"Yassan is a meat kappo of long renown. The shop is busy night after night, filling up as soon as the shop curtain is posted outside. Staff use German as a sort of code, calling tongue ‘Zunge’, heart ‘Herz’, stomach ‘Magen’ and so on. The practice began at a time when many of its regulars were German physicians. ‘Yassan’ is an affectionate contraction of the restaurant’s original owner-chef’s name, ‘Yasuo-san’. Calabashes hang from the rafters around the counter, recalling that Yasuo-san liked sake in these gourds." - Michelin Inspector

This restaurant is a true gem, standing as a testament to family tradition. It's been around for decades and is lovingly run by a grandmother, her daughter, grandson, and granddaughter. I had one of the most uniquely memorable dining experiences of my life here. The restaurant operates in an omakase style, meaning they serve dish by dish, They begin with sashimi-style raw beef. If you're unfamiliar with or hesitant about raw meat, this might not be the best choice. However, we thoroughly enjoyed it; the quality of the meat and the preparation process were pure art and dedication. To truly appreciate the experience, familiarity with Japanese culture and language is definitely recommended, as it's the whole experience, not just the food, that makes this place so unique. We lived in Japan before, so it was not an issue for us but it might not be as straightforward for everyone if you do not speak Japanese. I noticed that most of the customers are regulars, and the staff treats them like family. Even though it was our first time, they were super friendly. They came over to talk to us and kindly answered any questions we had. We visited in the afternoon and then returned before 6 PM, and they were kind enough to accommodate us for dinner that same day. We truly appreciated the experience, the food, and their friendship; it was a highlight of our trip. I highly highly recommend this restaurant, they deserve it. I look forward to visiting again.

If you don’t speak Japanese, it’s difficult to eat in this place, there’s no menu, but you constantly need to pick items from the options the owner offers. Otherwise the food is delicious, beef sashimi especially. It’s also pricy, and you won’t know how much each item costs, you will be immersed in authentic Japanese cuisine and dining experience. Again, if you don’t speak the language, it can be challenging and feels unwelcoming.

Well I can’t review food or service unfourtunately because this restaurant is only for Japanese speakers. I can understand this rule and can’t judge that for sure, hovewer it can be great if there is a sign or note about it (e.g. this restaurant is Japanese speakers only, thank you for your understanding). Because we waited around 40 mins front of the restaurant with heavy rain and somehow we got inside but after a few strange “what are they doing here” looks and some one told us.

First the server said welcome, and then I believe when they realized that I’m a foreigner, the server says sorry we are for reservation only, and that I need to contact them 1 month in advance. Please let me know if the rule is not just against foreigners, as I checked the review says I can’t make any reservation for the counter.
