Top NOLA Restaurant Group Closes Cavan, Its Third Closure in One Year - Eater New Orleans

"For Meauxbar, which LeBlanc bought in 2014 10 years after it first opened, the issue was seating and space — there were no outdoor seats, and reduced capacity requirements could mean as few as ten people inside..." - Clair Lorell

The Latest New Orleans Restaurant and Bar Closings of 2020 - Eater New Orleans

"The longtime bistro on the outskirts of the French Quarter had its last dinner service on October 25, 17 years after it was opened by Matthew Guidry and James Conte. After a change in ownership and a significant revamp, Meauxbar reopened in 2014 under the LeBlanc + Smith umbrella (which also includes Sylvain, Cavan, and Barrel Proof), with chef Kristen Essig at the helm. Essig left in 2016, but the its refined, French-inspired menu continued to be a destination for regulars and tourists. LeBlanc + Smith reopened its five restaurants with a new model over the summer, one employing a leaner staff that receives a base salary and company-provided health insurance. Robert LeBlanc, owner of the LeBlanc + Smith group, said Meauxbar staff will move over to his other restaurants." - Clair Lorell

Meauxbar - Review - French Quarter - New Orleans - The Infatuation

"Meauxbar is located on the very edge of the Quarter and it’s more likely filled with locals from the neighborhood than it is visitors in town for a convention. They serve a mix of French dishes, like chicken liver pâté and hanger steak au poivre, along with non-French dishes, like gnocchi and yak-a-mein, a local noodle dish topped with stewed beef and eggs. It’s a great option for when you want to split a few plates, drink some interesting cocktails, and get some recommendations from a couple who came down for Mardi Gras in the 70s and never left. In case you can’t get enough of Meauxbar, they also serve brunch Friday through Sunday." - Team Infatuation

What a delicious brunch! We highly suggest trying the brunch menu that you can pick two items. It's an amazing deal, they are full size plates & yummy food! Loved that we found a local spot in the French Quarter.

This was one of the best meals we had while in Nola. The service was very good and friendly. I kind of wished we ate here one more time before we left. FYI: The popcorn isn't as good as it sounds.

Google
This was a recommendation from a local. I actually visited by myself because I needed some time alone to enjoy a fine dinner away from the "touristy" areas. It was an awesome place. Cozy ambiance. Cocktails on point. I enjoyed the escargot and the LA amadine fish ( which was a bit zesty for my liking, however that is a taste preference). Great staff also. I will visit again.

Google
The service was excellent. The escargo and pork belly were amazing. The popcorn had duck fat and somehow that was yummy too. The gnocchi and carpaccio were not my favorite though. Great ambience.

My husband and I hunted down this restaurant specifically for the Yal-A-Mein. We were staying in an Airbnb only a few blocks away and saw this restaurant listed on eater and with this convenient location we thought it was worth a try! We are so glad that we went! We walked in on a Friday around 5 o'clock without a reservation. They were able to sit us at a table but also had a few open spots at the bar as well. The atmosphere was Gothic with classy revival and had a very cool modern New Orleans vibe. We ordered the bone marrow appetizer that I think was around $15 and the Yak-A-Mein was 18 I believe. My husband lived in China for two years and has become a total Asian foodie and he was absolutely in love with the Yal-A-Mein. Saw where there was a happy hour menu listed as well with several of the appetizers highly discounted and a list of cocktails for five dollars. My husband had a Moscow Mule which he thought it tasted great and I had a drink that resembled a martini and it was great as well. Both drinks for five dollars which I thought was amazing price for a hand crafted cocktail especially in New Orleans. Or wait staff was knowledgeable and friendly and the restaurant was well staffed and clean. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone especially if you need a day after too much fun cure!

Came here for NYE prix fixe menu. It was underwhelming. I think the only thing I truly enjoyed was the fried chicken livers. The beignets and chocolate mousse were interesting. The beignets hard as rocks, I didnt even finish one. The oysters were far too salty, the spaetzel had far too much butter.

