Mel’s Drive-In - Review - West Hollywood - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"You go to Mel’s Diner for milkshakes, wet omelettes, and a kitschy-retro vibe that will make your current pain disappear. And is there any better era to escape to than 1950s California when swimming in the ocean was still appealing and blatant Hollywood sexism was referred to only as “show business” followed by a wink?" - Brant Cox

I visited Mel’s Drive-In at Sunset Plaza (8585 W Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood), and it was honestly one of the most memorable moments of my trip to Los Angeles. At first, everything was just perfect, the retro vibe, classic diner music, and warm California sunset setting the mood. I ordered the Hollywood Burger, paired with crispy golden fries and a cold refreshing beer, and just sat back, completely relaxed and soaking in the iconic atmosphere of West Hollywood. But what started as a chill evening turned into a heart-stopping moment when I realized I had lost my wallet and not just any wallet, but the one that held all my most important documents, including my passport. Without it, I wouldn’t be able to return to my home country. I felt panic rise in my chest and was literally on the verge of tears. Luckily, the staff at Mel’s Drive-In were incredibly kind, calm, and quick to help. One of them had found my wallet and kept it safe, and when they handed it back to me completely intact, I almost cried out of relief and gratitude. It was not just about great food or a nostalgic American diner experience. It was about genuine kindness. Mel’s Drive-In gave me not only a taste of Hollywood but also a memory that I will never forget. Thank you to the amazing staff, you didn’t just serve food, you saved my trip.

Mel’s Drive-In near Hollywood Blvd serves up delicious comfort food in a fun, retro atmosphere. As a historical landmark, it captures the spirit of classic Americana with vintage décor and friendly service. Perfect for tourists and locals alike, it’s a must-visit spot for a tasty meal and nostalgic experience.

Iconic American Diner with Classic Vibes We had brunch at Mel’s Drive-In on Sunset Boulevard after visiting the Walk of Fame, and it truly felt like stepping into a classic American diner. The retro interior is iconic, and they offer free valet parking, which is convenient in that busy area. It was very crowded during brunch hours, so the service was a bit slow, but the staff was friendly. The milkshake was a standout—super delicious! My daughter and I had French toast, which was okay but not exceptional, while my husband really enjoyed his biscuits and gravy with eggs. Overall, the atmosphere and experience were memorable, but the food and prices didn’t fully live up to the hype.

I stopped by Mel’s Drive-In and ordered the veggie sandwich with a side of crispy fries. The atmosphere was fun and nostalgic as always, and the service was friendly. The veggie sandwich looked fresh, but it didn’t quite hit the mark. The bread was very dense, which overpowered the fillings a bit. It came with a very thin layer of hummus, creamy avocado, tomato, and sprouts—great ingredients, but it needed more flavor overall. A bit more seasoning or sauce could have made a big difference. The crispy fries, on the other hand, were excellent—golden, hot, and perfectly crunchy. Overall, not bad, but the sandwich could use some tweaks to live up to the rest of the experience.

Mel’s Drive-In is always a hit! A must-visit if you’re in LA. We’ve been a few times, but our recent visit for the SKIMS collab was such a fun experience and unexpected pairing of classic diner vibes with modern pop culture! The collab menu was fire, we had the Buttery soft pancakes, SKIMS Smash Burger, Trending Tenders and the SKIMS Signature Shake. Everything tasted amazing, and the whole experience felt nostalgic with a playful, fashion-forward edge. Mel’s always delivers for a quick bite — solid diner staples, cute retro atmosphere, and friendly staff. Bonus - open 24/7, so it’s the perfect go-to any time of day (or night). Highly recommend checking it out — especially if there’s a themed event going on!

Google
Absolutely fantastic experience at Mel's Diner on Sunset Blvd! From the moment we walked in, the service was top-notch – attentive, friendly, and genuinely made us feel welcome. The diner was impeccably clean, creating a comfortable and enjoyable atmosphere. And the food? Truly amazing! Every dish was cooked to perfection, bursting with flavor and using what tasted like high-quality ingredients. This is a classic diner experience elevated. Five stars all the way!

