"On any given weekend afternoon, half the people at this West Village cafe will be in workout clothes or PJs. The line will probably be out the door, but it moves fast because most just want something with caffeine. If you don’t get offended by nontraditional BECs, get Merriweather’s version with an over-easy egg, white cheddar, and crispy prosciutto on brioche. With its tangy harissa, avocado, and tomato, the sandwich gets messy, so don’t start eating without a stack of napkins nearby." - team infatuation

"The line out the door persists till mid-morning at this Australian coffee bar with an ambitious food program that includes all-day breakfasts. The coffee is only average, but some of the baked goods exceptional, including a fine almond croissant, with slivered nuts on top and marzipan inside. But this place takes itself a little too seriously, which might be why it’s so popular." - Robert Sietsema

tldr: try an iced cortado, no lid, no straw, and you’ll see steam rise off the cubes’ edges *chef’s kiss* i love how the ice melts here. one of my friends is also in this love affair. if you like a doughy scone, these may suit you more than me. i like the breakfast sandwich! they also have vegan cookies! they make chocolate chip with canola oil - no butter, no eggs!¡ i’m still learning vegan versions of things so feeling green to review such matters. tmi, for those going out of their way: i’m lactose and espresso-sensitive, but it’s still worth it to me to get cow’s milk in the espresso drinks. i really enjoy the iced lavender matcha too! but note the syrup can change from time to time!

Great coffee and breakfast options. Tried the Cortado, Cappuccino and a pesto mozzarella sandwich! Staff is friendly and seating options are limited!

Google
Came across this spot by chance after leaving the Statue of Liberty tour from Pier 40. As an Aussie travelling the world, this place made me feel like I was back home. Warm, welcoming staff who made me a delicious Oat Latte and an Avocado toast that was to die for. Beautiful and comfortable atmosphere. I could have sat there for hours. Couldn't recommend more!

Google
The place is great, food delicious. I think is a must when you go to NY. It isn't a junk food. The only tiny issue is the guy in the front desk it isn't nice at all.

Alisha

Google
Great coffee shop conveniently located off Christopher St. Path stop. Service was friendly and fast. Food was fantastic! I highly recommend the mushroom toast & the tumeric latte. Both were so GOOD!! I'd have that toast every morning if I could.

Haley Green

Google
Great coffee and location. Friendly staff and good vibes 5/5

Google
now I had a breakfast meal, oh man was it worth it! but you havve to get here by 8 or your going to wait because of the crowd.. but its not a long wait: this crew is magical ! I added foto of todays meal

Google
Hands-down one of the best tomato soups I have ever had! It is just a shame the counter-service does not match the kitchen. Hot soup to go, yet "x" still asks me if I want a bag...on a rainy day? + no spoon (?!@?$!$)

Yelp
The moment you walk in - you're greeted with a friendly smile; I don't now you but that MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE - early in the morning!! Coffee crafted with care and attention to details!! Everything and anything made here is good. Fresh. And super delicious!! In a rush... so have a great day- and buen provecho!!

Yelp
Excellent, excellent cold brew it can be such a hit-or-miss, but this place made a great cup. I grabbed their take on a banh mi and loved that it was light and refreshing. The outdoor seating option is nice, especially as it gets quite packed during the day from folks who work in the neighborhood, although I wish the chairs and tables were just a bit larger.

Yelp
I came out of my way to meet a friend here, and I thought the space was really cute. It was small and crowded, but the vibes were good. Staff were friendly, and I thought the coffee was really good and the food hit the spot. Overall, I would be back more often for sure if I lived in the area, but for now, I'll keep this spot in mind if I'm ever nearby looking for coffee and a snack!

Marian S.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious chocolate chip cookie Just what I needed this afternoon! I'll for sure have to go back and try some other things!

Yelp
Id give zero stars if I could. The coffee was terrible compared to the price. It didnt have any flavor and tasted like Paneras coffee lol. I like to film places to review and share on my instagram feed and I wanted to capture a scene where the barista was frothing the milk because the color of the cafe is cute. But the barista was so rude and said "no photo" or something like that rather than asking about it nicely. I would have not filmed or taken a photo if there was a sign but I was just so disappointed with it. I get that they want privacy but I wasn't going to post his face anyway. And he just turned away without giving any explanation or reasoning. We just went to go for the bathroom since we had an hour travel but I would have just went to a bar next door next time dont go there. I dont even know if I will be in trouble if I post them on my Instagram with the reviews :/