Google
Meauxbar had been on the "to do" list for some time, and since we were coming into the French Quarter to help another friend celebrate his birthday, we decided to have Sunday brunch here first. My gin cocktail was listed under "Strange and Adventurous" and included green tea, shochu, loganberry, lemon, whey, cucumber and strega. Those ingredients might sound a little different, but the result was quite delicious! My friend had only the deviled eggs of the day and while we both enjoy garlic, they had a LOT of garlic. I had the Sweet Potato Hash with Duck Confit and a fried egg, which I enjoyed, but would have liked even more if the egg had been over easy so that the yolk would have mixed with the hash. Lindsay, our server, did a fine job.

Fantastic flavors, beautiful dishes, and an exciting winelist. Good service and charming decor as well.

Yelp
My family and I really enjoyed our dinner at Mamou a few months ago. I had done some research prior to our trip to New Orleans and Mamou was on the list of go-to restaurants. Definitely need to make reservations since the place is not too big and it's definitely quite popular. We were greeted very warmly by the staff and seated shortly. I definitely loved the fresh flowers in the folded napkins as a classy touch. My little one enjoyed the flowers as well. We started with some cocktails. My hubby got the La Vie en Rouge which was delicious! The drink had a complex mix and depth of flavors. The base was tequila with a mixture of beet juice, lime and egg whites. I got a Praline old Fashioned. The Praline was delicious and was a perfect balance with the old fashioned. We got the celery hearts with smoked beef tongue for appetizer. This was amazing and delicious. The flavors were well balanced with the acidity of the tomato base in the sauce and the tongue had perfect cook and bite to it. Overall a winner! For the entree my hubby and I shared the risotto which was topped with large shrimp and some pickled radishes. The shrimp was cooked to perfection with just the right bite. The radishes and greens sprinkled around were delicious and perfect way to cut through the heavy risotto. The risotto is cooked with crab fat and was good and very flavorful but unfortunately too heavy for my palate. We ended up not being able to finish because we were not used to eating such a heavy dish. However it was still good for those who are used to this type of dish. Portions were very large so come with a big appetite or perhaps share entrees if you are interested in trying multiple dishes. Overall had a wonderful evening and great experience. Would definitely recommend on my list of go to in New Orleans!

Yelp
Don't miss this place! The staff are fabulous and attentive. The food was amazing! I'd definitely recommend the Poisson a la Florentine and the heirloom tomatoes/ peach salad, if in season. We knew going in they don't do substitutions and you need to make a reservation since it's small. We thought it would be a great way to try something we normally wouldn't. Three of us split two appetizers, bread service, mixed drinks, and an entree each. After tip, almost $300.

Yelp
Eat here if you come to NOLA! It blends European and Creole cuisine. The gulf fish was out of this world. Loved my cocktail too- so pretty! The bartender described it as a "margarita that does yoga" and that was exactly correct. The only thing is, even the bar is reservations only. I was lucky enough that they had a seat open I could have and I'm so glad the hostess was kind enough to give it to me! Restaurant is small but really cute, service is great.

Yelp
Absolute must. The food is great, the service is great, it feels cozy, and it's close to the quarter. So glad I came and looking forward to going back. I ordered the tartare and the steak. It was a meat night. The tartare had so much flavor and loved the presentation. Not gonna lie, the steak was too much for me, but I'm going back with a friend to try again. Please put this place on your list.

Yelp
This was by far the best dining experience I've had this year. The service was out of this world, super knowledgeable, super friendly. The atmosphere was breathtaking from the florals hanging from the sealing and the dim romantic lighting in this close knit room. It was lovely. The wine list and cocktails were 10/10 some of the better wine that I've had served in an establishment by the glass and not having to buy the entire bottle. Had the steak tartare for an appetizer and it was splendid, great plating and amazing flavor. We shared our entrees and they were out of this world. You have to go see for yourself because words don't even describe the sense of joy I felt with each bite. These dishes truly brought fulfillment to my stomach and spirit! I can't wait to come back. If you haven't tried MaMou and are thinking about it, make the reservation now you certainly won't regret it.

