California’s Mendocino Farms Opens at Rice Village in July | Eater Houston

"Opening Thursday, July 18 at 11 a.m., this Rice Village outpost is the first of four planned local locations from the California-based salad-and-sandwich shop. The menu emphasizes lunch-friendly fare — Italian-style hoagie, turkey club, tuna melt and a pork belly banh mi — along with salads like an avocado-and-quinoa superfood mix and greens topped with chicken and prosciutto. Ingredients are sourced from regional farms, and meats are humanely raised and free from hormones and antibiotics. Additional area locations are planned for Uptown Park this fall, The Star in downtown this winter, and a Heights opening in 2020." - Alaena Hostetter

California’s Mendocino Farms Will Debut Sustainable Salads and Sandwiches in Rice Village | Eater Houston

"An L.A.-born sandwich-and-salad shop known for responsibly sourced California ingredients is opening its first location outside the Golden State in Rice Village, replacing Nao Ramen and slated to debut in 2019. The concept centers on salads and sandwiches built with responsibly raised meats, plus vegan and gluten-free options, and blends Americana classics—tuna melts, BLTs, and roasted chicken sandwiches—with Asian and Italian twists like chicken and pork belly bánh mì and tempeh or prosciutto-and-mozzarella sandwiches. The brand highlights its “artisan” partners, sourcing bread, salumi, and poultry from humane, sustainable, family-owned operations in California." - Alaena Hostetter

I like to visit Houston’s Rice Village. The small shops are quaint, and the eateries are just right for an afternoon lunch or dinner. My most recent Sunday afternoon visit to Rice Village included a stop at Mendocino Farms, a deli style eatery. The emphasis at Mendocino Farms is on healthier alternatives. They serve assorted sandwiches, salads, and soups. The options include such tasty sandwich choices as Chicken Pesto, Chimichurri Steak & Bacon, The Farm Club, and others. The sandwiches are freshly prepared and yes, they have a very fresh, wholesome taste. One option I recommend is the one- half combo. It’s a great idea when your appetite leans toward the moderate side. With this option, you get a half sandwich and either a deli salad or bowl of soup. I paired my Chicken Sandwich with a bowl of tomato soup and it was excellent. There are several vegan options and if you have kids, there is a menu made just for them, too. Another thing to love about Mendocino Farms is the beverages. Once again, they stick with the healthy theme and they offer several house- made drinks like Guava Lemonade, Get Your Greens, Pomegranate Mint Lemonade, and others. This is certainly better than the usual soft drink, and the drinks match well with most any food you order. With the service, it’s efficient and well- organized. You place your order at the counter, get yourself a self- serve drink, then choose a table. You then scan the code on your table and enter the number on your receipt. The staff will then deliver your food to your table when it’s ready, which should be less than 10 minutes. There is indoor seating and outdoor seating. I recommend the latter, if the weather is nice. I love a quick, tasty lunch and Mendocino Farms is an excellent choice for quickness and food that satisfies. The fresh taste of the food, the healthier drink options, and the efficient, friendly service make this the perfect option for an afternoon lunch or dinner in Houston’s Rice Village area.

Google
They consistently under-fill my soup bowl when I place an online order. It’s often not even halfway full. Whether I order a regular or a large, I expect the container to be filled close to the top. This location noticeably skimps on portions, especially compared to other Mendocino Farms locations where my soup is always filled properly. Please improve your portioning customers deserve consistency.

Google
Nice vegan options, however, it could be way better. There is no vegan option in the kids menu for example. It is very weird to see beef and dairy options at the same time you can watch a huge cow statue... the cognitive dissonance is palpable. Anyway, it was the most vegan-friendly restaurant in the area at least.

Google
We stopped in today for lunch after deciding to give it a try. Hubby and I both ordered a half sandwich and soup. I think mine was called the Farm Club, and a chicken soup. My food was very good, better than I expected. Everything was fresh and nicely cooked. The soup was flavorful and delicious. The patio in the front was shady and inviting. I’d definitely come here again. Also, the manager was very kind and took good care of us. Highly recommended.