Yelp
When my wife gets her hair done on Saturday morning, I make it my mission to find a good breakfast and a cuppa coffee. I found Merriweather Coffee + Kitchen to be my choice for a Saturday morning breakfast. Walking inside, I can best describe the space as a mullet. I place my order and step to the side as they prepare my sandwich and coffee. The barista? She's singing-humming! Who says New Yorkers aren't chill? What I noticed in the back? There are two kitchen guys that are a MACHINE! I can see they have a hustle on, they are cooking and prepping orders on another level. I ordered The Merriweather Morning Sandwich and two coffees. The morning sandwich is a bougie Bacon-Egg-Cheese on a roll. Made with an over Easy Egg, Sliced Tomato, Avocado Slices and topped with White Cheddar cheese. All of this goodness is held on a Toasted Brioche Roll. I'm asked, would you like to add crispy prosciutto? Um.. hell yes! I took my first bite and almost fainted. Holy Sheet! Man, that is a bougie ass BEC! I don't know what Housemade Harissa is but I want Harissa every day. Soooo good! The reason why Merriweather Coffee + Kitchen works for me is there is plenty of street parking. I can zip in Saturday morning, grab my food and zap out. I can't wait to return.

Dorothy K.

Yelp
The Avocado toast was nice, came here on a week day for lunch and the service was quicker which is nice.

Yelp
I have a few go-to spots in the West Village and Merriweather is hands down my go-to for cappuccinos and the like. I've tried every spot within a half a mile radius and nowhere else compares. And I am really picky about my caps. I once (maybe twice) made a barista make me a cappuccino 3x until I gave up and threw it in the garbage and walked out of the place (note: I did pay for it, I just couldn't drink it). This was obviously not at Merriweather I just like adding anecdotes. I've pretty much tried everything on the menu there and nothing disappoints. My favorite breakfast is the Merriweather Morning Sandwich with Sourdough bread and bacon substitution, for lunch sandwiches, I like the Saigon Sanga, the Prosciutto, the Pesto sandwiches. The salads are good, my go to is the Miso Mushroom Faro bowl, and the Kale Kombucha salad (I'm not a fan of kale but this one's good!). And what can I say about the wonderful staff there? I have never been greeted with less than a smile even on the busiest of days where they're completely out of their minds with orders. They're just fun and friendly people who brighten your mornings and feed you caffeine and goodies to help you get on with whatever chaos the day brings at work. Yelp is asking about ambience. I mean, what can you say about ambiance at a popular and busy small coffee breakfast and lunch spot? It's a little tight at times when they're crazy busy but it's never bothered me. I usually do take out but I've eaten there before and it's fine. Kitchen's clean, everything is in order. There is outdoor seating by the way so if inside gets too crowded, you have another option. So yeah, more or less a daily customer for 2+ years, sometimes multiple times a day. Food and beverage is consistent. Staff is a dream team.

Jillian B.

Yelp
Grabbed a quick coffee before work - really efficient and friendly service. I could tell this is a very popular neighborhood spot, as almost all of the tables were taken (~9am on a Friday morning). Interior was nice and bright with a beautiful turquoise coffee machine as the star of the show. Cold brew was solid and I appreciated that they used larger ice cubes so it didn't melt as fast. Pastries looked delicious too, though I didn't get one so cannot base my review off that.

Sara Y.

Yelp
1st time there. In the morning time till 12pm is very crowded. But In the afternoon after 3pm you can find a place to sit down easily. If you tell them you're in dining, you can get plates. It's all self services. Matcha latte and Croissant are okay. Bathroom is inside and very clean. They close at 5pm

Jennifer J.

Yelp
Service has always been snooty but now it's plain unbearable. They are so full of attitude. No smiles. No thank you for your order. It's as if they are doing you a huge favor. But they expect a tip and stare at you while you're swiping the credit card and give you a dirty look if it's not huge. Food is also worse. Yogurt granola with fresh berries consists of all granola, tiny amount of yogurt and past their prime soggy strawberries. Eggs with Lane yogurt had a stone in spinach and soggy bread with virtually no labne spread. When you walk up to ask for anything the staff scoffs and ignores you while you just stand there. Kitchen is cramped and doesn't appear clean. How do they pass inspection?

Chris D.

Yelp
Came upon this quaint, neighborhood coffee place while on a very cold morning we were trying desperately to find a decent coffee place that actually has seating and allowed indoor seating during COVID. Most other places have no seating and on a really cold day, a place like this is a nice respite. Ordered a cappuccino and the fig/ricotta/honey toast. Cappuccino was excellent and the ingredients on the toast were very fresh and tasty. Simple but very nice breakfast. Service was fast! I'll be adding this as a go-to coffee and breakfast place in the future.

Mandy K.