Yelp
This restaurant gotta be one of the cutest places I've been to in Nola. Definitely date vibes! If I were trying to impress someone I'd bring them here. First of all, my sister and I were cold and they gave us a shawl each! So accommodating and sweet! We ordered the bread service (SO GOOD) and the braised celery. I also loved the braised celery, it's so simple yet so flavorful. We got the calamari as well but not my favorite. I was disappointed with the steak because they ran out of the puréed potato. They subbed it with this spinach dish which was okay! They made it up for giving us a couple desserts. My favorite was the lemon Madelines by far! The steak was also okay, I think I would've appreciated it more without the sauce it comes with tbh! It was kind of salty. However, the best dish was the florentine. Not only was it aesthetic but it was good! I can't describe it except that it was good. I'd def come again for that, bread service, and the beet alcoholic drink. Top 5 fave drinks!
google avatar

Yelp
One of my very favorite meals in New Orleans- we sat at the bar and had lovely, attentive service with great suggestions that added to our experience Poussin a la florentine was one of the best fish dishes I've had- I'm so picky about my fish so I had doubts but this is unique and overwhelmingly special Ask for suggestions and you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Loved it here! A nice intimate restaurant which is definitely off the beaten path of the more touristy parts. When I walked in, I mentioned to the host that I was cold. The woman immediately walked over with a gold shawl to place over my arms. That is the sweetest thing someone has ever done for me in a restaurant! We ordered a delicious bottle of wine out of their fabulous selection, and they even let it decant for us before serving! For appetizers, you must get their bread service. The pretzel bread was to die for. The celery hearts were also a stand out. As a meal I got the shrimp risotto. If I wasn't so full from the apps I would've devoured this dish. This place belongs on your "must-dos" for NOLA. Really nice change of pace, exceptional food, and overly kind staff.

Yelp
First time in New Orleans and this place really kicked off our vacation! Starting with the immediate seating at the bar with no reservations although the restaurant was packed so reservations seem to be the move. The bartender was extremely professional with knowledge of the menu and cocktails in depth. We started off with the calamari which was to die for, followed by the Cote de Beouf. 25oz perfectly cooked rib eye for two that melted in your mouth! The decor, ambiance, and service was as nothing short of spectacular . Highly recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
Une experience incroyable. The interior design is fun, tasteful and beautiful. The wait staff is brilliant. The cocktails are delicious and creative. The garlic soup is a flavor explosion. That was my favorite. The quail is well prepared on a bed of pickled cabbage and lentils. The celery hearts and beef tongue are perfect amuse bouche. The fish can't be beat. Come for a beautiful, romantic, whimsical and haute cuisine experience.

Yelp
MaMou is the culinary version of that effortlessly stylish friend who looks amazing in anything and always has great stories. The whole place vibes like a French café crashed into a New Orleans speakeasy. MaMou is where flavor meets swagger, and trust me, you'll leave bragging you were there.

