Great late night spot open 24/7 The food is HOT & FRESH compared to the overpriced places on Bourbon street. Make sure you leave a nice tip for the staff. I had the shrimp & grits / wings & pancakes. Also got a big slice of carrot cake to take back to the hotel room. 😋

Went there with a big group, there were only two workers and they were so busy but they did a wonderful job! Food was good and still delivered in a timely manner! The lady working the front was so sweet too! Portions were way bigger than I had thought! I got the grits and they were so good!

If you’re looking for a comforting place to enjoy Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner, Melba’s is a wonderful choice! Every dish is made with genuine care and passion, so you can truly feel the warmth in each bite. Come and experience the love that goes into their food—it’s like receiving a heartfelt hug with every meal. You're sure to feel right at home!

Stood in line 5 minutes as the only customer. Guy stood in front of me looking at the monitor and never spoke to me. THERE WAS NO ONE IN LINE! One person waiting and a single table of 4 people already eating. After being ignored for 5 minutes I left. By the time I got to the car he was already around back talking to someone in a car about how he “has to work”. First and last time to this location. If they didn’t meet quotas today 100% he is the reason why.

Unfortunately I love this place and the food but it lacks consistency. I’ve ordered twice online and had to still wait 30 minutes to get my food. It’s hard for me to be in crowds because I’m autistic so a 30 minute wait feels like years. Good food but order delivery. Corn grits are yummy. People are friendly they just need for organization.

Google
The chicken skin was crunchy and the meat was spicy, but it had a weird sweet undertone that I wasn’t really feeling honestly. I wasn’t a big fan of the fries either. Ranch was also $1.30, which is crazy.

I drove past this cute blue and white double decker building for weeks. So, I decided to order a Togo. The delivery destination was just 1.4 miles on the same street of the restaurant. We ordered three orders of fried shrimp Po boys with Fries. The food was delivered at room temperature. The French bread was pretty in a picture. Though it was as dense as a brick (inedible). Sadly, the protein was a low-quality Shrimp. The veggies were freshly cut on a plus note. Also, I prefer house fresh tartar sauce. Kraft tartar sauce and ketchup packets were provided in my Togo bag. The French fries were not hot or cut in house. All in all, we were dissatisfied with our dining experience. I encourage you to look at my photos.

Google
Ok 24hr food joint. You used to be able to find 24hrs cafes/bars/restaurants everywhere before COVID. There's plenty of seating, but I'm guessing this is mainly takeout, especially after 2am. Standard New Orleans fair, poboy, burgers, fried seafood, random Chinese/Asian. I had a fish poboy and fries. The fish was not as crispy as I like but still good. The fries were fresh but in need of salt. You can order online, by phone or QR code and they have kiosks. There's a hookah club upstairs plus several video poker machines. They're a decent option in mid city for late night grub.

Yelp
We came here tonight for a late night bite and it was somewhat busy. We got two sausage egg cheese sandwiches on toast, pancakes with grits, biscuit, and chicken wings, and pancakes with grits and eggs. We ordered there and waited about 45 minutes until our food came out. The food was phenomenal! I was especially impressed with the buttery biscuit, moist pancakes, and flavorful eggs. The chicken wings were also really good and better than a lot of the chicken wings I've tried. Service was alright. Best way to eat food here is probably order an hour ahead so you get your food right away. Otherwise you'd wait awhile, but the food was definitely worth the wait!

Yelp
We went to Melba's last night for a late night po-boy after a night of listening to incredible music at various locations around the city. We ordered 2 fried shrimp po-boys and 2 fried fish po-boys. The po-boys were delicious as always. The service is why my review is low. We waited more than an hour for 4 po-boys. The restaurant was not busy. When the food was served, there was no apology. I would think this was an anomaly except we had the same experience at two other Melba's locations. This is a shame because Melba's has been my go-to for years.

Yelp
Everything! I absolutely don't know what happened to Melva"s especially the one on Tulane. FOOD I'd not the same! We had a party of 6 and went to Melva's with a big appetite. The Manager and the cashier were nice. Nevertheless, we got home only to learn my fish plate and my Brothers who was visiting from put of town received smelly and soggy fish plates. Literally soon as we untied the bags and opened our plates you could smell and see it. The fish was no good. I immediately called to speak to the Manager but he left ot to the cashier to deal with me regarding the matter. Yes she offered us to come get another plate. Why? No thank you, I just want a refund please? I hear the Manager talking and was advised my refund would be on my card 3-5 business day.. #StillWaiting We used to go to Melva's often but never again. Okay this was Saturday September 28, 2024...today is Wed. Oct 9th 2024 Waiting on à 30. refund out of 80. Plus dollars I spent...it's cool. I'm done. ‍‍

Yelp
This restaurant is 24 hours and day service is good but the NIGHT MANAGER is awful, he is rude and kicks many would be patrons out for reasons that can't be explained. Seems inconclusive to a productive bottom line
google avatar

Yelp
Gave two stars because it was one of few late night options open. My food was not good. I got the roast beef platter. The beef was incredibly dry and incredibly salty. The rice it was over was undercooked. The green beans were okay but had some weird chewy pieces. Cornbread was gross. Maybe the breakfast is better...
google avatar

Marquise C.