Google
I’ve been to a lot of Mendocino’s around the US. The food is great…. But something is very special about this location, and it’s definitely due to the employees! Tonight Makyle, Savannah, and Julian went above and beyond to make my dining experience exceptional! They’re so kind and attentive. Best hospitality skills I’ve seen in a long time. Thank you, and see you all soon!

Google
AMAZING FOOD AND SERVICE!!!! This is a MUST TRY place in Houston. The manager Frank is AMAZING, he is very upbeat, friendly, and welcoming. The rest of the staff is super nice and friendly as well. Clean and “aesthetic” space with lots of seating. We will be coming back to try the rest of the menu. LOVED this place!

Google
I absolutely love, love their salads and sandwiches!! Every visit feels like such a treat. I can’t recommend this place enough!

Yelp
I love this place so I had to stop in for some lunch. They offer both indoor and patio seating as well as street and garage parking near. Service was quick and my food was made perfectly. One day I'll venture out but for now the turkey avo salsa Verde sandwich with pomegranate mint lemonade has my heart and my tastebuds. Give it a try if youre in the area.
google avatar

William L.

Yelp
Crunchy wrap salad and kale apple salad were tasty. Limited time offer California Golden State Cobb was good, though i regretted opting for extra protein. You don't need it with the hardboiled egg and generous bacon allotment that come along as standard equipment. Service was a bit slow but friendly. The wait was mostly in the preparation, wan indicator that they're making things fresh. Ambiance definitely 2020s with prominent online order area and Cafe style bar seating.

Yelp
My friend and I had an early dinner here around 5:15 pm on Thursday. She had been there before but it was my first time. She parked in a nearby lot for $3 and I did the Rice Village complimentary 2 hr parking garage with an easy 2 minute walk to the restaurant. It was not overly busy at the time and I liked how the menu was on a large display before you go to the ordering counter. The staff person who took our order was very nice. I got the sandwich combo with the turkey avo salsa verde & basil pesto shells as a side. My friend got the prosciutto & chicken with a chip bag & mango orange sparkling water can. The drink station is self serve and I saw alot of cool homemade drinks like guava lemonade & pomegranate mint lemonade which I need to try next time. You choose your own seating and scan the QR code on the table to enter your receipt number. The dining area was very cool and nicely decorated with a rope like light structure running down the middle ceiling. There was also a kid friendly table area too. I think I also saw kids eat free on Thursdays. The food came out pretty quickly & we proceeded to devour the sandwiches. My turkey avo had so much flavor and the sourdough bread was perfectly crispy and warm. I even forgot to use my salsa verde dip which had a good little spice if you need more of a kick to the sandwich. I really enjoyed it and definitely need a whole sandwich next time. The pesto shells pastas were delicious and was a filling side option without feeling overly stuffed. My friend similarly enjoyed and ate her whole sandwich. It was a cool place that I would definitely come back soon for!

Yelp
Delicious easy salad! They have hand crafted drinks also that were SO good I recommend trying them all! They bring the food right to your table, there's QR codes on the tables to let them know where you're seated. The inside was clean and comfy, lots of seating to chose from
google avatar

Yelp
For a Sandwich Market, they have an amazing salad! Beyond the bread is the Avocado & Quinoa Superfood Ensalada - vegetarian (vegan without cheese), crunchy, savory, and smoky in a chipotle vinaigrette. Also noteworthy for their specials, where kids eat free on Thursdays! Feeling better in every day, in every way - mission achieved!

Yelp
I had heard of this restaurant for a while, but had not been able to try it until recently. It was definitely worth the wait! The menu looked full of great options, and I went with the avocado and quinoa superfood salad. It was so good! The salad was extremely filling and contained, as expected, a generous amount of avocado. The spicy dressing added a pleasant flavor and the quinoa incorporated throughout was delicious. In addition to this, In got the curry quinoa side dish, and was amazed. It was so flavorful and such a fun and unexpected combination. The portion size made it large enough to be a main dish as well. The ordering process was easy and so was pickup, with everyone being pleasant in the lovely restaurant setting. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Salads or sandwiches or sides, everything is GOOD. I'm a huge fan of their salads, but I got to try their sandwiches for the first time, and it slapped. I shared the banh mi with a friend, and it's not like a typical banh mi, but it still has a similar flavor profile and includes the staple ingredients like the Vietnamese kimchi. The meat was flavorful and tender, and the ingredients all together just complemented each other well. We also got a side of spicy curried couscous, which comes served cold. The spice was subtle, but the curry flavor was prominent. The texture was unique. It was good, but I'd love to try another side! The workers are extremely kind and attentive! The inside is always so lovely. This particular location is in rice village, so parking can be a bit challenging when the area is busy. I ended up parking in the garage with free 2 hour parking.

