"If you’re a fan of a certain cooking show, then you’ll probably know exactly who Monica Galetti is. This celebrated chef is the founder and director of Fitzrovia’s Mere, a fine dining restaurant that runs like clockwork. Each explanation of a tomato fondue, top up of your wine glass, and angle of a pomegranate here is as carefully considered and scheduled as a royal wedding. Nothing here is an accident, especially how excellent everything on their classic French, with a touch of the South Pacific, menu tastes." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna
"For mums who like punishing you for missing their call Your mum phoned you last week and you forgot to call her back. Shame on you. She’s now taken to referring to you as ‘the stranger’ and dropping hints that this one missed phone call is clear evidence that you’re addicted to that spicy stuff she keeps hearing about on the news. Take her to elegant Fitzrovia spot Mere, where the six course, French-meets-South Pacific tasting menu will give you plenty of time to catch up. The food here is truly excellent, and yes, also pretty expensive. The full tasting menu will set you back over £70, but, hey, maybe next time you’ll call her back." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing
"We don’t tend to use the word ‘genius’ unless referencing the person that invented the electric corkscrew, but we’ll make an exception for the food at Mere. This totally accessible fine dining restaurant in Fitzrovia runs like clockwork, and although the menu changes regularly, they always serve classic French dishes with a touch of the South Pacific. Think duck with manuka smoked pickled cherries, and lobster with coconut and a peanut sauce. Although this isn’t somewhere you want to be for a casual catch-up, it’s perfect for a big-deal dinner where you have a full tasting menu experience and a swish bottle of wine recommended by their excellent sommeliers. And go on, have a nightcap at their upstairs bar, why the hell not." - heidi lauth beasley
"There are a whole host of reasons you should visit this sophisticated restaurant on Charlotte Street in Fitzrovia. Mere is a fine dining spot that runs like clockwork, and the tasting menus are packed full of French classics with a touch of South Pacific flavours. Think duck smoked in manuka honey with sweet pickled cherries and a pistachio crumb. The space is very tranquil, so we’d say this place is best reserved for special occasion dinners with the family and impressive meals with people who are into organised fun. " - Heidi Lauth Beasley, Jake Oliver, Sinead Cranna, Rianne Shlebak
"Maximum capacity: 10 Minimum spend: none, just need credit card details to secure booking Mere’s chef proprietor is kind of a big deal. You might recognise her from all that MasterChef you watch when you’re poorly. And when we say ‘poorly’, we mean hungover. Anyway, Mere—pronounced Mary—is a slick operation from Monica Galetti that serves creative, white tablecloth-type French and South Pacific-influenced food and seriously excellent wines. As you’d expect from this fancy part of Fitzrovia, the private dining room is just as polished as the main restaurant and the bespoke six-course menu will be a big old tick for any business meet-up.