Google
Another Mel’s location we like to stop by. This one in West Hollywood has a great vibe where you sense B-listers stopping by at any time of the day to feed themselves on shakes and burgers. The location is in a great neighborhood and they just recently team-up with Skims next door, which makes it even busier than usual, especially on weekends. Food is good and service is great

Google
This is such a great spot in West Hollywood. Maintained as a real 50s style diner, with menu, interior and music to match. I have had some great meals here both breakfast and dinner, always fairly priced, the team there always look after you, welcome you in, never let your cup run dry but don’t bother you either, just the right attentiveness is given. It has a good feel, real mix of people use it from the early worker to the all night drinker, with an extensive menu from snacks to full meals, drinks and beers, every dish I have had has always been decent home cooked food at a fair price. They open long hours, I don’t think 24hrs anymore but they are open early and open late! Give them a go, it’s worth the experience if nothing else

Yelp
OH. MY. LORD. I don't know where to begin. Well, let's start with the valet. Not only was he quick, he was also curtesy and helpful! The food was FANTASTIC. I got the Classic Mel's Smash Burger. One of the best burgers I've ever had. The 3 other people with me got 2 waffles and French toast. They can be quoted saying "the best breakfast for dinner ever" when describing the food. The amazing food service was on par. Our waiter, Steve G., was fantastic. He was funny, energetic and kind. I don't think you could find a better server. Even the bus boys were amazing. The diner itself was also incredibly cool & clean. They have built in jukeboxes at every table. Which WORK BTW. All you need is 25 cents to play your favorite classic songs to the entire diner. Overall, 10/10 experience and will ABSOLUTELY be coming back again for seconds. Thank you all!

Yelp
Met a friend and her family who were visiting from out of town here for a late breakfast. We ordered the gluten free pancakes, scramble eggs, bacon and French toast. Food was tasty but not wow! Service was great! Server was attentive and kept refilling our coffee and water. Atmosphere is pretty cool. Sucks that the juke box did not work at our table. Kids were disappointed and it took our quarter. It was great that they have a parking lot especially being in such a busy area.

Yelp
I've been to this location a few times and I really do appreciate it. The food is very affordable for the area and there's a parking lot so parking is super easy! You sit yourself so you don't really have to wait on a table and even when I've gone on weekends the service is relatively fast! Their burgers are iconic but the sandwiches are really good too!! I also really like the decor and how the old iconic dinner ambiance. Would honestly definitely recommend for a late night snack or a quick bite!!!

Yelp
So much fun and open 24 hours so you can get your diner fix just about anytime of the day or night. There is so much movie memorabilia and cool facts around Mel's. It is really an iconic place. The staff was incredibly friendly and know their menu. Not sure what to get, ask and they will recommend a few items. I love patty melts and decided to give Mel's melt a try and it did not disappoint. The beef was flavorful and everything from the bread to the dressing just meshed well together. I chose potato salad as my side which was also tasty and fresh. My son got a pot roast/short rib dish with fresh mashed potatoes and veg and said it was so good he had to get it again during our visit (we we in the area few days). He also got a malt and said it was one of the best he has had. Mel's Staff is awesome, the ambience is fun and just overall great comfort food and feeling.

Yelp
Mel's Diner in Hollywood strikes the perfect balance between nostalgia and contemporary dining. The atmosphere is cozy, the staff is friendly, and the menu offers a fantastic mix of classic and modern dishes. From mouthwatering burgers to tempting vegan options, Mel's is a must-visit spot in Hollywood's food scene.
google avatar

Kyle J.

Yelp
Mel's is best when it's late and nothing else in the area is open so you resort to a diner. Not that this is a bad thing! But it's definitely only the spot for me, late night vibes. I typically like ordering a shake and fries, filling both salty and sweet que, and taking it easy with friends. This time i had ordered a black and white sundae, it was mis heard and she brought out a shake. We said something and then she brought out the sundae. Still not the right sundae but it really didn't matter at this point. Not mad, just wanted a sundae :) It's a diner guys, except what you expect. Also, this location is very Lana Del Rey influenced so check that out.

Yelp
The people here were friendly and so nice. And how can you beat $6 mimosas?? We just stopped here for a quick drink and a plate to share. We ordered a basic looking sandwhich, honestly forgot what it was, but it was tastyyy. Even the side salad tasted good for some reason even though I think it was basic, but I think I just really liked the dive vibes tho I will admit we sat outside vs indoors so maybe that doesn't count. Can't give anything lower than 5 stars because overall had a great experience with nothing negative.