Yelp
Been in search of a good replacement for Charley Street (refined sugar free Australian cafe) since it closed. This place looks quite similar. We ordered all the mushroom dishes: soup, farro mushroom bowl with miso sesame dressing and the mushroom/labneh toast. They were all good especially the bowl which had a great variety of veggies and the dressing was nicely balanced. We put the kimchi on the side as they were not sure if there is sugar added. The mushroom toast was ok wish they use wild mushroom not just cremini. The soup was lovely very creamy and had good umami. I like that they serve coffee/beverages in real cups for people dining in, better for the environment and great for the vibe! Wish they make all the food without refined sugar.

Brittany M.

Yelp
The cutest cafe in the West Village! I wandered over here after stopping by Washington Square Park. I wanted to explore the neighborhood and walk over to the Hudson River. The cafe is on a lovely block that's a bit quieter, but the cafe itself is very popular, a good crowd the day I visited. Service was great, the woman on the register was really sweet and helpful and the barista making drinks chatted with me about coffee for a minute too. I got my food and drinks faster than I expected for how busy they were which was nice! The coffee was honestly the best I've found in NYC and the food was delicious. I got the Miso Mushroom salad and a cappuccino with Oat milk and I will definitely come back to try both again!

Scott M.

Yelp
Their avocado toast is my favorite in NY. Mushroom toast great as well. Relaxing interior. Great casual spot for breakfast. Not a ton of tables so just be prepared to wait for one or have a backup spot in mind

Mosa H.

Yelp
Hands-down the best matcha latte in this area! It always comes out a deep green and tastes strong. I love it with oat milk and lavender. I recently tried the Mediterranean salad. As is expected with other food in the area, it was slightly overpriced for its portion size. However, I loved the salad and it made for a filling lunch. It came with a seasoning topping that added zest and tang to the vegetables. I wish there was a bit more feta and there were barely any olives.

Joella H.

Yelp
Stopped in, expected to keep going on my walk, but nope... coffee (mocha) was just too perfect not to stop and enjoy. Busy stop, but clean, friendly staff, and cute! If you're in the neighborhood, definitely swing through!

Henry C.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick breakfast and drip coffee. Avocado toast was tasty with a little kick. Ham and Cheese croissant was a big. They were friendly at the counter and food came out quick. Help yourself to a table if you are eating in.

John G.

Yelp
Nice shop but be warned they do not allow laptops. I highly recommend putting up a sign indicating that laptops are forbidden. It's understandable but you should be able to see that before you order. It's a bit deceptive to tell me after the fact.

Anne R.

Yelp
First off- hot spot in this neighborhood. I felt lucky to score a pandemic outdoor seat since most were already taken. Second- holy shit- that banana, tahini, cinnamon, honey, mint combination is like a shot of fresh chakra balancing inspiration for the senses! Whoever decided to put all those things together needs a damn award. PS. Must like dogs- it's a very popular spot with the four legged types.

Maurice D.

Yelp
Really good iced latte and breakfast/lunch... morning sandwich with prosciutto is to die for

Cleo D.

Yelp
The barista was disgustingly rude and my $6 coffee was terrible! I asked a simple question and was embarrassed in front of the entire cafe. Waste of time and money. If you want coffee that tastes the same for cheaper go to the deli next door. If you want better coffee, go to any of the thousand other cafes in the neighborhood where they know how to treat people. Hope she gets the help she needs.

Rhino T.

Yelp
The guy behind the counter is so unnecessarily rude re: where people stand to wait for their to go orders. There is no good place to stand, you either stand near the counter and might be in the way, or you block the bathroom door. It's crowded and tiny. I can't believe no one tells this guy that he can't talk to customer this way, it's crazy. Never going back and that guy should be fired

hakjik l.

Yelp
This cafe is big, with indoor and outdoor seats. their coffee is so good. I got to try their coconut cherry bar and quite impressed! they also have restroom and wifi although i didn't use. Although the coconut cherry bar is too flaky for my taste, their coffee is great!

Stephanie S.

Yelp
I stopped by Merriweather while at work in the West Village. One of my coworkers was raving about the great lunch options so I decided to give it a try. The restaurant is an Australian inspired breakfast and lunch spot. I tried the BLAT sandwich which was really good. The sandwich has Bacon, Prosciutto, Tomato, Avocado, Arugula and Spicy Mayo on a Toasted Baguette. It was really tasty and the service was friendly and quick. Merriweather is a good healthy lunch spot and worth checking out if you're in the area.

Nivi R.

Yelp
Delicious coffee - loved their cold brew. Stopped by today for a quick avocado toast as well, super generous with the avocado and delicious bread. This is right next to an Equinox location I visit over the weekends, I am a regular here atleast for their coffee :)

France S.