Yelp
I went to Mendocino Farms on Morningside Dr. 2 days in a row (Oct. 1 and 2)while staying at the Westin at the Medical Center. The food is delicious and the staff is amazing. On the 1st visit Andrea G., (Check # 87), was friendly and knowledgeable about all the sandwich options. She helped me merge 2 sandwiches based on my husband's likes and dislikes. I promised her I'd be back the next day because of the great food and service. My husband is a fan now. On October 2, the great service continued with Deyshinna (Ck. #103) who took my order. I mentioned the day before's service and she asked who my server was. I promised I'd check my receipt and write a review. It's our top sandwich destination in Houston. My first Mendocino Farms visit was in Mountainview, CA. I was happy to hear of their location in Houston. Their salads are incredible.

Yelp
Friend and I came here for lunch. We shared a meal with a sandwich and a bowl of soup. The sandwich is full of flavors and the breading is crunchy on the outside and super soft on the inside. The soup was also just as delicious. It paired with the sandwich really well. The sandwich also came with a bag of chips, but we didn't eat that. The table and chairs are pretty clean, but I think the chair I had was a little bit wobbly. The waitress checked on us a few times to make sure we're OK. There is also an outside patio so I believe this place may welcome dogs. Parking out front is paid by meter or you could park for free for two hours in the garage or street parking.

Yelp
Came here after solid core and it was just what I needed light and delicious and came out very quickly. Came here on a Friday at noon and no wait! I got the sandwhich combo it was half a chicken caprese and the side of kale apple rainbow salad! I would definitely come back
google avatar

Morgan F.

Yelp
They must be having sourcing issues. You used to be able to get a full sandwich and small deli side for about $15. Now a single sandwich is about $17 without any deli side and the medium side is about $6. My usual go to is the chicken prosciutto and it has literally no chicken and no almonds. Picture to show how much chicken was on my sandwich
google avatar

Karen 2.

Yelp
the chicken sandwich was good. the service was fast and the guava lemonade is good. they have indoor and outdoor seating. 4.5 rounding up to 5
google avatar

Yelp
The location in Rice Village is very convenient, with free 2hrs parking nearby. The restaurant is very clean and nicely decorated. There are indoor and outdoor seating, and an area for kids to enjoy their time (note: 'Kids eat free' on Thursdays; family friendly place!). Staff is very kind. Overall the food here is very FRESH and TASTY! Among new great Chef's creations tried: the Sweet Peach & Goat Cheese Salad and the Street Corn Chicken Sandwich (with a nice spicy note), delicious. Among the fix menu, highly recommend the PERUVIAN STEAK sandwich, Thai Mango Salad and Avocado & Quinoa Superfood Ensalada.

Yelp
Best Friend Day promotion was the perfect opportunity to visit Mendocino Farms and try items on the menu that I never got around to. I ordered the Peruvian Steak Sandwich, it came dripping in aji marinate and herb aioli. Macaroni salad that came with the sandwich created the perfect paring of savory and creamy. Another great sandwich added to my collection! The Chicken Parm Dip Sandwich fell short, the Mendo Krispies was missing that crunch everyone raved so much about and Pomodora sauce was just average. My tastebuds were begging for flavors and textures after having that 10/10 Peruvian Steak Sandwich. Kale and Apple Rainbow Salad was a miss, I might have received an old container because it did not taste good. Mendocino Farms is still one of favorite places to grab a quick bite. The menu items are created with fresh and quality ingredients and I've yet to try it all. I'll slowly make my rounds, but in the mean time I'll be thinking about that Peruvian Steak Sandwich.