Yelp
Came here for dinner on Sunday night and walked in and sat ourselves. Booths are very cute but they have the bar and non booth tables available as well. Our waitress was very kind and extremely laid back: I loved it. The menu has a good chunk of each thing: burgers and sandwiches mainly with desserts, drinks including alcohol, hotdogs, and more. We ordered and while we waited for our food we queued a song from the jukebox. Only costs a quarter and to move the panels there is a gear near the top you move left and right to see each panel. Once you find a song you type in your number selection and it will send it to the main jukebox and you will hear it throughout the restaurant! The food came out hot and delicious; wasn't a very long wait for it either. Garlic fries were delicious with true Parmesan flakes on top and well seasoned. The sunset burger was a little salt lacking, however, I really appreciated they put the extra toppings: lettuce, tomato, onion, on top so you can choose to add or not. Reuben was delicious and good portions for each plate that we both had to take boxes home. We came here because of the show with Guy diners, drive ins, dives, and it didn't disappoint!!

Yelp
I'm on tour with New Kids On The Block. So, I decided to find a 24 hour diner. Came across Mel's Diner in West Hollywood, which advertises 24 hour service on Friday and Saturdays. Two men sitting at the breakfast bar, one man emptying the trash and a security guy in a conversation with their customers. He speaks up as I walk through the doors and says the restaurant isn't open until 8am. I draw his attention to their 24 hr open sign hanging in front of the building, to which he says, that's only for Friday and Saturdays. Bear in mind, it is Friday at 4:45am when I walk through the unlocked doors, all light are on and two men are eating. Well, I call BS!! The cook obviously didn't want to prepare a meal for a 66 year old man on pulling up on his bike. Absolutely unkind and unprofessional on their part to lie to me. J/S

Yelp
First time here & I'll be back when I'm in the area! Tasty classic American breakfast without the massive portions, which I really appreciate. I ordered the avocado toast (jr.), turkey sausage, & roots juice. Every bite was a 10/10. My meal wasn't greasy at all, definitely rare in diners. Juices are made in-house!

Yelp
This is the famous Mel's on Sunset. Yes, all the hype is true. This is a tasty place to stop. I just love their omelettes. They even let you BYO omelette for a few bucks more. So far, all of their omelettes are delicious. I definitely recommend this place; it's fun and has a throwback to the 50's diner look. The people are beyond friendly. This spot is open 24 hours on the weekend and late on other days. The preparation of the omelettes definitely varies with the different cooks, but they are always tasty and the best late-night omelette anywhere nearby.

Yelp
Hey, don't look at me! It wasn't my idea to go to Mel's when Jamie W. and I were down in WeHo. We were leisurely strolling on Sunset when we noticed every popular eatery had lines out to the sidewalk. Jamie then pointed to the familiar sign and Googie-style building and exclaimed we should have lunch here. I didn't protest and bit the bullet, which was not on the menu. OK, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. This one still looked like the faux-50's diner all the others used to look like. They still had production stills from "American Graffiti" on the walls. I'd bet 90% of their customers have never heard of the movie. We also noticed a lot of corpulent diners in the place which surprised us since we thought LA outlawed overweight people. Jamie had a hankering for the $15.50 Albacore Tuna Sandwich served on sourdough toast with a side of fries (photo: https://bit.ly/44ffJiP). Nothing unusual about the execution and certainly hard to screw up. I had the $19.25 Cobb Salad, also acceptably filling and nothing extraordinary (photo: https://bit.ly/3QOHrQm). Im guessing it's the same all-American diner grub they served 26 years ago when they opened this location. Right? FOOD - 3 stars...what you expect is what you get AMBIANCE - 3 stars...Rock Around the Clock! SERVICE - 3.5 stars...the veteran servers make sure to address customers' needs when the youngsters forget TOTAL - 3 stars...c'mon, it's Mel's...what do you expect? RELATED - Exploring LA? Yelp
We've been several times but I've yet to write a review. Today my son got mac and cheese and garlic parm fries, and I got a BLT (with extra lettuce and tomatoes) and onion rings. Our server Lily was super helpful and friendly, as I let her know we were trying to rush and get to a movie. Super great service. My son gave his food a 4.5 and I'm giving my onion rings and BLT a 5. This BLT was made with care. Look!

