Merka Saltao - Peruvian Bowls & Burritos

I was really excited to try this place after seeing the owners’ TikToks and social media, but it was underwhelming. I ordered the lomo saltado, which came out to around $20. The meat itself was tough and chewy, and it lacked a bit of sauce, it felt like I got more tomato/onions than meat itself. While i don’t dont think id come back I hope this review can work as constructive criticism and I truly wish the best for this business.

Went as a first timer today, loved the hospitality the cashier gave. I would definitely burn myself out eating this place. It’s such good quality of food. I give this place a 10/10!! I got a lomo saltado combo over fries extra green sauce ! Can’t wait to come back ! Thank you ❤️‍🔥

Outstanding Peruvian food. I asked the kind Peruvian man what he recommended and it was a traditional bowl with rice, steak and fries and it was absolutely delicious. The flavor was unique and I highly recommend it. I’ll definitely be back to try the burrito next time!

10/10 would recommend, their lomo saltado was delicious!! Their maracuya drink tasted like childhood to me and they even had some yummy wine & beer. Priced super fairly and for a well sized portion of food. Always great to support a local family owned business!!

I tried the chicken bowl with a side salad and French fries. The chicken was very flavorful, and I enjoyed dipping the fries into the avocado lime ranch sauce. My fav item from here was the passion fruit drink (not pictured).

The food was delicious and fresh. However, I prefer Mario’s food. The interior and exterior of the restaurant were aesthetically pleasing, with vibrant colors.

Approachable and Authentic. Their Peruvian flavors are an excellent addition to Downtown Culver City. Quick and easy too, with great Kids Menu options. Healthy decisions from the restaurant are always appreciated: Air Fried French Fries in Olive Oil. Makes me feel like they care about us! Hot Honey Chicken dish was solid and the frozen Pisco Sour was a fun addition. Will be back.

Aww sad - I had expectations with this restaurant. I got a burrito and a bowl but the portions were small, meat pretty small portions, it had a good taste. The lady was a bit rude - I will suggest as a Latina could be more welcoming - I love all the decor and ambiance

Perfect place to get lomo saltado in a variety of ways. The staff are friendly and the chef ensures that the flavor is distinct.... you won't want to go searching for another lomo saltado spot! The restaurant is tastefully decorated giving ample opportunities for photos and provides indoor and outdoor seating

Visited this new place in Downtown Culver after seeing how busy it's been getting! I got their build your own bowl with rice and corn, the asian salad, and chicken. Came out to $15 after tax. Pretty big portions, definitely more salad than chicken and rice though. I did ask which salad was better and trusted the asian salad, but it felt that either the salad or the chicken was too overpowering. It was overall too salty for me, but that's just a personal preference. Other than that, they give a plethora of greens and large pieces of chicken, with lots of flavor. Overall, a very healthy and cost efficient choice! It's my first time trying Peruvian food so I was pretty surprised by their options and I'd definitely try their other options.

I'm a big lomo Salgado fan and I'm glad there's a place dedicated to it. I would say the idea is similar to that of a chipotle - rice bowl, salad bowl, wrap, etc... I truly enjoyed the chicken Saltado bowl with fries and rice. The juice from the mix was not overtaking the dish but enough where by the end of the meal, it is mixed into the side dishes (my side were the fries! Also got to try the homemade passionfruit juice - not too sweet, not too bitter - a perfect drink for when the summertime comes! Parking - street parking (if you're lucky) or you will have to find a spot in the variety of parking lots around the area.

Food was really good; it felt refreshing and satisfying, makes for a really good lunch. It's in a good location, three parking structures within distance that provide an hour free parking.

I was pretty excited for a new Peruvian spot in Culver City. I came here with a friend and wanted to try it because they specialize in lomo saltado varieties. The cashier was really helpful in guiding me on what to order since it was my first time. I liked the concept because it feels like a build your own. The fries were crispy and the beef & tomatoes were very tasty. There was green sauce that was pretty spicy but addictive so I kept dousing my food with it. The restaurant was pretty full when I went on a Friday. It was a nice environment and not too loud so I could still have a conversation with my friend.