Yelp
The coffee and pastries are excellent served by a lovely staff. I've never tried their menu dishes, but when I peek at folks who are dining in, everything looks yummy. This is a popular Sunday morning spot, expect to wait in line, and if you want to dine in, and are lucky, you can grab a spot inside or a cafe table on the sidewalk.

William G.

Yelp
I was getting done with business nearby, and I was in need of coffee and a snack. I found this place using my Yelp app, so I made my way here. I walked in to this moderately sized coffee shop. It was fairly busy, but the line was not long. I ordered an inced latte, and went with a banana tahini toast. The latte was as expected, although the caffeine content was not as great as I'd like it to be. The toast was delicious, although a bit too sweet for my tastes. The staff here was friendly, as were the other patrons. The place had fans in side the place, as well as an A/C unit. I'm assuming their central A/C was not working, or they were in the middle of installing a new unit. They had one restroom, which was clean, just like the rest of the place. Next time, I'll stick with a black coffee, as it is less likely to be short on the caffeine content. And I'm forgoing any such toast henceforth.

Leah O.

Yelp
I'm really sad to be writing this review because I've enjoyed every meal I've had here and the coffee is good in addition to this was a place we came very frequently because it's close to our office but my colleague had a very awkward encounter. I asked my friend to write the review from her perspective because the negative interaction was toward her: I was really saddened about the experience I had at Merriweather. I was on a business coffee meet up with an old colleague and I decided to order two coffees and some pastries for my colleague and I. The male running the cash register/taking orders outside was actually very nice and helping us pick which pastries to get. Once we received our orders, I noticed that I received a hot coffee instead of an iced coffee. When he came back I told him " Hi I actually ordered an iced coffee, but it is not a big deal if you could give me a cup of ice I can just pour it over". He grabbed my coffee out of my hand and threw it straight into a very full trashcan in front of me and said "no i'll get you another" and quickly ran inside. When the coffee hit the trashcan it completely exploded and hot coffee got all over me. I was so embarrassed and confused in front of my colleague, I honestly didn't even know what to say. She was also very very uncomfortable. When he came back out, my colleague asked him "Is everything ok?" And he said "No all good, I just know most customers don't like it when I bring the cup of ice", and he saw me cleaning up my jeans where the coffee spilled and he said "oh no did I spill on you?" I said yes, but it's ok. I don't know why I said it was ok, it was absolutely not okay. I have never in my life been treated that way and i was so kind in general. I did not want to make a scene so my colleague and I walked over to sit down to finish our meeting and ignore everything that happened. As I took a sip of my new coffee i noticed the lid was not actually on properly and with my first sip the iced coffee completely spilled all over me again. I am not sure if this was an accident or if he did that on purpose, but nonetheless I will not be going here again. I understand when people are stressed, and busy and sometimes people just have a bad day, but there is absolutely no excuse in the way I was treated.

Cate S.

Yelp
We were looking for a quick breakfast spot in the area and very happy with this find! They have a bunch of great breakfast and drink options. We got a latte and lime infused iced coffee, which was basically lime soda mixed with espresso. Interesting but wouldn't recommend. The breakfast sandwiches were delicious. I would highly recommend this spot for an unpretentious breakfast!

Shanna C.

Yelp
Amazing cappuccino! Tasty, healthy options. Chi HK en quinoa bowl with cranberries was good, and filling. Cozy, relaxed atmosphere with outdoor seating.

Brekka L.

Yelp
Super cute! Was just walking around and saw this gem. It was very inviting and had indoor dining options on a cool morning. I got the turmeric ginger oatmeal with the best cappuccino I've ever had. Seriously. And my partner got a hot chocolate with the apple crumb muffin. The muffin had big chunks of apples and was moist. I just wish the portions were bigger for the price, but I would definitely eat here again.

Ryna D.

Yelp
Tiny shop but great coffee and pastries. Met up with a friend here to catch up before heading up to the Whitney. Excellent espresso drinks and pastries from Balthazar or Bien Cuit. It was quite busy on a weekend and was a little crowded.

Kristen G.

Yelp
Sooo good! Stopped in here yesterday as we were just walking by and wanted a coffee. Surprised this place was SO good! We tried the hot latte with almond milk and the iced latte with almond milk. Great roast and flavor of coffee beans and no bitterness! Perfect blend of almond milk. Top quality!! And the prices were average for New York coffee. So worth it here though!! We would love to drink coffee from here all the time! So so good!! Highly recommend this coffee shop!!

Michelle L.