Yelp
Sooooo oily!!! Everything was extremely oily. The fried chicken was pretty good. It had a nice extremely crispy batter, but the taste of the batter was a bit off. I can't explain the flavor, but I didn't care for it much. Overall it was oily too. The fries were good, but oily. The onion rings were good, but oily. The Sunset Burger was good, but even that tasted oily. I barely tasted the avocado too. For a $24 burger you would think that they would load up the avocado. We got take out. They told us it would be 10-15 minutes, but we were waiting forever. It was really frustrating. It took 40 minutes to get our takeout food HAPPY BURGERING!

Monica F.

Yelp
Pros: Open all night weekends! Kind host, server, door guy who was concerned that my car was on the street and urged me to use the free valet. Food and drinks came so fast. Wine was simple and refreshing, friends polished off their wings and omelet, short rib grilled cheese was craveable. Got a split order of sweet potato and regular fries and the server (latina woman) cheerfully accommodated my friend's over-the-top requests for additional dipping sauces. Overall one of the few relaxing places in LA. Also, saw Adam Sandler her eonce. Cons: I was a little surprised by the prices, and short rib could have been cut more thinly in the sandwich.
google avatar

Ann P.

Yelp
I love this place. It's such a homey old school diner vibe. Service is always great and the staff is always super friendly. They really make it feel like an old school diner. Super hard working staff. As far as the good goes, I always order the steak and then regret it because it's so tough... and then I question why I ordered it every single time. But steak and eggs are one of my favorite things so I end up ordering it every time. I do wish portions were larger like a true diner. Definitely order their pancakes as a side though!
google avatar

Kami S.

Yelp
Wanted an old time Hollywood diner breakfast. Got a bacon egg and cheese on sour dough breakfast sandwich with hash browns side, my partner got the "Hangover" omelet with chili and cheese, everything hit the spot. This place has whatever you crave for breakfast, omelets, pancakes, avocado toast, all the classics. The only surprise was the coffee was $5, I would have gotten the free refills.
google avatar

Kelly J.

Yelp
First time at this iconic spot on Sunset Blvd. We came in late night after a show at the Roxy for what can only be deemed at a naughty midnight snack. I had a BLT and husband had a patty melt, both with massive plates of perfectly cooked fries. The food was good, but it was the service that really won me over. Everyone from the valets, the the security guard to the servers were so nice and helpful. It was a really nice surprise, which was rather unexpected. While this would not be on a rotation for me as I suspect it's not exactly healthy, we had a good time and would come back again if we wanted a late night bite. Clean restrooms, plenty of valet parking for free. The only suggestion is I have a make your juke boxes at the tables take credit cards. Who carries cash, much less quarters?
google avatar

Chiji A.

Yelp
I love it here! I had a green juice that they made for me that was so good that it made my toes curl... I also had a veggie impossible burger that was, simply put, outstanding... The sweet potato fries were so sweet that it tastes like candy. And the apple pie a la mode is perfection! Thank you for your gracious hospitality. I enjoyed everything!
google avatar

Lawrence H.

Yelp
It's a tourist trap for Europeans, but when there's nothing else open you could get a shake. The staff are nice, no fault to them. The prices just don't justify what you're getting. The history of the place makes you want to love it. You really try to love it. But you must accept the fact it's a tourist trap.
google avatar

Janae F.

Yelp
Seriously this one of my late-night, anytime gems in the city. I really don't want TikTok to get ahold of this one because if so, I'm afraid the prices and wait times would dramatically increase. Me no like that! They have security at the door who greet you, open the door for you, and guide you to the host area. They already start you off feeling like you're a celeb! Then wait staff who take your orders are always so warm and welcoming and go over and beyond to tend to your needs, even if they have a really busy night. They are open 24hrs and oftentimes they have to deal with some drunk and unruly people, so please try to show them some grace when waiting your table. I also love that they have complimentary valet on site! Nowadays establishments do anything to get a quick buck from you, but not Mel's! Please be sure to tip the attendant because they are just as friendly and courteous. Our last one greeted us with a smile and even opened and closed the doors for us. The decor in Mel's is that of the 1950's and I love restaurants that tend to keep the aesthetic that they started with. They even have old juke boxes on each table that you can put a quarter in and play an old school song on the loud speakers. How cool and retro is that? Lastly, but certainly not least...the food is DELISH! Like seriously, I have had dreams about it and if I wasn't so far, I'd go there more often. But every time I go there with my best friends, we get one thing and one thing only: The Short Rib Grilled Cheese Sandwich. It has braised short ribs, jack, swiss and cheddar cheese all on grilled-to-perfection sourdough bread. Think of it as the Rolls Royce of grilled cheese sandwiches and this girl right here loves her a childhood comfort food! The next time you are in Mel's, do yourself a favor and try it. You will savor every juicy bite and be tempted to order another to take home. Lol Thank you Mel's for always coming through for us when we have those late night cravings after having a fun night on the town! Please never change the customer service, food, or prices!

