I was looking for a quick bite after going to the Broad, and Mendocino was conveniently close. This location is in a food court downstairs, and there is no seating inside but plenty in the outside area. From the moment I walked up to the menu board, I felt welcomed by the staff. The girl outside recommended the "Not So Fried" Chicken to me, but I ended up going with "A Sandwich Study of Heat" ($9.95), which is a twist on the lowly turkey sandwich.
Upon going inside, I was handed a sample of their spicy dijon potato salad by a guy who complimented me on my style (thanks). It was good, but I was just there for the sandwich. Kind of like Earl of Sandwich, you are given a buzzer and wait for it to appear. While I waited I had some buyer's remorse. My internal dialogue screamed, "did you just pay $10 for a freakin' sandwich?! What have you become?" and "You probably should have gotten the chicken." However, when I finally bit into it, some doubts were assuaged. It was undoubtedly the best turkey sandwich I've had. It was white people spicy (aka not), but it tasted great and was fresh. The salsa went well with it too, and I polished it off very quickly.
I still think I should have gone with a "Foodie Favorite" sandwich since I'm probably not going to come back for a while, but my boring turkey was still delicious. Was it worth $10? Maybe not, but I've paid $10 for a beer before and this was much better than that. I don't think I'll be craving these sammiches, but they are no doubt excellent quality and good for an occasional office lunch splurge.