Yelp
Tried their special toasts, a cappuccino and a matcha latte. Drinks were pretty standard but the toasts wow!!!! First of all, they are so pretty. The banana one had an interesting... but good taste. The fig one was delicious. I would go back just for the fig toast.

Elizabeth K.

Yelp
Nice spot! Plenty of outdoor seating and it's in the shade so good for the now hot weather. No indoor seating right now. Plenty of coffee/tea options.

Ender S.

Yelp
Merriweather is a quintessential West Village coffee shop. A community building space with excellent service and inviting hospitality. It is an absolute go-to to grab a coffee and a quick breakfast.

Jasmine W.

Yelp
Cute little Australian cafe that makes many types of coffee/espresso drinks and has tons of breakfast options. There's avocado toast, poached pear with yogurt on toast, banana mint on toast, breakfast sandwiches, and a ton more! Great seating options - could probably seat like 10-15 people. Seems like a lovely place to spend some time and get some work done. Prices are on par with the neighborhood. Lattes are $4-5 and toast is $8-10.

Sean M.

Yelp
Kayla here, but do not fear I'll give you a review that might bring you a tear. We headed out for a kick, as the day was jumping off quick. We were a bit behind, and needed to be put in line. Merriweather came up on our search as a place that might put us on our perch. We didn't need much but a mocha and ice latte is our crutch. We also saw some sammys on yelp, that definitely could help. We made our order like some champs that are clearly on the ramp. We weren't let down, and to this cafe we hand the crown. The sammys were on point with buttery light bread that's our joint. They were flavored to perfection bringing spicy, sweet to connection. We also perked up with the drinks, and the next meetings didn't stink. If you're looking for a treat on a morning that is bleak. Merriweather is a place, that will put brightness in your space!

Vivian C.

Yelp
Really great oat milk latte and oat milk matcha latte. Their oat milk is super creamy which pairs well with the matcha. Food is just okay. No indoor sitting. I'd come for the coffee and matcha, not the food.

Elizabeth K.

Yelp
Love this place! The food, coffee and atmosphere are perfect. Friendly service too. I went twice while visiting

Michele G.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick bite before exploring the area. What kind and attentive wait staff, delish and nutrish food and a lovely out door seating arrangement. Parfait!

Avalon B.

Yelp
Great quick or grab-and-go breakfast/brunch spot with plenty of healthy options. A pretty cool scene that wasn't trying to be extra or trendy. I ordered the banana, tahini, honey, mint & cinnamon toast - delicious! I can eat a LOT for breakfast and this actually filled me up. Great iced coffee as well. Would love to come back!

Matt B.

Yelp
Have to give big ups to Merriweather coffee. There is a lot of hullabaloo about Australian coffee places, and rightly so but this one is right up there. Much simpler, less crap around the edges. If you want a simple high quality coffee and breakfast for about $30 for two people, this is your spot. Coffee isn't the absolute best in the city but an easy 4/5. Breakfast sandwich is my absolute go to. With or without avocado is excellent either way. Food 4.5/5 Coffee 4/5 Price 5/5 Ambiance 4/5 Service 4/5

Glenn S.

Yelp
This may be my new favorite coffee shop. It's quaint, hip and super friendly. They also have some interesting drinks like the Turmeric with macadamia milk which was delicious. The prices are also very reasonable compared to most other shops.

Matt P.

Yelp
this is a chilledoutt place to go - shady on that block. The aesthetic inside is nice it's got this old-world green mixed with white. They could stay open later.

J.R. M.

Yelp
I started coming to Merriweather a few months ago and was hooked from my first sip. I'm especially fond of the cold brew and avocado toast. The outdoor seating area makes the experience extra special; it's an inviting space with ample seating. The service is also beyond exceptional; they're consistently friendly and super quick.

Inga C.

Yelp
I love this cafe so much! It's got ambiance, character, a super delicious breakfast sandwich served most of the day, and great matcha lattes and chai lattes (made locally in Brooklyn)! I love the mint green branding and artsy neon Merriweather sign, inspired by the trendy beach cafes of Sydney. They have a lot of healthy options that I'm still working my way through, like the tahini quinoa bowl, but my hands down favorite is the Merriweather Morning Sandwich. You must try it, and then you'll find yourself getting it again and again and not trying the rest of the menu. The toasted brioche roll is flavorful by itself, but then you get a nice sunny side up egg, tomato, avocado and some white cheddar...and the best part, housemade harissa!! Bonus: you'll usually see someone's cute dog waiting patiently outside :)

Tara C.

Yelp
The food and drinks are delicious. Love to start my day with breakfast from here. The online order to pick up in store is super convenient.