Yelp
Super cute diner on sunset strip -- and a parking lot! The waiter was super nice and friendly and the atmosphere and ambience was wonderful on an early Saturday evening. The food portions are big. I got the sunset burger and fries and my sister got the Mel famous burger and sweet potatoe fries and they were both so good. Honestly probably the best burger I've ever had - it was juicy and everything was so fresh. The beef patty was grilled well done for me and it was such a satisfying meal. Their milkshakes are also really really good. Highly recommend The Oreo milkshake! There's ample seating indoor and some outdoor and the interior is all decked out like the 80s, each booth has a juke box and it's super cute. Recommend coming here if you're search for some comfort food!! The menu is also massive and 24 hours so lots of options. It is however on the pricier end

Yelp
Whenever we have visitors from Germany who come for the first time to LA, this is one of the gems we go to - most likely for breakfast. I always order four different items from the menu, put them in the middle and we share them family style - like hash brown with bacon and eggs, one avocado toast, an omelet, and of course a stack of pancakes - and everyone is always happy. Always. I see some mixed reviews - and I wonder what the people expect. This is not the Ritz. And yes, I had by far more spectacular breakfasts. Actually, one of the best in LA we ever had was in the "Pretty Woman Hotel" Beverly Wilshire, which was unbelievable in every way - the check was $500. For four. And no, we did not have caviar or the really crazy stuff. This is Mel's. An iconic place that is worth going to. It gives you a classic authentic American breakfast you would expect at any American diner. And does it well. Would I do a 30+ min detour just to eat here (mandatory in my rating scheme to achieve 5 stars). I just did :-) And would always do again. So if you rate places like this, stay reasonable. I am really scared that we kill iconic places like this.

Andrea H.

Yelp
Diner food, but in the best way possible. Everyone got a burger, fries, and milkshake. A favorite classic when visiting LA!!
google avatar

Christine B.

Yelp
Great diner! I had a Ceasar salad, onion rings and chili! I didn't take a picture because I was starving. They have bottomless iced coffee so I'm all jacked up now. They still have little juke boxes at each table.... But you better have quarters! Super cute place. Great for tourists and locals alike! Good food and badass location! You really can't go wrong here. Next time I'm getting the Lana Del Rey milkshake! This location is as classic as the menu. Servers are super nice, we enjoyed our time here and will be back! Inside and outside dining.

Yelp
This location of Mel's Drive - In has a great outdoor area, great people watching on the Strip, I enjoy sitting there and watching the action. I have been here for a slice of pie late at night after a show or for dinner, the food isn't amazing, it is decent, but it is always lively, fun decor, OK service. It is more about the location. That being said, we tried their New York steak and Chicken Breast dinners, just OK. I'd better go with a patty melt and fries or their Drive In Melburger. For drinks, they have beers (not the best selection, but still) or a milkshake could be fun, they make them good here. Great for a late night breakfast, always fun if you are on Sunset. Prices are getting a tad higher. But this is my favorite Mel's location in LA!
google avatar

Zan L.

Yelp
I have been eating at Mel's for many years, both in Los Angeles, and when I lived in San Francisco. In terms of the classic American diner, it's always a solid option. Personally I don't prefer it for breakfast, but it's a great option for lunch or dinner. Usually I get the tuna melt, but I have tried many other dishes here as well. This location can get quite busy and parking can be tougher than other parts of town, although it's a really fun environment to have a meal. There were two very well-known celebrities in the restaurant at the same time as us for a early Sunday dinner. Every booth was taken and our meal was very good. This time I got my traditional tuna melt with avocado, as well as a butterscotch milkshake, and really devoured both of them. I would recommend to anyone who is a fan of the traditional American diner, or is looking for a quick casual meal. It is a bit more expensive another diners, but it's also a lot better than other places like Norms.