If I could give more than 5 stars I would! Simple but delicious menu. Was left feeling full but not overly stuffed. Appreciate the quality of ingredients and that the fries are air fried. The sauces have a great kick too!

Yummy fast-casual Peruvian spot near the Culver steps. We stopped by for a quick dinner on a Sunday evening around 6, and there was no wait at all. I got the regular size high protein saltado bowl, which was probably enough for lunch, but I wish I had upgraded to the large for dinner. I thought my bowl was good and reasonably priced. Loved the chili beans in the protein bowl and the crispy fries that came with my partner's hot chicken bowl!

Just moved to the west side and cannot stop coming back to this place. My boyfriend and I love lomo saltado and were very excited to find a fast casual spot that serves it at such high quality. The service is quick and the food is very delicous, we especially l ove the large corn peices and the salad dressing is a must have.

I'm a bit shocked this spot wasn't busier when I popped in to pickup my takeout order one evening after a workout class nearby. The decor and aesthetic is fun and vibrant. Easy order and checkout setup with lots of seating. The staff were super friendly and helpful and I finally found my spot for lomo saltado...yasssss!!! 10/10 will be coming here again. Along with my lomo saltado, I got a side of fries, and actually really enjoyed their house salad. Just give yourself a bit of extra time for parking if you're on a schedule because parking downtown culver is always a bit chaotic (esp weekends).

Amazing Peruvian food in a fun, vibrant restaurant! We tried the lomo saltado with quinoa and yellow bean chili and another order with rice and fries. Everything was so delicious, and even better topped with their house green spicy sauce! Also got a side of their house salad, which was the perfect refreshing side to the hearty main meal. Would get this meal again for sure, probably with the fries and yellow bean chili! Parking isn't easy given the popular area it's in, so just be prepared to look around and/or pay.

A refreshing and worthy addition to the DTCC food scene! We are glad we gave this place a try. The food came out very quickly. My kids, who can be very picky about meat textures, found the steak/chicken to be excellent. I tried the "high protein saltado bowl" which was packed with flavor. Alonso, the owner, came by and recommended trying it with their house spicy green sauce made with rocoto. It was superb! The staff was patient when I had questions about food allergens. I appreciated that the person taking my order went back to the kitchen to double-check. It's awesome they have both gluten-free soy sauce and vegan oyster sauce options. The space was welcoming with ample indoor/outdoor seating. Definitely worth checking out.

Came back to try this place in person, and it was amazing!! You have to go get the full experience there because the food came out warm and fresh and just perfect. This is definitely going to be on my recommended gems list now :)

I had just arrived back from Chicago where I had a saltado meal there and I saw this was a new place that just opened up. The owner was very nice and was at the register. He explained everything like how he would eat it and what's popular. The decor inside was very modern and fun and i noticed a lot of kids love the llama so i can see that being an attraction or icon in the future. Anyway to the food. The saltado combo was definitely worth it. I've gotten the fries sauced up both times I've had it since it soaks up tue juice but next time I'll try it separately. There are additional hot sauces you can try on the side. They aren't that spicy but do have a kick to them. I've only been twice so far but both times I've left feeling full and satisfied. Highly recommend checking it out if you're nearby

Pretty good spot for a healthy meal! Inside was clean with plenty of seating on a Sunday, although some of the tables were sticky and not cleaned. The service was quick and they have a Kiosk to order yourself. We tried the steak Saltado bowl for $17.45 and the hot honey chicken bowl for $14.65. Both came with sides of rice with giant corn which was delicious! Love the corn :) the bowls also came with onions, tomatoes, and cilantro. The grilled veggies were sweet and delicious, but the meats could have been a bit more juicy and tender. The beef was hard to chew and dry. The chicken was better. Price point is a tad higher. Still a good place for a quick Togo meal! Their green sauce extra spicy was delicious and love that they are homemade !