Yelp
I ordered Mendocino Farms for lunch last week for the first time. Whoooeeeeee. The sandwich I got was great (the not fried chicken) and portion excellent. But that's not why I have it on the brain. The sides slap harder than the Big bang. The addition of the cheese and sun dried tomatoes to the pesto pasta takes it over the top. It's a basic dish that is always good, but this is great. The dill pickle potato salad is something I never knew I needed in my life and now I'm pretty sure nothing will measure up (honorable mention to Bubba's jalapeno potato salad). Dear folks at Mendocino, I desperately need the recipe, or like a vat delivered weekly. Can't wait to try the rest of the menu and visit in person.
google avatar

Jennifer W.

Yelp
Sadly, it's just not how it used to be. I still love the vibe of the place and the freshness of the ingredients, but I was heartbroken to hear that sandwich meals will no longer come with a choice of a side but rather generic small chip bags. I asked whether it was possible to pay a bit of surcharge to substitute the chips for a side, but the staff informed me that it will just follow the individual side prices as indicated on the menu, meaning the same meal I used to get at around $15 will now be $20. I can't quite wrap my head around the drastic price increases yet, and I might not be the only one given the mostly empty space I arrived into during peak meal times on Saturday. I hope management will reconsider this menu change and bring back their loyal customer base before they're gone for good.
google avatar

Mahwish S.

Yelp
I got one of my favorite sandwiches for lunch, the chimichurri steak. It comes with sea salt chips. I also tried the pickle & dill potato salad and that was yummy too!
google avatar

Yelp
Mendocino farms has a spacious amount of seating indoors and out, and our party of 12 chose to sit outside and enjoy the weather. The staff kindly accommodated our request to store a large cake for the majority of the dinner and brought it out when we asked. The avocado and quinoa superfood ensalada (with added chicken for protein) was filling and tasty. My only suggestion for improvement is that the quinoa was a bit too hard and crunchy for several people in our group who ordered this salad, and difficult to eat for those with sensitive teeth.
google avatar

Stan M.

Yelp
Food is as good and service was good. A lot of tables were dirty. Food seemed fresh and healthy
google avatar

Yelp
I recently discovered Mendocino Farms after an event at Rice Village. The not so fried chicken sandwich changed my life, what a delicious meal! It's light, crispy and satisfying. The Thai sweet potato soup was also delicious. The food was ready fast and service was friendly. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone and everyone!
google avatar

Kristina K.

Yelp
I love going here for lunch! Such refreshing food and nice seating areas. The service is not very good though, you need to scan the table and enter ur receipt number to let them know where you are sitting. I went with my friend and they brought us the completely wrong order and we look around, a table is staring at us. It was their food that was brought to us. The second time I went with my mom, we were the only ones seated outside and they brought us again, someone else's food. The service staff are very nice and lovely, I just think the system of the scanning is flawed.
google avatar

Courtney C.

Yelp
Vibe- This location has a good amount of seating inside and a very nice patio kind of seating option outside! Customer service- Great! Food/drinks- I got the vegan banh mi sandwich and the spicy curried couscous, it was so good and light Parking- I parked for free in the parking garage next to the restaurant; the first 2 hours are free
google avatar

Paty T.

Yelp
My husband said the Avocado one was very good! My salad was really tasty. My daughter's sandwich was also very good and tasty. Sizes are good, not to big neither too small. We all ended up satisfied. We will be definitely back to this place! Food quality is good, fresh, and delicious.
google avatar

Ciara N.

Yelp
The food here is soooo good y'all. I've had the no fired chicken sandwich. It's soooog good. Today I tried the chicken pesto sandwich and it's also very good. Whoever consulted with this restaurant to make sandwiches did an amazing job. The Rainbow kale salad is my Fav. I always it. Today we tried the potato salad. And I didn't like it. The staff offered to get me another side if I wanted. I thought that was really awesome that they want us to enjoy our food and that they actually cared. Loved that. I def will be back here. As for parking: I parked at torches tacos and walk 1/2 block here. Parking is very easy here. I've never not been able to find a parking space in rice village :) everything was delicious y'all. I'll be back here for sure!!
google avatar

Yelp
Never disappoints!!! My fave salad spot! Not to mention ambiance is amazing. Customer service is exceptional. Tried them for the first time in Dallas. Found them here in HTOWN. RECOMMEND IT!

