This small, family‑run kitchen balances American Chinese favorites with punchy Sichuan‑leaning plates like spicy noodle salad and hot‑and‑spicy chicken. Featured by Anchorage Daily News for clear flavors, generous portions, and warm hospitality; late hours make it a reliable night stop.

🌟 A Hidden Gem Worth Every Bite! 🌟 My partner and I had the pleasure of dining at Mei's Kitchen, and it instantly became our go-to spot! The food was flavorful, comforting, and so well-balanced—my favorites were the House Fried Rice and Mongolian Beef (seriously addictive!). My partner couldn’t get enough of the egg rolls and beef broccoli. Not only was the meal satisfying, but the prices were totally reasonable. Great food, good portions, and the kind of cozy atmosphere that makes you want to linger. We’ve officially pinned this place on our map—and our hearts—as our favorite spot to eat out. 🍽️❤️ Highly recommend giving it a try if you love delicious food and a place that feels like home.

Very clean place. Excellent Chinese food. Very tasty food and the portions are big. My first time in Anchorage and I have eaten there twice already!! The soup went straight to my heart.

Flavor was there and the tea was good, but the noodles were overcooked mush and the chicken a little overcooked too. Server forgot our drinks and appetizer until after the main courses were out. The walls were almost bare and a large television was playing Transformers at high volume. Meh.

Service was great, and he was very helpful in answering questions we had! The Spicy Fried Chicken was very flavorful & the spice level was perfect! Highly recommend getting it with a side of rice because fried chicken & rice are always a good combo, duhh 😂 The Spicy Garlic Mussels were probably my least favorite. I just tasted more garlic than flavor. Braised Beef Noodle soup was on point! Broth was light and flavorful. The beef was nice and tender and the veggies were a perfect consistency. The Mongolian Beef had great flavorful and the beef was well cooked and not tough! The Lychee Tea was so refreshing and delicious! Can’t wait to try their other flavors. The price point here was definitely fair and you do get a pretty good size portion here. We will definitely be back to try more of the menu!

I love Mei’s! I love the chow mein, hot & spicy beef, Mongolian beef, and sichuan spicy beef. The sweet and sour chicken is disappointing - it is mushy, not crispy, and tastes like it was frozen. I’ll definitely keep going back but won’t get that item again. Overall it’s a phenomenal restaurant and is authentic cuisine! I tell everybody about it.

Google
OUTSTANDING customer service. Food was great and reasonably priced as well. We arrived at about 9:45 pm on Saturday evening with a large (9 person) group. They greeted us enthusiastically and customer service exceeded our expectations. They were helpful in guiding food selection and portion sizes. Portions are large, so plan to share! They were honest, clean, friendly, prompt, and DELICIOUS. Really pleased with our full experience, but the customer service really makes this place great! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! They mentioned they were very busy earlier that day, I recommend calling ahead as I believe they're likely to get very busy.

Google
I'd say it's the best Chinese food in Anchorage, but that's a very low bar. What I will say is that Mei ranks up there with the best Chinese food I've ever had! Hopefully, as they grow and become more established, they'll expand their menu. Dishes are limited in number but not size. Veggie options are few, and they don't make substitutions. But what they do have is full of flavor, light, not smothered in brown sauce. In other words, exceptional!

Google
We got excellent service with friendly staff and great food! Went here with my parents and we got the ginger seafood soup, beef broth and rice noodle soup, and the beef chow mein! The broths were delicious and their homemade Chili Sauce was a perfect topping! One of the best Asian soups in Anchorage by far 🥰

Yelp
Mei's Kitchen is a hidden gem that deserves way more recognition. The food is consistently fresh, flavorful, and made with real care. Every dish tastes like it came straight from someone's home kitchen.. comforting, generous, and perfectly seasoned. The staff is kind, patient, and always happy to help with recommendations or modifications. You can tell they actually care about the food and the customers. The ambience is cozy and no-frills in the best way. clean, welcoming, and relaxed. It's the kind of place you can sit down and enjoy your meal without feeling rushed or crowded. You feel like a regular, even if it's your first time. Highly recommend Mei's if you want great food and genuine service. Definitely one of my go-to spots.

Yelp
Came here after reading an article in ADN, was excited to try a dish that had been mentioned Noodle Salad. Sadly, that dish had been removed from the menu but after talking to the sweet staff they suggested the YiBin Burning Noodles. Stating it was one of the more unique style dishes on town. They weren't wrong, with the mouth numbing Sichaun pepper and plenty of fried garlic it was a a wonderful dish with a scaling heat options. Im excited to come back and try it again with a meat based topping that looked great in their photos.

Yelp
Ordered here for the first time to go.. spicy chicken curry. It's pretty good! But I think the price was pretty steep for what I got. The pieces of chicken were tiny.... Probably won't come back ):

Yelp
Delish! Egg rolls, dumplings, chow mein, sweet and sour chicken, and hot/spicy beef. All were excellent!