Yelp
The food tasted good but the rice was hard and not cooked all the way and i had to wait over 40 minutes for my food. After waiting over 30 minutes i was notified that the jambalaya wasn't going to be ready no time soon so they change it to fries. the cornbread tasted good and the price is reasonable.
google avatar

Deon C.

Yelp
Food bland, cafeteria type set up.. Service ok but overall I wouldn't recommend if you looking for some savory food, maybe just a quick grab and go to hold you over...

Tiffany M.

Yelp
This is the second time I came to this restaurant while visiting for Mardi Gard just so I can be far but the baked chicken had no seasoning, the mac and cheese was horrible the cheese was not melted and the bottom of my container was oily also why isn't elbow noodles used instead, the greens beans had no flavor what so ever it taste like it came straight from the can, I was very disappointed for this city to be all about Creole there was nothing Cerole, or flavorful about this place.
google avatar

Kenneitha S.

Yelp
The service was extremely bad we waited almost an hour . Mind you the place was not packed at all and still had to wait an hour for a hot sausage sandwich and bourbon chicken. Although, the sandwich was really good. The workers was unprofessional they was talking to other people while people needs to order their food.

Yelp
Came to Melbas with the hope of trying their food based on yelp recommendation, arrived to an empty restaurant and both employee at a far distant chatting away and when we finally ordered, we waited over 45 minutes to be told that the grill was still NOT hot enough to make an order of hot wings and a sausage poboy sandwich... mind you three other customers showed up after us and they all were serviced and given their food before us, and it seems they were given food from the grill because I heard and smelled the grill cooking. I asked for my $30.91 plus $3.00 tip refund and the cashier still had the nerve to question me about giving back her $3.00 tip. I'm very disappointed with the customer service to this facility. (Mind you the female employee expressed that she wouldn't be working there in a few weeks and made me feel that she didn't care) We don't recommend this place.

Yelp
The customer service was great. The manager, cashier, and cook were very personable and friendly. The restaurant was very clean, including the bathroom. I got my food and was disappointed. I got the 5 piece wings with fries. The chicken had no seasoning on it all, no flavor to it whatsoever. The fries were wilted. The saving grace was the ranch dressing I asked for to cover the blandness. They have many items on their menu to choose from. Maybe I'll have better luck next time.

Yelp
Great food the max and cheese was my favorite then the yellow corn grits definitely different than expected will be back

Amber K.

Yelp
My friends and I were in town from out of state and looking for something to eat for lunch. Everything was so busy and thankfully came across Melba's. Everyone was so nice and the shrimp poboy was absolutely delicious and fresh. Clean and calm atmosphere.

Yelp
Went during Mardi Gras Weekend. Definitely A little spot to stop where you pick from the menu to order or you can order from the display of foods. It had a mom and pop feel as it is ran by a B/o family! Definitely great customer service as a great crowd of people. Had several great conversations with the locals. They had several To go options as well as To go Daquiri options. Large portions, large Daquiris. If you are looking for something decent to eat without the whole "restaurant feel" yet has the seating if you would like to dine inside. It's a small game room inside as well as like a little WiFi shop. Clean bathrooms.

Yelp
Great quick bite at a great price they have a great variety and family meal deals. Very good lunch dinner and I found out today they have breakfast. The have most the New Orleans food and some soul food selections. The staff is friendly and it has a locals feel and mostly locals dine hear. I had 2 over easy eggs sausage and grits with toast. They call it the big man's breakfast for about $9-10 dollars. Good food good people. Laissez le bon temps rouler Let the good times roll

Yelp
do yourself a favor and eat at Melva's. The Bourbon Chicken was a surprising fusion of spicy Cajun and Asian served with well seasoned, mashed potatoes. The Mac and cheese could probably be certified as a nationally recognized comfort food. And it's he only place i know of where you can buy an order 1,000 chicken wings. Prices were very reasonable and it's located near the Smoothie King center so you can grab some substantial food before a Pelicans game. you won't regret Eating at Melva's.