Yelp
This restaurant is very good, but I had the highest of expectations based on so many 5-star reviews and my friends and I were a big underwhelmed by the food. My group made reservations two months ago for 6pm on a Saturday night for 5 people. The restaurant was mostly empty when we arrived, but filled up quickly and stayed filled. Most tables are for 2 or 4 people. The space at the bar is especially welcoming. Benches were very comfortable. We left around 9pm. The noise level got very very loud at 8pm (we may have been the loudest group) and it was very hard to have a table conversation at that hour. Cocktails were the most inventive and flavorful, and I'd definitely go back for a drink. YES - Pretzel bread - good for 2 people, served warm. - Cote de Boeuf, it takes about an hour to cook. Comes in multiple ounces. I think 32 ounces was $180 with truffles. The steak was perfection, but the slices of our truffle shaved overtop was dry and tasteless. Staff present the steak whole, then bring it back to the kitchen to slice it, then return it to the table with a beautiful gravy that also was perfection. Pommes Puree (mashed potatoes) so light and fluffy, probably the best I've ever had. - Poisson a la Flourentine - Red Fish served with a beurre blanc sauce and caviar. The fish flavor is light and the texture is meaty and flaky. NO -Moules Provençale Farcie - fennel sausage wrapped around a mussel, baked in a 1/2 shell over a bed of cheese. 4 servings. I only tasted sausage. Texture was weird and it was hard to separate. - Waffle/squash/bree special - Interesting, tasty, a bit dry, could use a sauce. - Pork Blade Loin - Two slices. Flavor was great, but not interesting.

Yelp
Reservation was easy to make through Resy. Very cute brasserie . Every dishes we ordered were so tasty and nice presentation . We wanted to come back next day but it was a quick trip to NOLA from LA. Didn't have enough time :( I forgot our server's name but service was also great ! Highly recommend!
google avatar

Chuk V.

Yelp
The food was really good but of course, massively expensive. My question - why would you paint the interior of your NOLA french restaurant white? Just very stark and not very romantic feeling.

Yelp
Wow wow wow!!! This place was amazing!! New Orleans has been on my bucket list my entire life so we were doing it up right! The atmosphere was very intimate. The service was impeccable! We were fortunate to get the same server at the end of our trip as well! We started off with Beef Tartar. I then got Cavier and Champagne as I had never tried Cavier before. For our entrees we chose the pork loin and Halibut. The Halibut was absolutely AMAZING! So creamy! One thing that was not exaggerated! The food is delicious! If you want a romantic dinner with delicious food and incredible service you definitely need to come here!!

Yelp
One of the most memorable dinners I've had! Came here for my birthday (with a reservation) and it was incredible. To start, I ordered a mocktail. Unfortunately I don't remember the name of it, but it had butterfly pea. It was so refreshing. For our appetizer, we had the crawfish & shrimp salad 'tart'. And wow, it was so good and the presentation was beautiful. It was zesty and refreshing, and the hot sauce was very mild. The seafood was fresh and a great consistency. For mains, I got the risotto. This dish was incredible. My fish time having quail and it was so good -- inside was a mix of meats -- so flavorful and interesting in the best way. The risotto was so creamy and had corn and cojita cheese. There was also chow-chow, a pickled radish. As my partner was eating his gulf fish, he was definitely secretly picking off my dish as well haha, which just goes to prove how irresistible it was. The gulf fish was delicious as well. Soft, light, and tender with a creamy béarnaise sauce. For dessert, we chose the lemon madeleines, which was our server's favorite dessert too! Plush and bite-sized with pops of lemon. We enjoyed soaking them in the crème anglaise.

Yelp
The food and service were top notch and the white burgundy wine complimented everything. I would definitely eat here again. The place is decorated beautifully as well.

Yelp
A very nice trendy spot with great food! I would recommend a res because it's not that big and it's fill up. The servers were beyond friendly from the moment you entered to when you left. We enjoyed both of our drinks as the cocktail menu isn't your typical cocktail menu. We tried a few different things and our favorites were the gulf fish and beef tarte. We tried the special of the night and it was very bland and didn't enjoy it so I stay just stick it the menu and you'll have an amazing time. Also the food came out really fast so I would keep that in mind on how many dishes you are getting bc we felt very rushed trying to eat everything. Overall if you're in Nola I recommend checking this place out!