Yelp
I have been her at least three times now and have only tried the five spice beef rice noodle soup. It is just so good, I can't bring myself to try anything else. It is better than the best pho in town you know. Trust me on this. I vow to try the braised beef noodle soup next time though. They package the noodles separately and they are so different in a nice way from other rice noodles in your typical pho. These are round like a spaghetti noodle and taste fresh. They also package the other ingredients, scallions, etc separately. They know I like spice so they give me a container of their home made chili sauce to spice the soup up however I want. It truly is the best soup in town except maybe the braised beef which I have yet to try, The first time I went there for it and it was such a popular item it was sold out so that is how I fell into the rut of always getting the five spice soup. This is definitely more of a take out place, small hole in the wall. Conveniently located in mid town and oh so good. They are also very prompt and right on the mark with pick up times.

Yelp
First I have never liked Pho restaurants. My friend dragged me there. This place was awesome. Big bowl with lots of lean beef(no gristle, never seen a chef remove all gristle ), fresh broccoli, scallions, bokchoy. Separate bowl of white rice. Further spicy MEDIUM was hot enough to make my hair sweat. PERFECT!!! I don't recommend any hotter. All for $19.50, olden days expensive, not anymore and the bowl was loaded with REAL healthy food. Service was excellent and friendly.ambience was plain, table chairs and that's all. However I'm going back. Large portions of healthy food in Anchorage don't seem to exist anymore; well one is back...gotta keep this new restaurant alive. 5 stars because I work for a living and don't care 1 bit about ambience. Oh we both ordered water and waiter wasn't phased at all-still friendly and chatty.

Yelp
Came here after work to try some of the new menu items The chicken wings were good. Some of the wings didn't get a good crisp on them but the flavor was still good The Hot and spicy beef is my go-to it always hits the spot. Asked for extra spicy this time ( I usually get med or regular hot ) and the spice was more than I was expecting but still good Five Spice beef Soup is another go-to menu item (All the soups are good) five spice was present but I maybe couldn't taste it too well because I ate this after the hot and spicy beef. Still hit the spot of a snowy spring day Spicy Garlic mussels were probably my least favorite thing I ate. The mussels were cold and I didn't taste any spice mostly garlic Overall still one of my favorite spots And be patient it's two people running the whole thing, still got my food out promptly! Overall enjoyed the food and the little hole-in-the-wall vibe it had.

Yelp
Another hidden gem in Spenard! Family owned, and amazing! Super low key but the food is just fantastic!! Every dish is made to order, spices and all!!!

Yelp
I recommend this business the food is so good and the recent renovation has left the restaurant with an open relaxing sitting situation. The waiters are very nice as well. The fruit drinks are very good!

Yelp
I hesitated to write this review but thought, "Some other family shouldn't waste their hard-earned money." A co-worker recommended Mei's kitchen to me; she said, "It was the best." I should have asked, "Compared to what?" I ordered the ginger seafood rice noodle soup, hot and spicy beef, curry chicken, egg rolls, and chicken wings. I was eagerly excited since I had only had Chinese food once since living in Anchorage. I was asked to pay over the phone since it was a large order, which I was agreeable to. Once I arrived, a very lovely man greeted me; we had a little banter about the increased cost of soda; he gave me a sample of their plum tea (VERY good, by the way), and I headed home. On to the food: the curry chicken was inedible; it tasted horrible and looked even worse. (What was I thinking about ordering curry from a Chinese restaurant anyway? The hot and spicy beef almost didn't look like beef and had no spice, although I did ask for mild spice. The shrimp fried rice had peas and carrots in it, which I do not prefer, but although it was edible, it lacked flavor and the "fried" component. The egg rolls were just not good at all, the chicken wings were decent (my husband and I did eat all of them), and last, the ginger seafood rice noodle bowl, despite me not trying it, my husband said it was good, and it did have a good variety of seafood. To sum it up, I will not be returning to Mei's Kitchen, but the customer service was good, and "hey," maybe there are some menu items I didn't try that are good.

Yelp
Fantastic food and service. Very friendly and quick. Everything was and is fresh homemade I think one of the best shrimp fried rice I've had in town!

Yelp
Tried the 5 spice soup with spiced beef. It was...ok. The broth was good but the meat was tough. It had broccoli and cabbage in the soup which I didn't mind. Not bad but nothing I would go out of the way for.

Yelp
This place is OK. Nothing special, add it to the long list if mediocre Chinese food in Anchorage.

Yelp
Delicious food! Chili and garlic makes everything tasty! Mussels were so good and garlic-y. Prices are great. Service was excellent and no wait on a Saturday night. Best kept secret Joan
