. Will definitely be back!

It was lunch time at my new office and I wanted to find a sandwich place close by. Yelp: Meat & Bread loved the name and then walked over. I must have beat the rush since it was pretty quiet. I was welcomed in and asked if it was my first time. I confirmed and was looking for a recommendation and was told if it's my first time I had to get the Porchetta sandwich. Porchetta with crackling, a pork-pork sandwich topped with salsa verde? That's a yes from me. I ended up getting chips and a bottled iced tea along with their sando. They have a pretty lean set up; Meat & Bread is not just a clever name the kitchen is devoted to just those things so if you're looking for hot side dishes or a soda fountain this place ain't it. The sandwich though was great. I kind of thought that it might be TOO pork-y? I know that in the first paragraph I said I was looking forward to it but as I was waiting for it to be put together I had some doubts. Happy to say that it wasn't, it had that crunchiness but paired well with the savory juiciness of the Porchetta. The sandwich is the star, so you can find the other stuff somewhere else.

I first visited a Meat & Bread location in Seattle many years ago. The porchetta sandwich has been on my mind ever since. The bread was fresh and the ingredients were clearly high-quality. We were visiting from out of town and on our last day before checking out of our hotel we stopped by Meat & Bread. We got to speak with Ernie, and he was one of the nicest and most personable people in the city! He was just the perfect amount of spirited and inquisitive, customer service 100/10. He was really passionate about the things on the menu, and gave excellent suggestions for not just Meat & Bread but other cool stuff in Austin. Ernie, you made our day. The meatball sandwich was awesome!!! They also have a house-made mustard that's absolutely fabulous. Will definitely make a point to stop in next time we visit Austin.

Cute little spot! The guy that greeted us was really friendly and all the staff were friendly too. The Porchetta was good, but I'm thinking for $14 it would be great. I want to come back to try other options. The hot sauce was good.

I've been three times. Best sandwiches in Austin. First visit the Porchetta was sold out, so you can't go too late or you'll miss this crowd favorite. Since I've now had the Porchetta on the last two visits, I don't see myself exploring much if the menu as this sandwich is THAT good. Glad for my sake this place isn't in my area or I'd eat here weekly.

We just happened to see this while we were sipping our coffee across the street at Intelligentsia Coffee (great coffee btw, well for those that prefer quality coffee beans over sugar). We contemplated Palvo only because the lights attracted our eyes, but then we saw "Meat and Bread" Sold! We head over and are greeted by Ernie who explains the menu to us, the beer on tap and food faves.. Of course he's the owner - I knew it! Exceptional customer service! Ernie genuinely serves his customers. We will be back!

I'm not a big sandwich person but I'll definitely be coming back to Meat & Bread! The Porchetta sandwich was probably one of the best sandwiches I've ever had! Each bite was so full of flavor and my mouth is watering thinking about it now ahaha. We also tried their meatball sandwich (second best to the porchetta but still soooo good) as well as their grilled cheese and broccoli cheddar soup. Their soup tastes more like broccoli and isn't overly cheesy like other chain's soups. And you can add the pork crackling (or any other protein) to their grilled cheese.

I hate looking for a parking but there was plenty on the other side of the building. I was greeted when I walked it. I went with the large salad with the porchetta. The food was tasty but kinda small.

I had one of the best sandwiches that exists in Austin- A meatball grilled cheese. Recommended by the staff and it did not disappoint! The restaurant is a little snug but, clean and welcoming. The staff was very helpful and friendly. A few beer options are available. I'll definitely be back again!

I COULD EAT THIS SANDWICH EVERY SINGLE DAY IF I COULD. the side sauces were also so great. just such a perfect lunch. they offer chips or soup if you're looking for some sides in addition to the sandwich! such a great place - indoor seating as well as outdoor! can't wait to come back ASAP

This is a head nodding place...no talking, just heads nodding because it's SO good!!!! Bread is fresh baked and just enough crunch where it has initial give of the crunch but no ripping of the roof of your mouth. IYKYK Just a few sandwiches, but they do it right. Porchetta was spot on and tender. The cracklings made a nice texture with the soft pork. Two sauces on the side, mustard and house made sambal! It's perfect for the grilled cheese, as the creaminess of the cheese worked well the spicy sambal. Pepper A definitely return place!!

Amazing! We had the Porchetta as well as a Meatball Sandwich and both were great however the Porchetta was definitely the star of the show. The bread was crunchy and fluffy and the pork was juicy and flavorful. Reasonable prices as well. Good for a delicious lunch. The restaurant is very small with limited seating so may be best for take out.

Great spot for a delicious sandwich! Since the porchetta sandwich was sold out, my friends and I got the featured item: Italian panino. The bread was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The meats, cheese, and veggies were paired perfectly with the bread and tasted even better with the sauces that came with. In addition, we had the kale caesar which complimented nicely with the sandwich. On top of the great food, the service was wonderful - the workers were all very friendly and checked up on us throughout the experience. There is seating both inside and outside but there's not a ton of space so it might be harder to find a spot to sit when it's busy. As for parking, you will need to find street parking but there are plenty of spaces around the block. Overall, my friends and I all enjoyed the experience and I hope to come back again!

BOMB sandwich! One of the best sandwiches I have had in ATX. My wife, and I were looking for a good sandwich spot in ATX, and I think we may have found it. The staff was extremely generous, it seems like they really care about the product they provide to their customers. My wife wanted to get a salad, but the owner? Made a comment that they weren't happy with the kale and didn't feel great about selling her a salad. We appreciate the suggestion! We both ended up getting the porchetta, and my oh my, despite looking like a smaller sandwich it packed plenty of flavor and honestly was just enough. The pork was extremely flavorful, and juicy. The bread was crispy, and not too hard. And well this is an awesome sandwich that I will definitely be back to try some of their others. Really glad I found this place!

Lunch spot was busy and it was 230pm. It was a sandwich spot so plenty of tables flip quickly and easy place to grab and go. I had the chicken Parmesan but the best part was you can see the bread was made fresh daily. The chicken looked plain so I had low expectations but the Parmesan spread was delicious and meat was nice and tender. I didn't understand the dipping sauces but it upped the level for sure. The board made for a unique experience too. Definitely will be back

My dad was visiting from out of town and was craving a Deli sandwich. We wanted something different and I found this place! The place has a nice space (indoor/outdoor) and awesome service. It was our first time and 2 staff members gave great recommendations on what to get! One less start only because the menu is really small but the food packs a great punch. I meant to take a photo before eating but couldn't help myself lol

Now I understand why this place has 5 stars! The owners and employees are all so friendly. I've had porchetta before at Eataly in Chicago, but this place is so much better. The bread it comes on is all the things a bread bread should be - warm, nice crust, and soft on the inside. The porchetta is juicy, flavorful, and I love when you bite into the crispy skin pieces. We also had the meatball sandwich and for someone who doesn't care for meatballs, it was delicious! Has a nice little kick to it (not spicy). Both sandwiches came with 2 sauces, mustard and sambal I think and both delicious! They do have some seating inside and in front. Parking isn't great so I would recommend parking in the Seaholm garage by Trader Joe's and it's a 5 min walk :)

All I can say is wow about meat and bread. The sandwich was fabulous. The bread was crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. I could have been happy with just the bread but add the pork, the crispy pork skin and all the other ingredients and you have a truly amazing finger licking good sandwich. They offer a traditional yellow mustard and then their own homemade mustard on the side. What a combination. Do not miss out on this amazing place!!! Staff was friendly and we were able to sit outside and enjoy the weather. My only regret is that I shared the sandwich instead of getting my own.