Yelp
My husband and I met another couple here for dinner and it was a solid meal with great service. Get: bread service, garlic almond soup, Gulf fish a La Royale. I'm a garlic lover and the soup is fantastic. Not sure where they hid the almond, but the egg is so preciously dressed in a Carolina ham skirt, and the yolk spreads scrumptiously into the soup. My table mate said he'd take a bath in it, and I agree. Gulf fish was perfectly seasoned and prepared; it was the only empty plate of the night besides the bread and garlic almond soup. Hit-or-miss: crawfish and shrimp salad "tart" is funny that they put the "tart" in quotations but maybe that's because the dish is served cold and tart implies cooked. The texture of amalgamated cold seafood was not for me. By my best guess, since I didn't ask, and didn't see them on the plate, the shrimp and quail was also an amalgamate in the risotto. Again, not a texture I was expecting, but if you're up for seafood sausage, might be for you. The baba au rhum dessert dish was prepared tableside but we found it too heavy a pour on the syrup and missed the pistachios in the cream as well. Overall good, and I'll be back for the garlic soup for sure.

Yelp
What an amazing meal during a rather hectic season in the big easy. We visited MaMou on muses Thursday for dinner, and were able to dine and get out in time to still catch the parade. The menu is filled with a variety of options for any and every pallet (including a number of gluten free options). I found them to be unique and worth returning for. Highly recommend the gulf fish a La royale, celeriac remoulade and garlic almond soup. BYOB offered ($50 per bottle corkage fee) but there's a full bar with a diverse selection of mocktails, cocktails and wine.

Yelp
This is a really fantastic restaurant. The care and skill required to pull off such beautiful and delicious dishes is remarkable. And with a small kitchen and tight dining room, it's nothing short of a miracle. The team involved is extremely skilled and orchestrate the magic trick that is calm and refined service during the chaos of a busy small restaurant. I've mentioned the small dining room - it is better suited to parties up to 4. We had 6 and it was tight. But the restaurant could not have been nicer and even accommodated our last minute request to move from 5:30pm to 6:00pm due to traffic. The absolute high point is the food and presentation. The wine list is also excellent and fairly priced. The sommalier has an eye for excellent and balanced wines with the acid and minerality necessary to cut through the richness of the cuisine. Highlights were the braised celery with beef tongue, risotto with gorgeous gulf shrimp, salmon, fish of the day and for dessert - the madeleines and baba au rhum. Everything was not only a joy to look at but also incredibly tasty and perfectly cooked. The only dish we did not love were the moules which were curiously presented with cheese. Fish and cheese does not work in my opinion. That said the dish was still tasty but a bit heavy and one note. A triumph of a restaurant and an incredible accomplishment in such a small and off the beaten path setting.

Yelp
Phenomenal! Probably one of my favorite places in New Orleans, and that is saying a lot since it is my favorite culinary destination in the US. The food, service and ambiance were great. I had dinner with my wife and 2 of our closest friends. I ordered the cassoulet, and the pork loin, which were devoured. My wife and friend had the Poisson a la Florentine, while our other friend ordered the risotto. All of the dishes were delicious! For dessert, we had the Baba au Rhum (emphasis on the 'rhum'), which was devoured by the entire table. Next time we are in New Orleans, we will ensure we come here for dinner. This is a gem located on Rampart Street and it is must go destination for foodies!

Yelp
Everything at Mamou was unexpected and delicious and the service was incredible. The hype is totally worth it. Our personal favorites were the Poisson a la Florentine main and the blue cheese charlotte appetizer. All of the flavor combinations were really unique and made for an exciting meal! All the servers seemed extremely friendly, and ours was especially knowledgeable and more than happy to offer suggestions and describe any dish on the menu. The restaurant has an adorable eclectic feel and the ambiance adds a lot to the entire experience.