Yelp
Fun place we love to go when we come to Hollywood. We always see a well-known/famous person. Play a few times on the juke box that is at our table. Yummy milkshakes!
google avatar

Karla M.

Yelp
Haven't been to this dinner in a while but, since we had family in town from out of state we figured we would take them to a spot with a big menu so there is something for everyone and with some history of Hollywood. We got there and there was a 30 min wait just to order food because they had a big catering order to tend to. We waited about an hour for food and once we got our food we dug in! The nachos were very good, the smash burger was one of the best I've had in LA. We all were very satisfied and the waitress was so nice she even gave us a discount on the bill since we waited so long for our food to come. Definitely going back for that burger soon.

Jamel C.

Yelp
I usually come here and get the grilled cheese fries combo. I ordered this last week and it was more full. The fruit was fresh. The meal was fresh. Today my potatoes were undercooked. I had only received one scoop if that of potatoes. My fruit was old, it was barely edible. Not to mention that this was a $20 breakfast. I am truly disappointed. It's actually ruined my day and I lost money. I could barely eat some of the food.
google avatar

Jim B.

Yelp
There's a big neon sign surrounded by flashing lights outside this establishment that says "OPEN 24 HOURS'. Well, they close on Tuesdays at midnight. Yelp says they're open until 4am. Lies, nothing but lies!

Kelsey L.

Yelp
Honestly the food was bomb, the atmosphere was bomb, this is a late night must see if you're craving late night diner food. Obviously this is not fine dining, you need to know what you're getting into, but if you want late diner food then 5/5 bomb bomb bomb

Yelp
Best burger ever i loved it soooo much. This is my favorite place because you can stay long and work if you need to. Great if you work from home.

Yelp
I've always loved Mel's when I'm craving a French dip sandwich and Oreo milkshake. It is the best environment, best staff, and great food. But honestly, the heart of this restaurant is a lovely incredible staff member named Molly. She makes everyone feel like family and has a heart of gold. Thanks for making our visit extra special!

Yelp
Great casual experience. The ambiance is very nostalgic and aesthetically pleasing! Classic 50's style diner complete with jukebox players at every table and a large one at the entrance. There are security guards at the entrance due to late night hours. The servers are very sweet. I went with a friend because they have special Lana Del Rey milkshakes and 2 pages of Lana Del Rey (and 1 Rob Grant) in all of their jukeboxes. Not every tabletop jukebox works so you may have to move seats multiple times but it's only 25¢ per play so just bring a few extra dollars just in case. The onion rings here are SUPERB. I tried the Lana Del Rey Nutella and banana shake it was so good!

Yelp
(December 2023) After spending the day touring SoFi Stadium (Friday Dec 22), my wife and I were hungry enough for an early dinner. I decided we should go visit a Mel's Drive-In. We rarely order the same thing, but we both got the Mel Burger. We also ended dinner with a strawberry milkshake. Our server, Gabino, was very personable, which we loved! Although we went out of our way and were hit with LA traffic to and from, I was so glad we came here!

Yelp
3 for the food. Uncooked burgers. Fries were OK. Cesar salad was OK. Dressing seemed watered down & sweet. 2 for the service. Ignored us most of the time. Asked for water, didn't bring refills. Had to ask another server. Seemed unfriendly. For the $$, go somewhere else. Do not recommend.

Yelp
Been living in LA for years but haven't been to Mel's drive in until today. Had such a nice experience like classic diner food pretty good but the service was so amazing. Such great vibes and perfect diner experience. Loved the mimosas they have orange, cranberry, & pineapple and whoever made my drinks I wish I formally got his name but he was sooo sweet and made me a special mimosa not sure what it was maybe a mix of all 3? so good :) Will def be going back

Yelp
Let's go to back to the past, enjoy the point of many grandparents went when they were young. The restaurant bus originally 50's, the vibe and comfort food is great, and the brunch there should be a good memory for tourists or not, don't forget your pic with a milkshake! The price vis average of other. My sister in law and her friend loved there. I loved to see many locals catch up with friends Sunday morning. It is my L.A