Yelp
I popped in Mendocino Farms today for a solo lunch - I was running errands and forgot to eat and found myself famished. Something about me - I'm a sandwich gorl, and I wanted something cool and fresh on this hot AF day. I ordered the combo - which was 1/2 sandwich and 1/2 soup or side - with the Farm Club and the potato salad. EDITED TO ADD: the manager (?) is super helpful and nice. Her name is Julienne. Shoutout to her! OMG - this sandwich was SO GOOD. The ingredients were fresh, the turkey was like actually pieces of shaved turkey breast, and the bread was perfect. Not to mention the avocado on it was legit and the aioli was delish. You can get it in small or large and just got small, thankfully, because it was a big boi. I would not be able to finish a whole sandwich. I sat on the patio where it's shaded and has music. It's a very chill environment, and there were patrons inside working on laptops too! I'm glad I checked this place out, I'll be back.
google avatar

Hongyu Y.

Yelp
Got the "Not So Fried" Chicken. It was pretty good and paired well with the mustard barbecue sauce that came with it! Good healthy alternative to fried chicken. It has a very chill vibe and they brought out the food pretty quickly.
google avatar

Taylor C.

Yelp
Overall really enjoy this place. Atmosphere: bright vibrant but chill restaurant. They have ample outside seating as well that looks nice and clean. The only thing that could be considered slightly Inconvenient is the parking. But typical for this area/rice village. It's very close to the 2-hour free parking garage though. Service: the service is always very nice and pleasurable. One thing about me, I'm always going to ask the staff their fav menu item. They always have good suggestions. Now...they are just a little slow (to me) but (besides the sides) they are making your food pretty fresh so..some delay is expected I supposed. Food: I LOVE the "Not So Fried" chicken sandwich. I can't seem to venture off from it because it's just SO good. The sides are decent as well. I've tried the potato salad and gotten chips w/ the sandwich. This last time they had a seasonal potato salad (Oaxacan) which was ok, just needed a little more salt. Overall...if not for any other reason than the nice atmosphere and that darn Not So Fried Chicken sandwich...I definitely recommend.
google avatar

M N.

Yelp
I don't have a location super close to my house, but when I finally got the chance to try a new sandwich joint, the food was good. If you like sandwiches, come here, I think it's a step up from the normal cooperate fast food joints. They have a big menu of options that include sandwiches, salads, and interesting sides such as potato salad, dan dan noodle salad, etc. Usually, their establishments are decent sized with a lot of seating, some have outdoor seating, they have a lovely patio set up here. It's next to other eateries/ restaurants so it can be a busy place to go. Most of the parking here will require you to pay but they also have a garage. The first 2 hours are free to park, and it's super close to this Mendocino Farms as well.
google avatar

William T.

Yelp
One of my favorite sandwich places! I ordered the Chimichurri Steak & Bacon and Prosciutto & Chicken! The Chimichurri was packed with flavor with juicy steak to back it up, definitely a must try! The Prosciutto & Chicken was a delightful sandwich but wished it had a bit more sauce, but nonetheless enjoyed both! Service was amazing! Quick and welcoming

S R.

Yelp
I'm giving 3 stars because it's still an amazing food place. They decided on not bringing back a summer favorite and replaced it with a peach sandwich... horrible..... I waited a year for the summer corn sandwich (which I purchased about 4-5 times a week last year) only to get disappointed when I saw it not coming back.. Replacing it with the peach sandwich was sinister .. I was rooting for y'all
google avatar

Lawrence V.

Yelp
This has been my favorite sandwich place , and usually I order the not so fried chicken sandwich. This time Ann recommended I try the Philly Shroom , and it was delicious. Everyone here is so nice, Ann always greets you with a smile. The place is always clean, and wholesome. Can't wait to try something else new.
google avatar

Priya R.

Yelp
We got lunch catering from them and the curried couscous was the best part! So delicious! I always come back just for the curried couscous. It was a huge hit at the office as well! We also got the quinoa crisps with the avocado salad that we ordered, which elevated the salad quite a bit! The "not so fried chicken" sandwich was not as great as I expected though and had more of a sweet/sour taste. I would definitely recommend the basil pesto chicken sandwich instead! Overall, great food that is clean and healthy! We will be ordering here again soon!
google avatar

Jane B.