Yelp
Elegant, intimate French restaurant with amazing cocktails. I sat at the bar and marveled at how talented the bartender was- great food and company. Highly recommend

Yelp
I am also cried after my first bite, it was that good. This is my first trip to New Orleans for about ten years and Mamou reminded me about what makes it the best food city in the world. I started with the celeriac remoulade, which was full of blue crab and served on the best pain perdu ever. The presentation was fantastic but the taste was even better, I fell in love as soon as I tasted it. While I am normally a fast eater, I tried to eat as slowly as possible as I did not want it to end. I had a similar experience with my main dish, the fish Florentine. The fish was cooked perfectly but the sauce was incredible, again I just never wanted it to end. I added the caviar, which was nice, but the fish is so good I am not sure how much the caviar adds. I normally order since it is healthier but it is not one of my favorite proteins, this was still an incredible experience (not sure about the healthy side, given the richness of the sauce). Hope to go back another time.

Yelp
Amazing!!! Everything was delicious especially the steak tartare and risotto!! The prime rib was also a favorite and I ate off of that for day after LOL great place for a date night or special occasion but it's pretty small

Shyama A.

Yelp
We loved this cozy restaurant on the outskirts of the French Quarter. This was the best French food on our trip to New Orleans. We loved the bread service - pretzel batard with herb dusted butter. The Salad Maison was light and delicious. We got the Salmon Mi-cuit and Poisson a la florentine for entrees. Both absolutely delicious and nice presentation. Service was great as well.
google avatar

Clark C.

Yelp
Wow, just wow. Amazing food in a great setting. The service was excellent and cocktails were superb. Both of us had seafood - fresh, delicious. The atmosphere was great - lively but not loud. Away from the French quarter crowds.

Pam P.

Yelp
We had 4 different entrees, all 3 of the desserts and a few apps...every single thing was outstanding!! The fresh hot bread they bring out with the smoked mustard.. crazy good. The steak.. cooked to perfection. I think they put magic in their food.. its that good. Iram was our server... fantastic! The place is not big so make sure you make a reservation. Great spot for hanging with friends or for date night. You will love this place!!

Yelp
I am impressed though I am sure that means little in the modern world, but I wanted to take my hats off to something - As someone raised on the complex flavors and textures of Haitian Food, I find the flavor pallet used in much of Northern America to be missing in playfulness, acidity, and texture. MaMo in New Orleans Louisiana brought that forward. Before I begin, let me say - I loved the service; sitting at bars is peak for me, it's an experience that brings you to the forefront of the restaurant experience, as the bartender dances a whimsical dance of patron and server. Our bartender Lindsay, danced to the tune of our orders, I wasn't in the mood for something sweet, but I don't enjoy spirits, wine was on the menu. After experiencing the lingering temptations of the white, I decided that a red was on the menu tonight . A delicious Tinto Rotiz blend from Portugal was what my tastes buds needed and I complied. Followed up, my love and I decided to do this dance. I'm rather rigid, at least according to my friends, but when I play, I play, and MaMou's was a a playground that caused my tiny heart to race. We followed it up with the Garlic Almond Milk Soup with Serrano ham, poached egg and saffron. They use the Oxford comma but I decided it to in this instance because I honestly hope this messes up your algorithm and only my love and I have this delicious dish to ourselves. Our entrees the Risotto with shrimp and crab fat , though I did miss the fennel, but the caviar that I ordained on its crown more than it made up for it. The Pork Blade Loin, ah, it wasn't my dish, but i must say - when is Apple going to make the chef kiss emoji standard? The entrees were delightful, the risotto with caviar and the pork with truffle, it all just made our night more fun. We finished our dance with the lemon madeleines, the crème anglaise offered was nice and cool, the Madelines crunch and warm in the center. I adore a contrast, and they gave me all of that tonight. I was delighted, I was impressed and I was pleased. 10/10 would eat again.

Yelp
This is an adorable, very small restaurant in the heart of the French quarter. It has the most amazing owner, chef, and servers. My risotto as heavenly! My husbands steak was good but perhaps not up to the hefty price.