Yelp
Most people are surprised when I share that American Graffiti is one of my favorite films. While the Mel's used in the filming of the movie was not a real operating location that stayed open once shooting concluded, I've always wanted to visit a Mel's. After finishing some sightseeing and shopping in LA not far from The Grove and Farmer's Market, my parents and I decided to stop in for a bite. This location is on the Sunset Strip and isn't too far from the new Fred Segal store. They have their own parking lot off to the side and if you get there when it isn't a peak time for dining, you can find a spot without too much issue. You're allowed to choose wherever you want to sit in the restaurant. I chose a booth by the window in the back on the right side of the restaurant. The walls have a lot of images and articles from local publications and vintage images of celebrities who dined at Mel's and stills from American Graffiti. Some of the booths have operating jukeboxes that take a quarter to play a song of choice. I came around Happy Hour, which is every day from 3-6 PM. Milkshakes are half price and most of their dishes are discounted from their original prices. Mom and I got chocolate shakes for our drinks. Dad and I got Mel Burgers, while Mom got the Happy Hour sliders with fries. (They do ask how you want your burger cooked but the sliders for Happy Hour are always cooked medium well.) Food didn't take long to arrive - maybe 10 minutes. True to the menu, the shakes are very thick - it takes a lot of effort to get it through a straw, but they're very good. Burgers were good and the fries were hot and crispy. Service was pretty good.

Yelp
Stopped here after our regular place was closed... and was promptly disappointed. The tomato soup and grilled cheese was very expensive and tasted canned and like plastic cheese. The chicken noodle soup was sad and was definitely canned as well. The jukebox was broken and after it ate our quarters the waiter was so rude about it saying "oh well, looks like it doesn't work. Can't do anything about that." Wouldn't come here again...

Yelp
Mel's drive in is an iconic LA diner! The food is excellent! Huge portions! Really good comfort food. Open 24hrs. Staff was kind! A tuff choice since a variety of great options! I would return again, and again

Yelp
went to the bathroom in the back and noticed what looked like to be rat droppings scattered near some boxes in the back hallway. Giant hole in the dry wall, that had been taped up some time previously, but now the tape had peeled off in sections. Hauled a** out of there. Thank god i hadn't ordered any food yet

Yelp
The food is remains the same as the year that we last went to. It's good, the staffs were nice. We also got a free bunny pancake We went on a Easter Sunday morning around 11am, it wasn't too busy yet. And it started to get busy by the end of our meal. It was good stopping by the place.

Yelp
This place has been mentioned in some movies before, which makes it a staple to visit. The service was super quick. Servers were amazing and friendly. The food is just standard diner food. Won't blow your mind. Definitely worth checking out at least once, but there's definitely better food around the area if you're looking for something fancier.

Yelp
Well I love this place because it reminds me of my childhood. Mel's Diner was one of my mom's favorite night time TV shows. So it's hard to say....don't order the chicken or mirmosas. I have been many times because of the location. It is close to most gigs I get. But this last time I ordered the fried chicken dinner and it was grosssssssss The chicken was over cooked seemed like in an air fryer. The chicken also had more breading than meat. As for the mirmosa which my friend and son ordered it was orange soda and cheap champagne. Sad.... 3 stars but still kiss my grits Mel....

Yelp
A traditional, satisfying, and delicious diner in the heart of everything that's happening on Sunset Blvd. Went to brunch and saw they were doing a promo for the bachelor, free milkshakes and photo op, they do stuff like this rather frequently, but it was still cool. Even on a busy sunday, we were sat, seen, ordered, and ate in a very efficient manner without feeling rushed. The food is ALWAYS good, I recommend breakfast at any diner, but you do you. Fresh, consistent, definitely a place that has my heart

Yelp
I came in for brunch with my friend and we received excellent service from Gabrielle, whatever you're paying her you should double it. The mimosas were good and the patio was really nice and great for people watching.

Yelp
Tried Mel's short rib grilled cheese and I was not disappointed. The bread was perfectly toasted and the blend of cheeses were delicious. I had fries for my side. They serve generous portions. I split a chocolate milkshake that was exceptional as well. I give this place 5 stars because the environment was laid back and the food was fantastic.