Yelp
Love this location. This is right across from my gfs place. Definitely prime real estate. Got the roast beef rice and gravy and it reminded me of my grandmothers. Took me way back. It was so much food I had leftovers and it was only 11 bucks with a side and corn bread. Will be back many times. Also, daiquiris!

Yelp
My partner and I are in New Orleans for a conference and after reading reviews for Melba's thought this would be a good place to drop in for a quick bite. The quality of our food was so bad. I was upset that we paid $40 for food that was practically inedible. It was sloppily thrown together, half of it was uncooked, and our drinks tasted like the soda machine had mildew in it. I would have sent it back but I heard the manager yelling at one of the employees and I didn't want to deal with it so we just left. We love New Orleans and this was hands down the worst food we have ever had here.
google avatar

Redd F.

Yelp
This was one of my first spots I visited here in New Orleans. It was a suggestion was made by a Louisiana native who knew about the other locations. A triangular shape building with a two story floor deck accommodated the building. The interior was really cool. It seems hip and good music was definitely in the air that I remembered. The cashier was a heavily accented Nawlins who gave me a good recommendation. I decided to get some Mac n Cheese an BBQ wings. I know what you thinking a "party plate". I'll be back to get try some other food my mouth was watering over.
google avatar

Yelp
Ordered gumbo, jambalaya and a catfish PoBoy, none of it was good. Like most places across the country food isn't what it was pre-pandemic. And the fact that I needed a serious memory jog in order to remember what I ordered is telling. Go to Parkway to get a good po-boy. As for gumbo....we're still searching for a good batch it's been a struggle to find.

Andrea W.

Yelp
Shrimp 'N Grits was really hittin Would eat here again a thousand times. Corn Grills

Yelp
Stopped here with a friend when visiting New Orleans for the first time and loved it! Great food, friendly service and a cute little place with seating inside and outside.

Amya B.

Yelp
Food is absolutely revolting, beans and rice were hard and flavorless. Jambalaya was mushy, and the Mac N cheese dry and clumpy. The fries were even hard and inedible only saving grace is the chicken.
google avatar

Leslie S.

Yelp
Right across the street so I'm glad the food was so good I'll be going there often! So far I've had the 9th ward gumbo (probably the best non homemade gumbo I've had) and the red bean and rice plate. The red beans were a little salty, but I got it with the chicken tenders and those were amazing! The corn bread is amazing as well!

Yelp
Melba's has always been my to go place but do yourself a favor and don't even bother to order at the new location by Tulane. I've given them plenty of opportunities but every single time the waiting period disappoints. There's been times I've literally had to wait almost two hours because of bad organization with their orders or not having enough employees during the night shift. To make it worst their employees don't take accountability and try to blame each other or the online orders. They need to do better at finding staff that actually want to work, specially some that know about costumer service. Ps. Ms Susan ain't cutting it for that job. But god Bless her.

Yelp
Melba's Poboys 3219 Tulane Ave So, UberEats decided to throw a buy-one-get-one-free promotion at me, and you know I couldn't resist! They delivered eight drumsticks and two flats, which landed me with a whopping 16 pieces of white meat and 4 of dark meat. Talk about a poultry imbalance! Melba's must've recruited their chickens from a marathon or track team because these birds looked like they were prepping for the Paralympics! Some legs were so swollen they should've been wearing special support stockings. Others qualified for crutches and a Medicare plan while the others wait in ICU. I half expected to see a little chicken on an electric scooter zooming by! You can tell they're not in the habit of changing the oil. Don't get me started on the texture of the "meat"! I took one bite for taste and two more for science. Not chewable. Pretty much like chewing gum, non stop. There were so many strings stuck between my teeth I thought I was auditioning for a horror movie. I even considered investing in barbed wire instead of dental floss. Seriously, the chicken was so greasy it dripped more oil than a mechanic's garage. I've seen less oil at a P-Diddy late-night party. After taking some "artistic" photos of the monstrosity, I sent them to Uber Eats for a refund. With just one look from them, they processed the refund quicker than fast. So here I am, officially breaking up with Melba's Poboys. It's like the owners and cooks have teamed up for a top-secret chicken conspiracy got new cooks or new owner or something. Lesson learned: I definitely won't eat chicken from fast foods anymore, anywhere.. They won't tell you if its Lab-Grown Meat..I can fry chicken myself! From now on, when I buy chicken, I'm checking for the word "HATCHED" on the package. If it's not there, I'll know I'm dealing with Lab-Grown Meat! Cc: Yelp Cc: Google Local Reviews

Yelp
Love Melbas on Tulane with huge outdoor eating spaces. Our faves are shrimp and grits, turkey leg and so many great sides. You can't miss at Melbas.