Yelp
A wonderful final meal in New Orleans! We loved this place. Great atmosphere, quiet and cozy. Wonderful service! And the food was to die for. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this gorgeous restaurant when I was visiting NOLA and it didn't disappoint! Found out way after the fact that they're so high-rated but I can see why. All the dishes we tried were outstanding and the service was so wonderful. Will most definitely be coming back the next time I'm in town!

Yelp
Great service and wonderful, cozy setting. The food I would describe as creative twists on French cuisine. My favorite and the standout was the Celeriac Remoulade, which featured a thick, French toast-like rectangle of bread that was absolutely incredible. And even more so from the soft, umami kick of kewpie and bonito flakes on top. The celeriac and toppings provided the perfect textural contrast to the ultra fluffy bread. The dish overall was so savory it almost tasted like it was made of mushrooms (even though it wasn't). The other dish I had was cassoulet. This one was a little more disappointing, maybe it was an off night. It was very salty and one-note. Although the mussels were wonderful - very fresh, with a tang of vinegar and a delightful green sauce, the beans were not very flavorful and I did not feel like the sausage bits (not a lot of portions) contributed much. The breadcrumbs were a nice, light and crispy contrast. Overall though, I would love to come back the next time I visit New Orleans. The beautiful setting, fantastic wine list and cocktail menu, and friendly service made for a enjoyable experience. And the Celeriac Remoulade was absolutely incredible.

Yelp
The only drawback of Mamou is the experience of recognizing that you've finished eating the best meal of your life. I've been around the world, grew up in New Orleans, and thought no one could top the food from Florence, Italy. Mamou shattered that notion within the first bite of their steak tartare. For context- I've never had a steak tartare before this, but I certainly don't think any other would compare. The salt from the capers combined with the tang of the Dijon mustard provided perfect company to the steak. Don't get me started on the butter that comes with the bread service. My boyfriend ordered the gulf fish, and I ordered the quail. Mere words do not suffice to describe the quality of these dishes. The quail came with a broth (I added more to the plate before I took the picture because I could not stop eating it after my first taste), and I ended up eating it like a soup. The madelines were warm, fresh, and paired with a cool, creamy dipping sauce that provided a nice contrast in temperature. I believe our eyes were in the backs of our skulls. Everything was perfect. The service, the cocktails, the wine, the food, the interior design. This place is an art gallery, only with consumable pieces.

Yelp
Amazing meal.. I had high expectations based on what I heard and read but tried to keep it to low. Blew my mind... phenomenal food and service. Service was phenomenal. We sat at the bar since it was packed for Jazzfest. I ordered small plates since it was my first time and I ewanted to get full flavors and experience. Loved it all: cassoulet, celeriac remoulade. Delightful married young lady next to me had the garlic almond soup and loved it... I did share in some of her fries which were delightful. My traveling buddy had the Poisson a la Florentine which was delicious (I nibbled lol). Wine selection is impressive. Spoke to Lilly the owner (from Iowa!!) and the bartender who was incredible and put on a show at the bar. So good. This is a gem, a little off the beaten path and away from downtown but definitely a must-go in New Orleans which has a well deserved reputation for incredible food.

Yelp
This was my first time eating French food and I thought it was pretty interesting experience. The food may sound boring like celery heart but man I was about to lick the bowl clean. The flavors are indescribable and nothing like I ever tasted before. I did like the apps more than the fish entree but I think that's bc in this point of my NOLA trip I was craving vegetables. Service was really good and attentive, they answered all my questions about the menu.

Yelp
The bread service and the celery heart starters are an absolute experience to behold. The atmosphere is small and intimate which I love and the service is amazing. We got to work with Ashley who is just the best and really gave us a great experience. The chef really knows what they are doing and the drinks were a delicious treat as well. This truly was a Michelin experience!

Yelp
The food was excellent. Service amateur. Complements to the chef, but get new staff.