We had been on a bit of a lomo saltado kick so decided to come here for a weekend lunch after hiking at the nearby Baldwin Hills overlook area. I had learned about this place via several avenues - reddit, IG, and recently, LA Times included them on a list for 8 great places to try lomo saltado in LA. I really appreciated how fast the food was ready after ordering and liked the various customization options. I built my own bowl with chicken and a side of quinoa and rice/corn. S got their lomo saltado bowl with beef (half rice, half fries - with the fries added to the bottom of the bowl). While both of us enjoyed our meal, both the proteins felt a bit dry. The green sauce helped a lot in that situation. It wasn't clear to us that the green sauce was free when we ordered via the self-service kiosk (The sauce section mentions the green sauce to go option, and various other sauces that costs $) but it was made obvious afterwards when little bottles of green sauce was everywhere in the restaurant. There's indoor and outdoor seating. It's a good place to grab some grub if you are looking for something quick and filling and want to support a local small business! Parking: public parking structures around Culver City is free for the first 60 min. We parked in the Trader Joe's structure.

A great place for a healthy satisfying meal by the friendliest people I've met in a long time. This is a fairly new fast, casual restaurant in downtown Culver City. I suggest that make your own bowl. The chicken has nice juicy chunks as is the beef. The protein comes with sautéed vegetables similar to fajitas but much less oily and less salt which I prefer. The Peruvian touch is healthier. The Peruvian spices taste cleaner and more mild which I prefer. They also have amazing air fried french fries. I don't know if this is intentional or not, but there are a few french fries at the bottom of the bowl which soaked up the juices reminding me of Poutine, but without the cheese . You can choose two sides. I really like the Asian salad. It comes with little dried cranberries or some sort of dried fruit that's makes for a delicious contrast. The chicha Mirada drink is made of blue corn and is not too sweet and very satisfying. This is the second time this week I've been here. I'll be back next week too!

I've been back a few times and it's now the top place I am recommending to friends because it's tastes so delicious. Today I got the chicken burrito instead of the steak and now I'm not going to know which to choose, both are so good. My wife got a high protein saltado bowl and it's also top notch. If you are reading this just stop looking at other restaurants and order or show up. You will be smiling after. The owner is too nice and it's got a great atmosphere every time I've been in. Merka Saltao is a Peruvian spot in downtown Culver City. There are tables for indoor and outdoor seating. Came here with a friend on a Friday afternoon and it was not busy. Upon entering, we were greeted by a staff member. There is an option to order at the front with a staff member or at one of the self-serve kiosks (there are two). We ordered at the front. My friend ordered the Lomo Saltado Combo and a Passion Fruit Juice. I ordered a Chicha Morada and a Build Your Own Saltado with Chicken, Rice, and a House Salad. We decided to sit outside in the covered patio area. Our food was delivered to us pretty quickly. The Chicha Morada was good. It was light and refreshing with a moderate cinnamon flavor. The Saltado was a good portion and flavor was good but the chicken was very dry. The rice and house salad were standard. Overall, giving Merka Saltao a 4/5. Prices are reasonable for the portions, although the Lomo Saltado Combo might be a tad on the pricey side. We were happy with our drinks. My main comment is that the chicken in my Saltado was dry and tough. If we come back, I would try a different protein.

Quite SALTADO that I just discovered this hidden gem, but you need to check out @merka.saltao for the most incredible Peruvian food I've had! They specialize in authentic, customizable Peruvian dishes, with an extensive menu consisting of classics such as lomo saltado and chicha morada, a super hard-to-find sweet refresher crafted from a purple corn infusion with fruits and spices. I love how you can choose between USDA grade sirloin, chicken or mushrooms for your protein and rice, quinoa, air-fried fries, beans or any of their three salads for your base, making it perfect for bulking, healthy eating, or vegan lifestyles. Definitely stop by if you're in the downtown Culver City area (especially for their great happy hour deals), and support the sweetest and most deserving small business! All the employees were so sweet and helpful, and the manager even kindly walked me to my car (since I had a lot of takeout + drinks) and offered water to a customer with a dog. There's also free validated parking in the Culver Steps parking garage for 1 hour, as well as very affordable parking in the nearby Cardiff garage. I decided to visit and support after seeing a woman post a reel about this small business, however my experience was less than exciting. I have no intention to sway away others who want to try this place out- I'd say give this place a shot and form your own opinion. I'd love for my feedback to be considered when moving forward with improvements. When I first walked in I noticed there were 2 tablets to put in your order and there was a woman behind the counter who looked like she was busy so I carried on ordering from the tablet. Two other patrons came in and she helped them at the counter immediately which I wasn't too bothered about in the moment, but when I picked up my food from the counter there was no "thank you" or any real acknowledgment other than calling for me. Which I can maybe understand if it was a rush, but I went around 2pm and there were just a handful of people inside. I took my order to go and when I came home and opened my bag, the beans had spilt all over. The to-go bowls are pretty flimsy and the lid just rests on top, it doesn't snap into place so I would recommend changing the packaging if possible or taping down the lid. The food itself was probably a 8/10. The steak was cooked well, but I was expecting more flavor. They offer a green sauce for free, but it's absolutely too spicy/ vinegar-heavy for me. They offer other sauces for $1.50 each which is kind of a lot for 2oz in my opinion, but I'm not in the service industry to know how this compares to other places. My mom got the combo and her fries were cold & limp. Which is disappointing because my drive home is less than 10 minutes away and I don't think fries would've cooled down that much, leading me to believe the fries were not fresh. On the plus side, their drinks are pleasant and the space was comfortable. Just wanted to share my thoughts so hopefully things are different when I revisit.