Tanja D.

Yelp
I was in the area and was excited to try Melba's for lunch. I ordered the 5 piece wings with cabbage plate. Everything was disappointing. The wings were fried soft and the batter needed more salt, the cornbread had a lingering vinegar taste to it, and the cabbage was old and flavorless.

Joshua B.

Yelp
The customer service was abysmal the employees were rude AF the food is overpriced (almost 4 dollars for a big shot cold drink?) not to mention the food is better looking than it is tasting everything is too salty but the worst part was the unwelcoming energy of the employees. eat pray love ? Not if Melbas has anything to do with it.

Allison V.

Yelp
Got the build your own omelette on Doordash with cheese, onion and bacon plus the corn grits and a biscuit. Also got a cornbread to meet the $15 value for discount/doordash bonuses, and then fries since they're listed as $0 online and I was curious (might want to fix that). What. A. Value. Got a big tasty omelette, a whole cup of some of the best corn grits I've had, TWO biscuits, an adorable little mini loaf of cornbread, and fries! Let me reiterate - free fries! The biscuits were a little dry but I had them with the omelette and grits and it all worked great, the cornbread was kinda dry and a little gritty? Still tasty though, and the fries were surprisingly great for free fries! They included some ketchup packets too. Overall, great bang for your buck, great value, great service (fast, too)! Would definitely order again, perfect late night diner food.

Yelp
It was good but depending who cooking is when I'm most pleased I found that when I order during certain days I catch the right cook in there

Yelp
Melba's Poboys 3219 Tulane Ave There are a few times in life when a meal is so expertly crafted and planned that it is nothing short of genius. Today, I had one of those meals. So, if you're going to splurge, this is the place. I did Uber Eats for this meal. I don't usually comment on restaurants, but the food here is awesome and Budget-Friendly. The food was well-tailored and prepared to my request and liking. Eat and enjoy your meal with confidence. You won't be disappointed. I can confirm that Melba's Restaurant is committed to providing each customer with the highest standard of quality food and service, an act that demonstrates a genuine desire to satisfy, if not delight, a customer. Yelp
Highly unsatisfied! Never have I ever been this upset at this restaurant! I went to this restaurant at 11:00 pm on 12/1/2023. I was so excited bc we had just had a wonderful night.! Just left the 85 south show.! So you know we were in a great mood! We waited in line which wasn't long at all we were literally the 2nd ppl in line. Or order was placed at 11:11.We ordered 10 piece wing and pancakes and chicken combo.! We waited talked and chilled for our order..! Everyone around us started getting their order we never got ours. I sent over to the counter asked for the manager. The managers acted very rudely and did not resolve the problem. We left, I called back the next day to complain and talk to the store manager. Btw I haven't spoke. With the store manager and it's almost been a week. Don't eat there the service is horrendous

Sting E.

Yelp
Lawd! You simply gotta go for the Shrimp and grits! Shrimp can be either fried or grilled. We chose grilled... perfect. The grits, cheese/ corn grills are slapping delicious. The staff is quite pleasant and competent! Go!!

Yelp
The Tulane Avenue branch of Melba's has REALLY GONE DOWN since the restaurant was sold to new owners. When I was staying at Site 61 Hostel from in December and January last year - just down the road from this location - I visited the restaurant frequently - on recommendation of the hostel supervisor and enjoyed the food, coffee, and sitting area a great deal. I loved especially the side dishes, such as the jambalaya, corns, and beans. From around March of this year, however, the restaurant has undergone a 100% downturn. I now go there only occasionally, often after shopping at Goodwill nearby. The outside order window has been taken away, and the upstairs Internet cafe has been converted into a hookah lounge. The number of employees has been reduced drastically to only two, and it's now far less busy a place. Many of the decorations have also been taken away. There are fewer foods and beverages available than before, and their kiosk machine is complicated to use. The Community Coffee machine is now no longer in the open area for self-service. The staff, especially the guy, are also rude and unhelpful. I had two unpleasant experiences there recently. One time was when my boyfriend and I went specifically for coffee and for a place to fill out a job application, only to find their coffee machine broken (which had never happened any time when I'd visited in the past). Another time was when I was VERY HUNGRY after not having eaten for nearly 12 hours (due to being busy), and I found that there was no longer a single item on their menu that doesn't contain pork or beef and is not fried. They need to make the restaurant more friendly to vegetarians and healthy eaters - for example, they could offer jambalaya that is not mixed with pork. The food prices also seem to have gone up - before, it was easy to get something for $15 or less, but now the figure is more like $20. So I ended up not being able to order anything, and no other place was open in the area then, so it was another hour or so before I got home to eat!