Yelp
Love the salads here and the service. Even the containers keep your food in perfect balance-no spillage!
google avatar

Angela R.

Yelp
Great clean food.... Went with the crispy chicken and the kale soup... It was like a chicken salad with a crisp to it... All was delicious... Service was a little slow...
google avatar

Bogar V.

Yelp
The food is very fresh and tasty. The service is fast and there is options for everyone in the family. Good beer on tap. Relaxing to sit outside when the weather is nice
google avatar

Lauren I.

Yelp
Absolutely love the staff and their kindness. Love that one of the drinks available is green juice! It makes sense for the combo to be a medium sized side otherwise no point in getting it as it's only one half of the sandwiches. If you like the side more then it is worth
google avatar

Nina K.

Yelp
Unique takes on familiar favorites. I tried the chicken Parmesan sandwich. It was alright; I got the pasta salad as a side. Order at the counter, they've got space inside and out. Not memorable for me.

Yelp
One of my fav sandwich spots in Houston. I've tried 3 locations, and this is my favorite . Lively and lovely outdoor space. It's surrounded by some other legit spots to eat (i.e black walnut, Hamsa, Hopdoddy etc) and right around the corner you will find Heaven on earth aka Sephora and MAC store. Lol. Anyways.. They have some amazing sandwiches. You really cannot go wrong. But the chicken and prosciutto always gets me. I have also enjoyed the chicken caprese. But if I had to pick just one item to get from here...that SPICY CURRY COUSCOUS!!! I can eat it in bucketfuls. They need to patent it. Sooo delicious! Also, considering the location, really cheap eats! You can get a hefty sandwich, small side and a drink (maybe even a cookie) for just under $20. I'm not mad at it. I also believe they are better than Local...you know. Lol Final grade: Solid A Def on rotation.
google avatar

Annie B.

Yelp
The food here is absolutely delicious! I had the pork belly bahn mi with macaroni salad and my husband had the sweet heat crispy Thai chicken sandwich. Both were delicious and overall we will be back to try more food. Pros: food is fresh and service is quick. Friendly staff and nice inside and outside seating Cons: we only had one con when visiting this time. After ordering and sitting down we had a staff member bring us what was supposedly our food. The food that was put in front of us was completely wrong and we had to bring all the food back up to the counter to switch out for our order. Overall though once we got our correct order it was delicious and we will be back!

Yelp
Highly recommend venturing into this restaurant!! This place isn't your everyday basic Panera Bread sandwich. After running in Houston's humid heat, the last thing on my mind is to eat a sandwich, but my boyfriend and I are both huge foodies so we decided why not. Two runners walked into Mendocino Farms and left satisfied. The eccentric decor was beautiful to appreciate while the food invited our tastebuds on a culinary adventure. The Chimichurri Steak and Bacon was a symphony of ingredients in my mouth!! The caramelized onions paired with the steak and bacon was just heaven in a sandwich. I'm not fond of spicy foods, so I put the Chimichurri on the side and I removed the red jalapeños. My boyfriend had the Pork Belly Banh Mi and he raved about how delicious it was! We even sat in silence as we appreciated the flavor burst in our mouths LOL. The side dishes (not pictured) were the Thai Watermelon and Cucumber Salad and Spicy Curried Couscous. Both were a perfect combo for the Pork Belly Banh Mi especially if you've a liking for spicy foods! Do note that this place closes at 9 pm on the weekdays. We sat on the patio and we tried to get a to-go box for my sandwich but the doors were locked at 9:45 pm. I strategically wrapped my sandwich in a napkin as a result. Next time, I'll order my meal as to-go if I'm sitting at the patio just to be prepared. Overall, a fantastic experience and friendly service!

Yelp
I used to eat at this place for lunch when I lived in Los Angeles so I was really excited when it came to Houston. At first the sandwiches were similar to the California menu which allowed me to get my favorite sandwich (a study of heat) but I went two weeks ago and it wasn't on the menu. Nevertheless the new turkey option had a jalapeño flavor to it and it did the trick. I also tried the steak sandwich and it was good. To-go orders travel nicely and my order was ready on-time! The staff here is always nice. I do wish their sides had more variety but that isn't a deal breaker. Will continue to drop in when I want a sandwich and some nostalgia.
google avatar

Josh N.