OUR FAVORITE in downtown Culver City right now! Incredible beef lomo saltado. So tender, juicy and flavorful. My kids are also obsessed with how good it is. They love the fries too. I enjoy how fresh the food is and I love the kale caesar salad with it. A total delight for the tastebuds!!

This was honestly a super tasty, unique find and fairly priced spot in Culver City. Service was quick and friendly (self-order, then they bring it out to you). Tried the build your own bowl (comes with protein + 2 sides) with chicken, rice w/ Andean corn, and yellow chili beans. The chicken came mixed with onions and peppers. The rice w/ Andean corn side was super yummy - it's not traditional corn, but instead mixed in the rice. Portion sizes aren't very big, but it wasn't bad considering the price and quality. It also tastes better than it looks presentation-wise. I'd come back if I was in the area, since it is a bit hard to find reasonably affordable options around here.

Please don't sleep on Merka Saltao! I'm thrilled to have such a solid fast casual addition to downtown Culver, especially since I don't get to eat Peruvian food often. My friends and I dined here a few months ago and were really hoping that we'd enjoy this spot, and I'm happy to report that they did not disappoint. We ordered from the self service kiosks and were able to find seating very easily; I like that they have both indoor and outdoor seating options. The staff members brought out our food fairly quickly, and holy shit. I ordered the Lomo Saltado with fries, and every single bite bursted with incredible flavors and spices. The meat was perfectly tender and juicy, and the fries had the ideal balance of a crispy golden exterior + soft and fluffy inside. The stir-fried vegetables nicely balanced out the heaviness of the meat and potatoes. I initially thought that the portion didn't look large, but the meal was very filling, and I found myself almost too full to finish (don't worry, I did). I think the prices are fair for the portion sizes and quality, and it seemed like they were able to make accommodations for dietary restrictions. I also appreciated how friendly and helpful the team members were. The restaurant itself is extremely clean and nicely decorated, and it's right in the middle of the lively and bustling downtown Culver City. Metered street parking and paid garages are both available, or you can try your luck on finding free street parking in Palms if you don't mind a bit of a further walk. I look forward to the next time I get to dine here!

Incredible first visit to Merka Saltao. The fries were air fried with a hint of olive oil. The beef was very tender and tasty, and idk if they even seasoned it. The vegetables were cooked but still crunchy, which is very important for me cuz I hate soggy veggies. I like the ambiance, the vibe, specially for being on a big street. My kids had the passion fruit juice and I should make a habit of having it more often. We drove from Anaheim to try this place out and every mile was worth it. It'll definitely be in our list of restaurants to frequent!!! Shout out to Alonso for making our first experience at Merka Saltao memorable. He explained the menu and informed us how to maximize it. I love love love Peruvian food and Lomo saltados so I was excited to try this. I ordered the steak Lomo plate and it was pretty pricey. It tasted a lot like Chinese food to me. The sauce they used was similiar to Chinese food. Their fries are airfried so that's a plus. They had great flavor. The meat itself was so tender and juicy. The chicken was great flavor too! Just a tad bit too pricey for what it was. Meter parking nearby

I ordered the salad bowl with beef lomo saltado. I selected the house salad and it was very flavorful and delicious. I love the big Andean corn kernels. However, I do wish that the beef was a bit softer. I also ordered the frozen culver sour. It tastes a lot like the frozen version of Simply Limeade which is delicious! I could not tell if there was any alcohol in it at all, but it was refreshing regardless. There was plenty of seating and the employees were very nice.