Yelp
This place is my dream--amazing food, author visits, book store, laundromat, daq shop!! I have always wanted to do a laundromat that serves neighbors with a play space/learning area for kids and their parent--this is over the top when you add in the friendly staff, delicious po'boys, and daiquiris!! You get a free daq with every book you purchase. They have had authors and illustrators from all over--diring the pandemic, they continued via zoom. I believe they do something for students who bring in a report card showing good grades, as well!

Yelp
Very impressed with my late night food delivery run.. my mom and I had the grilled shrimp Po Boys and they were very flavorful. The bread was a bit hard however the flavor that the shrimp had you completely bypassed that small issue.. overall food was great and will be back the next time we visit NOLA.

Yelp
We got the gumbo after it being recommended and it taste old it gave sewer water and even smelled like it

Grace L.

Yelp
Was trying to get something simple, tried what supposed to be sausage and chicken gumbo. It was horrible. This was not nearly close to a Gumbo. I don't know what this was.. more like a greasy broth with hard rice. Watched the guy on the register go from taking money to fixing food while picking up the persons food with his bare hands. Everything else sitting out, looked old and nasty too. Bell peppers looked stuffed with puppy chow. Nice outside patio I guess.
google avatar

Roshawn B.

Yelp
No one greets you with a hello or how can I take your order was the first issue. As we are waiting for someone to take our order, they told us to hold on while the server turned down their AirPod 8in their ear. The server was having a personal conversation and apparently we were disrupting their conversation. I needed to say this before I even ate my food.

Cut Up L.

Yelp
the food is not good no more they serve you old food. The morning shift is very rude. They never wanna give you fresh food. They want to give you stuff. They've been sitting up there all day. This is ridiculous they need to get it together, but they gonna lose business with the morning employees with the attitudes the night crew. I love them.

Randy K.

Yelp
we kept seeing this place an said one day we were going to stop an try it, well we finally did and it was worth every penny of it. we had the shrimp groan they are FANTASTIC!!!!!!! We have found our new breakfast place for this area, I highly recommend this place. An the workers there greeted us when we walked in & when they walked by asked us if everything was alright with smiles. An listening to them talk in the background you can hear that they like working there. The restaurant its self is very clean as was the bathroom. We will DEFINITELY come back here to eat.
google avatar

Kevin S.

Yelp
This is a great no frills 24hr basic food joint. It's nice, fresh, & clean. You can order via their smartphone app, @ a kiosk outside the restaurant, or with a person inside the restaurant. Personally, I love the app. Staff is friendly & personable. Food isn't haute cuisine, but it's tasty with a large menu. I recommend the shrimp & grits. They're excellent.

Joy W.

Yelp
PLEASE AVOID THIS PLACE. We got gumbo, Mac n cheese, greens...this was probably the worst food and service I've ever had. To start THE MAC N CHEESE WAS ROTTEN. Absolutely disgusting. It had a noticeable rotten taste and smell. Also the food was flavorless. What's surprising is another reviewer stated the same thing! There is definitely a gross lack of care and concern for the health of their customers. I can only imagine what their back of house looks like. After ordering my meal at the kiosk, we went to the counter to order dessert. Whoever the middle age guy who " helped" us with the desserts was, he was so rude and we were completely clueless as to why The audacity to have an attitude and serve rotten food is ridiculous. Most of the staff acted like they didn't want to be there with another staff member stating he doesn't get paid enough for this...this was after he had to replace soda in the dispenser. What a waste of my time and money, and a horrible experience. My next call is to the health department because it's just a matter of time before someone becomes seriously Ill. And what's most disappointing is that someone recommended this place.

Lindsey C.

Yelp
Melba's is incredible and authentic. One of the best Poboys I've ever had! The red beans and rice and jambalaya are two of my other favorites. The daquiris are also to die for! Give this place a try!

Yelp
We had just go to New Orleans from airport and to out air B and B. I ordered food at 1:30 am for eleven people said it would be 30 minutes and it didn't come, by 3am I called the restaurant to see where our food was, a very rude employee said for me to take it up with the delivery company and hung up on me, we didn't get til 4am by that time people were going to bed or already sleeping. Everything was cold and soggy, was very unsatisfied I do not recommend.

Yelp
What the hell is a ( credit convenience fee) !!! They don't even tell you that you can pay cash. Really turnt off. Check you receipt
