16 Top Chinese Soup Dumplings to Try in NYC - Eater NY

"In newer Chinese food destination Forest Hills, an alum of soup dumpling stalwarts like Joe’s and Nan Xiang Xiao Long Bao opened his own restaurant on Austin Street in 2018, bringing his soup dumpling prowess with him. Owner-chef Xueling Zhang is known for stand-out versions of both a classic pork and a pork with crab meat. It’s counter-service and doesn’t have a ton of seating, but it’s already a local hit." - Robert Sietsema, Stefanie Tuder, Erika Adams

This is looks like your typical neighborhood Chinese food place from the outside but it's so much more than that. It looks nice inside and has a good amount of seating. The service was very good, they were very knowledgeable about items in each dish. We ordered the tofu pudding as an appetizer, very unique flavor!! Very savory and delicious! Also ordered the vegetable noodle mushroom soup, along with the scallion noodle. Food was very good at a great value.

You have no idea how much I love the food here!!!!! I’ve been here at least 5 times and these pictures are from all different times I’ve been here because I really want to love it! Unfortunately the service is just so bad. Please note that I am not a picky customer. I never ask for alterations or substitutes to my food, I always tip well and I always say please and thank you. I’ve given this place so many chances because I really do love the food so much! The service is just so bad. I feel like I’m bothering the staff by just ordering and being there. Every time I go though, it’s always the same two waiters so I also think they are just burned out. I totally understand that but unfortunately I do have deduct points for that as a fair review as a customer. I still strongly suggest you support this place because the food really is amazing. Perhaps take out is a better option than dinning in though.

Great place. Definitely off the main strip which is nice since it’s more of relaxed and quiet atmosphere. Food was genuine and delicious. We had pork soup dumplings, they were soooo good. They also serve green jasmine tea which was also refreshing. The pork buns were my absolute favorite. I asked for chili paste and once I added that it was everything I needed. Great spot l, great service hope to return again soon!

The food was amazing. We couldnt choose, so we basically got one of everything. Absolutely loved the scallion potato cakes with beef and the soup dumplings with crab meat. The food comes out as it's ready and all of the employees there were so nice and welcoming. They gave us tips for keeping out food warm while we were finishing each dish. The only tough part is that space for seating is very limited, be prepared to wait for a spot on the weekend (potentially standing outside). You could also order out worst case.

FLAVORFUL, HOT, FAST, AUTHENTIC The pepper fish soup is excellent!! Amazing flavors, spicy, served HOT. Very large portion for the price. Enough to feed 2, maybe even 3 people. I had so much leftover to take home. Very generous amounts of white fish, eenoki mushroom, and sprouts in a clear peppercorn broth that was perfectly done. I was very impressed by the quality of the food. The business appears to be family owned, the service is excellent. Casual atmosphere, lots of neighborhood customers. Highly recommend.

Wonderful restaurant offering an authentic take. There are a large number of items on the menu. All of what we tried were flavorful and on point. The shiitake with Bok choy was delicately done, but while simple was exhausting taste. The cumin lamb had the right amount of cumin flavor and the lamb was not overpowered by it. The dumplings may not be for everyone (as the soup ones are pork based). The chicken ones were ok, but if you are used to Nepalese style momo’s obviously these will be very different. Prices can be a little high when compared to other restaurants, but worth it in my opinion. They followed COVID related measures and we felt safe. Great experience overall!

Everything we ordered was good. The pork soup dumplings was good but lack the traditional rich soup flavor. Don't get me wrong, still very tasty food. I will come back again.

Memories of Shanghai just moved to their new location with wider space and more seats. The new decor looks much cleaner, brighter and cozier than the old one. Customers need to place their orders online via scanning the QR code. The wait was pretty bad about 40 minutes for a 5-items order and the system was really unstable that the owner couldn’t find our order due to the lack of information on the printed receipt. We had Shanghai Sticky Rice ShaoMai, Shrimp Dumpling, Pan Fried Pork Bun, Scallion Pancake with Beef and Pork Ribs /w Sweet & Sour Sauce to share with 3 people. The food was pretty delicious with decent portion. However, it’s overall too greasy especially for the pork bun. It’s still a perfect place when we are eager for dim sum or Shanghai cuisine. Congrats to their moving and we will continue to support them once in a while.