Took out a couple of items to share at home - the classic Steak Saltado Combo (full sides), the Chicken Saltado Kale Caesar Salad, and pretty much all of the side sauces. The highlight was definitely the sauces - particularly the Yellow Chili sauce (amazing) and the Green sauce. They were potent and delicious, and went well with the food. The main reason we didn't love the food was the meat. The steak was not very tender and seemed overcooked, and the chicken with the salad was dry. Plus the caesar dish being side by side with cold kale salad and warm chicken mixture just didn't integrate well, and there was pooled sauce at the bottom of the container. The croutons were small and didn't stand up well to the sauce. Dressing was good, though. Was hoping for a slam dunk from a place that specializes in saltado - the sauces were masterful but the dishes fell short.

Merka Saltao has a great spot right in the middle of Main Street, so the ambiance is definitely a win. We didn't come hungry--we had already eaten somewhere else--but we did try their happy hour drinks, and I grabbed a dessert because, well... priorities. The Pisco Sour was really good, easily the standout of what we ordered. Beer-wise, they only serve IPA, and for wine everything comes in a can, which is... a choice. We tried one just for the experience. I did get the dulce de leche dessert, and honestly, it was nothing to write home about. Not bad, just forgettable. Since we didn't dive into the actual food, I can't judge the menu fairly yet--maybe next time we'll give the dishes a real try and see if they hit the mark. For now, it's a nice spot for drinks and a solid vibe on Main Street.

The food was all too delectable. So many Peruvian flavors bursting in your mouth when eating their Lomo Saltado. Wholeheartedly authentic. I especially loved the garlic rice and fries base for their Lomo. Big thanks to Sergio, the chef, and Alonso, the owner and lead operator, for their incredible service and striking up a personal conversation with me. Ambience is nice and modern yet casual.

The food is so good. Like soooooo flavorful! I find myself coming multiple times a week especially now that they have the high protein saltado bowl. Omg! What a gem! I can enjoy delicious food and I don't have to worry about eating too many carbs. Love love love Merka

The delicious wave of Peruvian cuisine expands in Culver City! I checked them out on their opening day (Wed. Aug. 6th at 11am) and I happen to be their first customer, first official order in! Merka Saltao brings the Peruvian superfoods to you. With many customizations available to your liking! The same superfoods that our ancestors consumed in building Machu Picchu :D I tried their High Protein Saltado Bowl with Quinoa! The steak was juicy and tender, crunchy red onions and tomato. Quinoa soaks up the juices from the steak and veggies. So good! Many more delicious options like bowl specialties, burritos, or build your own bowl (you pick your saltao or salad bowl, pick your protein, your side and salad.) Their The Green Sauce is Rocoto-based hot sauce and it's not to be messed with! It's a hot sauce with a big punch! If you want mild one, I recommend their Yellow chilli cream. Service is super friendly and nice with a casual and open ambiance with outdoor and indoor seating available. Metered street Parking and garages available across under the culver stairs. Congrats on the opening and best of luck! Can't wait to be back.

Really enjoyed this new Peruvian fast casual spot. The service is friendly, prices are reasonable, and the food comes out fast. I tried the lomo saltado combo, steak burrito, and the hot honey chicken. I enjoyed all of the dishes, especially the chicken. Great option when you want something quick but still really good. I'll definitely be back!

We love the half and half steak lomo saltado! Def recommend getting the extra ají amarillo sauce and spicy green sauce! The restaurant feels casual and quaint!! Would recommend for a casual date or quick meal. We have also gotten the Caesar salad before wish was tasty!