Yelp
So first time trying this sandwich spot. I got the Turkey Avo Salsa Verde sandwich which I enjoyed, but got two sides and wasn't really that impressed. I got the spicy curried couscous and kale apple salad. Both of the sides flavor were off. I should have just got the chips. It is a decent sandwich shop with fresh ingredients.
google avatar

Roma B.

Yelp
Picked up their seasonal sandwich (hot honey peach and prosciutto sandwich) and side of Oaxaca potato salad. The sandwich was tasty, all the elements blended together well! The side salad was unique and flavorful too, but portion size was very small. Not sure if the sandwich and potato salad was worth $16, but still worth a try!

Yelp
Mendocino Farms never disappoints. The ingredients are always incredibly fresh, and the menu has the perfect balance of comfort and creativity. I usually go for the "Not So Fried" Chicken Sandwich or the Avocado & Quinoa Superfood Ensalada -- both are packed with flavor and leave you feeling great. The staff is friendly, the service is quick, and the vibe is casual but polished. You can tell they really care about quality and the customer experience. Whether it's a lunch meeting or a quick bite, Mendo is always a go-to.

Yelp
Came here on an Friday evening at around 6PM. It wasn't busy at all -- not a bad thing, just something I noticed. I got the prosciutto chicken, which I really liked! It was on a thin ciabatta roll with basil pesto, prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, and almonds. It was not something i would of thought to put together, but they all complemented each other so well. The almonds added a really nice texture to the sandwich. You order and pay at the register. There is street parking or complimentary 2 hour garage parking in the area. Seating is provided indoors and outdoors. They have a nice outdoor patio that they share with the other businesses. I didn't sit outside because it was cold. I didn't take notice if there were any heat lamps around. Overall, I was pleased with my visit here!

Yelp
Food: The menu had lots of good options; I ended up going with the Peruvian steak while my girlfriend got the Thai Mango Salad. The sandwich was very flavorful and the meat was not dry at all. The bread was definitely on the softer side, but personally I don't mind that. The Thai Mango Salad, while maybe a bit expensive for a casual salad, was large, filling, and delicious. My sandwich came with a side, and I was hoping to get the Watermelon Street Cart Salad. They were out, which was disappointing, but I went with the Oaxacan Potato Salad, which was surprisingly good as I don't typically like potato salad. Service: Service was polite and fast. You order at the counter and the food gets brought out to you after you scan a QR code and indicate which table you are sitting at. It was easy to use, but I was a bit curious why they opted for this over just taking a number for the table, as that would be easier and quicker. I could also see an older customer possibly having issues. Atmosphere: The decor inside was nice, and they played music. However, it wasn't too loud, so it was still easy to hear other people talk. The table was nice and clean, which isn't always the case at casual restaurants like this where you don't have a designated server. A bit expensive for a regular lunch pick, but would definitely come back!

Yelp
Beautiful interior and patio with healthy, delicious food! There's also a variety of menu options and there's something for everyone; I love taking people here when I'm meeting them for the first time. Not So Fried Chicken Sandwich: Tasty and fills the fried chicken craving. While the chicken itself is plain, the crumbles add a nice crunchy texture and the slaw/sauce make the sandwich very flavorful. A great healthy alternative to fried chicken! Thai Chicken Sandwich: Delicious flavors and juicy chicken! I'm usually skeptical of American restaurants serving Asian flavors, but this was delicious. Of note, this chicken is fried, and is thus probably not as healthy as the other menu options. Impossible Taco Salad: Delicious salad, my go-to if I'm not feeling meat. It tastes just like a deconstructed taco, but healthier with a ton of kale. The flavors are great, and the crispies add a great crunchy texture. The impossible meat is tasty. Chicken Pesto Sandwich: Simple yet delicious. The pesto tastes so fresh, and the chicken is juicy and tasty. Sides: The spicy curried couscous is excellent. However, I don't like any of the other sides I've tried. The Mediterranean bean salad, potato salad and basil pesto pasta shells were all very meh. Overall, Mendocino Farms is one of the best recent additions to Rice Village!