Yelp
I really wanted to love this restaurant. We had Bread "Service": 1 small, skinny pretzel loaf Garlic Almond soup: not so good. I love garlic and almonds but didn't really taste either and the flavor was not that good. Celeriac Remoulade: I love celeriac, and all things celery but it was just okay. Gulf fish a la Royale: good and tasted fresh. Risotto: too much risotto, very little quail. Too heavy. The menu is limited. Not sure I would come back for the food. Best part was the wine and the cocktail La Vie en Rouge. Service was okay. Not too welcoming.

Yelp
Very good but there are better alternatives at this price point in New Orleans . I had dinner with my significant other and another couple. We enjoyed several drinks, appetizers, main course and dessert. This is a complicated review for me to write as the restaurant was very good! The Food, service and ambiance was great but at this price point I expect it to be excellent! A More memorable experience. I could go it to great detail on each course but there's no need. The drinks were a highlight as were the desserts. The appetizers and mains were well presented and although they tasted good they didn't wow! Again at this price point there needs to be more wow. There are at least a dozen other restaurants I have dined at in New Orleans that were similar and better and they cost 20-30% less. As we all know New Orleans has dozens and dozens excellent restaurants to choose from. This would be a five Star review If not for the cost and lack of Wow factor. At a Lower price point MaMou would be excellent but for now I will visit the dozens of other restaurants in New Orleans that are incredible and a better value.

Yelp
Cute little place, good service, and the food was mostly good. Their flagship fish dish tasted overly salty so I didn't enjoy thT, but the risotto was rich and flavorful. It a very French manner, it seemed that the bird is (at least) partially hollowed out and restuffed with a sausage mix of onecN only assume is the main protein ingredients on the menu. Interesting flavor and definitely something you don't get to eat every day.

Yelp
One of our fav restaurants in Nola we can't wait to come back the food was perfect Service was incredible such a cute space

Shamus6732 ..

Yelp
If you like to spend a lot of money I would recommend eating it rather than spending it at MaMou. The pretension was oppressive. Small portions overpriced by about three. Our appetizers were in my case mussels in a bland tomato sauce with pizza cheese, and in my wife's case completely cooked to death celery hearts with beef tongue that was over the top salty. Our entrees mine fish from the gulf was actually melt in your mouth but somewhat bland and my wife's pork that could have come from a deli over uninspired Sauerkraut. Cocktails that were OK but overpriced as was the wines. Most ridiculous of all was a bread "service" that was a pretzel for six dollars. They sell better ones on the streets of Philadelphia that cost a buck. Our server was very nice. Can't say much else nice about the place.

Yelp
Dinner, another hidden gem in the corner of French Quarter, European continental cuisine. "Gigot of Lamb" delicious dish! Cauliflower, Artichoke, Salad of Warm Field Peas, lamb was perfectly cooked, I absolutely loved the sauce. I had a tasty "mocktail" I forgot the name of it but it was ginger-ish flavor. We were lucky to get a table right away without a reservation, this place gives you French vibes, inside decorating with flowers and pastel walls, very romantic atmosphere. The lady greeting us was very welcoming and charming. I definitely recommend this restaurant in NoLa!

Yelp
Was going to be denied because of a shirt, it had no cussing, pride related shirt but it offended someone. Mind you they have no dress code. We were to do something about it or be denied eating. Food was very blah especially for the prices. Definitely wouldn't recommend.

Yelp
This is definitely not one of the 50 best restaurants in the country. It would not be one of the 50 best restaurants in NYC or LA or SF and imo is not even top 15-20 in NoLa. Middling food at exorbitant prices. But we all know the NYT is fake news so what do I expect. Glad to check it off the list. Won't be going back.

Yelp
Best food in New Orleans. Everything we ate was excellent. The wait staff, chef, and hosts were all very attentive, but did not interrupt or pressure us to hurry. We were there about 3 hours and loved every minute of it. The restaurant itself is small and personal. You won't get lost in the shuffle. Just the right size and feel.