I havent been to Culver City for a hot minute and was delighted to see a fast-casual order yourself Peruvian styled restaurant. I had gone to Peru earlier in the year and had gotten to learn more about Peruvian cuisine, and this really took me back! I got the build your own bowl and chose chicken, and fries/quinoa for my sides. They also had rice w/ andean corn (again the menu was totally legit as to what you'd see in Peru). The bowl felt filling, healthy, with a good balance of meat and vegetables (excessive meat lovers look elsewhere or pay for extra protein). The chicha morada drink which was basically purple corn w/ spices was just a tad sweet but overall very solid. Perhaps the pricing was where i docked 0.5 points given the portion, but to be fair this is in Culver City and everything is jacked up anyways and so this price was reasonable relative to surroundings. The staff was very friendly as well too, I'm excited to come back!

Go here for sure. It has all the hallmarks you'd want from a restaurant that specializes in one dish. Like a good ramen store, the entire menu is made with the main dish in mind. The rice and fries are made a bit differently to go amazingly with the lomo saltado. The main dish is fresh, nicely cooked (you can taste the wokhei properly), and well portioned. The spicy sauce is great too but you only need a little to enhance your experience which is an even better thing about the sauce. Very neat and stylish fast casual spot worthy of your visits and online order.

Incredible. Had the saltado bowl and the beans were so delicious. They have down to a science of how delicious the beans were. The Saltado was also good. It was my first time and the place was packed. People kept coming in and out of the place (Sunday afternoon). The food came quickly and delicious. The owner was also very nice. Would come back for a lunch meal again. The only thing I'd add is non-spicy sauces. I might've missed it and next time I'll ask for sure. Thanks you Alfonso for a great meal!

I had been looking forward to trying out this new place after driving past many times and seeing it highlighted on Instagram. It was a swing and a miss for me... maybe I ordered wrong (I got the classic lomo saltado) but $17 for subpar rice/fries/veggies AND +$3.50 to add steak is robbery. The steak was overcooked, there was no juice/sauce/anything special. Avocado dressing was pure mayo. The pineapple ginger fresco was glorified flavored water. The service wasn't even great-- no one said two words to us while we were there. I really wanted to love this local owned place but sadly I don't plan on returning and genuinely wonder how this place rates so highly.

I went here and tried the Lomo saltado it's very fast food style with counter service only and picking up what you ordered via text message. I do wish they accepted cash. Cash tips are appreciated more by those in the industry.

Bright and cheery new shop in DT Culver. I love food bowls and love Peruvian so was happy to head over. Nice folks working. Went for the Saltado bowl with steak and rice mixed with big corn. They make it to order so if in a hurry best to order ahead. The steak was excellent. Great flavor, tender and really nicely prepared. I'd go back. It's a good fast casual option in the area.

If you've ever had Lomo Saltado, you'll find that Merka's take is a fresh, fast-casual, delight. And if you've never tried Saltado, I think it'd be a fabulous first for you. The beef in my order was tender, onions and meat brilliantly cooked, and the fries were FABULOUS. We'll be adding Merka Saltao to our eating out rotation and are so thankful to the staff for their neighborly warmth. We are so fortunate to have a new, clean, and delicious spot on the block! A 10/10 experience.

Very clean, good quality steak meat, staffs were friendly and service was attentive. They didn't even ask but before we seat outside one staff member immediately put their house green sauce on the table. The lady at the cashier was helpful to choose what to order. Bathroom is large and clean.

Just what the neighborhood needed! Finally, some fast-casual food that isn't ramen, Mexican, or pizza. As someone with Peruvian relatives who's also visited Peru, I can say the flavors here taste authentic: fresh ingredients, bold seasonings, and that unmistakable lomo saltado magic. The owners are super nice and always up for a chat (as long as there's not a long line behind you). Pro tip: If you're a meat lover, get the High Protein Bowl. It's hearty, flavorful, and worth every bite.

I absolutely love Merka Saltado!!!! It's easily the best lomo saltado in the area. The food came out so fast, which I really appreciated, and the service was beyond amazing the whole time. The owner was so nice and welcoming, you can just tell they really care. The lomo saltado is just incredible. The meat is so flavorful and tender, cooked perfectly. The onions and tomatoes are done exactly how lomo saltado should be, not overcooked, still fresh and mixed into all those amazing juices. Every bite is just so good. As a peruvian, I highly recommend this place. I already can't wait to go back again!!!
